Some of these are too damn hard to chose. T_TAs long as you'll continue being the most amazing Enel worshipped around here, I'll allow it~
-
won't be having too much time for campaining this round
-
It would have been hilarious if we wound up with a Crocodile/Doflamingo or a Crocodile/Eneru tag team.
-
especially Crocodile/Doflamingo, as Crocodice and Eneru have never met in the maga
-
Wait - by Pokemon standards, does that mean Crocodile is super effective against Eneru?
-
@400MillionBelis:
Wait - by Pokemon standards, does that mean Crocodile is super effective against Eneru?
Not only that, but Eneru's electric attacks wouldn't faze Crocodile (whom I'd put as a ground/poison type) in the slightest.
-
I feel bad for shakky/tashigi they dont stand a chance
-
@400MillionBelis:

Obviously…
Also, I know the match ups were probably decided randomly, but why not alter that policy and have them make some sense? For example, the very first match would work a lot better (in my opinion) as Marines vs. Jokers. That way, people could vote with more confidence, without having to second guess themselves because a character they don't like might piggyback on the victory of the one they're rooting for.
Though, the match up that irks me the most is (obviously) Tashigi and Shakky vs. Bon-chan and Eneru, which is so unbalanced and unfair that it might as well be skipped and the victory handed over to the latter team right now. It's bad enough that both Tashigi and Shakky got railroaded by Satori shenanigans in the last two rounds, but now they're also being cheated out of their match and tossed aside just for some laughs. If the teams for that match were man/woman (preferably with Tashigi and Bon-chan teaming up, since I can't stand Eneru), instead of women in one and men in the other, then I wouldn't really have a problem with this setup. Of course, this is all just wishful thinking on my part, so carry on with your fun…

Oh man, I'd love to watch them battle. I've always loved the idea of them meeting because they've both got these huge egos. During Alabasta I thought Croc was completely insane, much like Eneru still is (but now in space!!). Also they would be the best rap duo. Eminem meets Coolio or like Sick YG.
-

Enel is part flying too, just like Thundurus.
-
-
@400MillionBelis:
Enel can't fly though.
He can fly just like all Logia's can, but better than some actually. Plus, he's got his ark - putting him Electric/Flying would be fair :ninja:
EDIT: Plus all the thunderbirds that exist and Gods being in the sky et cetera.

For a while, Shakky and Tashigi basically had the easiest match in Round 3 but then Nami vs. Rayleigh happened and we had to redo everything.
The rest is just luck of the draw. We can't really help it that Bon and Enel got paired together and up against Shakky and Tashigi by chance. :\
-
Obviously…
Also, I know the match ups were probably decided randomly, but why not alter that policy and have them make some sense?
Except for the ties, they were random paired, and then the teams were randomly matched.
Shakky/Tashigi was weird because we had planned something else to happen there before the TWO ties happened. (Can't give details till the tourney is over though.) Now they're sort of first round characters in the equivalent of a fourth round match, so of course its tough for them.
@400MillionBelis:
Enel can't fly though.
Neither can Emolga, and its a flying squirrel. Still an electric flying type.

Mind telling- damn it, never mind :/ Just saw your editing. Once the tourney is over, then! I'm curious. Really curious. Like, what I've been wondering about since you brought in the Satori-reverse-match-thing-curious!!! Please tell me.. ____________

