I just want a nice, flat chested girl to join.
Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
-
-
Oda goes through various lengths to make his main characters look unique from each other. If he really wanted Rebecca to join, he would have bothered to make her more distinct.
So yeah, "looking like Nami" could be considered a valid meta reason.
It's not a reason she can't join though, is it? If Oda had said he went to various lengths to make his main characters look unique, then it would be. Until then it's just speculation on your part. I wouldn't give it the same credence as a reason that would require a massive plot hole to bypass, say. Besides, you could say Oda should have done more to differentiate her whether he wanted her to join or not. Given that, I don't think the fact that he didn't can be taken to mean anything.
-
But… but... we need a new female in the crew... Just look at the varity of female pirates in other crews... BUT if someone joins, it HAS TO BE a good looking girl... And Oda just is able to do either Nami or Robin.
"Ugly" women are not allowed
The strawhat pirates aren't like other crews, you should know that, they can make grown man cry
!
-
I think the crew is going to eventually get a competent lookout. Someone who might hang out with Zoro in the crows nest.
CH 304 pg 8, and 9. Luffy/Usopp point out how Robin isn't great at being a lookout. Most of the time Zoro/Robin are placed on lookout duty since they are the ones who have the most free time on the ship. lol However both Zoro/Robin are horrible lookouts.
!
Here is how the crows nest looks like..it has a telescope. Zoro pretty much personalized the crows nest. I personally think the lookout would have good chemistry with Zoro.
!
There is a telescope and a loud speaker mic in the crows nest.
Looking at the characters on DR Violet would be the best lookout with her ability alone.
However a dwarf like Wicca might also be a good option. Since she is part of the recon team and has been hanging out with Zoro. I think Wicca and Zoro have good chemistry.
-
wicca has done literally nothing
if she was even remotely important she wouldn't be stuffed in Zoro's pocket. she is presumably with Zoro and Luffy right now, yet she is just sentenced to irrelevancy inside Zoro's clothes. what kind of potential crewmate gets that treatment?
can't believe people think Wicca is a serious candidate loli'm against a dwarf joining until 1) one of them gets distinguished from the masses (Leo sort of has this role, but on the whole he is pretty bland and not significantly different in personality from the rest of the Tontatta; if anything, he serves as a medium through which all of the dwarves may speak, not as a unique and distinct individual) and 2) they get a good fight. this may seem pedantic, but I need to be convinced that oda can pull off a dwarf fight without it seeming really awkward. they're so tiny that I can't help but think it would look really bizarre and stilted for a tiny little munchkin clashing swords with a human. how is a double spread of a dwarf knocking out its respective arc villain going to look if the dwarf is like 1/100 of the page? i can't see it looking nearly half as good as a spread of Sanji smashing in a foe's skull or Luffy taking up the entire 2 pages with his huge gear 3 fist
-
Wicca's chances of joining are slim to none. Only real difference between Wicca and the other dwarfs is that she is the only one who actually met Luffy. Her personality is slightly more defined. She said she was a ditz/klutz. She casually insulted Zoro when he ran past the stairs she told him to take. She was the first dwarf to actually come in contact with the crew. We didn't see her but she was the one who came in and stole Zoro's sword. Right now I am not sure if she is with Zoro. She might have gone with Kinemon to help him find Kanjuro.
She has plenty of cons. She already has comrades and a decent support group in her tribe. Not really an outcast or someone that significantly sticks out compared to the other dwarfs. Compared to the hundreds of other dwarfs she just blends in with them..none of the straw hats really blend in like that. Just about everyone sticks out one way or another.
Just wanted to bring up Wicca since she is actually with Luffy's team right now. Unlike Leo who in the recent chapter lost and is being used to give Usopp some balls…Wicca has a chance to stand out since she is either with Luffy/Zoro or Kinemon...both groups will get a fight sooner or later. Odds are stacked against her tho and it is a bit silly to bring her up as a serious candidate....
The dwarfs in general are fighting to get things back to the way things were during good ol King Rikku's time. When they could freely take whatever they want and not get abused due to someone taking advantage of their extreme gullible nature. None of them really have any reason to leave once things return to "normal".
Oda can use different angles to show the dwarfs fight. Something like when Luffy goes and takes down a giant.
