They've already dealt with dragon-based dis-continuity. Ryuuma mentions dragons, Zoro says he doesn't believe in them. Hence, warship never happened. I don't hate it, but it IS best forgotten.
Chapter 655: Punk Hazard

As a dedicated fan of Robin, I had no choice after viewing this chapter but to scream….
ROBINGASMMMMMMMMMMM
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/4319/robin655.jpgI KNOOOOOOOWWWW!! <3
I would like to know who "boss" is…
Could be Oda, Oda is Boss.
Not saying the samurai aren't strong, but remember that Ryuma was famous even among the samurai for being unusually strong and skilled enough to kill a dragon. If we assume all the samurai are close to Ryuma's level, then they certainly wouldn't present a threat to a Marine base if it was guarded by Pacifistas
I saw some people thinking that that Ryuma VS Zoro was the real deal. So this goes to all that people: That was Zoro VS Brook's shadow.
- Its not the island that's hot, its robin
I KNOOOOOOOWWWW!! <3
It was ODAWESOME!
I lol at that dragon anime filler.
-
-
I would have loved it to see everyone walking with an umbrella except luffy. Imagine all the inhabitants with enel like faces :-)
that would be hilarious :DDD
-
Hmm I have a theory that Urouge was at Raijin island

t](http://www.mangareader.net/103-56101-18/one-piece/chapter-594.html)he same island that Smoker was at
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/59626333/10 and yeah… Nami, Robin, Smoker and Luffy where awesome in this chapter
Robingasm ftw
-
Hahaha, Iceburg's new secretary is a 10 year old girl? That's awesome.
How fast Oda jumps into the next adventure…..stuck on a firey sea (which will look cool in the anime, I hope), the Sunny's traveling along....and someone calling for help phones the ship? (lol at how Luffy ignored Usopp's and Robin's warning and answered it). This "Punk Hazard" island's got an awesome name.....and Brook gave us some info on Wano Country, interesting.
Oh, we get to see Smoker in full.....the scar's cool, but I'm not sure if I like the slicked back hair.
With Usopp's hiliarous reactions to Luffy's actions, I was surprised to see a freaking dragon at the end of this chapter. So many questions…..where did it originate from? Is it who phoned the Sunny? What's the secret behind Punk Hazard? (once again the manga makes a plothole out of the anime)
Great chapter overall.
-

You don't even have to theorize about it, it's pretty obvious. :ninja:

mother of enel.. O.o

Raijin Island has been brought up in the Manga in three different occasions. I'll be surprised if the Straw Hats don't go there in the future.

Enies Lobby, Impel Down, Thriller Bark.. I would not expect anything less from Oda. He just picks the coolest sounding words and smashes them together at random for best results.
And what anime plothole are you talking about? Something from the Warship arc, mayhaps? .. Because I've never really bothered to watch that at all. -
@Miss:

