Nope, but people seem to feel that everything in the series must be either a DF or Haki now.

Nope, but people seem to feel that everything in the series must be either a DF or Haki now.The dragon is Haki in animal form!1!11!!! :P
-
OP is so much better when you have no idea what to expect. Seriously.
-
Reading the thread I am kinda baffled by how many people seem to sceptic about a dragon. I mean seriously people? We have Sea Kings the size of islands, we have Kraken, fishman of all kind, giants, giant birds, giant snakes, talking starfish, living islands and so on but somehow you balk at the idea of a dragon and think it must be a zoan? Seems like a weird attitude

Nope, but people seem to feel that everything in the series must be either a DF or Haki now.Good then. I thought I missed something.
In this case, the lack of Df makes it better. A living dragon. ~

Rather than the kyohei pirates I think that symbol looks like Little Oars Jr's pirate flag.
And yes I think I can make out a horn on that huge skull. How is that species called anyway?Oars lol?@Nolus: Yes it does look slightly different and Oda's used that sign twice for different crews (though they were both made of mammoth races) I think there is a link seeing there is that skull and we know the 'oars' are taller than giants.
You know that volcano they see erupting at the beginning it's on punk hazard right?
Edit:@kmohyudin:
Zoro not knowing what a Samurai is? Never expected that…
Not sure what he is actually saying CCC's and mangastream translation of the sentence are not even close. Dn't think he is asking what a samurai or wano is though,he already knows about them.Perhaps confirming with Brook that the guy did mention samurai?
@Donkey:
I have a small theory. Dragons became extinct few centuries ago. Dr vaga punk conducted experiments on this island to genetically resurract dragons from DNA (much like jurrasic park), he was successful but dragons were dangerous and out of control , so the facility got destroyed by dragons. The samurai are there on punk hazard to hunt dragons as it seems history of wano is some how associated with dragons.
Lol I initially skipped that post because of the earlier 'vivre card made on wano' one:ninja:. Dn't know about the rest but I like the dragon(s?) being the reason for the samurais' presence on the island.

I think they were confused by it's ability to talk. Then again, dragons are pretty smart and I've encountered some who talked in video games, cartoons and books. It's not a new thing.

That was what I thought at first too, but it looks different. It might be some basic "monster" sign.

OP is so much better when you have no idea what to expect. Seriously.
That's pretty much why I stopped reading spoilers.
-
One wierd thing about this chapter(not sure if people have pointed it out): Why would Luffy want to help these guys? I mean he said he really doesn't want to be a hero at FI..
-
Nice chapter!
Considering the incident thing and all the signs and barriers, it seems to me the island hosted a top secret experiment gone bad… maybe similar to a nuclear incident... with mutant things everywhere and kaijuu fights (the creature at the end is Godzilla and not a dragon!)! -
-
I wanna see that dragon do an Enel-face.
-
Amazing chapter this week! Things are rolling now!
I don't see Punk Hazard and Wano being the same island, but admittedly it wouldn't be the first time Oda historicized an island (Jaya/Upper Yard). It just seems kind of off.
I really like the hypothesis that Akainu and Aojiki fought on Punk Hazard. As some people pointed out, there is some tension in the timeline. Maybe the extreme heat/cold climate is independent from the effects of the duel, which is why the island was chosen as an ideal location? Can't wait for next week!
-
One wierd thing about this chapter(not sure if people have pointed it out): Why would Luffy want to help these guys? I mean he said he really doesn't want to be a hero at FI..
Because it's mysterious and he craves adventure.
-
Brook not going back? Why the hell did people think that? Because of Franky's off-hand comment?
To me, Hancock being Luffy's mom takes the prize. Though Crocodile being a woman is almost equally stupid. I know the latter hasn't been completely jossed yet, but the Cerberus DF hasn't either. The chapter was great, though I'd say it was not more "typical of One Piece" than the last few chapters were. It felt fast-paced, but not rushed like the start of Fishman Island. I don't really mind, as I'm fine with the first couple of New World arcs being short so that we can get introduced to the place.
At least people here on Arlong Park are generally smart. In the majority of the other foruns, it's exactly the opposite.
In fact, the levels of stupidity and retardation in some forums are so great that they literally make me cringe in agony… today, for example, I read a post out there in which a guy said that Aokiji was hidding in Punk Hazard recovering from his wounds and ended becoming an ally of the samurais there...now, together, they protect the dragons from the cruel dragon hunters that attack punk hazard....:getlost:....sigh.
Thing like this are rare here, but there? It's almost the freaking law, man. -
That's pretty much why I stopped reading spoilers.
I literally can't read spoilers, because by the time I get home from school or have computer class, the chapter's already out. Last week, my friend took a look exactly at the page where Nami was having a bath. Needless to say, he was pleased. Then looked at me like: "Why are you reading comics with nude girls?"
-
@S.C.:
Because it's mysterious and he craves adventure.
So he can go to the island.
Thanks, yeah, sort of guessed that, it's just a little bit wierd seeing that a few chapters ago he took offense to someone calling him a hero.