No matter - Zoro's bad-ass type is superior to all the other types. :>

That's assuming that people who like marines don't like pirates and vice versa. Which shouldn't REALLY be an issue. The first match teams I feel came out quite ironic and should have some fun campaigns. Marines vs Jokers or whatever would have been good too… but this allows people to flex that creativity muscle.
Though, the match up that irks me the most is (obviously) Tashigi and Shakky vs. Bon-chan and Eneru, which is so unbalanced and unfair
Hey now, the character tournament has always been full of that. It's a natural part of what it is.
that it might as well be skipped and the victory handed over to the latter team right now.
Which wouldn't be fun.
It's bad enough that both Tashigi and Shakky got railroaded by Satori shenanigans in the last two rounds, but now they're also being cheated out of their match and tossed aside just for some laughs.
I can't really say too much about the Satori antics… but what's happened has happened. They are getting a legitimate chance to compete and will require support to do so... not complaining.
If the teams for that match were man/woman (preferably with Tashigi and Bon-chan teaming up, since I can't stand Eneru), instead of women in one and men in the other, then I wouldn't really have a problem with this setup.
Correction, the match is Women versus God/Okama. Get it right.
I'm not even gonna ask why you think two women characters fighting two men is somehow a bad thing or unfair.
I mean… I understand Tashigi is a character you like... but it seems like you're asking that she be coddled... which ain't gonna slide.
Look, I ain't trying to come down on you... in fact I feel Tashigi and Shakky compliment each other nicely as a team and are pretty damn badass together.
But yeah, they're going up against a powerhouse... so do what you can and throwdown for them!!If it makes anybody here feel any better... the teams were drawn by a co worker of mine at my job. His name is Adam and he doesn't read One Piece... nor did he have any idea what the names he was drawing out of a solo cup were for.
Blame him.
But he has five kids you heartless jerks..
-
Thanks for your replies, Kitsune, Robby and Gekko.
I guess I'll just have to suck it up and silently curse those people (whoever they were) that shot for the ties.
Also, if asking that Tashigi not be subjected to any more Satori-like antics is "coddling," then, yes, I suppose I am asking that she be coddled. I'll definitely still campaign for Tashigi, I'm just not deluding myself into thinking she actually has a shot against that strong a team.
Anyway, that's all I'll say on this matter, since I don't want to be seen as "that guy." Now I'm going to wait and see how the first match plays out and then edit my campaigns accordingly…
-
@Mugen: Hattori went up against Nami. That didn't stop me from going all out and putting my heart in campaigning for my little birdie. He may have lost in the end (end he will lose again this round), but I still enjoyed the match.
What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter who your favourite character is up against. It doesn't matter if they most likely won't make it. Just give it your best and enjoy it while you can!
Also, if you want to blame anyone for creating the menace that is Enel/Bon-chan in the first place, you can blame me.
I drew the teams … out of a strawhat, no less!!
! And before anyone jumps to conclusions: I wrote "Hattori" on that piece of paper and put in there as a joke. No more, no less. Because, you know, I'm Nia and I'll die if I don't say/write "Hattori" every five minutes.
I drew the tag teams before Nami's match had ended. At that point I didn't even dream of having Hattori back in the tournament. -

Bad-grass types are inferior.

-
Oh i'll correct myself.
Nia drew the teams. My co worker drew the matches.
-
Was your coworker so intrigued he decided to figure out what this One Piece business is?
I can vote now, so bring it on campaigns!
-
I'll just point out that I thought it was impossible for Makino to beat Kizaru two years ago, so the staff arranged a huge one time gag event to make the match interesting, because we assumed otherwise it would be a huge boring slaughter match.
For those that weren't here then, the gag was basically, I was going to support Kizaru all day, then near the end of the day, after Kizaru was ahead by 100 votes or so, we switched around the vote slot, which was going to throw Makino into the lead. At which point I would suddenly switch avatars and pretend I was supporting Makino all along and the gag was going to be on me, and on me and me alone, and that was the joke. But then a perfect storm of Makino appearing in the chapter that very week, and my playing the fop that must be defeated far too well… The audience surprised everyone and Makino totally won that match by a landslide, (and so the gag backfired which led to the audience thinking I had cheated to force the Kizaru win... which was the OPPOSITE of the intended result. And then for the next couple weeks people complained about it until the gag was shown to be... you know... a gag.)
Makino won an "impossible" match, by a large ammount, despite all expectations and has turned into a perpetual fan favorite as a result.
Awesome Octopus got through his first round despite only being in one panel, and came close to winning his second. Pwngoat defeated Blackbeard. All the admirals lost in the first round for two years straight. Hattori beat five strawhats in a single match. Buggy came from 30 or 40 votes behind to defeat Sanji, and then very nearly Zoro the next round. Banchi the smoking turtle fought Zoro in a first round, and still had a hell of a match and a month of campaigns leading up to it. Weird crazy upsets for smaller characters can happen with the proper campaigns. People will often vote for a character sheerly out of a single campaigner's enthusiasm, (just look at Hattori! ) or due to another campaigner's negativity. And both Bon and Enel have made it to the finals before. That might actually work against them.
It was a random draw. It IS a tough matchup... but it IS the third round. Its typically only the 16 strongest competitors at this point, out of a starting roster of of over 200-300 characters. This year due to the twin ties, there's 20 characters. A couple of them would have normally been eliminated in the first or second round instead of going to the third. They get to have more fun and more campaigns now, a chance to shine a bit longer. They may be up against an opponent out of their league, and likely to lose, but you never know. Them competing in the third round doesn't make any campaigns less fun, doesn't make it any more or less likely for them to get to finals. Bon Kurei lost to Zoro one year, and it sucked that he had him as an opponent, but then got to the finals the next year. Luffy won the whole thing three years ago, and then was out in the first round the next year.
The matches are always random and luck based... sometimes characters get tough fights out of their league... especially in the later rounds, and sometimes that leads to the best and most interesting matches.
(My favorite match ever is still Moria vs. Aphelandra. And she lost that by a mile, it wasn't even close. Still the best and most memorable match in the tournament's history, IMO.)
Remember, this tournament is about the journey, not the final result (Otherwise we'd just start with a top 32 and make the whole thing fit into a month.) Campaigning and a sense of fun is what its all about.
-
And there I thought I'd found out Nia's secret secret :(
-
This post is deleted!
-
I should also point out that, my favorite character in the series, Wapol, has never even made it past the prelims into round 1, let alone round 2.
-
And not to mention… Tashigi is currently in the manga... which could change everything!but, enough of that... ahem, Bon/Enel 4 lyfe!!Praise the sun!!

