My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist
-
-
I figured the general ed class was still like in case someone wanted to go a real university, it would boost their reputation if there cool was great for heroes but also for people who just wanted to become the movers and shakers of industry and other non-hero related occupations
-
General Ed seems very much like the main source of income for UA. Heroes might be what they're known for but all those robots and fake towns are hella expensive. General Ed brings in paying students who want a good education, a presitigious school, and the opportunity to move into one of the more exciting vocational-focused departments.
That's assuming UA is a private school. If it's public, General Ed is probably a government-required and their funding comes mostly from alumni donations.

The thing that caught my attention the most is the "Special abilities liberation army". What the hell is a Special Ability? A quirck? Why would they need a liberation army?
Also, Gentle used some kind of bouncing ability on the ground to bounce himself and La Brava to the top of the skyscrapper on page 7.

Could his quirk be the ability to change the density of matter? The roof on the convenience store was floppy too.

I interpreted it almost as a way of describing Quirks before they came up with the term "Quirk." Because less of the population had them in the old days, so all these systems/terminology weren't in place.
…Not allowed to reveal what I actually wrote it as just yet but it sure as hell wasn't "special abilities" I tell you hwhat
The "liberation army" is, I assume, a guerrilla resistance group formed to fight for the rights of Quirk-having people in a society that shuns them (a la Magneto) and/or a literal liberation army that took violent action against governments around the world to literally free imprisoned Quirk-havers.
-
Yeah, Destro seems a lot like an MHA Magneto. I wouldn't be surprised if Magneto even influenced Horikoshi calling him that.
-
So we have a new Robin Hood-type villain. That was due to show up eventually.
-
Nah, he's only fighting crimes against pudding. I'd say its more of a Lupin, or Lupan however he's called.
-
I love how accurate the depiction of social media/the current media in general is in MHA.

I wonder, will Gentleman taser a dead rat in his next video?
-
At least hopefully not show a dead body? But hey do that and everyone will be talking about you.
-
I wonder, will Gentleman taser a dead rat in his next video?
As Gentle said in this chapter, actively malicious villainy is not his style. Instead, he'll video tape Nighteye's corpse in the morgue and upload it live for his younger audiences to watch.
The video will be monetized, of course.
-
Can't wait until Gentle gets taken down by every YouTube villain's biggest archenemy Content Cop.
Or demonetization.
-
If things don't work out he could always create a video game channel with Gowasu.
! "Hey, I'm God."
"I'm not so God."
"And, we're the God Grumps." -

That makes a lot of sense. I always forget that the Quirk phenomenom is kind of a recent thing. Aso, I'm intrigued.

2 minutes outro with some annoying electronic music to reach that sweet 10:00 mark.
-
Hey-yo Gentle-gang WHATSPOPPIN?? Tazers a rat and videotapes suicide victims for views
-
Hey gentle is not a scumbag, that sounds almost a cartoon level of villainly
! He'd be more like a cheerier idubbbz anyways, content coppin'
-
Come on people, he's just a villain matpat, it's just a theory tho.
-
Gentle of Akkad, rambling on about the Social Justice Heroes are obnoxious and the Femivillains need to be stopped.
-
Maybe he just makes unboxing videos of pudding brands.
-
In the end, I think he'll find success in his All Might and Elsa videos.

Bones, a company in-universe will mark it for copyright
-
Destro Insignia: I made out the first line to be "One of"
-
Interesting!
And I think the second line is "them," so we get "one of them."
Sounds reasonable. -
So yeah, I think now is when we can all make it official, that this arc is the best thing ever.
Gentle and La Brava seem to be shaping up to be like the Isaac and Miria of the MHA world. Also, they are fantastic and I love them. Now that Jiro's in the spotlight, I've also found myself really liking her as well. I hope things turn out okay for her.
I said it in my last post here. I'll say it again. Stuff like this is what the manga world has been seriously lacking as of late.
-
Just saw this one Facebook.
MY HERO ACADEMIA|KOHEI HORIKOSHI
I'm a little late in saying this, but this arc is likely to be the most schoolish in the series. Enjoy! This makes me happy lol.

I wonder if this is "in the series so far" or "in the series as a whole (including what's yet to come)." I really hope it's not the latter, I don't want to leave the school setting any time soon.
That said, time-skip ala Naruto (but done right) has potential to be incredibly awesome.

I would like to see them go through each year and then after graduation. I mean…It's mostly about the school life? There's a lot of years of plots that could be addressed during school and then a time skip with them as sidekicks or pros.

I don't see why he would spoil that in the scope of the entire series. Or how he could expect himself to stay true to such a statement so early in the series when things can always change. And I doubt he's meticulously planned every arc and character in the series yet, even if he has a loose idea of a game plan and ending in mind.
So yeah, I think he only means thus far.

