The part with matador is something I first read in your previous post. Just because his look is inspired by a matador, doesn't mean he has never fought a fresh opponent. Likewise, just because the tournament we saw was set in one way, doesn't mean every fight was the same. I and anyone else were fully entitled to expect Diamante to be a threatening combatant.

About the anime, even if I wasn't sure that any filler they add to that fight is going to be shitty, I could hardly care less what they do with it. Manga and anime are separate mediums and I don't want to read a manga expecting a bad animation team is going to fill in the blanks not shown on panels. Last time I was excited to see what they did, CC caught Grizzly Magnum and stopped it.

The tournament and their fighters aside, all of the gladiators shown in this arc were clearly wounded and a number of them had lost limbs fighting against the Doflamingo pirates. To add to that they also mentioned and shown how they had extremely crappy armor and weapons to even have a fair fight against Diamante and his officers. Even Rebecca is shown to be at a clear disadvantage with a extremely dull sword and basically no armor (Anyone who thinks that Rebecca would willfully wear that Red Sonja get-up in a life or death battle in the Diamante-ran Coliseum is crazy, especially with what we know about her now) and that if she hadn't been trained by her father and know some form of Mantra/Kenbunshoku Haki to protect herself she would have more than likely been killed long ago.

So there has definitely been a lot of evidence to show that the "matador" label Diamante and his men have been given by us on this forum is not just for the hell of it. Hell, Diamante lures his opponents to attack with a red cape. What more do you need to point that out?

The fight itself was decent, but I'm still not sure why Kyros had to be RIGHT in his overprotectiveness. I feel that in any other story the parent character would be okay with their child surpassing them.

This is not the story of a child wanting to surpass her father. It's about a father and daughter trying to reunite together after evil separated them.
Kyros has always been very protective. They are fighting against the guy who murdered his wife. He's not going to let her fight him.
It will be out of character for him to let her fight him.

This. People still can't get it in their heads that this arc is Law's is Kyros' story, not Rebecca's.

Because the point was not about child surpassing the father, but rather the child not following on the father's footsteps.

In general Women are physically weaker and in need of men protection call that what you want but thats how it is generally speaking
When you are a freaking hero of the colos. an epic fighter blah blah, of course you gonna protect your childreen and make sure they dont need to fight when they have such a "badass as a father"

And here is where I think people see it all wrong. Under point 2. It has jack to do with her being a girl and a whole lot to do with him being a fighter who may not be good with words. emotions and all that stuff, but if anything he can fight and what kind of father he is then if he cant make sure to use those skills and protect people he cares about and yes them not having to fight because he is strong enough is exactly that

Now that said, for me that does not mean Rebecca is not an annoying and not well written character and the plot surrounding her isnt well done. I personally agree on that completely. You can like some parts of the story and dislike others. Dressrosa for me is not a well written arc from Rebbeca, to the Princcess with her healing fruit and Doflamingos clones and what not…
But it would be weird if I liked everything Oda touches and should be similar for every single person reading this manga

Yeah that's crap. Just because women are, in very broad, general terms, weaker than med does NOT mean they need more protection.

And remember we are talking about a woman who is a freaking gladiatrice here… and her father a hero of the COLOS. and bad guys have taken over the country and will kill her on spot if they feel like it. So YES by his opinion she needs protection and YES HE is the one to provide it as soon as able and UNTIL he is able...

If you fail to see logic here well then you are just standing on the other river bank. Nothing wrong with that, I am fine with you having a different view

Also in my opinion the sheer fact that we are spending ages discussing this Rebbeca thing after this chapter shows that there is something wrong with how her character was portrayed, this chapter written and so on...

I actually agree with that, and I think that "wrong thing" is the fact that, at the beginning of the arc, SHE wanted to protect HIM, which was just dropped. Like I said, I think Oda changed his mind about her at some point.

Keep in mind that this was before she knew that the Toy Soldier was this legendary, badass figure that the gladiators looked up to.

Something positive for a change, can we talk about how awesome the Princess Vivi is? When she sets out to do something, she really gets it done. Though she didn't fight and Luffy fought the main villain, she actively try to stop the war in her country. I know people seem to think she's useless. But I think she was pretty great.
Seriously, she infiltrated a criminal organisation to discover who is stirring trouble in her country at age 14!

Chapter 777: Zoro Vs Pica or The Rock Assimilation man

-Cover page the Sea god apologise to the sea monsters
-Kyros and Diamante fight concludes- my take Diamante does a cheap shot and gets taken out by Robin or Kyros

Scene changes to DD and Trebol, DD gets a report that the princess is free and along with Franky and the other Dwarves they are aiming to destroy the factory.
The sudden report stops DD from Pulling the trigger, law escapes with is harm( hiding at least and nope DD don't have observation haki)
-DD sends Trebol to stop the Dwarves and capture the princess, Trebol is off (during this time we get a glimpse of Bellamy and Luffy)
-Scene changes to Viola who is sweating, she spreads the news that Trebol is heading to the factory ken and con decide to cut him off(wishful thinking)
-Scene switches to Zoro Vs Pika ( creative use of devil fruits, sword slashes, badass one liners and smugness lol) Zoro does a new attack slices Pica and his stone statue to shreds( well you know how this ends stone gets destroyed and pica body survives get over it this is One Piece and i am not been sarcastic
-Zoro, Pica fights concludes
chapter ends with Luffy getting rid of time waster bellamy and shouting "Mingo!!!!" rage face

They forgot he is a doctor and has Ope Ope fruit and also some forgot that he removed few bullets in 2 seconds so he most likely is capable of completely stopping bleeding in few seconds that Doflamingo took to set Bellamy free.

Since Punk Hazard Oda implemented into story more kids than ever before and motiv of rescuing/ protecting them. We will still have Momo in the story for some time even after Becca is out of it for long.
Many readers of One Piece already are in age and have families, at least little kids.. Rebecca and Kyros plotline is far more touching for somebody who has family imo.

Depends on expectations - whole Dressrosa is also in a way build up for fight with Yonko so it will pay up but as always we have to wait years for best parts so patience and you still didnt even seen how Zou or Wano looks like so hold up with expecting dissapointment.
I guess that Oda will speed up the pace a bit after learning his lesson on starting Dressrosa - arc so big that he has problems finishing it up before readers started to feel bit tired of one island for 2 years.

In this chapter alone she was willing to run out into Diamante's caltrop rain to protect her father.

If all she did was willingly allow herself to be protected, then yes, that would be quite poor.

Her desires in that regard however are not appreciated. If anything, she is put down any time she tries something like that, be it by Robin and by her father.

And in the end, all she is willingly allow herself to be protected. There is a small conflict in her in that regard, true, but that is the conclusion we reach. She drops her sword, to almost certainly never pick it up again.

Because she understood that her clean hands are her mother's only legacy in this world.
She might be dead, but the person that prevents Rebecca from fighting right now is Scarlett, not Kyros. Kyros could have been replaced by Riku or Viola with the same speech about Scarlett. Of course they wouldn't have a chance against Diamante.
Kyros protects Rebecca.
And Rebecca protects her mother's wish. It's not as easy as it seems. I remember someone saying that avoiding a fight requires courage sometimes.

Yeah, she can protect him from hunger by making him sandwiches. And she can protect him from cold by knitting warm clothes. And she can protect him from possible injuries by keeping the house in order.

I can understand that you don't like the current situation. But do you really imagine her betraying her mother's ideal after all this years. Is Diamante really worth it ? (don't tell him I said that)
