Better that then drinking. Or playing Dragon Quest… :ninja:
But smoking is just as bad as drinking, if not worse… or maybe you're thinking of Oda being drunk while writing... That would be fun, as it seems like he's always drunk while writing.

A lot of people in the One Piece community (not here, in general) think Oda was on acid when he made Foxy.

Wasn't there a psychedelic drug called Foxy?
Found it. Interesting effects…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-Methoxy-diisopropyltryptamine While Foxy does look like something someone on trip could create, I could say the same for plenty of OP characters. It's a one big trip.

If we are talking on addiction level…
Drinking is worse. Much, much worse. I take smoking over it any day.

A few weeks after my dad stopped drinking, an entire brewery shut down from not enough business

I'm from eastern europe. We know how to drink
But still. Smoking is probably the best addiction Oda could pick out of the bunch. Of course, it would be best to have no addictions at all, but we should take what we can.
At least he's not addicted to Dragon Quest. :ninja:
EDIT:
There's something I can't understand, is how people from the blues can move from one blue to another. Don't they have to pass through the Red Line/Calm Belt/Grand Line to do that?
One piece is all about will . Yet Oda has an addiction that could prevent him from ending his manga or to simply spent a longer time with his family
Do we know how people usually get in top of Red line?

I'm no expert, but I think that's just completely wrong. Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs known. Alcohol only has a similar effect on people who have the genetic predisposition.
People evolved drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco was far less common I'd wager.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, it's pretty common advice from doctors to have like 1 glass of red wine a day, that alcohol is actually a healthy thing in moderation. I don't think I've ever heard a doctor support smoking tobacco in a similar way.
Usually, upper types of drugs are also more dangerous for your body in the long run. They cause heart disease and strokes and stuff. Caffeine and nicotine, IMHO, are probably much more dangerous drugs than most people tend to believe.
Keep in mind that if you drink even one beer each day, you already are an alcoholic. Just drink a cup of cherry or grape juice, which have just as much antioxidants, just wihtout any other harmful ingredients. Please stop spreading nonsense benjamminbrown, you are clearly uneducated on the topic and your anecdotal information doesn't help your case either. And coffein dangerous? Yeah if I take half a dozen pure tablets each day… not when I have to work half the day and drink a thermal jug of coffee to keep up.
I imagine smoking doesn't give people a mental handicap and that's all the info one needs to see which one is worse.

Or an addication that allows him to work seven days a week so we can enjoying his creation.

And to pass from East to South and North to West and vice-versa, they still have to go through the Grand Line. Right?

I've met plenty. Was merely stating that your opinion about how addictive each substance is might not be very realistic.
Keep in mind that if you drink even one beer each day, you already are an alcoholic.
I… have to wonder if you know what "alcoholism" is. Drinking every day - while, in general, not the best idea - is not the same thing as alcoholism. Alcoholism, being a form of addiction, is about compulsion and lack of control. To give you the benefit of the doubt, though, I'll note that if you feel compelled to drink every day, you're an alcoholic.
Just drink a cup of cherry or grape juice, which have just as much antioxidants, just wihtout any other harmful ingredients. Please stop spreading nonsense benjamminbrown, you are clearly uneducated on the topic and your anecdotal information doesn't help your case either.
There is some irony in this. First of all, there are some probable health effects from alcohol, and these have nothing to do with antioxidants. Meanwhile, the [health benefits of antioxidants](http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/antioxidants/#antioxidants benefits) (beyond the levels needed for normal metabolic processes) are dubious at best. It makes you look bad to tell someone else to stop spreading uneducated nonsense when you are doing exactly that.
I imagine smoking doesn't give people a mental handicap and that's all the info one needs to see which one is worse.
Actually, it does: nicotine dependency affects a wide variety of mental processes, which is why you see the behavior commonly called a "nic fit" when smokers need a smoke. This causes anxiety, irritability, loss of focus and concentration, and many other side effects besides, and is combined with a very strong addictive effect (studies and anecdotal accounts both indicate that tobacco addiction may be a more difficult addiction to combat than heroin), plus tobacco has numerous long-term effects even at low doses - something you don't see from low doses of alcohol.
That being said, for alcoholics (edit: and some binge drinkers), alcohol is dangerous, debilitating, crippling, and even potentially fatal (in fact, alcohol is one of the few drugs that can build up a physical addiction so strong that withdrawal can kill you). However, you are overwhelmingly less likely to become an alcoholic from alcohol use, than to become a nicotine addict from nicotine use.

