That last song really got to me. So simple, yet so profound.
Steven Universe

There has to be more sentient life out there, as the diamond autority was afraid of being "the laughingstock of the universe", but I feel that to avoid the more serious moral quandries, the only colony with sentient life was earth.
The way that the kindergardens work imply that they are taking life force, but it could very well be escential minerals or the like, making the taking of life sustaining planets unnecesary, but I can't asume that earth was the first planet with organic life encountered, (besides the existence of the forest moon, and Pink's zoo) as they didn't react with any form of surprise to it.
My current interpretation is that gem production requires extracting the same minerals that life needs, leaving the chance for some of the colonies to be "earthlike" planets outside their goldylock zone, so a colony without victims. But that can't mean completely clean hands, as them turning earth into a colony, without any justification, but one more of the bunch, means that they have ended biospheres before.
Yeah, all of the colonization brutality will be off-screened and censored, but it has to be there. They got an army for a reason. Someone's putting up or had put up a fight. I just don't want all their past deeds wiped clean or never referenced again. Still got a human zoo to shut down and a bunch of falsely imprisoned Rose Quartz gems to free.

That's a neat detail I would have missed. I appreciate.

I'm always surprised by how people almost never bring up Phineas and Ferb when it comes to influential animated shows when a ton of people who worked on that show have went on to their own shows as well, how much it affected the way Disney approaches television animation, and just how popular it was at its height.

I wonder if it being more episodic than the usual animated fare nowadays is what gets it underrated or even treated as a relic of 2000's animation.
anyway, kind of flawed 'cartoon family tree', but relevant I guess

It was on the Disney Channel instead of Cartoon Network, and it came after Kim Possible? So there was no reason to be on the channel to see it in the first place? I know i basically never saw it.
-
It had an audience that was pretty consistently half again to twice as big as Adventure Time when they were both airing new episodes though. Even Gravity Falls didn't pass it on Disney Channel until after Phineas and Ferb was shifted over to Disney XD to try and lure people to that channel.
So it's a weird combination of a critical darling that was actually really popular but still gets left out of these conversations.
-
I'd also like to tip my hat to The Loud House. True, the episodes themselves are pretty hit-and-miss, but there's just something very warm and comforting about the family dynamic of that show.
-
I think that show being overlooked is more the result of Savino being a massive, Kricfalusian creep than anything else. Even with him gone, there's still a whole guilt-by-association thing.
-
Speaking of Loud House, Kick Buttowski was a good show.

I had decided to drop SU, but knowing the last bomb had finished the season I decided to watch the last 5 episodes I was missing anyways and, man, I did right. Those last episodes really elevated the series and I am amazed how the end actually felt so properly done (I didn't felt it was rushed at all, everything just seemed to move at the perfect pace).
I don't feel like going back when a new season arrives, but I don't think it would be a problem as this end seems to close the series perfectly to the point it's almost a shame it's not going to.Btw, love every and each of the Crystal Gems new looks. And White Diamond is just too much of my kind of character, I can't <3

Still no release date.

Wow there's so much to unpack from the movie poster. But mos importantly
! Steven has a neck now. Timeskip is real.
-
Ahhh. I was trying to figure out why he seemed a bit different lol.
-
!
Hidden for size, the temple has some new aditions as well.
-
I assume:
! Lapis, Peridot and Bismuth are also living in the temple, and the Barn became a big gem city for the recovery of the formerly corrupted gems. Also that seems to be a communication hub on the temple,I guess Steven took the role of Steven Diamond.

I stopped watching a while ago, did jasper ever get uncorrupted and get her redemption arc?

! She got uncorrupted in the final episode and…I guess she's cool with everyone else.

So steven didn't "uncorrupt" her? And she didn't join the fight against the diamonds? Boo. Boo I say.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
She always did have big mommy dom energy to me.

! Yep, all of the corrupted gems got cured at once, with the help of the Diamonds.

!Well that was…something, I guess? I really thought there was more to unpack with her. And wtf, are the diamonds not the villains? What happened with that? I have so many questions, I should've just kept watching the show, lol.
-
Yeah, you should, a lot happened during the final season. Any explanation will not do the show justice, and some parts will be contencious. They decided to deal with the family part instead of the all powerful intergalactic dictator part.

