My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist

! While it would have been cool to see all the fights, the tournament is a 16 battle monstruosity, and it's just the 3rd stage of the competition, there's more after it. So I agree with the need to rush through the first 8 battles.
-
! So Momo lost in her first match. I know some people who will be really disappointed with that development. They wanted to see her reach half-final or even the final. I worry that no girl reaches half-final just like in Souma. I hope Vinehair girl from class B can get that far at least.

This post is deleted!
-
! How affected do you think Fumi's shadow monster is by physical attacks? Mina might have a chance if she barfs acid on it.
! I think Plant'll win against Iida. She can lock his joints, and he implied he won't go all-out on her because "MUH CHIVALRY". -
So she actually have a costume and not bare boobs? It never occured to me…
-
Oh oh Bakugou has brough his A-game face, this could end up as the Lee vs Gaara of the series or its gonna be a very long curbstomp in Bakugous favor.
I dont really see him losing.
TetsuTetsu vs Kirishima shouldve been a draw, then Bakugou vs Ochako winner gets a bye round imo.
-
Make him weightless and he'll blow himself away from the arena with his explosions.
-
Despite the match-ups being rushed, they were still really fun; also, none of the "won't hit a girl" crap. I really like that Ochako wants to get stronger herself, but also the fact that she's also scared.
I feel like I say it every week, but two thumbs up for the character writing.I'm actually really excited for Ochako vs. Bakugou. I wouldn't mind if either won/lost.
-
TBH I actually liked Ochako in this chapter, despite about to have to face a tough opponent she still plans to face him to show crowd what she is made of.
Fumikage was smart in ending his fight with Momo quickly before she used her quirk. Im so glad he has a fair chance in reaching the semifinals and probably facing Bakugou.
-
Good chapter. I expected most of those match to be short so I'm not really surprised about what happened.
The only result I got wrong is Yaoyozoru vs Tokoyami. I didn't expect that match up to be that one sided. Damn, he's such a beast. I'm looking forward to a match between him and Bakugou in the semifinals.
I stand by the rest of my prediction: Bakugou winning the finals against Deku. That's only if the tournament isn't interrupted… -
Who cares?
Tokoyami my boy won. -
I kind of dont mind them being fast at all. Im only looking at the big matchups between the more relevant characters and then still it was nice what we got
-
Confirmed 2nd Round matchups are:
Deku vs Todoroki
Shiozaki vs Iida
Ashido vs FumikageOne clear semifinal is Deku vs Iida, Hatsume made him look like a complete fool unless Mangaka wants to make him the Kiba of the series.
Iida speed might too fast for Shiozaki vines to trap him.
-
I'll support Ochako, it's all up to her triumph card.
-
It would be a pretty interesting twist to have Ochako win, actually. Bakugou vs Midoriya is assumed because Bakugou's the rival character.
-
I really want Bakugo to win this, but Uraraka is making it extremely hard.
-
-
I have a hunch Bakugou vs Fumikage might happen.
Bakugou beats Ochako to death, then after the match is over, Deku gets mad at Bakugou and when it looks like he is about to punch him, Fumikage steps in and tells him to not do it, that he will be the one that avenges Ochako in the semifinals.
-
That would be a disservice to everyone involved, it's not like Bakugou is doing it because of malice or anything. Besides is worthless, because if Baku beats her, he's going to go to the finals.
I seriously doubt that the tournament will go beyond Deku vs Shouto, the way that every other matchup was presented and handled screams of "this won't be concluded"
-
He might do it in order to prove he wants to be the number hero and the strongest guy among class A.
Im also expecting the return of Facepalm-kun, it might happen during the finals.
-

