Chapter 908: The Reverie Begins

Can't quite get the slave fetishes of the World Nobles.

You can have people do thing for you and relax constantly.

Well within one page of his return Roswald shows what a ass he is and reminds people why to hate him.
hehe seems Bonney just pretended to be the Queen Dowgar Connie and isn't really Connie at all. So much for the people hoping she was mother/daughter of Kuma.
I had liked the idea of her related to him but didn't get my hopes up as Oda often give clues years in advance and Bonnie was introduced with last name of Jewelry. -
Just a heads up
There was a space for the word rev ery because it's in the middle of the double page spread and it's printed in a magazine so they have to space out the word so the letters are legible on both pages
-
Well, that empty throne sure paid off a lot quicker than I was expecting.
-
I swear even though it's only been a few chapters the content has reached the same epic level I haven't felt since Water Seven/EniesLobby and Marineford.

I mean.. the inconvenience of riding one. I understand Charlos' obsession of having a mermaid inside a tank filled with piranhas or having the Boa sisters as slaves…
But riding one.. all I see is the hassle while doing so.. they could atleast have a wagon or a carriage pulled by the same priced slaves just like the Germa's. -
And that crowny figure really seems to be a woman. I wasn't expecting that tbh, as the gorousei are a bunch of ol' geezers. But I'm so glad I
haven't lurked the Spoiler thread. Seeing those 5 bowing before the "not-so-empty"-throne was… Ka-boom! -

I'm confused about Bonney. Is she a legit queen of a kingdom with a secret pirate life here for the reverie or what

Most likely the daughter of kuma. And so when she ages herself she looks like her mother.
I wonder why there's only like 1/3 of the supposed number countries' heads of states at Reverie?
-

I would think so based on her reaction to Kuma
-
i don't this arch to end.
The revo sub story is hyping me to levels i have never reached before XD give me a fight right now and give me Dragon already.
what happened with Bonney, who she is? Kuma daughter ? -

So it seems like Shirahoshi is going to be attacked or chosen to be extinguished by Im-sama. Maybe this is what causes Leo and Sai to attack whoever attacks her, and causes the Straw Hats bt extension of them to be involved in this? Not necessarily that they show up, more so that because they get involved and they under Luffy, the World Government now has reason to attack Straw Hat outright. Which might give the pretext for Sakazuki to send an Admiral (most likely Ryokugyu) to Wano with an army.
Just spitballing.
-
Does the person sitting on the throne have hawk's eyes?

Based jaiminis

I always wondered why Luffy would be involved in a direct fight against the WG at Marijoie. But if Vivi is indeed a target of that "cleansing", I can see it happen that way now.

Sai and Leo defending Shirahoshi or Vivi would give the WG the pretext to directly attack the Straw Hats. So it could work.

-
Wow! The chapter was beautiful.
The 5 elders look and sound super clean, especially the cleansing panel!
This arc is getting better n better.

much important! that means Wano put on hold.

The cliffhanger baiting is strong in the Reverie, huh.
Overall, this chapter is a little clunky, IMO, with lots of weirdly placed expositive dialogues. I'm also not really feeling the Kuma/Bonney situation right now, but let's see.
But I quite like the ending. That scene was powerful and made the chapter for me. The round table page was beautiful too.

See, I am the opposite personally. I really like the Kuma and Bonney situation, at least it leading to something. But personally I am not a big fan of a single person being behind the entire WG. I just feel it's a little too sudden or rushed of a plot point, not to mention that I feel like Oda has established that the World Government is too big an organization to be ruled by a single person. I like the notion of the Five Elder Stars, because it meant that the world was ruled by a group of people in power who can keep each other in check, rather than just one person.

I just find it amazing how Oda manages to tie most, if not all Supernovas to the main story, considering how he invented all of them last-minute during Shabaody arc.
-
The thought of being stuck in some droopy musky cave with that giant gives me shivers.
-
Considering that Uranus is most likely a sky based ancient weapon (with Poseidon being the one below sea level, and Pluton the one in the middle), the Gorosei dude mentioning a cleansing seems to indicate they in fact possess Uranus, and it could be tied to either Im or just in their possession (also since they reside atop of the world and all that).
The Nefertari now probably chose to remain in Alabasta to watch over Pluton and prevent the WG to get 2/3 of the weapons, while Shirahoshi seems to have been kept secret, but with Im sama looming over her poster it may not be so.At this point i don't know anymore who will be the biggest threat between BB and Im, it could go either way and at least im excited for the possibilities.
-
I'm going to have fucking cardiac arrest or something before this arc ends. The past few chapters each pull so many awesomely WTF moments that I think the arc has to have peaked, only for the following chapter to top it. This chapter continued that trend, but this time I'm pretty sure the stuff shown here will have further whammies soon down the road. We're about to have the straw hat and the Gorosei come together to discuss the balance, and not only that, but we ALSO have Fujitora's and Cobra's discussion which will affect the balance just as heavily, and in a significantly more materializable way to boot.
The Kuma scene was heartbreaking to me and I never thought his character would be taken in such a direction. Bonney? Eh, I don't care much about her. Not yet, anyway. Just waiting for Oda to develop her.
The Kuma scene might have been enough of a whammy on its own, but fucking IM. I don't know why I like the name Im so much, but for who is possibly the Big Macdaddy of the whole world the sheer simplicity fits. Also, they remind me of another comic book character named Mim, the mother of dragons and the former keeper of the balance. Who knows, this Im could very easily be both those things.
It's spectacular how much of the world Luffy is unaware of, and Oda is really seizing on the opportunity he has now that Luffy currently isn't the main focus. Sure, there's always the possibility of crashing and burning that only increases the more ridiculous elements are added to this World Government lore, but as of right now, I'm extremely excited. I've been waiting for a time like this for five and a half years, and it's everything my 14-year-old self would have dreamed of.
-
So its pretty much confirmed that Zunisha was given the order to walk by Im, right?
-
Dunno, this chapter felt like a different manga.
Introducing a new "big baddie" after 20 years who is supposedly ruling the world behind the curtains is a bit awkward.
Nice to see Kuma again (albeit in a beyond awful state) and also Bonney…but wait, did she call him daddy? EDIT: Or does that speech bubble belong to Charlos?Fujitora meeting with the kings who were terrorized by Warlords is cool.
That "IM" person cut up pics of Luffy, Shirahoshi and Teach but kept Vivi´s, that´s a bit interesting.
Pretty uneventful overall, no "wow" moments for me compared to last time. -

