He's being dumb here. He's confronting a villain by himself that he knows very little about. But that's part of the problem of having this encounter in the first place. There's very little that may actually happen from this. Gentle could still be all "Oh I'm not who you think I am?" And back off. And then not show up. Deku asking him not to show up and then still hoping a villain will keep his word and never telling anyone cause he wants the festival to continue is still problematic. It'll mean he knew the guy was lurking and let him go. And the festival could still get invaded and the school still looks bad.

The intention is to make sure he does not get into UA to begin with. Gentle already told La Brava to turn on the camera so he's not backing down here. What's the point of playing dumb when there's an immediate threat sitting right in front of you?

I'm saying Deku should have played dumb instead of questioning them further before it got to that point. But my main issue is that because Deku wants the show to go on he's not doing what he actually should be doing. Which is not engaging and notifying school staff.

Which will end the festival which is what he doesn't want to happen. Did you just miss chapter 173?

He did something stupid, and no one is arguing that trying to face down a duo of villains is not smart, so why are you all fixated on it?

He's a emergency rescuer/combat specialist/anti terrorist in training, high after a test drive of his new toy and beating down a full metal alchemist villain and the low down of getting through the weirdness that is a chese message in the middle of the night by just talking, he's high on his success. Yeah, he lost Nighteye and Mirio's powers, and the League reaped the rewards of the raid, but he wasn't there to stop that.

Nobody is missing that. I'm pointing out that this encounter doesn't really work. Like someone mentioned before it would have worked better if Gentle was already inside before he met Deku. It's wonky. Because it's just a school function, but Deku is treating it with the highest priority. Which is logically not the thing he should be focused on.

Say Deku accomplishes getting Gentle to postpone. Then what? Will he then later confess he met the villain and convinced him to leave UA alone? The school has been already Dumbledore levels of lenient with Deku because stuff happens to work out. It starts to set a bad pattern if he's only just grounded again. All Might and Aizawa can't always bail him out or ignore this.

Even if he manages to subdue Gentle and Brava, and gives them to the police, the festival going on would be irresponsable for the authorities, as he has no way of knowing that they don't have any preparations already set to disturb the school or are working with other people to fuck things up. The audience is conditioned to give him a free pass for it as we know that Gentle isn't a serious threath in terms of permanent damage, but Deku has no way of being certain of that.

If this is Gentle's big confrontation this arc, then he should get to show up later. But I don't think so, his plan has yet to be revealed, and we literally know nothing about his wake up call to the society or how it'll work.

What Deku should do is grow the fuck up. Instead of threatening Gentle, he should have acted casually and then ran straight to a side alley to call the police. Because being a Hero is about sacrificing your selfish pleasures for the sake of the Greater Good. The same applies for Jiro who is also a Hero in training. If Jiro couldn't understand that public safety is more important than her stupid rock concert, she shouldn't be a Hero in the first place.

I'm willing to give some degree of leeway if Deku gets scolded for his selfishness by Jiro and All Might but even considering that, this was some monumental level of buffoonery on his part. At this point in the story, I don't expect Deku to be making such stupid decisions.

I am not really mad at Deku. Gentle isn't an unknown and he has a clear MO that doesn't indicate he would a big threat to civilians and his mostly a high level prankster. So being a kid, his investment in helping Eri overcome her terifc experiences and base on Gentle MO I can understand the decision.

I might be more harsh with an adult but in Deku's case I think it is a understandable decision.

I think it is much more about Eri getting a good day after traumatic experiences than it is about Jiro. So foolish maybe but not selfish.

There's no real good solution to any of this other than the kids maybe finishing the day without an incident. Little girl learning how to smile or whatever. General ED and other class divisions getting a nice day.

But then what's the point of having Gentle introduced all that planning and then nothing at all?

Normally I've enjoyed where Horikoshi takes us by the end of an arc, minus the Mafia one. So I'm hoping for the best but I can't see a benefit in Deku meeting the villain now. He also doesn't have much time before he needs to get back to the school. Starting a fight now seems risky.

Deku made the same mistake as back with Overhaul. He has no sense of subtlety with wanting to do good. It can be a admirable quality, but also a flaw.

That's another lesson he has to learn. Which is really cool. He doesn't quite have the perspective of an adult yet.

I'm super anxious about how this will go.
I love these guys and I want them to stick around for a long time.
I was looking forward to seeing all the shenanigans they'd pull out during the festivities.

Throwing them in Deku's face so soon has me scratching my head with worry.
I'm hoping the reason for this story direction becomes clear very soon.

The gently rebound page was fun, Gentle´s power is simple but cool. Not a very exciting chapter, but not bad, maybe it is because I was expecting a more silly thing.

Interesting transition chapter. I'm rooting for Midoriya. Poor kid just wants everything to go well for everyone at UA for once. Gentle just wants to be famous, and is trying to sacrifice all of their peace of minds and joy to do it.

Well that color spread was nice. And I would not expect Gentle's quirk to work on air, it's basically gomu gomu awakening.
And hey Deku did't break himself this time and is interacting with his classmates thats real progress.

Can't figure out if La Brava's the one generating that aura on her hand in the color spread or its Deku's "power". Eri almost smiled, progress. I like Gentle not trying to hurt Deku more than he has to. At this point I hope Deku doesn't win the actual fight. He can convince Gentle to leave, but I want Gentle to be above his pay grade.

I liked Deku's new gadjet, seems pretty functional and it will add a bit of flavor to his suit.

Also, the way I'm seeing things right now, I'mma bet Gentle will be able to escape Deku for now and infiltrate UA leaving our hero, and quite possibly his friends, to deal with the menace and put on a show at the same time.

I'm gonna be honest…I hated Narufest.

It could've worked on its own as a 2-3 chapter arc, but juxtaposing it against Knuck vs. Hachisuka (why? there was no interesting parallel symbolism) for as long as they did... Every time, all I wanted to see was daddy taking down the bee, and the concert felt like an annoying interruption.

Like everything, it'll probably be better in volume form. Biweekly doesn't do content like this any favors.
