Does that mean Shiki gets a rematch? :ninja:

Oh yeah, I remember something about Oda giving up on the first script and redoing the whole thing from scratch, as he wanted to make the movie more entertaining and less emotional, or something like that.
I can see them reusing some ideas here and there maybe, but not adapting the whole thing, of course, as Oda didn't seem much happy with his first script to begin.
-
Wait what? Shiki wasn't always supposed to have been hiding for 20 years in order to set up a lame scheme that has him make weird creatures wild on East Blue? First time I hear about this.
-
As long as it's an original story, any OP game can get a bit of my attention. If Chopper uses his reindeer form to run, now you have my full attention.
-
If this game does well enough to earn a sequel, I'd like to see a setting that's kind of a homage to JRPGS like Dragon Quest in that's a kingdom that's got like knights and castles, and little goblin-like creatures. Stuff like that.
-
Or we could just wait and see what this game we know so little about turns out to before we start wishing for a sequel. Might aswell be that this game has an area with such elements. Might be that Jinbe will be part of the crew. Might be that the game sucks ass and be a one time thing only. Let's look forward at the thing we know will be coming out first.
-
Those kind of remind me of the Isu light puzzles from the Assassins Creed series.
-
These aren't really new. The official game twitter posted them a week ago.
But isn't the post you quoted from a week ago?

This week's magazine introduces a new character, a girl wearing a hoodie and holding a glass bottle.
-
I wonder if her last name is Job

I'm guessing she's this game's version of a RPG apothecary or something?

Dev Diary
Summer Games Fest Trailer
18 Minutes of Gameplay
From Orojapan on Twitter- In some combat situations, additional enemies may suddenly appear, such as giant monsters.
- Combined attacks cannot be activated automatically, certain conditions must be met first.
- Lim (the latest character in the game revealed in the WSJ) is a woman who hates pirates.
- Adio Suerte is an explorer who lives on the island where the main adventure of the game takes place.
- Special crew skills will be needed in certain areas of the island where you need to use them. You must use these skills in specific locations to complete your journey.
- Zoro destroys a closed road like closed doors.
- Franky builds you passages between 2 holes like this bridge.
- Lim lives on Waford Island where Luffy's crew drifted.
- Adio is an explorer also living on this island and was himself a castaway. He acts as a guide for Luffy's crew.
- When certain conditions are met during a fight, the "Kizuna" arts can be used to defeat any opponent.
Some Pictures -
Can't (not gonna) find a post about it but Smoker is sent after the Straw Hats, presumably by the Gorosei
-
I watched the gameplay and was impressed. It seems they put some real effort into it, and just didn't make a Dragon Quest clone.
Still would like to know more about the actual plot. There has to be more people on this island then just two people.
-
From what I can gather
Strawhats crash on Warford Island -> meet Lim and Audio -> Lim uses here power to take something from the Straw Hats (most likely levels and abilities (lvl41 -> lvl1) could be memories) -> crew goes on an adventure to regain what they lost -> learn more about Lim and Audio's goals, and tragedy -> save the day & leave Warford -> CreditsIt seems that pirates crash quite often on the island because the Lim & animals on it hate pirates. It seems that Warford Island holds a lot of secrets I just hope that they can be explained as natural phenomena in the one piece world and not magic, time travel, or whatever.
-
Oh yeah, I remember. This was first shown in the Japanese site, but thankfully, the people at the wiki translated it:
https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Colossus
So, it's some sort of animated statue that chases after the Straw Hats.....but also has a fire plume like a Lunarian.
-
@Johnny-B-Decent
at 2:41 in the 18 Minutes of Gameplay you can see what looks to be the body of the Colossus in that tree -
One Piece Odsssey Demo appeared at Gamescon.
it's the same Demo from Anime Expo so no new footage.
Here's a breakdown of it
-
Not even a release date? We are 4 months away of finishing the year...
-
My guess is that the game is finished, but they need to do the English translation so they can have a simultaneous release with the Japanese version.
They may try matching it up with the American release of Film Red, to create a One Piece Hype month in America. (Film Red, Odyessy, Live Action, and New Arc Hype)
We'll probably only hear it's release date a month or two before hand. -
Hmmm, makes sense! But the live action just wraped filming, so it probably won't be a thing before the second semester of 2023
-
They do the translations when the game is halfway underway.
They already announced it as an international release, meaning they had already started translating by then. The lack of precise release date by now is what's weird. I'm guessing they'll announce a December release date this September, creating a 2/3 months window to maximize hype.
Regardless of the genre or scope of the project anime games aren't usually delayed but they can still push it into 2023. -
Really wish we had at least a demo out by now

