Hey everybody, Crunchyroll has announced that it will release 20-30 episodes every Saturday along with the next episode in HD!
I"m beyond excited to hear it and I can't wait. It seems that this saturday, it will release the first 25 episodes.
What are your thoughts?

It's good to hear considering that you can't get the earlier episodes in HD anywhere else aside from when they air on Toonami. Though at the same time it's not like the first 200 episodes are in HD anyway so I'm mostly just looking forward to the stuff afterwards.
It'll also be nice to have official subs for those episodes too so I don't have to see shit like "nakama" clogging up the screen all the time.

Yep, they won't look any better than the Funi DVDs. 207+ will be where these Crunchyroll episodes will really shine in HD, better than most of the online raws. So pretty much everything from the Davy Back fight to the end of Fishman island will look outstanding. There are blu-rays for Punk Hazard and beyond, so Crunchyroll won't deliver top-tier quality in comparison to those since the blu-rays will almost certainly have superior bitrates.
A little curious is they're able to do the Toriko (and DBZ) crossover episodes now. While they're pretty much disposable, they do technically qualify as official episodes.
Crunchyroll hasn't specifically said that the episodes will be in HD, but by the looks of it, it does look that it will be in HD. The difference is that these episodes will have better subs and better quality for no cost compared to the Funi DVD's.

This is good news. I was going to buy the DVDs (still will for my collection) and wanted to watch from the start again. Every week 20-30 episodes is good for me and will help newcomers get into it. I remember the first time I watched it I had to download each episode and it was in low quality. These will be in good quality and then HD for later episodes.

Not sure what's got you so hot under the collar regarding Funi's DVDs, since their translations are easily among the best out there. In any case, that CR video uses the exact same subtitles as Funi, right down to the font.

To add to that, the quality of the stream is definitely not higher than the DVD source itself.
Really hoping they don't hardsub the entire series though. It'll be real inconsistent with the current releases, being softsubbed and all.
CR probably just got the encoded video straight from Funi. Who knows if that will change with 207 on.

It's really weird that CR is using the versions with the gold logo and textless closing as well, especally as FUNi's streams seem to be using the analtered Japanese versions. It looks like Crunchyroll literally ripped the FUNi DVDs and swapped the edning with the textless version for some reason.
Also, what happens if they want to add subtitles in an extra language?

I noticed that when I checked the Espanol subs. Disappointing choice using the Funi hardsubs.
