Nice to know even when politics is fucked up in places like the U.S., Israel, & The Philippines.
That at least one country can put a smile on your face.

Boris Johnson is the new Prime Minister of the UK.
And yes, Brexit is still a thing.
-
Boris is still going for that "… And Mexico is gonna pay for it" line of pitching Brexit to his divide nation i see. Let's check back in a year or two and see if they have gotten out of step one yet
-

Will the attempts to make it happen and failing laughably still be a thing?
-
Isn't Boris Johnson as bad as Trump?
-
@Stranger:
Isn't Boris Johnson as bad as Trump?
Eh. I'd say he's more like the Stallone to Donalds Ahnold.
One is clearly more competent and accomplished than the other.
But yes they are sort of similar in a number of ways. Mainly the bullshitting
-
Boris at least has experience in politics, so that's…something.
-
Boris is fronting Brexit, which is a far more long term disaster for the UK than Trump.

Interesting.
Boris at least has experience in politics, so that's…something.
So, means he's smarter than Trump?

Yeah…. I can't believe they are still going through with this.
@Johnny:
2021: "Wales vows to secede from failing English state".
That be interesting to see. I believe Scotland wants to secede as well.
Speaking of Brexit, what's been happening with that in the U.K?
-

To be fair isn't that essentially it's whole history from it being put to a vote (which won) to May's attempt to make it happen?
-
The most positivething I read about this, is that the new PM hasn't to deal with that one annoying guy named Boris…
-
Well at the very least it's comforting to know that we Americans aren't the only ones who elect shitty people into power
-
Well, this year's Halloween will be interesting on UK.
-
I'm truly curious to see how it all will end up down the line.
Like 10-15 years from now how will this brexit thing fall out
-
Well, this year's Halloween will be interesting on UK.
Yeah, it will. Seems he is leading the country to a no deal…. well guess the United Kingdom will split into smaller countries because of this, I don't know.
-
Looks like the far right could win the elections in Italy. The Ligua has become the biggest political party
I don’t even care anymore. I’ll just migrate to Québec when the far-right will win here

Wait a minute. The royal family still have a little of political power nowadays?

Wait a minute. The royal family still have a little of political power nowadays?
I think it is mostly a formality.
It isn't a request as much as a directive masked as one.
But i'm no expert on this subject.
-
Macron is honestly fully in his rights to just call London and tell them they're crashing out immediately.
-
He's probably quite busy defending his wifes honor atm.
But on the positive side BJ doing all this shitstirring is atleast doing something.
Does give you a feel that it might actually happen if nothing else
-
Welp that was a rather humiliating chain of events for BJ.
Seems like he's been left totally impotent to take any action

So you're saying the rut continues?
-
So you're saying the rut continues?
Well it's a bit more fun than that. He gambled high and got cockblocked on both crashing out and his forcing of a general election due to his threat to purge the tory party blowing up in his face and big names switched sides losing him his majority. But i mean this pretty much all leads to a new election, but the question remains if the opposition will manage to settle the forbid a no deal brexit law before that or if it's all up in the air come election time.
-
The last two/three days were very entertaining indeed. A worthy prelude for a brexit finale, if it happens.
-
Given all the focus on the English parliament around brexit, wouldn't it be just typical that everyone overlooks the prospect of the EU denying an extension, thus leading to a no-deal.

Seems unlikely, even if the French are posturing about it.

True, though someone did mention to me the prospect of the pm having to apply for an extension and then vetoing it during the vote may be a potential loophole, I have no idea on the validity of that in practice though and I'd expect that to be included within the brexit law.
More realistically, thoughts on the possibility of the pm not applying for an extension on the 19th and having the legal challenge tied up in court for 2 weeks, essentially forcing it though by default?
-
Well… This is all good, but don´t forget the reason why the EU gave the UK "only" until the 31st of October. On the 1st of November the new parliament of the EU starts its work and if the UK hasn´t left until then, their elected representatives will also be a part of the parliament and "have to work together" with all the other members. Not sure that will work well.
This is developing into a spiral of new date of leave, the UK stuck into indecision, extension from the EU, new date of leave, the UK stuck into indecision, extension from the EU,…
-
I could see BJ wanting to go out as the martyr of his cause by refusing to act on the law. But one would presume that the notion has occured to the opposition as well and that measures to hinder such an act have been considered. It's quite petty isn't it, this whole i'm going to force your hand one-upmanship. Really no other viable option but a new election and hopefully a solid majority either for or against a deal. Personally i hope for a deal, but the British public seem more keen on crashing out.

Question, how much will Britain leaving the EU effect other countries in the EU, and will they outwiegh the economic effect on Britain?
-
Question, how much will Britain leaving the EU effect other countries in the EU, and will they outwiegh the economic effect on Britain?
Hard to say really. It all depends on what deals are struck and what scenarios can be maneuvred to avoid. In the worst case scenario GB takes a full-on economic cliffdive and the rest of europe gradually slide down a loooong slope into recession. But if deals are struck it can be somewhere betwenn business as usual and this is worse but manageable. So it all depends on what is to come
-
There are also too many unpredictable aspects of European economy in general atm, like when will we get the Mercosur Free Trade Association and how will it affect the economy, what will Lagarde exactly do as new ECB president, what will the new Italian administration do regarding their budget, will Germany finally start spending money…
-

The general consensus is that it will of course effect the EU, but most countries used the past few years to actually prepare for the worst. It won't be pretty, especially for small and medium-sized businesses with ties to GB, but as a whole it won't be as severe.
Trump is the bigger issue here, by far. In comparison to US-tariffs the Brexit is an annoying afterthought at this point.
-
This is of course what the English refer to as project fear.
-insert reference to either world war and/or Churchill-

I seem to recall the same sort of things being said before the last extension was granted. Posturing and maintaining a sense of perceived superiority is the name of the game betwenn these two rivals, meanwhile Germany just sits back and observes.

That's true. Moreover Ireland should have the last word in this question and others will have to show solidarity.

Why nobody told me of this guy?

Why nobody told me of this guy?
The speaker of the house, John Bercow. As the speaker he should be impartial and much akin to a referee in a sports game in that if he did a good job, no one would know him.
Though he has announced he is stepping down on November 1st essentially.

The UK parliment feels like it's 70% booing, waving their papers, stomping, shouting order and right honorable insults. Seems much more free form and active than our equivilent which is basically a sleeping pill of people taking turns to read text in absolute silence.

John Bercow is super famous in the meme-world for saying "ordeeeeeerrrrr–rrrr"

What happened to the mead drinking and axe throwing, Wolf?
-
Aparently after 8.

@Johnny:

I think you mean drinking milk and going to bed at a reasonable hour. It is only socially acceptable to get cripplingly drunk on weekends so you can't be drunk in the riksdag. Dunno if its still cool to bring an axe tho, but unless they are drunk you can expect any of those toffs to throw an axe at anyone
