Now "The Way We Were" By Barbra Streisand starts playin.

So not only have we reverted to the old Van Ogre spelling (despite them changing it to Augur like 15 years ago and it being spelled correctly ON SCREEN) but it has at least once been pronounced like the creature by the narrator. For some reason.
He is my favorite blackbeard pirate besides probably the man himself I think I am going to start hurting people.
There have been some...changes lately regarding terminology. The Crunchyroll simulcast suddenly changed some names beginning with a few episodes ago.
Teech is now Teach.
Flare-Flare Fruit is now Flame-Flame Fruit.
Jimbei is suddenly Jinbe.
Now that Toei has themselves jumped into uploading One Piece content in English, as well as subtitling (seemingly) their own next episode previews and post-episode segments, I had been paying attention out of curiosity to see what names they go with.
Van Ogre shocks me, though.

We had always assumed years ago that the only reason FUNi made the gold logo was to differentiate their products with the blue logo 4Kids! products that were still available in 2007.
-
I don't know if anyone else have mention this. On the episode listings on Collection 34 cover, Elbaf is spelled as Elbaph, while on the episode itself and the subtitles for the episodes, it's Elbaf. From what I know, the subtitles on the home video release have a different translation then the simulcast version of the episodes. I checked this alot during when Dressrosa was coming out on blu ray as well starting doing this again as Whole Cake Island coming out.
I mean the dub fixed alot of things from the simulcast of Wano like the simulcast called The Beast Pirates, the Animal Kingdom Pirates. While the dub called them the Beast Pirates. So I won't be surprised if the home video release of Wano that on the subtitle version of the Wano episodes, the Beast Pirates will be the Beast Pirates.
-
@Sano Toei Animation, and specifically Oda, is currently adjusting the system and providing Crunchyroll with official spellings for certain names. While this may seem unusual, it appears to be the current protocol.
-
I also noticed on the subtitle episodes of the Zou arc blu ray (Collection 31) used Teech instead of Teach (For pretty much all the episodes with Blackbeard full name was mentioned on the home video release used Teach up to that point.) I don't know if that a mistake or not, but it will be interesting to see what happens with the Blackbeard episode on Season 14, Voyage 3.

@G1Ravage It was a nice theory, but seeing as they were 4Kids' successor and they weren't competing with them, it doesn't make much sense to do this just to differentiate it from the past product. I'm sure it was just a creative decision someone made, simply because Funimation had a penchant for making new logos for a lot of their shows in the 2000s... even if the original logo was completely fine.
Gotta say though, I'm kinda glad to see the gold logo gone. It just ended up being more trouble than it's worth, especially if the original blue logo was animated in some kind of way. Some of the openings and eyecatches just looked kinda off whenever the gold logo was just sorta shoehorned in there.

The simulcast has gone back and forth between Teech and Teach several times through the years.

Back when the Funimation site was still in service they would upload an "uncut" version of the subs (which was the version they upload to the Microsoft Store/ home video). Aside from the one episode you mentioned they would always change Teech back to Teach, even during Wano
In general, Toei can't seem to decide what they want to do with their terminology for the simulcast. And even when they commit to going back and fixing things for later releases they aren’t even always consistent with that. The translations have certainly become more of an inconsistent mess since Toei started handling them
-
Yeah, both Dragon Ball (the simulcast of Super) and Precure have similar problems with Toei as well with inconsistent translation.
-
For a long show like this with sooo many different people working on it, inconsistency is inevitable.

GLITTER FORCE!
Glitter Force (oh, oh)
Glitter Force (oh, oh)
Glitter Force (oh, oh), oh, oh oh oh
You know this time will last forever
And you can see we'll bond together
Here and always hold our ground
When we see how truth and friends can still be found
Here we go (go, go)
Glitter Force (go, go)
Shining bright this light so we can find our way
And forever and ever we will say
Here we go (go, go)
Glitter Force (go, go)
Shining bright this life that we will see each day
And forever and ever we'll stay Glitter Force
(Glitter Force, Glitter Force)Seriously speaking, at least we havent gotten to Hugtto, where the inconsistent translations will be a real problem.
Also I wish they said FUCK CONSISTENCY and just had Van Augur and Elbaf back. SERIOUSLY "Van Ogre" and "Elbaph" are shitty 4kids shit that should have died already.
-
From what I understand for the Precure translations, the simulcasts seasons (Healin Good - Wonderful) are using Toei's translations. While the non simulcast seasons (OG, Splash Star, Princess - Kira Kira), Crunchyroll are translating themselves.