Pretty sure it was stated that Oda had planned for the Supernovas to be revealed in the New World and only introduced them earlier in Sabaody because his editors wanted to spice things up in that arc, so they're not really a last-minute invention.

I believe their designs were thought up on the spot, but he had at least some idea of what future characters would be doing in the new world and simply introduced them earlier.

I don't have a problem with the Kuma/Bonney situation, but I'm just not emotionally connected to that plot yet, which is weird considering it looks so tragic.
I'd argue that the Gorousei still run the government for the most part and they still do this hypothetical "checks and balances" you talk about. This Im-sama guy is the tip of the iceberg above the Gorousei, but probably is only concerned with the ultra blaster mega super important subjects. And he seems to be particularly special to legitimize his authority over the Gorousei (like being an immortal being from the Void Century with some mysterious powers).
-
Well Im looks woman to me.

And I dunno about you, but I think riding on someone's back is more degrading than having them pull a cart. Convenience is still a factor; Charlos was annoyed to no end on Sabaody when he tried to ride on the back of a normal human and Roswald had to remind him that fishmen are best suited for that work since they're stronger.

I suppose so, but this just reminds me too much about Naruto and Madara. It feels too much like a random add-on, and not something that feels apart of the world. I believe in Oda to do it justice. But as it stands, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth you know?
-
Fujitora having a meeting with the kings of two countries who were invaded by Shichibukais. Dressrosa and Alabasta. This might be a start of him making a move against the Shichibukai system.
-
I wonder if Imu-sama is related to anyone in the series? Is the character a figurehead or are they that powerful that even they can order the Gotosei around?
I'm curious if the current guise we see is to mislead us and the character's shape will actually change the next time we see them? It wouldn't surprise me tbh. I do enjoy these smaller arcs that occur between the lengthier ones in the series. Oda packs so much detail in them and often brings back older characters so we can see what's going on with them. They also flesh the already detailed world out even more and remind readers that One Piece is about more than just a strawhat-wearing lad and his crew.

Ohh, so Madara Uchiha is the final villain in One Piece. Right right all makes sense now. The Jump Mascot is a pirate, Jojo's Bizzarre Propghecy spoke of the Intergenerational and weird adventures of world adventurers with occasional ghost powers. Ging and Luffy are gonna have a really hard time ending this fight!
Jokes aside. Very interesting chapter. Lots of different forces are acting at once. We've gone from One Piece to game of thrones (Then again I suppose the Pirate King is the greatest throne there is, making this O.G.)
As for somebody wondering about the shadow forces revealing himself after 20 years of serialization, I can only say It was kind of obvious there was somebody pulling it all. We dont even know the secrets of the Devil fruits yet, and oda has been tickling our special places with that tease for 15 years now. This definitely feels like One piece is in it's final act, and we still have at least 4 major arcs left. Its actually breath-taking, and now we also have what seems like a repeate of what caused the void century is going to occur - though it does beg one question. Luffy and the Worst Gen. are strong and all, but why did the WG not rage-quit and flip the board for Roger's generation? -

And imagine that last person being Enel, i know its unlikely but for some reason he gives me Enel vibes.
-
Could of been more. We got the cliche; OH MY SOMEONE IS A BOSS OF THE BOSS reveal
More of the Celestial Dragon's slave fetish is hammered into the audiences head. OK we get it ODA no one is suppose to defy god!!!
More Luffy hugging
And Pell looks like he is ready to evacuate everybody out of the building and take another nuke!
-
I wonder if Oda planned on having the Reverie coincide with the World Cup…
-
And imagine that last person being Enel, i know its unlikely but for some reason he gives me Enel vibes.
i thought I was the only one!
-
In retrospect, Bonney crying at the end of the Paramount War makes sense now.

I believe there is a good chance of Im being based on this dude: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Jimmu