!
Or the fights could have angles like in Attack on Titans
!
Or it could be something strange like this..lol Fight like a Jaw Breaker.
!
-
It will be Manshelly. This is her who ate the Golden Thief Bug Zoan fruit. LOL
!
Well whoever the new Nakama is I think it will be hinted down to their primary hair/costume colors. Brown/White/Gray are available.
Brown Hair = Viola?
White = Cavendish?
Semi-Gray Hair = Jinbei -
It's not a reason she can't join though, is it? If Oda had said he went to various lengths to make his main characters look unique, then it would be. Until then it's just speculation on your part.
Does he really have to explicitly say what your eyes can tell you in half a second of looking?
If Oda was planning to put in another character that he'll be constantly drawing for the next 10-15 years, that will be in all the group shots and all the merchandising… he's going to put a lot of time and effort into making them look distinct, and its going to be more than just hair color that doesn't show on a manga page that distinguishes them. (If you can't point out at least 3 distinct visuals, he probably didn't put that much time into them.)
Even Nami wouldn't past muster nowadays…. but Nami gets a by due to having been introduced super early in the series, at the time being a girl WAS a standout unique feature in and of itself. (That every girl since looks like her isn't Nami's fault) Even then she's got a unique haircut, hair color, tatoo, bracelet and compass, and her timeskip design of bikini with pants is pretty unique. (And when in combat she's got the pole weapon thing.)
Robin has the unusual nose bridge, unique eyes, and pre-timeskip, was the only one with a haircut like hers. (Now its more like Hancock's cut, but still fairly unique.) Not to mention the story threw a hell of a lot of intrigue around her and she interacted heavily with all the strawhats in her first 2 seconds on screen.. (I'd mention the cowboy hat as also being pretty unique to her first appearance as well, but that's come and gone)
Do you really think after the likes of Chopper, Franky, Brook, Jinbe, and the variety of women on Amazon Lilly that someone ordinary looking thats extremely similar to Nami is going to pass muster?
If Oda introduces a new girl that has a shot at being a crewmate, we'll know he when we see her.
-
There's always the three-eyed girl.
-
There's always the three-eyed girl.
I joked about that when she appeared for a panel. But she's got more potential than anyone currently being named and we don't know a single thing about her, since she's the first and only three eyed anyone that we've seen… which is at least unique. (Which she can presumably close to look cute and normal for most occassions.)
I won't throw out "crewmate!" at all based on a single panel, but she's certainly going to be important.
-
Yeah, she's definitely going to be big in some way judging by that one panel that we've seen thus far. Her presence and clear apprehension wouldn't have been showed and emphasized like that if she wasn't a character we're going to get to know better. And her appearance would certainly be unique enough.
She's probably going to be a Division Commander, though. We'll see.
-
For heaven's sake this time they have to take the princess, Violet will become Queen and Rebecca a straw hat
Pros:
- She has an interesting design and background gladiator/princess
- Strong but not overpowered
- She is kind
- She has a sad family history
- Surpressed by endboss Doflamingo, like other members before
- Young enough to take the position of the apprentice
- Impressed by Luffy ( A point against Kinemon, he is impressed by the whole crew, no "special" relation to Luffy)
- New haircolour pink ( I know a weak one ^^)
- Possibility for her to eat the mera mera no mi, related to the fairy tail of Hans C. Anderson, but maybe Sabo gets it, I don't know
- She is female makes 7:2 to 7:3
Cons:
- princess
- said she wants to live with tin soldier
- Does not hurt people
Add some arguments for both sides, there are at least a few I have forgotten
I don't hate Rebecca, but she is not joining, no ifs, 'ands', or buts
1. How is her design interesting? As Light Bro said, she is a nami clone.
3. Is any member of any royal family in One Piece, with the exception of Wapol, not 'kind'
4. You have a point, but its so bland– 'bad guy killed my mother'-- could be better with the upcoming flashbacks, but still, I bet you Bellamy, Law, and, Doflamingo's flashbacks will be 100 x more depressing
5. Who, on good guys sides of this arc, hasn't been suppressed by Doflamingo; are they joining?
6. You sort've got a point here
8. Grasping for straws here man; pink hair, blargh.
10. Enough with breasts already. Boobs are not a reason for anyone to join the crew. Oda's female designs, for the most part, are homogenous and bland, and Rebecca is no exception. -
What would Rebecca do in battles if she joined though? I'm honestly curious because her whole pseudo-pacifist view doesn't really seem suited for battles.

