This is what a good Torkio chapter looks like.
Toriko III: It's Over!!

-
@Myu:
I mean I'd feel a bit better to see Shigematsu, dunno rly why tho. Nobody cares about him, nor do i. I just like the man's design.
A lovely goodbye from Shima.
But he got Rekt.
Not Starjun rekt. He got really really rekt.
-
I hope a good studio picks up the series for a re-adaptation. Hunter x hunter or Brotherhood style.
-
Hell, I can't hate the series after this chapter. Even if Shima rushed for no apparent reason and skipped pretty much everything after the human world, this chapter made me realize that the time I spent on reading Toriko was well-spent.
-
At least the last chapter wasnt that bad. Good point on Shima to only remember the series before it turned into a giant pile of turd.
-
Still can't "accept" Neo's redemption…he has done nothing to deserve to be there just eating with everyone
the chapter remembered me the good parts of this manga but also when and why it went downhill
Me neither, Neo was pure evil manifest, regardless how you slice it. I hope to god he didn't kill of the 8 Kings indefinetly and took the seat, cause that would be Kubo-level troll from Shima.
EDIT: never mind that last part, I missed the panels last chapter where they got healed. Still, think they were warranted a cameo at the feast, even if they are enormous, they could be kicking it in the garden.
-

There is still one morechapter.
-
While the neo thing is definitely rushed, and the fact that Acacia WOULD have shared a meal with him and render all this issue moot, I don't hold the logic against them. He was a wild hungry beast that couldn't be saciated, then he got saciated and tamed.
-
Fantastic chapter!! Itadakimasu indeed!!
Final chapter must be focused on the 4 heavenly kings and their pets. Maybe with them all guarding their respective areas of Gourmet worlds!!
I can't wait!! I hope Shima only takes a short break and comes back with a new series next year!!
-
Can't help but get kinda emotional at this chapter. Which makes it even more annoying that the past few years have been garbage!
-
Wow, I liked this chapter a bit. Inserting all of the various ingredients Toriko and Komatsu collected rather than just the Full Course itself was an excellent touch. I only wish that the flashbacks were more spread out (such as brief glimpses of the Shining Gourami, Mellow Cola, and Meteor Garlic retrievals). Which would hopefully at least give the SLIGHTEST bit of attention to the contributions of the other Four Heavenly Kings throughout the series.
And I was wondering why Shimabukuro was so keen on not showing Froese's face. It was beginning to annoy me, but that payoff was definitely worth it. Although… Froese not even glancing at her two kids that she saved while freaking Acacia could bothers me a bit. But Setsuno's tear at the end was an appreciated touch (I wouldn't mind if she died with them just to be together with Jirou, but okay lol).
And yeah... Neo bothered me too. But how he explicitly blushed at being called "The Last Boss" was literally on-par with the hypothetical situation of the Naruto cast joking with Orochimaru or Kabuto about their human experiments and the Edo Tensei. Oh my God, that is priceless. XD
-
Next chapter: NEO kills and eats everything. The End.
-
Too easy. Heracles should accidentally sneeze and eviscerate Human World.
Anyways… Who wants to take bets on the final chapter having a timeskip where Toriko gets both a kid and a bad haircut?
-
I'm assuming the last chapter will explain what the fuck is up with that last gourmet demon.
The explanation is going to be asinine, but it absolutely needs to be addressed. -
this last chapter was so cheesy that I'm going to put it in my full course menu
-
this was better that Bleach. I cryed a little when Midora appeared. I think Midora should be the main character!

Midora is overrated.
Deal with it.
-
I pretty much stopped reading Torino since early into the Gourmet World, but I loved this chapter.
Did find it funny how all the flashbacks were based on the first half of the series like the Puffer Whale getting a callback. Really shows how much Shima care at first IMO.
-
"Meat from the GALALA GATOR, AND REGAL MAMMOTH, OMG I REMEMBER THOSE THINGS!
Also, like from some other elephant, but whatever"I jest. Good chapter. A buffet of all the food Komatsu and Toriko ever gathered together is pitch perfect for an ending; Shima knew better than trying to apply any emotion to the actual wedding itself. The back half of the series may have collapsed, I don't know who a ton of these people are, and the 4 kings got shafted big time, but its still a sweet little capper. It finally gave GOD as food bit more emphasis, and the vibe is just so thoroughly pleasantly Torkio, I can even roll with Neo getting Mister Buu'd

