Also for Punk Hazard, which is 50 episodes. Do you think 4 box sets (two with 12 eps, and 2 with 13 eps) or 5 sets of 10 episodes?
Hopefully the former. I always hate how they can milk an extra set (extra $35) just because they skimp on a few earlier sets. Have they done that before? I can't remember them putting out multiple ten episode sets in a season.

I'd like a release like that, but it sees unlikely any time soon. Each crossover is half a Toriko episode, and Funi stopped released new Toriko DVDs over four years ago. Unless they'd licensed those episodes for DVD when they picked up their first (and evidently only) batch of episodes and just never announced it, then they'd have to convince Toei to let them have just those three crossover episodes even with no intention of licensing the rest of it. Also AFAIK the OP + Toriko + Dragon Ball crossover hasn't even been released on DVD in Japan, making it even less likely. It's kind of baffling that Toei included them in the official episode count, but then skipped for the DVDs and international versions.
As an extra dose of bed news, the upcoming specials aren't crossovers; they seem to just be a double bill of One Piece episodes one week, and another for Dragon Ball Super the next.
Is it just me or does Mr. 1 sound like he was recorded through a phone in Season 8 Voyage 5?
The laughs were always a thing in the japanese version. As for the dub, I believe they weren't used at all until Season 4, with a few exceptions (e.g. Dorry and Broggy)
Nezumi kept his laugh, as did Mr. 4, and Eneru once or twice. But yeah, Season 4 is officially where basically all characters kept their laughs. Except for Arlong, which didn't happen until Season 9.
It's way too late for this but I want to hear Colleen's take on Luffy's "shishishi".
The Hatchi flashbacks were weird. I hate the manga trope of flashing back to ten minutes ago…
I watched the two new dub episodes on FUNi's site. Glad they decided to stick with Patrick Seitz for Kuroobi in the Fishman flashback, despite now playing Franky. Jay Hickman also returned as Choo (Chu? Chuu? They spelled it Choo this time), despite also now playing Hammond.
Young Koala sounded great. The entire flashback was excellent. I can't get enough of Jimbei's dub voice. It's spectacular.
Franky VA Kazuki Yao also play other OP caracters. SO IT IS OK.
I know, but our English dub directors have made it a point not to have the chief actors play anyone other than the Straw Hats, outside of special circumstances where it's warranted, or follows the Japanese dub. Franky hadn't been casted yet when Arlong Park was dubbed (or had he for the video game?). Either way, I'm glad they decided to maintain consistency.
He had for the game at that point but I'm sure it was just seen as something that wouldn't be a big deal partially since it was so far off, just like how we've seen other Straw at dub voices pop up as random characters a couple times (Colleen did that redhead in Bellamy's crew, Brina did a filler Loguetown chef Sanji faced off with, etc.)

The dvd release haven't gotten to Punk Hazard yet. Since the dvd release is in the middle of Fishman Island. So we won't find out if the dvd will have Hands up until next year.

I was anxious about this too. Do we know if the episodes on Funimation and Crunchy Roll have "Hands Up" added as the opening again, or is it still "We Go"? Cause if they fixed it there, I think our chances are pretty good
I know on crunchyroll for episodes 591 - 618, it does have Hands Up. While episodes 619 - 628 have We Go.

Maybe it's because of the scheduling for recording Season 10 because Law's VA, Matthew Mercer, lives in LA and is pretty busy so maybe they're waiting longer so they can get further into dubbing Season 10 before finishing Season 9's release

Haha. I like you're argument here, which is essentially that the filler scene is forgettable enough to not be a problem. Fair enough.
It’s forgettable in the sense that during weekly viewing , this scene would’ve been months ago anyway. And subsequent I guess the release schedule for this show is so damn long, we might not have an issue here either.