And I really do not want that to be a prerequisite for every female to join the crew.:getlost: -
I think there might be too many characters on DR for a character to get the nakama development. Most of the flashbacks have been about the country and its tragedy. This arc might be more for Luffy and the allies he recruits rather than a nakama.
Rebecca/Violet/random dwarf all seem rather limited currently. Rebecca/Violet's main story is heavily tied to DR and the type of development or lack of nakama like development they got during their flashbacks isn't helping their case. Dwarfs are straight up side characters right now. None of them really stick out like any of the previous nakama have. Only dwarf that kind of seems different personality wise is Manshelly, who was said to be spoiled, hot headed..etc She hasn't even been introduced yet so I don't know what plans Oda has.
The dwarf's and their extreme gullible quirk is a bit too much to have in a long term character. Yeah Chopper/Luffy might be naive but I don't think they are as gullible as the dwarfs.
If anyone is going to end up traveling with Luffy and join..I would expect it to be a bit more clear by the time Luffy fights DD.

I bet a lot of guys didn't expect the 2 members of the SH's to join, when they were introduced in the arc.
Robin, when she showed up at whiskey peak, and Franky at water 7, when he stole the money and beat the crap out of Usopp.
So it's still hard to tell who's going to end up joining in this arc, if there's one.
Personally, i'll rather just have Jinbe, as a helmsman. A big imposing fish guy, steering the wheel, fits him perfectly. -
I still bet on Rebecca, literally, for me the only new character with potential to develop,
physically and and mentally, at the moment she is fighting for herself to fulfil her dream to live with the soldier,
but maybe it will change and she will fight for the innocent and peace alongside Luffy, who knowsand in addition during my rewatch I found a panel about the soldiers point of view for the futere
!
He says he will stay by her side until the time she can finally become happy.
Maybe he will encourage her to join Luffy, he junst wants her happy and protect or strong herself,
both would definitely be very easy around Luffy and the crew
One thing is certain for me if she joins or not, in both cases it depends on the toy soldier
his actions, words or fate will decide -

-
There's still a bunch of things against Rebecca joining though. All discussed to death already.
-
Manshelly for next nakama!!!
lol seriously though I would love to see the straw hats get a character from another race like the dwarves
I think the only two races we haven't seen yet are the snakenecks and minkmen right?

Yeah me too. Why not a Troll?
-
-
Manshelly feels like the only likely candidate, but we have to see her before we can make a prediction.
And as for being a princess, the dwarves won't need their own separate kingdom when they rejoin Dressrosa society after all this Doflamingo stuff is over.
-
I could see a Dwarf joining as a Botanist. Think about it, having one could make several SHs jobs easier and help them out with their hobbies:
Chopper: Serve as a Pharmacist, helping Chopper grow new potent healing herbs to treat wounds and afflictions.
Nami: Helpl her grow more and tastier Oranges.
Sanji: Grow spices and healthy fruits and vegetables to improve his cooking.
Usopp: Grow Tatababasco stars for him to sling at his foes! But the problem is finding a dwarf with a distinguished personality who isnt too naive, that personality quirk is not unique amongst the ranks of the strawhats (but again, we already have three perverts so…)

Add Franky's Adam wood for ship repairs…
Her dream is to find Frodo's ring which will be in Raftel..... My Precious!

