Weekly Shonen Jump issue 34 (22nd July) will have new ONE PIECE spin-off manga called "Roronoa Zoro falls into the sea", which will be drawn by Boichi, author of Dr. Stone.
This title is the same as chapter 51, so it most likely focuses on the battle between Zoro and Mihawk. Some people may remember the spin-off manga about Sanji last year.

Any other time this would be great news, but it feels like a little bit of a tease to do it after the first installment of a new cover story lmao

Boichi drawing OP, that will be damn fine^^
-
If I remember correctly, in the second volume of Ace's Novel (maybe chapter 4 or 5) was mentioned a pirate assault, led by varoius captains among which there were A.O and Doma, to Whitebeard's territory.
And behind all of this there was another Younkou (not specified)I would like to know if any of you has more specific info about this incident

Is that hard to make an ACTUAL, canon spinoff??
Maybe about Whitebeard pirates? His allies? Supernovas? Marines? Revolutionaries??
They don't even need to design new characters, they could just take some random fodder from level 4 and 5 and make a villain out of him, since he's supposed to have a bounty around 100 millions (!?). Or a Movie villain. Or a fodder from Level 6.
Are all of these "official" spinoff more interesting than canon spinoffs? Really?? -
Why would they do a canon spinoff about characters who are still relevant and important to the story?
Spinoffs like these are only meant to be fun side media that doesn't fracture the story. Creating canon spinoffs that run tandem to the original is a recipe for convolution and confusion. -
Apart from Marco e some other commander, Whitebeard pirates and his allies are not likely to be relevant to the story anymore. The names of the commanders were given just as "additional information". Not to mention how Oda seems pissed off when someone asks him about Andre & Candre.. I'd really like know why he introduced them in the first place
And it's not likely that he's going to tell us what supernovas experienced in Paradise, or something about the countless anonymous monsters kept in Impel Down. Maybe the revolutionaries will be given a little more attention.
As it is, the story seems to say that interesting stuff happens only when mugiwara is around
..So why not use them for some irrilevant but interesting novel, set in the past? I know they just started doing something about Ace and Law, but I still see hundreds of characters wasted -
Considering a canon spinoff would need more direct input from Oda to avoid going off the rails, yes, it would take quite a bit of time and effort that could be used for other things

Wait so are there Hero Aca characters in this thing or not then? My level of interest in it kind of depends on the answer.

Also yes, as everyone's saying, a canon spinoff would definitely be that hard to do. And even if it wasn't, I'd actually rather there not be too much canon material outside the main series. One of the saving graces of One Piece's titanic length is that unlike say, most long-running western comics, is that it's straightforward. There's no reboots or alternate timelines and barely anything that could be considered expanded universe material. You can start at chapter 1 and read only the main series and miss nothing. The series doesn't need a million branching paths of canon and psuedo-canon side stories to stretch the worldbuilding further; it's world is plenty huge as a self-contained thing.

Are all of these "official" spinoff more interesting than canon spinoffs? Really??It really depends on the scope, I think. Are you, by chance, familiar with the "A Certain Magical Index" series and its various spin-offs? Because I think those are a prime example of what a canon One Piece spin-off would have to look like.
In case you're not familiar, the simple run down is that all the series in that franchise share the same, very tightly scheduled timeline (pretty much everything not in a flashback occurs within the first four months of the start of the main series, which itself has only just gotten past the 6 month threshold after more than 40 light novels) and their character pools frequently overlap with one another. The original author is heavily involved in each spin-off, both to help keep characterization and plot themes consistent with the world, and also to ensure that the timeline doesn't get tangled - if Series A has a character dealing with Incident X at a particular point in time, Series B can't have them somewhere entirely different dealing with Incident Y at the same time.
While the world of One Piece is nowhere near as tightly controlled timeline wise, it's also a lot more difficult and time-consuming for characters to travel from point A to point B (Index is near future with supersonic passenger jets - you can be on the other side of the world in half a day), and the events of fairly small events can have cascade effects that cause major issues all over the world. The more prominent that characters in the cast are, the more difficult it becomes to explain why their actions haven't influenced events in the main series, and vice versa.
As fun as it would be to see a fully developed story centered on the Marines or <insert favorite="" pirate="" crew="" here="">, it's important to remember that this is a massive, highly interconnected world where people and events bounce off of each other in wildly consequential ways. Both a spin-off and the main series would have to account for that.</insert>

Imo, this is the main point why we won't see cannon-ish spin offs until the series is over.
From what we know, Oda likes to surprise not only the reader but also himself and he has changed ideas several times mid-series, either with story beats or even character designs. If he had to also keep track of what the spin offs were doing he would be clipping his own wings for the future.Still, we get small doses of spin offs from time to time. These recent OP movies, which Oda was more involved in, cointan new informations about some characters even if they're not cannon. And we got ligth novels about Law and Ace, it may not be everyone's intended medium for the spin off but it's one nonetheless.
But I personally can see bigger spin offs after OP has ended. I don't think Oda would "sell out" and let anyone tell any story with his world but I think he would be content with going the Toriyama route, where he creates a couple of characters and scenarios or expands on some existing ones and let someone else take care of the rest and turn it into a movie or a series. -

One Piece in Love Volume 05 cover!!
-
I saw it first on twitter, and I gotta say, glimpsing what appeared to be the top part of a new One Piece cover as I scrolled, when the volume 97 cover is so long over due (or I guess the usual amount of due relative to the pushed-back release date), then continuing down to see what it actually is was a painful way to raise and then dash my own hopes.
-
I'm now curious about this OP in Love thing and frustrated there don't seem to be any scans of it.

I'm hoping, though it could just be the Mugiwara Theatre stories and not the shorter 4Koma stuff.