Bakugou can't do that though. He might seem evil but he does have a shred of morality that prevents him from actually killing someone, however threatening he may sound.
And even if he does want to kill her, Yuuei would probably expel him for that, and the tournament suspended. It'd leave a black mark on his prospects as a hero, something he doesn't seem keen on.
And even before that, Cementoss is waiting by the side to stop the match in case anything shitty happens.
This ain't a ninja academy. Killing is very much frowned upon. -
-
Urakara is in for a serious beating but I dont think Bakugou would kill her in a tournament. He is hotheaded but not daft enough to not know the consequences of that.
-
what i see in the tournament line up is that is ever deku wins straight ahead he will have to fight his 3 greatest rivals in the classroom todoroki iida and bakugo but i certainly can see deku losing to todoroki…
-
Hopefully Uraraka loses by ring out and not complete annihilation. I think matching up Deku and Bakugo again so soon would be bad storytelling, 0% chance it happens
-
I sincerely think she'll lose but without proving herself as worth opponent
-
I loved Gadget girl's fight, I'm really glad that she has a normal quirk and not something that just helps her build all her gadgets easily. This way she's a natural gear head and saleswoman.
I'm really excited to see the Urakara's match. Maybe she'll try and lift the entire ring and tip Baku out of it.
-
Baku can pretty much fly. Not sure how she can beat him.
-
i think she will put a good show and force some respect from Explo-boy.
I fully expect Ice and Fire to win. Wether it is losing now or using his fire side would only confort his father convictions. He already had his moment of weakness by trying to use his fire and the previous game and his father just told him he wouldn't be able to go to far without it. That match is a too great occasion to prove him wrong.
Gadget girl was fun.

Just read the whole series today after forgetting about it for so long.
Mhmm, I like the series. I feel like it's still in its fun training stage so I'm looking forward to some intense drama in the future when Deku masters the ability better.
About this week's - Ochako: she can control gravity right? She hasn't done this yet, but maybe she'll make him super heavy?
-

As far as we know she does not control gravity but make stuff weightless.
-

If we go by what's been shown in the UA Profile, she can only make things weightless (achieved by touching that object with all 5 of her finger pads). She can't actually control gravity the way Fujitora can.
-
Well it has been said before that quirk abilities are always evolving so maybe she will be able to make things incredibly heavy in the future
-
I feel weird for not doubting for a second that Ochako can win like most people.
-
I feel weird for not doubting for a second that Ochako can win like most people.
Can win? I don't doubt. Will win? that's more up in the air, with the bias skewed toward Bakugo, IMO.
Uraraka's determined to give her all, and Midoriya (a fairly reliable source for this kind of thing) was able to work out a strategy Uraraka could use to win. So there's no doubt there's a way. Whether Uraraka actually will win or not will largely depend on how the author wants to develop her and Bakugo.
A big thing with Bakugo was his entering UA thinking he was all that, the bag of chips, and the change from the vending machine then being shown he was one of many, also talented people. He's been defeated or humbled a few times already and, while he's still his boisterous, hotheaded self, that lesson has had an effect. We've also seen he will not quit or stop. I don't think one person thinks he'll hold back against Uraraka for a moment. Doing well in this tournament or, possibly, even defeating Uraraka with tactics over brute force, would be more of a way for that development to sink in.
Uraraka, her main goal is to secure her family's future. Laudible, and one she pursues with all the gusto a shonen protagonist should, but not to the same level Bakugo does. This fight could awaken it in her, which could give her the determination to beat even Bakugo's. Losing may also have the potential to make her feel like her dream's impossible, putting her in a dramatic spot.
While I think this fight really could go either way, my own, personal prediction is Bakugo will win the fight, but Uraraka's performance will be more than good enough to win over prospective sidekick hunters, like we've seen happening already. In a way, that would allow both sides to get what they're after and further both goals without feeling too cheated.
-
Fumikage vs Bakugou can be an awesome fight.
-
I somehow doubt this tournament will even get to Deku's fight, some form of interuption. But if it continues I hope it's Deku vs Iida and Fumikage vs Bakugou for the next rounds. Will be pretty interesting fights.
-
I think we'll at least get most of the way through the Deku fight before it gets interrupted. That fight is too important to not get shown.
-
I imagine there'll be some scenario where Deku finds a way around Todoroki's freezing ability, Todoroki could win if he finally unleashes his flame ability, but will still refuse to use it.
-
That raises an interesting thought. In an open field with no equipment or items to make use of, how is Deku supposed to counter Todoroki's ice?
There doesn't appear to be any limit to Todoroki's ice, so the only way he could go against it would be by evading. -
If he can concentrate it well enough, he should be able to use one for all to shatter x amount of ice, even with a slight movement.
At least I think that should be the case.
-