Now that the dub is pretty much caught up, i wonder if that means if there is a new Pirate Warriors game can we finally get a dub since the excuse from before was that the dub was too far behind and it would be a lot of casting needing to be done
-
@AceLuffy4ever I'm sure there won't be any excuses now. I have been hearing rumors that the next DLC for Sea of Thieves is going to feature the Strawhats and it will be the same English dub cast from the Funimation dub. Hoping that one is true because it is pretty funny that their first return to dubbing pirate games is in a Rare game of all thing.

Remember when Mato was here telling us about Toei's ironclad list of spellings they had to follow? It sounded like it was incredibly difficult to fight for any changes to it, unless it was egregiously incorrect. It came across like Toei was extremely protective after the failings with 4Kids. But it'd mean consistency at least, I guess that's all out the window now?
And then there's the issue between mediums. I wish there could be communication between those teams to keep things consistent. Spy x Family anime subtitles, dub, and manga stood out recently as a slight annoyance because Anya's nickname for Damien is something different in every medium.
I've been putting together a guide for a different website (shh) and it makes the job so much harder when the manga chapter title and the corresponding anime episode title doesn't match! It'd be nice to have a source of truth!
I was bummed to see (or reminded of?) Elbaph in the recent chapters because it was my headcanon from way back that Elbaf was backwards for Fable. I don't think there was any official confirmation on that but I sure felt super duper smart in high school when I posted about it.
-
Since no one said anything about it. Did Toei dub the information segment with Robin and Chopper (Later become Lilith and Edison segment)? Since those segment starts on Season 15, Voyage 1.
-
Yeah, they did. I don't see why they wouldn't.

I stand by it, other than some shoddy work by Joel's directing, One Piece's dubbing and releases have been great. Especially when compared to Dragon Ball and everything that went SO FUCKING WRONG in that franchise.
Not to mention not dropping it when it seemed like it would be a middling hit at best, sure they probably did consider doing so (The infamous hiatus where it indeed looked like they would) and Toei and the Japanese gov had to step in, but the way they treat One Piece is great-

The Japanese government got involved damn!

Dont worry, they just provided funding incentives so Funimation felt motivated to finish the dub. They didnt do a 1984.

@Captain-Krupp true true.

Pardon me if I missed someone’s post; but collection 35 was announced with Katakuri on the cover.

Crunchyroll December releases are out. There is no One Piece releases for December.
-
@Sano that blows! Thanks for the news
-
Just ordered my rereleased Collection 34. Still bummed out that we got Brook on this cover and not Capone.
Any thoughts on who will be on 36? Still haven't had Big Mom, but they could save her for Wano. Could be Carrot, Reiju, Judge, Vivi, or Pudding? Hopefully not a Strawhat again -
Season 15, Voyage 1 is up on Crunchyroll. Also a heads up the dub episodes 1089 - 1096 and the Law recap episode ( The Egghead arc episodes) is in the Wano section, not the correct Egghead section.
-
@Sano At least some of the episodes don't work when I clip them. And yeah, they're all listed in the Wano subheading. You've just caught them in the process of uploading; I'd expect them to bew fixed by tonight.
-
Yeah, the only reason I saw that the episodes were up because I was watching other stuff on crunchyroll. I'm still behind on the dub, since I'm up to Episode 1041( The beginning of the finale of Jimbei vs. Who Who's.).
-
The official english One Piece youtube channel post the dub preview of 1097 (The first episode of Season 15, Voyage 2).

Just yesterday the 4Kids dub turned 20 years old.

Anyone have thoughts from the newest set since it went up? I’ve been rationing, so only watched the first two. The Buggy episode was amusing, but I hated what a structural mess it felt like—jumping back and forth in time every minute.
-
Wano physical release is starting in December
-
@Raffy great news. Thanks for the post.
-
And still no special features. I wonder if there is anyone to contact about asking for more inclusions. A Blooper reel, Behind the Scenes, Talks with ADR or other engineers, More Panel recordings, I would take anything to make the physical versions worth a little more than the streaming subscription I already have
-
The thread's title has meaning again!
-
@Captain-Krupp yup
-
I am surprised there arent more than 14 seasons by now lol.

@Captain-Krupp 4Kids was ahead of their time when they had Luffy voiced by Woody the Woodpecker now Gear 5 is basically that. Foreshadowing works with 4Kids

I gotta admit 4kids had VERY talented voice actors that were EXTREMELY limited by shoddy directing. I am sad only a few made a living voice acting elsewhere. They were good.

If I were a betting man, I would put good odds on the anime coming back in april with a simuldub.
