For the people saying Doflamingo is underestimating the Strawhats, what would you do differently in his position? Given what he does and does not know, the only way in which he's actually underestimating them is in his gloating to Riku. As far as his actions go, I think he's being fairly cautious. He's doing everything in his power to get Fujitora on his side and he's ensured that the Strawhats are split up and that Luffy is distracted.

Sure he seems confident in his crew's abilities, but then why wouldn't he be? The alternative would be admitting that his crew is weak, and what kind of captain would do that? He's miscalculated a few things certainly, but I don't think he's made any glaring underestimations. The only real question is why he returned to the palace instead of killing Zoro and Kinemon.

It's the most typical villain mistake Dofla's making, but the thing here is that back in Punk Hazard when he showed up he said that the Strawhats shouldn't be underestimated, plus he outsmarted Law. That makes me think there's more to this, it seems like a very deliberate writing choice for some reason, not just something to set up a swift villain defeat. Dofla's not laughing maniacally or anything like that either, he's the same he's always been. If that's not the case that's too bad, but Dofla seems too smart to make these mistakes. It sort of just seems like the situation with Law's plan and Doflamingo saw through that.

I meant that he should've subdued -> brought them back to the palace, but that actually makes more sense.

I didn't read MS, but she's not helping DD. What he says is that her reason for betraying him on this particular day is different than Riku (for Riku, it's just because of the false abdication report). Rather, she was able to see Law and the Strawhats coming (both literally and metaphorically, for what they represent) and knew that it would be a good opportunity to rebel.

I mean… she might still have a triple-cross heel face turn in the works, but I don't think DD knows that...

Exactly. As I see, Doflamingo actually OVERestimated the SH to the point he completely ignored third parties taking action. He is so focused on the SH he overlooked all the other groups and people who could also take part in this attack.

I love you Oda, but that was almost Kubo like. Not only did Rebecca win in a b.s. manner, it was also a pyrrhic victory, as there's no way she's advancing through a field including Jesus Burgess and Sabo, and if Rebecca somehow wins that in a b.s. manner, then that tells me Oda is going to name his first daughter Rebecca. At least we're gonna be seeing some action at the factory.

As Doffy himself said, Dressrosa is an ally of the world government and so is Doflamingo. Protecting "innocent civilizans" and catching wanted pirates like the SHs is an admirals job and duty.

Dofla dismissed Luffy's chances of finding an exit from the arena, he calls out for dozens of incredibly high tier fighters to converge on his country, he dismisses an incredibly strong person like Zoro, an incredibly smart person like Nico Robin…all because he just blindly believes that the trap he set for them will just snap and thing will work out.

luffy is not exactly the brightest pirate alive…he probbaly wouldn't have found the exit alone.
also,he has diamante there,so if he does something umpredictable,he will know it immediately..but diamante said nothing (because now sabo is there with lucy's clothes),so he is still guarding luffy,but he is victim of a magic trick (sabo and revolutionary involvement)

he is just saying that at the moment,with the infos in his possession,he is winning..and for what he knows,he is right,but there are several things he doesn't know because thay were umpredictable..and even if they do occur,he still all all his men in all the right spots..remember that the port,the factory,the palace,it's all connected,moving something from one place to another it's really easy,that's why he is not concerned on where robin and usopp are..there are two doors to his knowledge,and he is protecting both with all his crew + an admiral
if croco had the same amount of caution back in alabasta (and it's not like croco wasn't cautious at the time),the strawhats would probably be dead now.

Dofla kidnapped 500 Dwarves, including their princess. He should have expected war at any moment.

The fact that he didn't take the steps necessary to prevent any chance of retaliation is underestimation.

Anyway, I'd prefer if Cavendish was just the puppet and Habura (or whatever his name is) was the real sinister puppetmaster. Is there any clarity on who's exactly controlling who?

So first of all, I'm really happy that Rebecca won. She's easily this manga's best character in a long time, and seeing her win is pretty good payoff for her character arc so far, though I'm a little peeved that she'll wind up losing to Sabo in the long run. I also don't know if I like how thick Oda is laying on this crowd hate thing but whatevs, Rebecca is a perfect snowflake and she so above that shit.~

Speaking of Sabo, Rommel's Kamaitachi is clearly Dragon. Let's not even debate this. Not sure how I feel about even more Revolutionary presence, though. It's stealing thunder from what is clearly Rebecca's arc, and sorta bloating the arc up in a way that's not very enthralling. Though tying "Hakuba" AKA Dragon in with Cavendish is a little intriguing, it still steals the spotlight from the point of this arc: that point being Rebecca. Wait a minute, Hakuba is Cavendish. This means Dragon is Cavendish. Okay, Oda, you're starting to make like zero sense here. Though I suppose this allows Cavendish to be hyped up without being steamrolled by the princess. Actually, this is amazing. I'm now going to call Cavendish Glorificus. Everybody who knows why is now my best friend.

