It officially confirmed that Samurai 8 going to start on Issue 24 (May 13th).
Samurai 8 Hachimaru-den

-
Alright Kishi. Let me see what you got this time.
-
Dropping the moment someone with an eye related power appears. Uchiha PTSD is real.
-
Let's see what he can produce if all he has to do is write. Hopefully the added time of not doing the art will provide better chapter scripts than what naruto produced in the last war.
-
Is this about the samurai in the Naruto universe that were introduced in the war and did nothing?
-
I absolutely loved the first part of Naruto, I honestly feel the reason part 2 was so lackluster… and then just turned god awful, was because he fell out of love with his series and was just going through the motions, I mean he basically wanted to make a series about mobsters called Mario or something and when he suggested working on that they were like "Hell no you can't stop writing Naruto, do you see how well it's selling?" But if he's writing from a passionate stand point again I'm sure the quality will be much higher, basically I'm looking forward to seeing what he'll produce
-
Cant wait! I think Kishimoto is a very talented writer so i can only look forward to his next work.

You'd think that's how it would work, but I've personally never read a manga made by a writer & artist that really stood out to me. The closest is Death Note, but I'm in the camp that didn't like Near stuff.
Anyway, I'm willing to hop back on Kishimoto's wild ride.
-
Hopefully it gets better than that lol
-
definitely way too early to say anything…
-
Interesting.
! He seems to have a lot of physical issues. I kinda like that. If it's something that sticks around of course.
-
-
It's . . . . cute?
-
Oh! Another potential underdog story….
Just watch him turn into Super powered Jesus like Naruto did in his serie and completely dump that underdog/hard work premise.
-
Story is yet to start…:getlost:
agreed, I wasn't saying it's all gonna be bad, I just didn't enjoy that one part they showed made the main character making a super long wish, he seemed annoying, but that's like two pages, it doesn't mean anything really in the grand scheme of things
fingers crossed this will be a good series, were getting it next friday right (this week is golden week I think?)
-
Honestly, despite everything, I enjoyed Naruto to the end. So, I'm excited for this.

It's gonna be a generic shounen, where underdog prevails at the end.
It's the overall set up which matter. Naruto had fantastic world building in early stages, then it got sporadic as the focus went on to the power level.
Now Kishi has chosen a difficult topic, Samurai in space age. Not that it's a unexplored concept as Gintama also has a part of it, but mostly for gag. But Kishi's seem to be a serious one. We have to wait and see….. -

Dropping the moment someone with an eye related power appears. Uchiha PTSD is real.
Rumor is the main character has an eye ability that allows him to read other peoples body motions based just on the slightest of muscle movements, but also copy other's powers.
Don't think it's anything we've ever seen before, so i'd love to see how that plays out. -

Honestly the original idea of the sharingan was awesome, it was the subsequent other powers it kept getting that really fucked it up, like they just kept being so hax but also had less and less to do with eye powers
like Tsukuyomi If you make eye contact your stuck in the ultimate illusion, okay I can deal with that
Amaterasu can make black flames that can never be put out but they need to be in your line of vision, stupid and hax as hell but okay
Then Susanoo, makes a giant tengu skeleton megazord!! Like what the fuck does that have to do with eye powers, that's like saying spider man gets powers like a spider, he has the proportional strength of a spider he can stick to walls and oh yeah and he can freeze time and teleport… like what the hell do those last two have to do with spidersAnd then they made the two other forbidden sharingan moves, and then the rinnegan which has an insane amount of powers that's just mind bogglingly stupid, seriously what the fuck happened to just copying fighting moves