I was gonna comment, but you pretty much said it all.
I will choose to remember this chapter, and forget most of the last hundred or so.
-
I think before the final chapter I may actually reread Toriko, or at least the first part up to the Cooking Tournament. Parts of the chapter reminded me of those parts, but I don't remember everything like the fruit jello that was Toriko's first dish to become part of his full course. I do remember a good part of the Regal Mammoth stuff, especially them going into the mammoth. But yeah, the reminiscing part was pretty cool, and in the end at least it closed pretty strong, unlike a few other of the big series that ended in the last few years. Still can't get my mind off how this is ending,
-

The explanation is going to be asinine, but it absolutely needs to be addressed.I think they have already foreshadowed a few times that this is not the end of Toriko's adventure. Perhaps it will be left open incase the story can ever be continued.
-
i know that everyone was there but seeing Livebearer at the reception just made me giggle

I didn't know that Gran Torino was the protagonist of this manga. I really need to get my eyes checked.
!
lol But yeah, I definitely noticed how awkward it was for only everything up to the Billion Bird Egg getting flashbacks. I find it both funny and sad for Shima as an author since he definitely poured in so much raw passion into this series' surreal sci-fi action-mongering quirkiness at first. Although I guess you can kind of count Hex Food World citizens praising AIR being cooked.
Actually, speaking of the second half of the series and Acacia's Full Course… Where is PAIR? I understand that CENTER, NEWS, EARTH, and ATOM aren't included due to those ingredients not being collected by Toriko and Komatsu. But PAIR's retrieval was literally the climax of Komatsu's return from the Back Channel and is inherently connected to Bambina, who is easily one of the series' most major and beloved characters. So why was it not included? I doubt that a table or two turning into the opposite gender would have been that awkward or anything, especially with the Dodurian Stink Bomb being included.
-
LEGMAN.
He should be the main character of Shima's new series
-
Yeah, as an epilogue this just works. As infinitely corny as it was, the spirits dining together and Midora finally letting himself go emotionally got me a little.
Neo does NOT deserve to be in there, and the four kings deserved more focus instead of being mixed with near nobodies we have almost 0 attachment with; like, I forgot if Coco even got a panel?
Next week they'll probably be there, as are Terry and co (they BETTER be), but such an important moment deserved to have them a bit more in the spotlight, considering they were a big part of those adventures.
Still, very nice next to last chapter. Which, btw, I doubt will be topped by next week's, real last chapter, but oh well. . .
-
Shima shines on small burst of gourmet emotions.
-

He did. Without even showing his face.
!
Since both the pets and the Eight Kings (mainly Bambina) are nowhere to be seen this chapter, I expect them to be shown in the next one. Perhaps Terry, Quinn, and Kiss may even become the new kings of their respective species if it's a timeskip epilogue.
-
Didn't think I'd feel and cry with Komatsu -.- That's a first.
-
Good chapter.
The author found a nice way to make every dish a nice trip down memory lane such as having the fish dish accompany with the puffer whale. We even got some complementary dish to really bring the lightest moment back such as the surprise apple(they got it to 100 somehow)
The flashback and different reaction were full of good moments. The smelly fruit which I had to reread and was such an hilarious side trip(Zonge's reaction is a callback to it). The grin when eating the century soup(the frog's was great). We even have a nice moment with when Starjun regretting not getting to eat the regal mammoth. I think with the author meticulously erasing the other kings from the flashback and barely giving them focus, we can finally agree that they are just random side characters now and the important secondary characters are actually the three brothers.
On the list on invitee we have Pair, which I wasn't sure until him and Acacia shared a brief exchange, Neo which was weird but goes with the moral sense of the story and legman who I seriously can't remember from anywhere.
The 2 food that got focus were rightfully God as Toriko's full dish, and the billion bird which saved humanity. I was wondering why god did not make it last but I love that the dish they finished on was a meal that was so important to all humanity. And it transition nicely to the most most important table in the room.
And now for real emotional part, Midora's appearance. It was great. The gradual switch from his usual mighty self to reverting as how he was as a young boy was really well conveyed and you can feel how much he feels when he sees Frozhe again.
Yet I think the scene would have worked better with Midora alive. It made sense to kill him and have him reunite with Frozhe(and his brothers) in the spirit word but since he didn't find her before his Toriko's reception that point doesn't really matter. A Midora that reluctantly shows up at the end of the reception(because he doesn't like sharing meals) and is surprise to see all his dead family in spirit form is also here and then broke down would simply be superb.
I would also have like Setsuno to be at that table with maybe Rin wondering while she is sitting alone, only for Toriko to reveal that she actually is not. It can even be combine with the scenario I propose in the previous paragraph with Midora wondering at first why the old hag is sitting by herself before realizing his family is actually there to.
Despite my criticism It was really a powerful ending especially with Midora's feeling for Frozhe having had the focus needed to make the moment a really nice and heartwarming payoff.
Overall it was a really great chapter of Toriko, that really showed why so many loved that series and deserved to be remember as a truly good time.
-
Nice ending to the series. All the food and memories. Makes me wish to reread the series, especially the earlier parts which really were great. Can't believe that yet another manga that I've read from the beginning has come to an end. Makes me feel a bit old, haha.
As of now, I don't really care for another chapter. This is a nice enough ending as it is. -
I will miss this manga, dammit!