@Nia:
You're making it sound like there are good grass types.
I kind of want to challenge you on that but at the same time it's rather tough. I do like Venusaur though. Not my chosen starter, but it's pretty damn tough. Don't know much of the newer gens, but apparently Torterra's cool~ and Shiftry/Ludicolo :ninja:
And I'm both of them.
Totally figured you out.

Those aren't pure grass types. They've got secondary ground and water typings respectively. (And most grass types in first gen had a secondary posion typing.) Pure grass types suck. They can't really hurt much that water doesn't, and they're weak to like 7 different things.
And after the redistirubtion in second gen, grass is the ONLY thing poison types can hurt, but since grass has 6 other weaknesses thats not really a thing. (and steel is downright immune!). And most grass types have a subtype that counters poison anyway!
-
Yeah. Grass and Poison types are pretty bad.
There are some exceptions. Even though that's mainly due to hax abilities assisting more than their own traits. -

Gotta say you're right.. Shouldn't drag this on I know but I did once have a Sceptile which wasn't too shabby. Making up with its speed, at least.. But yeah pure grass is pretty useless.

@400MillionBelis:
Though, maybe because I take my Pokemon seriously as much as I take One Piece seriously and has made trained and bred the ultimate Parasect.
Bug main type. 4x weak to fire and flying. Mostly all he has going for him is spore, (which is amazing) and several other things have that now..
-
I'm still bitter about Banchi drawing Zoro in the first round back in 2009.
Dammit Ivotas.
-
Ivotas isn't here to hear you complain any more and you know it.

@RobbyBevard:

Heh - took up a Paras because how much it suck. I learned that with some good training, and conjunction with hold items, I can make the suckiest of Pokemon at least decent. Except maybe Magikarp.
-
@RobbyBevard:
Ivotas isn't here to hear you complain any more and you know it.
Some day, he'll come back and do a search on his name and find that post. And it will be too late for him to do anything about it!
-
And somewhere in Germany, Ivotas begins to laugh…..but doesn't quite remember why.
-
@RobbyBevard:
Pwngoat defeated Blackbeard.
I still don't think that would have happened if the rest of you would have let me keep that in its original spot as the opening match.
But nooooooo. We had to have Apoo vs ShuShu as the opening match instead.
-
We should have a novelty tournament where we only put joke characters.
See who's better - Fred or Satori? Pwngoat sounds like he has a chance.
-

I think Hattori wins that by default at this point.

Hattori is a joke character? He was the main antagonist of an entire saga.
-
Far as this Tournament is concerned, Rob Lucci is the biggest joke character out there.
