Ah, in that case Roger and Rayleigh are certainly the only characters in the crew. Gaban has only been mentioned once by name. I really hope he does show himself some day.

The character selection seems perfectly straightforward. Shanks, Buggy, Marco, Jozu, and Teach are the most recognizable of the Roger and WB Pirates and will interest a greater demographic into picking up the volume. No one would care if Gaban was on the cover except the members of his church.
Jozu is like the first guy that got defeated fast in marineford from the wb pirates, post ts oda doesn't even bother to show him, or confirms if he is alive or dead, when even wb allies have been shown post ts. I don't know about his church, didn't knew that was a thing. The only thing jozu had going on for him was shilliew killing him and eating his fruit power but now that is dead too since shilliew got something else instead.
Scooper is commanding the armies of the pirate king in battle on equal ground with rayleigh.
Just because you don't care about him, it doesn't make him irrelevant.

Gaban is hardly a character. Him being alongside Rayleigh two panels means nothing.

Keep hope! I say this even though mine has mostly faded as well. For a while I thought he'd be the guy that Crocus was sharing a drink with, but it makes more sense to be Yorkie the more I thought on it.
Wano also has the best guys to dye your hair with, as seen by Kin'emon.

What did he do compared to raylegh, buggy, shanks or crocus? Nothing.
Well maybe the power scalers care about him, but in the story he is nothing so far.

Would have been a nice Luffy-less cover but Oda seems to like saving those for special occasions (which I'm guessing will be later in the arc when we maybe get a more "Beats Pirate/Kaido" centric cover)

It was long confirmed that it is just "human". Chopper is a reindeer.

I do like the headcanon that Chopper got the Mink model Human Human fruit.
But I think the other fun interpretation here is that this is how all zoan types look to the species they transform into. Like, Dalton can make himself look nigh indistinguishable to a normal bull as far as the human POV is concerned, but to real bulls, even his completely transformed state is deeply uncanny in a way only knowable by them. The actual species just knows that a transformed human isn't quite there, and that's what we're experiencing with Chopper.

I just posted this in the chapter thread as well, but it seems that the recent breaks basically confirm that this will be a ten chapter volume. Anything more than that and the chapters are going to be coming out dangerously close to the volume release. I'll be pretty surprised if chapter 974 doesn't end up being the last one here.
If there's no more breaks at all between here and chapter 975 it could maybe squeeze in, but I wouldn't put money on it.

I mean, they could, but that'd be a pretty shocking development, especially considering what a huge moneymaker a new One Piece volume tends to be. I hope it doesn't come to that.

I'm sure the volume would sell just fine even if it is delayed. Better to make sure you are happy with it's content.

I mean, the volume will probably sell as well as ever, sure, but the business has probably been running on the expectation of the big April cash injection from the new One Piece. Similar to how the anime can't go seasonal because of how much of Toei's budget would have to be structured around the revenue generated by its year-round run, Sheisha will have plans in motion that expect the usual amount of One Piece cashflow around that time, so they will push hard against any kind of delay.
Of course they're a big enough business with enough brands that it won't cripple them if it comes in a little late, but they'll still be unhappy enough about it to be avoiding it at all costs.
And I think the question is less of the quality of the content and more whether the content exists at all at the time they have to be printing and shipping the thing.

Yeah. That's what I meant. If you don't have enough content for the volume or what you want in it; delay the release until you do.

Yeah, if it's a chapter short at the time of printing that becomes inevitable. I doubt they could pull together enough fanart or merch ads or whatever other extra content available to make a whole chapter's worth of pages (the Boichi cover and the Shokugeki no Sanji things are still out there I guess, but I still think they'll get their own standalone book when there's enough of them).
What I can see is an expedited printing process for a late chapter or the book going from eleven chapters early in planning to ten later on to still get out time. (Rumour says the final chapter of volume 52 was moved into the next volume at the last minute, which would make it not unprecedented, but I'd take that with a grain of salt.) Essentially, if a tenth chapter is completed even close to the usual deadline it wouldn't shock me if they rush whatever needs to be rushed to push the book over the line. Unfortunately, we don't have hard numbers on when that deadline is and how far in advance of magazine printing the chapters are locked in, so all we can really do is speculate.

Not a once. We've known about his role and name since 2012 from a databook, but haven't learned anything else about him, really.
Before attacking Oden, Roger yells out "Rayleigh! Scopper! Leave it to me!" Or something to that effect.
So Scopper's name is said at least once on panel.

Technically Oda has already finished the next few chapters even if these chapters have yet to be released in the Jump magazine. I guess Shueisha can add chapter 975 just fine to end the volume if they want to, even if its weekly release comes out just some days/week before the volume.

Greg kinda confirmed his statement when he tried to calm people down: he said that even that Oda was sick it was a problem that occured around 2-3 weeks ago, hence why he thinks Oda isn't infected with corvid-19.

Printing schedules mean the author is about three weeks ahead of the reader seeing the story. When there's a sudden gap due to illness, it already happened well before we find out about it. Anything major would have been news weeks before the magazine came out.

I'm not familiar with that one, but I do recall Assassination Classroom's last volume being at least half fluff. Some of it wasn't even properly related fluff either, like a oneshot the author had done previously that was rejected for a series.
I doubt there's many examples of that kind of thing actually happening in the middle of an ongoing series though. And luckily we're worked out Oda probably has enough time that it won't be an issue here.

Found this on Scotch Informer's twitter (sorry if I'm sniping the post from you, Scotch). It is reportedly the final colours. (Title: "I am Oden, I Was Born to Boil")
Take this with a grain of salt because the background is way off from the usual style. Pretty good approximation of Oda's colouring and textures if it is fanart though. And of course Oda would troll us by putting a filter over Oden to keep his official colours hidden lmao (though I will admit it is effective for the palette of the piece as a whole)

Actually, more reasons to consider fakery aside from the background not having the right map overlay - the title and logo just don't work. If you resize the One Piece logo to match the size and placement of previous covers, keeping the proportions in mind, the volume title text would run off the edge of the page.
If this is a genuine leak, it's probably an early mock up and we should get the final, properly cropped and proportioned one around Friday (hopefully). If it's a fake or just a badly-labelled fan-colouring, it's the highest quality one I've seen.