Betting it will be Toriko and Komatsu's kid.

Toriko takes on Bambina and Zonge's kid as his disciple. Thus having his character journey arrive full circle to parallel both his foster father, Ichiryuu, and his biological father, Acacia.
-
and legman who I seriously can't remember from anywhere.
He was in a combo with a cook named Wheels.

Wasn't Legman and Wheels something Roger and Steve came up with on American Dad?

Toriko III: Toriko and Legman and the case of Acacia's Full Course
-
This chapter felt like the mangaka wanted us to remember how epic the manga used to be.
-
Seriosuly though, can someone explain to me what Leg Man is suppose to be?
-
Legman is love.
Speaking on how shima is self aware, one of the sashimi around the big fish dish was Another. Lol.
-
Did Alfaro ever die? I never liked him.
-
What about Cedre? Boogie Woods? Limon?

How could you diss our boy, Alfaro, like that?
!
He's right next to Starjun.

What happened to the food mafia guys?

Monday's chapter will be Toriko's last, so I figured it is time to pick it up back again. Dropped it after the terrible Cooking Fest, planning to catch up by reading volumes instead of weekly chapters. Well, that never happened. What happened is that this weekend I have reread the manga from the beginning.
To be fair, Toriko was never a favorite of mine. Even in its best days, people claiming it to be the highlight of their week always made me raise an eyebrow. Story, characters, drama, this manga was lacking in all of these aspects. But it had plenty of well-done hot-blooded shonen action and harsh environment survival to keep my attention until a point.
Toriko is the very definition of story that did not live up to its full potential. It peaks pretty early, plateaus for a good while, and then freefalls until the very end. Good introduction arcs, and great early big arcs, especially Regal Mammoth (which had better main cast focus than Ice Hell which had better villain focus), make a lasting good impression. It carries on over the multiple short arcs between Ice Hell and the Four Beast which show off the cast (Melk Stardust and Gourmet Casino arcs were the best parts) and the world and build up for the future. At the same time, this is where the most mistakes of this manga become apparent, especially the slowly creeping shadow of Neo. Then comes the Cooking Fest, the arc from which Toriko never manages to recover. Few good fights and the Disciple flashback simply can not hide how lazy and throw away this supposed climax is. For a cheap twist, Toriko sacrificed not only the Bishokukai, the main antagonist, but basically its very future. Gourmet World arcs try to return the feeling of adventure and exploration, but it is a futile attempt. Even glorious Bambina is powerless to hide the mess it has become. It is mindboggling how a year long boss rush is the dullest thing this manga had to offer in all its 400 chapters.
It could have been a different, better manga if Shimabu didn’t get bored of his own creation every so often. He is similar to Togashi in this, but unlike the latter he can’t neither bullshit nor bluff. Or maybe it was for the best - after all, Toriko was best at its most honest and straightforward.
-
To be fair, I don't think he got bored. I think the ratings / volume sells were low or something, so they pretty much effectively axed it around Cooking Fest arc.

^Pretty much that.
Also, I don't know why people bitch so much about Cooking Fest. It wasn't Marineford Good, but it wasn't Dressrosa Bad either.

Cooking fest where cooking got skipped over almost entirely?