I was still a One Piece n00b when the new dub premiered on Toonami. I had seen bits and pieces of the 4Kids! dub, but mostly avoided it, already knowing that the show had been butchered, and there was really no way to watch it in Japanese. I officially started watching One Piece religiously with the premiere of the FUNi dub ten years ago, and then also watched the simulcast when that premiered. Over the past ten years, I've caught up on every episode, and own most of the manga.
Wow, 10 years. Doesn't feel that long ago in the grand scheme of things. So glad to see the dub going full steam. Here's to another 10 years guys!

Oddly enough, FUNi's simulcast treats the two new episodes, that made up the new one hour special, as one double length episode rather than two with the master that they were given being one long episode that has some differences from the CR masters such as the episode title card for 807 being used for the entire episode with no mention of it being "Part 1" on the title card, and no text showing up on screen in the second half to indicate that it's "Part 2". I guess this is how Toei sent it to them and it seems like it'll be this way when they dub it too which makes me wonder if the DVD set that'll have this episode will have 11 episodes on it rather than 12, due to it's double length

I've been reading the manga since, I think, a year or two before the 4Kids dub. And I was young enough to enjoy the 4Kids dub when it was on, despite its severe flaws and complete failure as an adaptation. But thank god for Funi. I can't imagine how irritated I'd be if 4Kids had it now, at my age. I probably wouldn't even be watching it.
Ten years down. We'll see Whole Cake Island in another ten. Hang in there, folks!

Amazon got One Piece Season 9, Voyage 3 for 28.59 now.
Only a few days away. I've been rationing to one episode a week, so I'm still three or four episodes from done with the last set. Will probably knock it up to two per week until we finish the flashback. Still irritating that we're not getting a new set until at least January. Hopefully it's the very beginning of January, which would only make it a 2-3 week delay.

So he just goes back to One Piece whenever he doesn't have another show to direct? Odd. He seems to just direct the beginning of arcs now? We'll assume they're doing Punk Hazard; no way they're still wrapping up Fishman Island. So hopefully the delay was as Great Captain Usopp suspected–only to let them get farther into PH so we won't have too bad a break between seasons. (Though I hate any break at all, I'm more willing to have breaks between seasons than sets. In an ideal world, I'd prefer they'd just release an arc at a time.)

I wish that he would take on a whole arc but considering that AOT Season 3 is probably around the corner, he'll probably only get to direct a set or two. Considering that he took over directing the show when Joel was directing Film Gold and Heart of Gold last year, I wonder if Joel is working on a special or something

Hopefully Mike sticks around for Punk Hazard and a portion of Dressrosa or splits Dressrosa with Joel considering how long it is. Because of how important those two arcs are, I feel it would be good for Mike to be directly involved for a while.
Anyway, I've been continuing the flashbacks on the latest set. Just throwing this out there but I have to say that I've thoroughly enjoyed the dub work for Fisher Tiger and Otohime. Excellent acting all around. As I said before, I actually think the flashback is the highlight of the arc and has the best pacing compared to later stuff. The theme of racism is well handled by Oda and I feel it's something that makes this arc worth existing even with its flaws.
But I think my favorite parts of the flashback aside from Koala (it's so interesting going back to this now) would have to be seeing how big and bad Arlong was in early East Blue episodes and how in reality he gets manhandled by the likes of Jinbei and Kizaru. It does a good job showing the power scaling of the New World versus the weaker seas.
Lordy. I'd forgotten that Dressrosa was right after Punk Hazard. What an absurdly long arc. I'll be savoring Punk Hazard, that's for sure.
I forgot to discuss the actual content of the discs. Every episode was thoroughly enjoyable. Aside from one error of on-screen English text, the casting and acting for everyone was perfect. I'm having a blast watching this arc for only the second time ever.

Look, I like One Piece a lot; it's a fun show with great characters. I really wanted it to succeed here. It didn't, and maintaining some kind of oddball faith that the second 4Kids' license expires, perpetually cranky and unreasonable licensor Toei is going to suddenly turn around and sell the show off to Funimation or whoever and they're going to churn out giant, cheap, uncut, subtitled box sets is foolish.