Well… the Sharingan was well executed... right up til the point that people were catching on fire, of which you couldn't put out... haha.
-
The closest is Death Note, but I'm in the camp that didn't like Near stuff.
Not sure if you've read Bakuman, a slice of life series by the same people behind Death Note about creating manga. But they seem to agree with you, with the character's most successful series revolving around a pair of characters like Light and L, with their publishers wanting them to continue because of the upcoming anime adaptation, yet they have to fight over the fact that the series as they've envisioned it, should logically come to an end.
-
so predictions guys, is this series first chapter gonna be good? what about the rest of the series?
-
Heavy handed exposition, the manga.
I could forgive the 2th scene being just a videogame, but then the "as you know if I leave my life support, I'll die"
-
It was ok.
It hit all the cliche shounen beats. First page has a character using a pronoun to describe some unknown enemy. Lame.
But main protagonist is a little bit interesting. Seems like a likeable character without being a complete baby face.
The art confuses me a bit. Especially with all the samurai stuff.
Has some potential.
-
Should have given the "show don't tell" aproach to the technology this chapter. Not a fan of the squigly lines doing the work, is like trying to convey too much in the manga medium with a thing that its not particulary strong in it, unique doesn't mean good.
And besides the whole ton of exposition, I'm not clear on who's human and who's a cyborg.
-
The art made it a bit hard to follow especially with the info dumps. As a blerd the color pages had me intrigued.
Hopefully under a weekly format this will seem more focused.
-
Not terribly impressed. The art is unique but not in a good way (I'm not a fan of the squiggly/gooey tech), and I found the action difficult to follow at times.
Plus, it's the same brand of futurism that drove me away from Eden Zero. Big talks about going to space and some cool designs (the life support machine and dismantling cyborgs got me hooked), yet at the end of the day it is but a disguised fantasy world where everyone fights with blades and any technology that really matters will be some gooey stuff that might just as well be labelled "magic".Also, the fragile health thing which could have been interesting to overcome, but! Look how quickly that went out the window in favor of "congratulations, now you are an undying cyborg samurai"!
I might still be in for the father/son dynamic and what secrets the father may hide, but altogether I have low expectations.
-
Metaphorical eye powers: 1
Real BS eye powers: 0So far no hook for me, and the gooey tech is just a excuse to have cutting members with out consequence.
-
Can we talk freely about this one or should we use spoiler tags until the official release comes out like with MHA?
Anyways, this was definitely better than I expected, but I don't know.
Like some people said, there was too much info dump for one single chapter. Maybe this is meant to be a short manga, I don't know, but still too much term-throwing.
Hachimaru (the 8th children, literally named "Eight". A reference to Naruto being the 7th Hokage? I like to think it is) being this super crippled children was an idea that I enjoyed and his design nailed on how frail his body was… but then POOF your limitations are gone. This felt exactly like Deku not being the quirkless hero that he should have been, which is really a shame (although I suppose Hachimaru limitations were just way too big for it to work). But at the same time, just like with Deku, it's good to see the author is not willing to let every kind of limit to be bypassed by sheer will alone - specially surprising coming from Kishimoto.
I also think it is a shame the dog couldn't keep its original design. So much better than big generic wolf #23049823The art itself is kinda confusing some times, but I can't say I dislike it. Because of it, I don't know if it was meant to be like this or not, but the robotic parts of the samurai and their animals really looked like wood to me, which I thought was great (and reminded me of Tenchi Muyo. That's always a good thing).
Also, "first scifi samurai-themed story ever"??? Really? REEEEEEEEEEALLY???
-
Goddamn the robotics artwork keeps reminding me of wood jutsu and Susanoo.
No way can I ever take this seriously. -
The robotics looks like the stuff we're getting in Boruto currently.
-
The good thing is that this is definitely a separate universe from Naruto. The colored art was good. Altough the actual panels were too busy/crowded, I've noticed that in a lot of manga early chapters and will probably get better as the style gets well defined and the schedule makes the drawer focus on what's essential.
The bad: The premise is not interesting and there's no hook for the second chapter, the boy wanted to be a samurai and he's a samurai already. He's getting into some conflict between other people we don't know about in order to find keys. The main character came as unsympathetic for being an ass to his father for no reason. The thing about having a weak body was meaningless; if it's brought again in the future it will likely be misshandled, since he never overcame his weakness on his own and was an asshole while he had it. The phobia of pointy things will probably stick for a while as his quirky weakness (a samurai that fears sharp objects? impossible!) but it's the kind of thing that gets old fast.
-
Seeing how he pulled the same move of offering his hand to be sliced to cover his real attack, I assume the phobia was magically healed along with his body. Unless it is going to be one of those cases of "on a serious battle the character forgets all his defects but goes back to a wimpy state once it is over".
I liked his relationship with his father, though. None of them came across as an asshole to me, just like they had a good loving relationship based on weighless complaining and bad mouthing.