I sometimes question if Horikoshi can really cover three full years of My Hero Academia with new content given how long the first year has already been going. He's already recycled a couple ideas given how similar the premise behind the Field Training and Internship arcs were (not that I'm saying the arcs were similar at all, I'm speaking in terms of school activities). I can honestly see there being a timeskip during the second year. Maybe we can get a second Sports Festival arc to show how far the characters have come and new dynamics based on Class 1-A becoming upperclassman, but I don't know if Horikoshi can do that thrice.
That said, I'm always open for being proven wrong.
-

That sounds awesome, I definitely love this idea.
You know what's beneficial about doing it twice?
The events are always different each year, thanks to the randomisation process.
So it would be super easy to give the students fresh challenges. -

So it would be super easy to give the students fresh challenges.I totally agree. But when I said twice, I mean going to the Sports Festival two more times. I should have said thrice, I'll edit that in now lol. I can definitely see a second visit. But a third visit on top of the other times? Feels redundant. Which feeds into my three whole school years skepticism.
-
Honestly, I don't know that even a single revisit of the Sports Festival would really add that much. Sure we'd get to see 1-A beating down on the rest of the school but that's more or less what happened the first time. Without any new characters to introduce, there's not really that much that couldn't be accomplished just as easily in normal training against each other.

Totally out there theory, and I don’t know if this has been brought up already, but in light of the latest chapters I’ve been wondering if Aoyama has been getting screentime lately not because he’s the “traitor” or a red herring, but
! …because Gentle is totally Aoyama’s Dad. He’s Aoyama’s dad right?
! I mean, the completely over-the-top mannerisms, the desire to be the center of attention, the appearance and “gentlemanly” attire... quirks that bend / distort something...
! He’s totally Aoyama’s dad, right???
! Tell me I’m crazy.
Viewed independently, in a weekly chapter format, Aoyama’s behavior would of course cause us to flash back to the unresolved issue of UA’s traitor, but as part of the arc storyline, perhaps we leapt too quickly to conclusions? -

Also explains that bizarre use of "anglaise" (no other sprinklings of French words so far; not wanting it to be too obvious?).
Also also we saw a glimpse of Aoyama's home life (when everyone was watching TV during AM vs AFO) but only his mother was shown (she looks just like Yuga).Makes you wonder if U.A. does background checks on applicants, though. Criminal father would be a big red flag to gloss over, unless Yuga just wrote "Never knew my father" on the application (that's what I do, personally).
-
I've always expected this series to tackle supervillain parents eventually, so now might be as good a time as ever. Although I didn't think it might be with such two humorous characters lol.
But this would make Aoyama's recent focus make a lot more sense in the grand scheme of the plot. I'm all for this.
-
If we get sports festival 2.0, it should either include the other school (shiketsu was it?), be open to international schools (so we get some american/european heroes), or have a league of villains attack take place midway, shifting into another arc (again, like what Naruto did with Orochimaru posing as the Kazekage during the tournament)
-
I can picture that too.
Triwizard Tournament style, with visiting schools Shiketsu and Ketsubutsu. Forcing 1-A and 1-B (2-A/B at that point) to work together against rivals from the other schools. That would provide a bigger spectacle and go a long way towards keeping the sports festival thing from getting stale. The "joint training exercises" mentioned by Shishikura could be early foreshadowing.
Nezu: "Deku, did you put your name in the goblet of heroes!?"
Wait. Are they going to mix up classes A and B in years 2 and 3??? That could either be a boon or a nightmare for the marketing/merchandising people.
-

Are you talking IRL or for the business marketing department in UA
Also, What's the standard in japanese school, they don't shift classes every year, do they?
-
I meant irl! The people making the branded posters and pencils and notebooks and keychains. Like, if they suddenly "have to" abandon half of the protags and focus on half of The Class Formerly Known As 1-B. That could be enough of an external deterrent to keep A intact for the whole run.
…I'm ashamed to admit I don't actually know about Japanese high schools. They definitely swip swop class rosters in middle school, though, to keep things fresh from year to year.
-

Pony said they would have joint classes together.
Don't see them mixing up considering they're a boarding school and every class has its own dorms where they have already settled in.

I mean we do seem to already have heroes that like to spice up dialogue with English and whatnot. But he does seem related.
I thought he looked a lot like Present Mic.
-
Let's increment the theory, I say that if Gentle is Aoyama's father, he got his son the belt from none other than Giran.

Speaking of sports festival 1.0 wasnt what we saw only the preliminary for a larger tournament idk if it was the anime or bad scans but I thought the whole thing was just for having agrander one follow that. Idnt horikoshi tease it as a first stage and just forget about the 2nd part. Or am I mistaken?

Nope. Faulty translation. Inter-grade tourney was never a thing.

Ahhhh I just checked the wiki and it mentioned each group went against each other (as in their own grade) so that what was probably flubbed up.

Considering how incredibly strong Mirio was, having the senior champion fight the other two seems pretty pointless in retrospect.

I could see it as an exhibition thing, but not as an actual contest