Yep, it's a winning formula.
And what anime plothole are you talking about? Something from the Warship arc, mayhaps? .. Because I've never really bothered to watch that at all.
Yeah, dragons (well, they looked more like deformed birds) appeared in that arc…..a plothole was originally made because Zoro said, many arcs later, in Thriller Bark, that he didn't believe in dragons. ....Maybe it's not so much a plothole but.....well, either way, we've got dragons in canon officially now.
-
My guess its gonna be a short arc… around 30 chapters.
seven pages on an island and we already have a prediction on the number of chapters the arc will be…
I like the way you think! -
You're unbelievable. They are two completely different words with completely different meanings.
I just skimmed the rest and see how entirely hopeless this conversation with you will be.
you just become more used to it the longer you are in it. Doesn't mean you still aren't hot.
Guess what. This is all I was talking about. I wasn't talking about Luffy evolving his body like a Toriko character so he can handle heavy gravity, extreme heat, not breath white breath in the cold, or developing antibodies for poison. I was talking about Luffy taking the heat like a man with few signs of being uncomfortable. That is all.
Maybe its the island's heat that is on a whole different level?
Its enough to melt houses, seems a level higher than Impel Down. And they are walking just fine, like if it was a regular summer day. I find that impressive, actually. -
Hey, how did a dragon that big sneak up on these guys?
-
-
Zoro and Nami gave done awesome foreshadowing /clues
Zoro inquired if the the gate was used to keep in what use to be there, before the fire(which is confirmed to be man-made)
And Nami mentioned that the clouds above the Island is the Same as a snowstorm, and that the island doesn't have a magnetic pull
And Vegapunk is all about weather manipulation
-
BAH HUMBUG, I wanted Luffy to actually tattoo that 3D2Y nonsense on his arm to draw major parallels with Ace's tattoo. Luffy wore long sleeve shirt for all of fishman island arc and i was expecting some sort of unveiling of another tattoo on his back or opposite arm, really make a pirate out of the kid. BUT NOOOOOO.
Nice to see the world's best navigator busting out the milky road, can't wait to see her flying around with her waver in the air. Oda is going out of his way to show us ALL POSSIBLE islands, something I hope he continues to do until Raftel.
Perhaps Luffy and Zoro will be on Punk Hazard while G-5 marines arrive. I would enjoy a Sanji Vs Smoker and Tashigi Vs Brook. Even if that doesn't prove true I'm still feeling this arc.
-
Interesting chapter to say the least. Seeing the dragon was a throwback to the filler "millenium" dragon, which this chapter very clearly defines as non-canon when the crew couldn't fathom the creature's existence. I wonder how Luffy will handle the task of combatting such a creature, especially in such harsh environmental conditions. Either the crew flees into the cold climate and hope for the best, or Luffy manages to convince the dragon that they are harmless.
If there are other dragons on that island, may Enel-I mean God- help that crew.
-
I don't even know what that kind absurdity is called?
Its called a Strawman. And they're really annoying fallacies. :/
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
so you can decide what i mean by immune yet i can't decide waht you mean by resistance?
And no resistance to heat does not mean "he feels hot but isn't bothered enough to take off his shirt or comment about it" What you are saying is he tolerates heat up to a certain point. If he was resistant to heat he would not feel it at all. When i am cooking I put on heat resistant gloves to take stuff out of the oven. Or When i am working with electricity I may wear rubber gloves to have a electrical resistance.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_resistance
According to this page, one can be resistant up to a certain point. Your argument is incorrect.
And in case anyone thinks I'm stupid for replying bit by bit. I'm just reading the whole thread and replying to what I find interesting to reply. -
Great chapter. really liked the sense of adventure and just being thrown into the next arc just like that. Before people brought up Vegapunk, who I forgot about, I was thinking the island was called Punk Hazard to convey: "This place is hazardous to weak punks, if you're not tough- stay away."
-
In relation to the "This Place Is Where Vegapunk Was Cloning Dragons And It Went Jurassic Park On Them" theory, I was wondering; What if that Samurai (or others) there are actually Mercenaries hired by the WG to hunt down and kill any dragons they find on the Island and kill any intruders in case they find out one of the WG's secrets? Maybe it'll be more of them the the Dragons that'll be the enemy here, perhaps.

Not likely since we were told that the Samurai's from the country of Wano have no ties to the Marines or WG.
Its more likely that the Samurai's are hunting the dragons or whatever other reason…
and Luffy and co will save them. -