16 ways to die in hype.
-
Wow! Blood Diamond is really using the most of the whole just being a hologram thing.
-
!
! -
Blood Diamond seems nice, what's the problem? :ninja:
-
Is this out on September second? In tv where I can… find it... faster than if it was a theatric release? Awesome.
-
Great movie.
! The soundtrack for the movie was really good. Also I didn't expect Steven and Greg to fuse.
-
Yeah this movie was pretty damn amazing.
-
The movie was amazing.
! -All the songs were top notch, not that I expect anything less from SU.
-The animation on Spinel, especially during her introduction, was incredible.
-Steven + Greg fusion was an awesome surprise
! So is this is it for SU? As far as I know, they still haven't announced that the show has officially ended, which is…kinda weird. -

! Pink is still the worst.
! Loved Spinel from her songs to character and backstory and animations both pre/post memory wipe. I’m kinda sad she’s going to live with the Diamonds given their unhealthy obsession with Pink…but hopefully they all become better over time, but don’t know how they will without someone to guide them to be better. -
! White Diamond giving off Power Grandma Energy and good lord is Greg the only thing Pink didn't screw up?
-
What a jolly good movie.
! Pink had the ability to ALWAYS screw things in front of her. That's how Steven was born after all. r/pinkfuckedahuman.
And what about Steg hum…more like stallion. He could impregnate every gem in a mile with a wink, the old universe charm got too powerful, please nerf it Sucrose. -
! That smile as she walked away makes Pink Diamond the worst person in this series by far.
@Cyan:
! good lord is Greg the only thing Pink didn't screw up?
! Would he have stayed in Beach City if Steven hadn't been born or would he have continued on with his music career?
-
! saw someone on another board suggest calling the Greg/Steven fusion "Multiverse". A better name than Steg anyway. Reminds me of a pervy webcomic I read…

! Ooooh do you read the Rock Cocks, too? Because that Steg is also the best.
! That entire fucking movie, though. It's an incredible achievement. The animation, the music, the writing. The plot is very tightly-written and made me care very deeply about the all new character. There's a lot to process. Like jesus the soundtrack is 69 (nice) minutes long, which is already most of the movie framed in song, and each one was incredible. I think the villain song and the Steg track were my favorites, but I'm going to need a few hundred listens to really get my thoughts in order. -
Okay, so my thoughts about the antagonist's backstory and her relationship with a certain other character:
! Spinel's story is…wow, that's dark. Poor thing. That flashback montage song was super effective at making you go from "What is this chick's problem?" to "Oh god, that's so horrible, the feels!" And I also felt a lump in my throat at the end of the fight when Spinel broke down and was like "I don't even know why I'm fighting you, I just wanna be a friend." :cwy: After "A Single Pale Rose" showed how selfish and insensitive Pink Diamond could be, episodes after that made a few steps towards at least explaining some of that, and showing that she was flawed but still mostly well-meaning, but this definitely was a reflection of her most negative traits.
! However, while what Pink Diamond did to Spinel was objectively horrible and I'm not trying to absolve her of the blame for what happened in any way, in terms of how this works with what we already knew about Pink's character: I think it's also important to remember that this was when Pink was still in her most "Homeworld" mindset, of wanting to be seen as an "adult" Diamond and not just a kid anymore. From a Diamond's perspective, she outgrew Spinel, who was one of the "trinkets" that the other Diamonds gave her when they were still treating her like a child, and didn't think about how Spinel would feel about that (which is in line with how she always had a tendency to be selfish and insensitive even if she wasn't trying to be). With the way the Diamonds raised her, she was probably raised to think that she didn't need to care about how Spinel would feel about that.
! So yeah, basically, this reinforces the idea that all of the Diamonds kind of used to suck and be awful rulers and really not good people, and while Pink may have been marginally better than the other three, she still wasn't great either. Hell, the very first time we ever actually saw her (as Pink, not Rose), which was also back in the "Homeworld" days, she was throwing a temper tantrum about not getting her own colony, and she was pretty strained with Pearl at first. Her character development really got kick-started thanks to Pearl, which led to their master-and-slave dynamic (which Pink didn't like) changing and becoming something better, as opposed to Spinel, with whom she had a similar relationship pre-development, and as such, that never changed and Spinel got the shaft. Still awful, and Spinel's pain and heartbreak was completely understandable and justified. On a slightly different note, I can understand why they did it, but these "remember the new guy" scenarios where there's suddenly a new character introduced who is/once was super close with an old character but you've never had any hint before that (s)he existed is still always kinda jarring, haha. And other miscellaneous thoughts:! * That Connie smooch for Steven tho
- I loved the reversal of how things originally went between Sapphire and Ruby, with the former saving the latter this time. And how, once again, they were clearly attracted to each other just by spending time together…I watched that part like four times, it was so cute. They are the soul-est of soulmates.
- OMG, Steg! That was awesome, and Greg finally got to fuse.
- Finally, a VOICED Opal appearance! For the first time since…season 1? Yayz! Also, just the way Amethyst and Pearl fused to her, and were holding hands when they unfused. They've come so far.
- The way all the Crystal Gems got their memory back was sweet. And I also kinda appreciated that, just like how Amethyst was the first of them Steven fused with, she was also the first who recovered her memories.
- I cracked up super hard at the part where Garnet's like "we should get him water, staying hydrated is important when it comes to smooching".
- Also, I was chuckling again at the Diamonds at the end. They kiiiiiiiinda suck at this, lulz (change takes time, after all), but they're very obviously trying, and it's sweet. Them adopting Spinel was cute, as was their <3 with their hands as they were leaving.
- That little moment of Lars and Sadie being together right at the end made me smile.
