This is giving me early Dragon Ball vibes, you have this technological proficient teen with a boy isolated from civilizations, it's great, although I had to groan when I saw the word "guild". Next time, not Erza?

Could Mashima get just a tad more creative regarding his characters? I didn't like them in Fairy Tail, so why should I care about them now?. The spread with the Thanos Lady was pretty dope, though.

I'm trying REALLY hard to not bring in Fairy Tail's baggage into this new series, but he's making it so fucking hard. So hard.

The "actors cast in different roles" is actually a thing Osamu Tezuka used to do with his stories. I like to believe that Naoki Urasawa is doing a similar thing, and I would not hold it against Mashima if that's what this is. But he had actual characters from Rave re-appear in Fairy Tail with no real connection, so who knows.

Is Elcy a combination of Elsa and Lucy? Does the symbol on her cloak have something to do with the Fairy Tail brand? Are these just nods, or is this a story set in the far future (note the guy talking about "stuff from the dark ages")? I don't think Mashima thinks too much about any of this and just does whatever he wants. He's set this universe up in a way that anything can happen.

Other than that, it's tasteless fanservice, a penis joke, an okama joke, the protagonist is a pervert, friendship, friendship, friendship. Good old Mashima.

At least the girl is already more badass than Lucy ever was.

So we ended up with space wizards after all? Recycled heroine (not a writer but a Vlogger), literally recycled cat mascot and wild protagonist mix of Gray and Natsu. I laughed halfway reading, but merely because of the cringe. The fighting parts haven't gotten any better compared to the last time and the fanservice have already gone out of control.

To think that this is separate manga (one-shot it may be) and he's also working on FT sequel at the same time. Is Mashima a mortal just like the rest of us, or he's actually the vessel of a washed-out god of creation?

Yes because some of us know the difference between decent series and what something like Edens Zero belongs ( Black clover, Dragon ball).
I just can only see this becoming absolute hysterical and cringe, especially that fanservice planetsized blue Lady.

Just a daily remainder that Hiro Mashima is responsible for writing two of the most laziest shonen series in the history.

Even if Hiro didn't write those two utter garbage series, Eden's Zero would still be received pretty damn horribly.

Unless this is your first book ever and don't have any real standards.

The first chapter is pretty much a parody of shonen with friendship being repeated 300 times and the only interesting part happens in the last 2-3 pages. So I think bad opinions of Eden's ZEro would be prevailing no matter what.

Now chapter having the happy background and some nice design would definitely work better without prior knowledge of fairy tail. It wouldn't be considered great but it might be consider non-offensive/decent or even having potential.

Reading chapter 3 and I think it's clear that Shiki ( Space Natsu ) anti-social and obsessive focus on friends is meant to be tongue in cheek.

I mean in this chapter

! Older space wendy insults Space Lucy's YouTube channel
She ends up crying a bit over it in a scene played for laughs
Space Natsu gets all serious picks wendy up in one arm and says " dont ever make my friends cry"
Lucy smacks him upside the head with a stick before he can do anything and is embarrassed
Wendy wants to get him on her channel now

IDK it seems a lot more loose of a story and like it's not taking itself too seriously, for now at least. And if Mashima is aware of his tropes sticking out maybe he'll exercise more moderation or at least not play all of them as straight as he did in fairy tail.

It's not just two of them, some other members were there too. Someone in particular was by herself for some reason. I'm not sure I like the idea of reusing old existing characters this way. Not to mention, lookalike character that might as well be old character under guise (looking at you, NotErza). Best part is probably Space Wendy's detached side ponytail. I mean, what's up with that.

For a set-up chapter, it's okay. At least now they have a 'goal' to work forward, so to speak. Instead of finding Dragon Dad, it's Space Mom… okay, I'll just stop it right there.

I'd give it better than 70:30 odds that we will see recycled story lines, and 100% odds that we will see recycled powers.

I have an issue with the translation, Japanesse seems to use "star" for any celestial body, planets, moons, actual stars. I'd rather if they were to use "celestial body" or something else for when it's just used, and detail it more if it is known.

It seems like we just have to accept that Fairy Tail characters are just going to be recycled here. I guess If I'm going to propperly complain about this manga I have to get over that. I'll care a little more if it's a complete copy/paste including personality and backstory. The idea of the "Ink actors" sounds at least more interesting.

Space Natsu was raised in an RPG town, so it makes sense for him to see the world like that.

In the end it is shitty, but I was missing bleach/fairy tail/naruto, Boruto is just monthly and Black Clover's stupidity sometimes makes me happy.

I don't mind repeating character design. One of the best shounen mangaka currently living,Hiromu Arakawa, does that. Heck, even Oda makes Nami clones most of the times. But the problem is repeating all types of previous designs en-masse. And the bigger problem is repeating plot lines. Even before he began writing Eden's Zero, i knew the basic structure would be same. Mashima is that type of mangaka…

Black Leg

The difference is Mashima is a hack of a writer and when he has a 'cameo appearance' it just feels like he's being lazy because he's been writing the same shitty story for years. In Silver Spoon when The gym teacher looks like Major Armstrong it's a a fun little cameo because Silver Spoon and Full Metal Alchemist feel like completely different worlds and the only link between them is the Hiromu Arakawa. When Mashima just drops Jet, Droy, Levi, Erza, Plue, Happy and all his other recyclables it just feels lazy as they're still in a world full of Magic, Guilds and hit jokes, only this time blonde big tit main girl has a different white girl name.