Well, there might be the possibility of them technically being Ronins then Samurai still.
Well i personally see a scene like the Alabasta scene where Smoker's Respect for Luffy goes up again.
The Samurai's(Croc+BW Destroying World government allied country/Weapon plans.)on unauthorized Government property for whatever reason and Luffy and Co Kicking there ass; than Smoker shows up and sees that his job is done once again done by Luffy; than we get a short Smoker vs. Luffy and Tashiga and Zoro moment. -
The dragon is a friend, nothing it to be gained by showing Luffy can defeat a mythical creature who's power we have no reference to.
It does not progress the story in some way, the Samurai are clearly the ones being hyped up and Zoro has more to gain by defeating the Samurai country's strongest swordsmen and taking his sword. The dragon is probably the one to make the call, the weather on this island is supposed to be cold, no wonder a dragon would feel that (despite the fires he lit) this island is cold.
Zoro centric mini-arc so he gets a sword. Love it.
-
in my opinion this is an island where vegapunk carried out his experiments on various beasts , a disaster happened four years ago which left the island desolate, and aokiji and akainu thought on it 2 years ago.
-
Also Notice the Team of the Strawhats that are on the Island. (Luffy, Zoro, Robin, Ussoup)
Luffy and Zoro Obviously have a history with Smoker and Tashiga, Robin has some with her as well,
and Robins Presence around any Marines is good dialogue.
ussoup is just a Straightman in front of 3 Weirdos.(you need one of them)
others most likey will not encounter Smoker. than Luffy + the 3 will Escape on the sunnyEdit: Maybe the others will encounter the Grunts.
-
@gum:

why does Aojiki and akainu have to be involved
-
Wondering if this island was another one of Vegapunk's failed earth-heating systems? Like the one on his home island, but it went overboard and razed the island uncontrollably? Just an idea.
-
This post is deleted!
-
[…]I read a post out there in which a guy said that Aokiji was hidding in Punk Hazard recovering from his wounds […]
Not recovering… but maybe training? Admiral level, trying to improve in order to beat Akainu... The only other space known where he could train in an environment that could make him take a sweat (see what I did there?) is Impel Down's Level 4.
-

Yea, this could explain somehow the sea on fire. If not, I have no idea how it can be explained.
-
3. long neck –> NO SUCH THING (as of yet)
7. All those monsters from the Strong World movie –> these were regular animals turned big, this one does NOT count
12. DINOSAURS –> if you mean drake's fruit, it's an ANCIENT zoan, in other words such a creature does NOT EXIST anymore and hasnt for a long long long ass time, otherwise it wouldn't be catagorized as ANCIENT 13. CYBORGS –> artificially created lifeforms, does NOT countis it so hard to imagine having a real dragon or a real phoenix
also, has it been cleared up yet if nami's new technique is called "Milky Rod" or "Milky Road" ???? imo milky rod doesn't make ANY sense , perhaps a typo on mangastream considering they also fucked up the text balloons when luffy answers the den den mushi, not to mention the spoiler thread clearly says milky road…
and what is up with their usage of "wano ku-ni" ??? why not just use wano country? -

The dragon cannot be the one who made the call since it was mentioned (it) had a crew, and also (it) said "is that you boss."
and i don't see a Dragon Zoan Devil fruit user crying and begging like that.its most likely a real dragon The reason for the Samurai's being there.
-
Forgot that Wano Island (aka "Edo Island") was mentioned before. Doubt Punk Hazard is the same island just because samurai from that island are there, which is about as much proof as Little Garden being Elbaf because giants are there.
While it would be cool for this dragon to be an actual dragon, we really shouldn't rule out the possibility that this dragon is actually…something that has a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit Model: Dragon. I personally don't mind which way it ends up being.
I hope so too…Man that wasnt a dragon...I mean that head of his .... the whole thing...Lets pray for a "Kokoro like" memory delete from the anime :P
"we haven't met a dragon again...Right?" "Right captain"!!
I was originally uneasy about them meeting a dragon (not a DF user) in deep regret in that it actually might help sustain the Apis arc of the anime as "not a complete waste of resources" and dubious claims of having the first introduction of dragons in the One Piece universe, but considering how horribly those..things…represented dragons I'm willing to believe that the crew won't make the connection when they meet this dragon in Punk Hazard (in the anime). Now if there is an additional callback to Apis and his feathery freaks, however....
-
It's not Wano… Did people miss the gigantic "Punk Hazard" above the entrance?
Besides, in Ace's flashback Wano looked completely different.
Where do they show Wano in Ace's flashback? As far as I'm aware, the only thing that was mentioned about Wano was him learning how to make hats there, or am I missing something completely different?
-

Well, the scenes with the hats were set on Wano itself, so we did see it, but only briefly.
-
Best chapter in a long time. Loved it and can't wait for this arc, wherever it may take us.
-

!
Nope.
Ace only learned how to make the hat from the Wano country.Edit:Also Punk Hazard is not the Country of Wano for those who think so.
!
Read the page Carefully… Keywords.
Deserted/closed off and Their should'nt be any people living there. -

You make a valid point, I still don't see the Dragon as a villain. At most Luffy will "tame him" like Surume.
The Samurai are clearly the points of interest in this plot, and for Zoro to receive an upgraded sword to match his upgraded skill.