seems that futuristic is the new flavour of the month, after mashima now kishimoto
this first chapter was..strange.
definitely looks like kishi got carte blanche in the design of this new world and it shows it in looking a bit overproduced, and a bit pretentious, but also different enough to his past work despite the subject matter being so close.
lots of new words, new concepts, there's a lot to digest between swords hidden in hearts, stars and spinal cord keys and the like.the chapter kind of devolved in the usual shonen stuff by the end but it's normal at this point.@.access:

a quirkless hero is basically batman, and batman is obnoxious as fuck

Batman can be obnoxious but not because he doesn't have powers. It's usually because of how they pad him to make him a threat to those that do have powers. Friggin Prep time being the biggest thing to get thrown in our faces lol.
-
I love Batman .
-
Art is too complex, in both good and bad way. The good things are in details, motions and also the character designs. Bad thing is most of the futuristic stuffs do not have a 'definitive' shape which can stay in your mind.
As a first chapter, the story was good if not great. How it develops is what will matter. I hope Kishi was well prepared before this serialisation. He at least tried to move away from Narutoverse style, which is very good. Some accomplished authors(not talking about Mahima ), despite churning out good stories one after another, do not try to change in that aspect. -
if this is the hook chapter for the manga, then … yikes
-
The story has somewhat Star War like premise. A samurai( Jedi) going to protect and perhaps romance a princess( Amidala).

Alright I'm diggin' it so far. First chapter was pretty quick paced.
-
his dad looks like an angry luigi
-
Didn't even know this was a thing until it popped up on the Viz site. Well… it's Kishi. I don't think he has the juice in him to do actual quality anymore, but I guess we'll see. Long as he can just tell a short story and not have to drag out a long runner it might be okay.
You'd think that's how it would work, but I've personally never read a manga made by a writer & artist that really stood out to me. The closest is Death Note, but I'm in the camp that didn't like Near stuff.
Anyway, I'm willing to hop back on Kishimoto's wild ride.
Coming to this late, but given the fourth wall breaking that same pair did in Bakuman, it's pretty clear they themselves weren't happy with the second half of Death Note and wanted to stop at the midpoint… but were forced to stretch it out for the sake of sales and length of an anime adaptation.
-
Mixed feelings here. The artsytle was cool, but occasionally hard to follow. The relationship between Hachimaru and his father was really good, but I doubt that will stay the focus of the series. The lore is confusing so far, but I'm still intrigued.
I liked it overall, but at the end of the day it's just a starter chapter. We'll need to wait for an arc or two to see how it stands out from every other Shonen.

Chapter 2.
! This art style is so busy. But it's mostly line art so it's kinda hard to look at. The 1st found buddy who is full of coincidences. Uhh. I dunno. Gender confused super Samurai could be interesting. But right now stuff feels a bit too fast. But somehow slow lol. Is Hachimaru really not going to have any weaknesses? This is worse than Deku going from quirkless to best quirk. At least he had limitations.
-
Art style seems to be as weak and busy as naruto war arc was, too bad.
-
If it wasn't for Kishimoto's name on this, I couldn't it see it making through the 30-chapter chop. This third chapter was everything mediocre (also I was particularly annoyed with Nanashi's conduction this chapter. After spending their whole life inside a room, knowing nothing of the outside, being so recluse they couldn't bare one person looking at them… suddenly they are perfectly fine on the outside, not minding other people's presence, walking around town with no problem at all. I mean, why introduce heavy liabilities to characters if you are going to develop them in such a shallow manner they won't even be remembered one chapter later?)…