I am pretty sure the definition of alcoholic is not "has 1 drink a day, every day". Alcoholism is associated with addiction, meaning you physically have to do it or you start to suffer withdrawal symptoms. That does not happen to people who drink once a day who do not have the genetic predisposition for alcoholism.
I may not be perfectly educated on the subject, but I do think I know something about what I'm saying. Rarely do I pipe in, otherwise.
And coffein dangerous? Yeah if I take half a dozen pure tablets each day… not when I have to work half the day and drink a thermal jug of coffee to keep up.
Yeah, caffeine is probably a lot more dangerous than most people know. It sounds to me like you should try to get better sleep and work on your caffeine addiction, because it is definitely not healthy to have a lot of coffee every day.
I imagine smoking doesn't give people a mental handicap and that's all the info one needs to see which one is worse.
I can understand that perspective, but you must understand that it is a perspective completely ignorant of the other medical effects of both substances.
Caffeine and Nicotine can be extremely harmful because your whole nervous system becomes dependent on them and leaves your body in a heightened stress state… all the time. This is very harmful for people in the long run, one of the big reasons why older people typically die of heart disease and stroke, just as I mentioned.
Anyway, I don't really want to fight this out, just wanted to present my side.
How many of you guys have actually seen an alcoholic?

Not commenting on the argument, didn't even read it all. Just want to reply to this on caffeine.
There was an article with something about that, a Man had one of those energy drinks, then drank another one. He ended up having a heart attack. Turns out that particular energy drink had a warning to only drink one in a 12 hr (or was that 24?) period. There was so much caffeine that it acted like an accelerant and affected his heart. Wheile not every one
I would have in inclined to blow that report off as fake "Drink 2 energy drinks and have heart attack, yeah riiiight"…. except what happened to me when I was 19.
I discovered that while some people can handle a big load of caffeine in one day ... I'm not one of them. I was at Job Corps and had kitchen duty. Got up at 5 to 6 and started to drink coffee to get through the shift. I didn't space them out, with one per an hour, more like 20 mins apart if that. By noon I was at the nurse's office. My stomach was churning, I had a migraine, and my heart was racing.
Learned then anything can be bad if too much is consumed
…
Hey I won't say no to a after-work beer either, but that's how it's defined by many.
My doc said that three or four cups a day put me in absolutely no danger. FYI, my jug has a volume of 0,5 liters. :P And I prefer tea anyway.
I never smoked a cigarettes in my life, but I know how bad it is getting sweat attacks coming off a related drug. :ninja: I even bought a e-cig for my parents. ;)
That's so OT, that it doesn't even deserve to be furthered in in this thread.
How many of you guys have actually seen an alcoholic?
Like I said, I have met plenty. Alcoholism isn't pretty, that's for sure. Addiction in general seems to be a pretty messy thing. :/

I've definitely had too much caffeine before. I know the feeling. Yuck.
Problem is that for those who are addicted (and there are quite a few of us, me included), if you stop drinking it, you start suffering from withdrawal within a week. I start getting nagging headaches that can build into really bad ones if I haven't had any caffeine in the last week or so. But a single cup of coffee when they start happening, and BAM, they're gone. I'm an addict, for sure.
I try to limit my consumption, though.
@bouncyhippo: Humans are habit forming creatures, after all. I think that one could argue that any habit is kind of like an addiction.

being addicted to not being addicted a bad thing?

I limit my caffeine intake to drinkin Coca-Cola
sometimes I drink the 'kick you in the gut stuff' like Surge or apt named Kick … great stuff I love them but rarely drink them
I drink more soda than I should and yeah I'm a Coca-Cola addict. Can't go a week without a caffeinated soda.
Only coffee I drink (and even then its rarely) it the light-weight stuff of the flavored tins. ... oh its been so long I've forgotten the name -International Coffee house??
How many of you guys have actually seen an alcoholic?
I'm not sure we're really on topic anymore, but I haven't been sure of that for a while, so what the hell, right? Personally, I've known at least 5 people that I know were alcoholics, and I lived with 2 of the 5. I've known addicts of a number of drugs (not counting tobacco), and strongly suspected a number more that I never had positively confirmed.
However, to be clear, simply having known alcoholics is not sufficient to diagnose alcoholism; in fact, people who have alcoholics closely related to them are often _over_sensitive to indications of alcoholism, associating healthy consumption with signs of addiction. It's pretty natural, really, if you know much about human development. Of course, that oversensitivity can have any number of causes other than personal experience, so you can't use that information to make reasonable generalizations about people, either.
Don't smoke.
Don't drink.
The end.
I hope Oda will live to write the end of One Piece.
Stay healthy, guys.