Completely agree. Dragons are victims of the Samurai's.
Though Not sure about zoro getting a new sword.
However i do see one of the samurai's looking at Ryuuma's Sword and commenting on it like "where did u get that" -
Why do people keep mentioning Akainu and Aokiji? Smoker said himself that Punk Hazard has been off-limits since an incident 4 years ago. Note that Akainu and Aokiji fought during the timeskip, which would have been 1-2 years ago.
Also, I can imagine Smoker using his DF power to fly over the flames and pursue Luffy. That was what Nami's new ability made me think of.
-

People Think that since its both hot and cold on that island, Magma man and Ice man fought there 2 years ago -.-.
My guess However is its technically a cold island that's Hot Due to the Volcano Erupting and the Dragon being there.Edit.
!
The other half is cold. -
Wondering if this island was another one of Vegapunk's failed earth-heating systems? Like the one on his home island, but it went overboard and razed the island uncontrollably? Just an idea.
I was kinda thinking that. Like he froze it to match the climate, then the heating on one half then went out of control.
-
haaa. I'm gonna use that now.
Use it at your own risk! It is too Odawesome for the simple minded!
-
Seeing a Dragon in One Piece is just awesome.
I just thought of something about this chapter with the dragon and samurais in Punk Hazard. If Punk Hazard was an island owned by the WG and a Dragon happens to live there, is there a possibility that the dragon works for the WG and it's living there for itself own protection from the Samurais of the Wano Country? It's just a thought.
-
If the samurai is there to hunt the dragon, why are there other people there too? Smoker said that no-one should be on Punk Hazard, as it's been closed off by the government for four years. Yet Luffy obviously caught a distress call from a group of people that were there. And how did they get there, with the island surrounded by a sea of flames? Looking forward to getting answers to these questions.
-
For Punk Hazzard being the Wano Kuni… I don't see why it isn't plausible. Brook and Ryuuma are the ones who have given us information about it, both of which are fifty years or older. Unless Brook actually, y'know, read up while he was touring (if there are even records of this kind of stuff), his information is likely as outdated as him! Ryuuma's even more so.
We know by this chapter that something happened on this island four years ago, but that still gives 46 years from Brook's time that the country could have changed. And then there's that dragon. Going back to the Monsters one shot, seeing a dragon makes me more inclined to think that this place would be the Wano Country. Dragons seem to be more mythological in the current OP world, at least going by Robin's reaction - being an archaeologist gives her the most knowledge of the 4 seeing the dragon and, thereby, the most credit. So having the place where they see a dragon for the first time be an older Wano Country makes sense because of how there were known to be dragons in the same location back in Monsters.
I'd be fine if it wasn't the case - things are looking great regardless! - but for now I'm of the belief that this is the Wano Country we've been waiting for. And it's nothing like was expected. XP

I was surprised at all that the World government actually had an island 4 years ago in the new world. I guess since its so close to the entrance its understandable.Further down it will be Independent nations(like Wano and maybe Elbaf) and Yonkou Territories i guess.
however i think its highly unlikely that a dragon being under the Governments control when pretty much they come from the new world(most likely Wano Country) where the WG have no Influence. Also its been closed off to and Deserted and no one should be allowed there. Its a good place a dragon can hide to when Samurai's are hunting you. I don't think the WG is involved at all concerning the Dragon. For Punk Hazzard being the Wano Kuni… I don't see why it isn't plausible. But its not Brooks words… Its Tashigi's that you should be reading and you'll understand why its not the Wano Country.