You're confusing dwarves with hobbits.

Who cares if Smoker or Rebecca or Violet or Barto or Bellamy are joining. It's confirmed that Trafalgar Law is joining the Strawhats. Why? Because if Smoker could join that means Law has a higher chance than Smoker!!

This is the clearest and most concise explanation so far. Laveet!!!
-
At this point, the discussion should be whether the remaining crewmate joins before, after, or simultaneously with Jinbe. I'm hopping before, since that would give him or her more time to get fleshed out (assuming it's someone new).
-
Well my 2 cents. If somebody will join of DR. I feel it will be a samurai. Kanjuro is getting slowly hyped more and more. And I hope he will be a dual wielder like Kinemon as it will fill in the two swordsmanstyle gap.
Then I think Bonney will have a bigger story. Somebody who is running for the highest grade of the WG. Both Nami and Robin had a fight with WG related enemies. Who knows what Bonny's backstory is.
Jinbe will join.
The last one I always suspected somebody with the Mera Mera no Mi. So depending how this arc goes…
-
It'll definitely be before Jinbe joins. I realistically don't see him joining for at least another 2 years. The Big Mom storyline is mostly in the backseat right now as Oda is focusing on Doflamingo and Kaido. The way I see it we're in the middle of Kaido's saga and someone will probably join sometime during it. Jinbe will join sometime during the Big Mom saga.
Also as far as the story goes Jinbe being the last to join makes more sense since he's already spent 3 arcs with Luffy. Let's say Jinbe joins somewhere in the middle of the New World, it'd be really dumb to have someone completely new and yet to be introduced character to join the crew during the final stretches of the series. That being said I think it makes it more likely that we'll have someone join relatively soon to sail with the crew for most of the New World as opposed to later.
-
I think Jinbe will officially join first since he already got his serious invitation. However, before we see Jinbe we might pick up a nakama. This way if the nakama is a new character then they have time to build a history with the crew and be there for some key events.
We got Kin/Momo traveling with the crew from PH which was approximately 45 chapters long. Now they are with the crew on DR which is looking like a huge arc 40+ chapters. DR might be as long as Alabasta or maybe even longer. Next Kin/Momo/Kanjuro will all probably be there for Zou which might be a short arc..then Wano country which I'm guessing is a huge arc. So they definitely have some time to build history with the crew.
If we are going to get a female member we might have her start traveling with the crew first…While traveling with Kin/Momo/Kanjuro. Soon Jinbe will probably get involved as the Sunny group is dealing with Big Mam. I don't know if Kin/Momo/Kanjuro will stick around for that. Maybe they will split up with the crew at Zou and Luffy and the crew might see them later when they visit Wano?
Nami and Robin both traveled with the crew fairly early then had their own personal re joining arc later. Can we expect to see something like that in the NW? So far I don't see any character on DR who might have that much of a story outside of DR. lol they are all looking pretty limited.
The story could allow a smooth transition from one arc to the next. Already looks like Oda has the arcs lined up. DR, Zou, Wano. We either get a female on DR or Wano. Maybe DD doesn't get defeated this arc and the final fight happens on Zou or Wano Country? Really depends on how DR plays out. How is Kaido and Big Mam going to be involved. Kaido might be finding out about FI and the ancient weapon sitting there. Big Mam is already after the SHP.

What about one of the dwarfs maybe that princess fancy's a change of scenery a dwarf would be interesting no, unlikely I know but stranger things have happened.
-
a dwarf would fit the crews weirdness (a cyborg, talking raindeer, curl eyebrows, long nose, zoro's unnatural aura, and a living skeleton)

Zoro's "unnatural aura" isn't too different from haki.
I agree with most what you say .. but since the examples you give are about physical weirdness, Zoro's green hair would fit better -
Bellamy -.-…. I think...