I figure that if I tried step 2 (and 1 :ninja:), that step 3 would happen because I died of boredom.

You need hobbies that are not drinking. Like reading One Piece.
I have too many hobbies, already! How can you ask me to read some 700 chapter manga on top of all that?

How would you have done it differently ?

Maybe Usopp spitting the grape or a part of it back into her mouth or an eye.
Or putting an ephasis on Sugar accidentally breathing in a part of that infernal mass shooting out of Usopp.
That's considering the current setting, where Usopp is immobilized and all.

You mean his tongue and eyes? His tongue is on fire for obvious reasons.
How would she "breathe in" his tongue? This is a manga for kids, I think that might be a little too mature of a kiss for them to see.

I mean what I said. You have a guy eating a spiced up tabasco, if he burps and exhales it and if it's strong enough, a person who breathes it in might be affected almost the same as if she were to eat it.
That "manga for kids" argument doesn't stand, not after 740 chapters. We have mad scientist experimenting on children, nobles torturing slaves, admirals piercing people's torsos and flaying part of their heads, marines killing entire island populations, men (or fishmen) shooting and killing women, but breathing into someone's face would be too mature?
It's not really a biggie, since I'll get over it, but I feel like Oda could have done it better. Better for my taste anyway. It was hillarious, yes, but I wish the situation didn't make me wonder how Oda couldn't think of anything better. We already had Usopp causing a girl to faint from shock in a ridiculous situation.
…but breathing into someone's face would be too mature?
I was merely saying that showing a deep french kiss where Sugar figuratively inhales Usopp's tongue might be a little on the inappropriate side. What exactly did you mean by "that infernal mass shooting out of Usopp"? I didn't see anything shooting out except for his tongue and eyes, lol.
Was there a burp sound effect when Usopp screamed? I thought he was just screaming.
Not all people burp upon ingesting spicy substances. I don't, anyway.

You're the one who went on about a french kiss even though I never implied such a thing.
You don't see the fire and steam coming out of Usopp's mouth?
!
It's on no less than 4 panels. Poisonous fumes are coming out of his mouth right next to her face. Would make more sense to me if that was what knocked her out. It would still be comical, only slightly less weird.
I respect other people's opinions but seeing a girl who isn't even a girl but grown woman get knocked out by seeing a scary face of a man in gut burning agony left me scratching my head a little.
As I already said, it looks to me like his tongue is just on fire. For obvious reasons.
Razh, she is just shocked about his weird face, as she is looking from the side, not in front or above him, get over it. :P

LoL I did not notice your sign! Good one !
My answer is that the presented solution is better than yours. :ninja: It really wouldn't turn it more into his victory, it would still be just an accomplishment of the goal. Okay a mix might be good way too, I can remember you posting that in the 742 thread over the last 24hrs.

Ahhhahaha, thanks! I'm embarrassed to admit that it took me a while. I'm still no GIMP expert.
I posted it in my "Great… Bet" thread for the Forgetfuls to wear. I'm still deciding on what would be funny/appropriate for the Raggedies.

Same thing but with different execution since I'm not fond of comical gags that affects the plot i.e. Nami hurting Luffy with her punch… Sanji's nosebleeds... when Caime makes her face fault, does her face literally change that a character can actually note that her face enlarges, eyes pops out, tongue goes zigzag... things like that? Usopp noting that Luffy's eyes turned into takoyakis?! Did Usopp's eyes really popped out like tentacles?
Or am i not just that fond with tentacle looking objects...
So basically the same thing with less tentacle looking popping eyes... hmmm... a pretty large pupil less but still popped out eyes with burnt nerves and lots of tears... steam coming out from the ears... a rather flat zigzag roasted tongue coming out with fire and all... just not the tentacle looking thing...
lol.
@ITaeyeon:

You seriously need to take a step back and realize that this is a shounen manga, and comedy is a big part of it. No need to be so serious all the time. No need to make theories about every single thing that happens (Yes, I'm looking at you, "Usopp using CoC"-theorists). Oda is here to entertain us, and he succeeded.
usopp using lies and deception to defeat sugar using the no-so-bright an quick tempered trebol