At least I think that should be the case.
But we've seen Todoroki create an overwhelming, practically infinite amount of ice. Deku on the other hand has a limited amount of fingers.
Maybe, Deku will think of some way to use Todoroki's own ice against him? -
Would be really stupid if villains evaded
-
Would be really stupid if villains evaded
I think villains running amok in the city or something, calling attention to the heroes would be better if the mangak decides to interrupt the games….
-
Although it happens pretty often in these tournament-type arcs, usually when there's going to be some kind of interruption it's foreshadowed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only foreshadowing we have here is a vague line from the end of the last arc about "things to come". Who even knows if that has anything to do with this arc.
Basically I think it's quite likely the tournament reaches a conclusion at this point. Mostly because it would be a really, really terrible idea for the villains to attack when so many professional heroes are around.
I do think something ominous could happen with All For One though.
-
I don't think the tournament will get interrupted, IMO it's too soon after the last "interruption by villains" arc to already jump back in to that, and this tournament is an opportunity for the story to explore other quirks and characters outside of the classroom and battle-villains scenery. I do agree that something could pull some of the heroes out of the stadium to go deal some justice, which may or may not include All Might, which could possibly be the beginning of his end.
As for the tournament, I really don't know what to expect from Deku vs Todoroki. There's a huge difference in power and ability, and there's nothing circumstantial here to assist Deku, so unless he starts controlling the power to give him a speed and strength boost, I see no hope for him. Even if he does, the only way I see him winning is by a forfeit from Todoroki because he was forced again to use his flames.
I figure it makes more sense to explore Deku's analytics side more while he watches and geeks over other quirks, allowing the story to focus a bit on Bakugou and Todoroki. (Obviously I expect those two to be the finalists). More likely, I think, Deku will make a good showcase of power against the perceived #1 up-and-coming to make him stand out, put on a smile or something All Might-style to draw parallels from the crowd, but ultimately lose due to lack of experience, physique, and control. Then again, I expect to be wrong on all accounts.
I wonder though… has there been any comment on how many will move forward to the main tournament? It would seem strange to only have one person move forward. I've sort of been working on the assumption that the top four or something would move forward and with the winners getting some sort of reward or opportunity for up-coming events. In such a case it could be possible– though admittedly it's a reach-- for Deku to get a chance to sub-in for someone else moving forward. There's a precedent, after all. Ehh, far too many if's and maybe's.
While I'm at it...

BakugouI'd like Bakugou to win for the upset, but assuming there are no interruptions I think Todoroki will win. The rival for both Bakugou and Deku to surpass.[/hide][/hide][/hide]

I'm honestly doubting that Ida can beat Shiozaki.
Because Izuku's note-taking murmuring essentially amounts to voice-of-god in this series, and he explicitly said that beating a "binding attack" user requires ridiculous brute strength (because all the tendrils simply can't be dodged), which isn't exactly Ida's forte.
At the same time, though, we really do need something impressive from Ida besides his cavalry battle thing, given his "I challenge you" declaration and essential lack of any good beat-downs in the series so far, at all. Has he ever punched/kicked anyone…?
I'm positive that Izuku won't beat Todoroki, though. If only because, story-wise, it's really too soon since the battle training for another Izuku vs. Bakugo, and it's a good bet that Izuku wouldn't lose to anyone else before Bakugo.