her personality is supposed to be selfish, mean, capricious, and short-tempered
so it'd be funny if at the end of this arc when everything's settled, she promises to the rest of the dwarves not to cause any more trouble for them and apologizes and then as the straw hats are on to there next journey (with a couple more friends like kanjuro, battolomeo, don chinjao, boo, sai…. and maybe cavendish) and then she just pops out of Luffy's hat
they all do the shocked expression and they ask her "why are you here.... What about the promise you made them" and they just get an answer like "I just felt like it" with a don -

her personality is supposed to be selfish, mean, capricious, and short-tempered
I forgot who I was talking with who agreed with me, but I've entertained the idea that it would be hilarious if they call her all that because she's actually the only one not to be so easily deceived and is always yelling (therefore she's 'mean' and 'short-tempered)) at other dwarves for believing the lies, and not agreeing with the humans trying to deceive them (therefore she's 'selfish') ect.
suspicious looking thug #1= "Work for us and we'll give you food/supplies ect"
random Dwarf= "You will? you're great!"
Manshelly= "You idiot! He's lying! and I won't fall for it!"
other dwarves "How mean!" "So Selfish!" "She's always yelling at us, she's so short tempered!"Let's face it, if I had to deal with most of those dwarves, I'd likely be short tempered too!
… I really hope things go that way -
@kuma:
What about one of the dwarfs maybe that princess fancy's a change of scenery a dwarf would be interesting no, unlikely I know but stranger things have happened.
The problem with the dwarves are they've been pushed to the side this arc. They just don't feel very important and Oda hasn't given them a lot of focus outside of their mission.
The only one (as I've said earlier) that I'm holding out for would be Manshelly since she might be different in personality from the other dwarves. The naive personality of the dwarves aren't really distinct from Chopper and maybe even Luffy. I personally think based on early crew sketches that some of Oda's ideas for dwarves were transferred over to Chopper. Instead of being a tall swordsmen raindeer he became chibi, naive reindeer.
Again, the dwarves are really playing a side role this arc. So far it seems unlikely that Manshelly will play a main role and so far seems unlikely to interact with Luffy by the end of the arc.
-
I was thinking about this the other day. It occurred to me that the people that have joined typically had nothing to keep them from joining, no other responsibilities other than what they felt through guilt (e.g. Sanji) which were then soothed by the person they felt they owed by the time their arc was wrapping up. Zoro was just a wanderer, Nami's only goal in life was to get rid of Arlong. Sanji and Usopp both wanted to sail the seas for various reasons, but felt like they had a responsibility to stay at their current location which they were freed from at the end of their arcs. Chopper and Frankie both wanted to be pirates and had pirate father figures, Brook already was a pirate. Robin had no home left, had only just made friends again for the first time in years and her main goal in life perfectly coincides with sailing along the Grand Line; the Poneglyphs. Each of them had something that was holding them back but also something that they could be freed from.
By contrast, Vivi actually wanted to stay in Alabasta. She wasn't their due to exterior forces trapping her emotionally, she just loved her country and the people. I think time and time again, when someone could've joined but didn't, there was either no wanderlust in them in the first place or they already felt they had a place in the world. I feel that a Vivi-like reason is why Rebecca won't become a crewmate. I don't think any of the Wano Country guys will because of the strong overlap with Zoro's role - though I do expect him to be taught how to cut through flames. None of the dwarves have made anywhere near a strong enough impact on Luffy or the other Straw Hats to be invited. They have NPC written all over them.
I'd really like to see Koala join to up the female quota of the SHs while also being different enough from Nami and Robin. She's got an interesting backstory, a fighting style that's pretty rare and would be unique amongst the group. However, it seems like the Revolutionaries are going to be kept separate from the SHs, at least for the time being. Also, if everyone's assuming Jinbe will definitely join later it wouldn't make sense to have two Fishmen Karate users.

Your sign is awesome. And Koala will surely stick to Sabo and the revolutionaries. They make sure we care about the revolutionaries on a emotional level.
-
Koala would be a great addition to the crew but so long as Jinbe joins, she won't. And she's already with the Revolutionaries.