And World Seeker & NNS4 were delayed so it's not unprecedented.

It also hasn't helped we know barely anything about the plot. So, we got the token heroine, Calgara's long-lost descendant and a bunch of Meso-American looking ruins. I don't even think we've seen a town yet. XD

Isn't that the case for every One Piece game that came out so far?
-
Well, in the game footage we saw, you get Beli from fights, so logically there are things to spend it on.

I just hope this will not go tie into some stupid loot box or NFT crap. This is not unfounded worries because people here in Japan are more gullible and while NFTs have already run out of steam in the rest of the world, grifters are still taking advantage of the situation here. I really hope that we can avoid the trend since it's an anime game we're talking about.
-
@Ivotas I doubt they would add NFTs in a One Piece game. That would suck balls!
-
@Nitwit I doubt it too. But Japan is really embracing the entire crypto, blockchain and NFT madness so I can't say with a full confidence that the chances are 0%.
-
@Ivotas that would be major balls sadly
-
@Ivotas Square Enix selling their entire western division to use the money to invest into NFT just as the market is starting to crash will never not make me laugh.
Anyway, getting off-topic here. On the topic of release date, I wouldn’t mind a delay for this game, really. The more polished the game is, the better.
-
@All-Fiction Yeah, that was and still is hilarious.
Back on topic, I'm not worried so much about polish but rather about substance. All the One Piece game I played releases in a polished state with no bugs and glitches and proper working functions and mechanics. The problem is that those were rather lacking in substance in one way or the other (boring game loop, empty worlds with nothing to do, unimaginative quest design etc.)
Yes, I will by this game just like all the others because I'm an idiot. But I'm not expecting much. I'd rather replay Round the Land or Pirates Carnival if they would ever come to PSPlus with trophy support. Might not be the best games ever but they definitely have a lot of substance deserving of their genre. Also you could tell that the developers loved the source material.
-
On a different topic, shouldn't the thread title be changed now that we know this is an actual game coming out?
-
I'm not to worried about a Gacha system in this game because I think it's trying to be high profile with Banbai bringing it to (fake) E3, Anime Expo, Gamescon and uploading a dev dairy. The lack of a demo is a little concerning knowing they have one they're bring to cons so they have a working albeit small demo, 20 minutes in a however long game. The Game should have a serviceable story, since it sounds like they spent 2 years working on it before coming to Oda for approval, but I won't expect much. I seems like typical strawhat's lose all their powers and facing memories of old enemies to gain them back a bit similar to Unlimited Cruise and Ocean's Dream.
Thread name should be changed.
-
Tokyo Game Show in two weeks, hopefully we'll get a date and a demo
-
Release date: 13th Jan 2023 (and the previous day on Steam)
-
-
ok, Lim is batantly a game tool to nerf the protagonists and allow a visit to previous scenery. Not a great way to perform a "4-year-in-the-making" game, but let's see where they go with that.
It seems that PTS outfits are available as pre-order bonus. I hope we get access to more, way more.
DLC already planned. Hopefully with Jimbe at the core of it.
-
the game got delayed a little bit as many people guess.
-
Well isn't that nice, standard edition with pre-order bonuses with some ingame currency boost, deluxe edition with rare accessories, already announced DLC with even more ingame currency boosts and limited edition bundle. Is this Ubisoft handling this game or what? Went through this crap far too many times for my spider senses to not be tingling like crazy.
-
Ahh, so we're going the style of the Unlimited series with illusions and such. Oh well.
