@Tainted:
lol
I never said that Bleach or Naruto were the pennicle of Shonen manga… just that they had themes where the MC gifted with something that would later aid in their powering up/achieving their goals.
Bleach seriously does not have any themes.
Naruto does, but my point is they are bad examples if you're trying to say this angle of yours works and makes sense.
In regards to my main point… all I am trying to say is that in OP there are some special people. Thats it. People that are talented and have the desire to go beyond the norm. From Luffy to Coby....
You make it sound like Coby was worthless with no inherent qualities.
He was.
But Luffy hoped bring the best out of him.
Luffy effected a change in his life outlook. And that made all the difference from turning a bland nobody into a somebody.
Luffy changed his spirit.
But if Coby didn't have that strong WILL to change himself… than it would have been for naught.
So…can you name some special something Coby possesses? I mean he has Observation Haki, but that only showed up well into his career at Marineford. Other than that?
Saul background is still largely unkown: a giant NOT form Elbaf that was friends with Kuzan. If we go by other characters in the series and the ppl that are friends with them:
WB/ his nakama
Roger/ his nakama
Luffy/ his nakama
Not only were the captains powerful but their nakama are also quite skilled as well. So going by that logic… Kuzan and Jaguar were close friends and that would mean they were capable to each in both strength and "possibly" ideals.
What the heck? Nothing about these comparisons make sense.
But that not really my main focus… My point is that Will is in everyone, but a select few are able to take that WILL and make themselves above the norm and into legends:
I don't think you understand what willpower is.
It's not a thing you have or don't have inside you, it's a abstract concept referring to behavior. It's like anger or sadness or stubborness or something. EVERYONE can feel that way. It's human to do so. Same with willpower, fortitude, ambition, confidence, grit, or all the other english words Haki can translate to.
Look at all those words and think real long and hard about what they actually refer to. You're taking it far too literally.
There is no select few are able to utilize it, everyone is able to utilize it. Like enlightenment or something. Maybe we need to get a buddhist in here to talk about that stuff.
Coby, Luffy, Zoro, BB, Kidd, etc have this drive. And with this recent chapter, Don C just made it more clear that there are even MORE ppl with that WILL waiting in the New World.
No it's the other way around, the nature of the drive toward the One Piece, means most people pursuing it will have to have great confidence to survive and persevere that distance. So the people near the end of the quest are a bunch of people with great confidence.
It's nothing so fancy as..
The Conquerors will be the ones to determine the outcome of this era.