Then there's some blah blah Doflamingo stuff. Seriously, dude is cramping Rebecca's style. Can't wait for him to get his face punched in by ol' Becky. But at least Violet isn't who she seems to be. If she betrays Rebecca though, I will die of sadness.

Overall, Rebecca winning is the highlight of the arc, and I look forward to her becoming a Straw Hat and eventually the main character of this manga. This is just the first step on her road to greatness.

I agree totally. I think doflamingo is being a little overconfident in his and his crews abilities, but in no way is he underestimating the SHs, based on what he knows.

Im actually more of a Law fan than a Doffy fan. But anyways, there is no indication of him having any knowledge about Nico Robins intellectual abilities, and Zoro does not yet have a bounty or reputation enough for being considered a threat to Doflamingo+Fujitora.

The story will obviously end up in favour of your argument here, but i just want to throw the word "Underestimating" out of the window, because the key word here is that the SHs are strategically outmanouvering DD, thanks to mostly tons of LUCK (Usopp being able to pursue the dwarf thanks to his prior knowledge of Norland, Barto saving Bellamy and bellamy in turn showing luffy the exit; and sabo showing up to take the costume of lucy to not arise suspicion about luffys absence).

Saying that Doflamingo is underestimating the SHs atm is like saying the SHs underestimated big mom because they didnt predict that her ship would arrive in search of them/ceasar.

I do find it weird that cavendish suddenly fell asleep, slice everyone up and falls asleep after failing to knock out rebecca. Why? Can cavendish do this on purpose? Maybe he has still some concious while hakubo is in action, so maybe he stopped hakubo from hurting rebecca. It feels weird. Not really op-like.

Sabo and Bastille flat-out explained this. It wasn't luck that saved Rebecca. Hakuba was on a timer (Bastille says), dashing around and giving everyone enough hits to take them down, but Rebecca was the only one able to keep up with his movements (Sabo says), so she shifted her position so that her helmet took the hit.

It's possible that Cav subconsciously wanted to spare her, but the evidence from the exposition-dealers goes against that idea.

I think the true test will be whether she can claim Ace's fruit. Sabo and Burgess are going to be pre-occuppied with each other seeing as no-one else (Diamante included) poses a threat.

That leaves Diamante, Barto and Rebecca to duke it out. If she can come out of that victorious and get Sabo/Burgess eliminated somehow then that would be a testament to her character in my opinion

I assure you I am quite serious. I posted my review without reading the thread at all, so this all comes as a shock.

Though the Rebecca hate in here is an absolute travesty. I'd back up why Rebecca is amazing, but I just don't have the time to deal with opinions I find extra hard to entertain.

Vivi was never supposed to be a strong fighter, that's not how she was brought up. So I can accept her shortcomings and her having to rely on others to help her. She had every right to cry rivers.

Rebecca on the other hand, was raised by Thunder Soldier to become a strong warrior. She should be strong. So I can see why people are disappointed with how this fight turned out. We had the possibility of a strong female fighter, and in the end she needed help to win the block, much like Tashigi did against Monet.

But people forget about Rebeccas past here. The Riku Kingdom had peace for hundreds of years. It's been a pacifist country for generations. Of course Rebecca would be influenced by this. She doesn't want to fight. She's forced to go into battle and avoids confrontation as much as possible. This is why I'm okay with how block D turned out.

However, it would be refreshing to see a strong female fighter eventually. I have high hopes for Wano.

What does that have to do with anything?

She's boring. Her backstory was uninteresting, it being over so quick also didn't help for us to feel with her. Her fighting style is really dumb and going in a tournament with "I'm going to ignore and push you all out of the ring" was cringeworthy. The only thing worse was King Riku's flashback. It's such a ridiculous thing that Oda had to get by far the strongest guy in the group to beat everyone that had a name in the round for her, then fall asleep. He could have just attacked her again from his sleep, but the poor plot device had to be activated. Nice coincidence that her helmet is the reason she's saved and Cavendish didn't hit her elsewhere. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it's some free for all and they all knock each other out and she wins by doing nothing again. Or they slip last second and she wins. Hopefully if that's the case, it's a free for all with those 4 and then she has to fight one of the cards rather than her winning outright and getting the Mera Mera no mi. She seems to have a good sense of speed thanks to her father that's far more interesting, on top of having solid CoO.

People should understand that some people don't enjoy how the female characters in the OP world are written, which is more than fair. Of the last 3 shounen animes I've seen, there isn't a single female character at the moment that irritates me while in One Piece my question revolves on whether Nami #231312 will be slightly more appealing than her predecessors. HxH unfortunately has too few female characters, but the point still stands.