Lots of fanservice this week.
I don't mind really and Robin is the cutest thing ever, but I wonder if Oda is having editorial pressure to increase the boobs per page percentage.
-
I'm am filled with antici…..pation! I feel like we could get see some awesome Ex Maines this arc.
-
I'm sure this has been mentioned already, but I'm almost positive Punk = Vega Punk, which means this was a research facility for Vegapunk before his current lab, and something went horribly wrong four years ago. What, exactly, I'm sure we'll find out.
-

Those are all just large animals. A dragon is a dragon. Nothing like any animal. They would be have the same if they saw a Griffon or Cthulhu.
-
Just chiming in to agree with the sentiments about this awesome chapter.
A couple of things, though. People are being thrown off by the fact that this dragon can apparently talk. But couldn't dragons talk in the manga that was essentially the shounen parent of One Piece? You know… a little manga called DRAGON BALL? And dragons could speak in the aforementioned Skyrim and D&D. Also Filia and the dragons in The Slayers, as another anime example. I could come up with others too.
Second, I just noticed that Robin's the one who's steering the Mini Merry. Awesome.

I didn't even type like that when I was 12, and that's when I really started chatting on the internet.
Also, I find it interesting that Den-Den Mushis can cough blood (top panel).
-
This post is deleted!
-
@Kami: Yeah I saw Robin steering the merry too. Robin was too epic in this chapter.
Wano is a "Zoro" island, so I want to see Zoro having fun with these Samurai. Seeing more epic Zoro techniques will make the next few weeks enjoyable.
-
I'm fine with the OP world having Dragons.
But the Fire-breathing needs to get explained. Not liking Usopp this chapter.
In the Fishman island arc events he seemed alot braver, but now he seems to same old self again, like he was when he joined.
He spend 2 years of training on an island stuggling for survival, and now he hasn't changed a bit (it seems). -

Don't forget that the dragon in The Hobbit talked as well. I was pleased to see the Mini-Merry make a return. It seemed like forever since we last saw it.

I think they were confused by it's ability to talk. Then again, dragons are pretty smart and I've encountered some who talked in video games, cartoons and books. It's not a new thing.
Considering we have a starfish who can talk and that as we know from Chopper pretty much nearly all animals are intelligent enough to communicate I don't really see why. Kinda wierd
Those are all just large animals. A dragon is a dragon. Nothing like any animal. They would be have the same if they saw a Griffon or Cthulhu.
Don't see much of a difference. To me the huge sea kings are far far far more impressive then just a dragon. Hell we also have the Den Den mushi's, we have giant hostile rabbits(which are again kinda more impressive then a griffon)
Not to mention that in Impel Down we had a Sphinx, Manticoras, Basilisk and so on all mythical creatures and yet very much existing
-

I wouldn't call the Kraken "just a large animal".
I've always thought dragons are somewhat similar to lizards.

So… smoker was waiting offshore Raijin island... which is apparently the most dangerous of the three assessible from fishman island... The question is... why the hell were all those slave pirates coming out there?? Did they all really plan to go to Raijin Island??
Since smokers return, I have yet to see him exclaim he is waiting for Luffy to catch and/ or fight him. With Aokiji gone (the admiral smoker was the closest to, speculation based on smoker going to see him for transfer, and Aokiji mentioning something during his fight with Luffy), Akainu becoming fleet admiral (and more importantly, Oda choosing to tell us he became FA when he did...) and him calling Luffy "Luffy" instead of SH, I wouldn't be suprised if Smoker wasn't antagonist anymore...
Zoro not knowing what a Samurai is? Never expected that...
-
By the way, if Boa Hancock was a real person, someone should totally show her the picture of Robin feeding Luffy - how dare you, Robin, stealing Hancock's sexual fantasies and exploiting them on your own?
-
the matter with the dragon is,…. if it's really not a problem for WG or marine they should've get rid of it, cause it seems that it is the cause of the island destruction.
but it's still there (i'm assuming there's only one dragon there).
so it must be a REALLY strong creature. something that marines could not get rid of,.. could one person such as ryuma has the strength to do that??
another chance could be that the marines themselves that destroy the island, coming from the fact that they could penetrate to the winter part of the island, means the dragon mean no harm to them vice versa. So is it some kind of mythical creature that government has and hide it from the public or sth like that? -
I recognise her from the cover where Iceburg was looking for a new secretary…
SPEAKING OF WHICH, I BE HAPPY TO SEE ICEBURG~!
and holy shit TYRANNOSAURUS LOOKS SO DAPPER
[/fangasm]lol I had to find that cover an look again= http://www.mangareader.net/103-2594-1/one-piece/chapter-487.html
What I find funny is that I've not seen anyone mention her pose on 655 is same pose Kalifa used when she was the secretary@Donkey:

Thats a better theory than "its Wano!" This theory is one of teh few I can support
I'd say Nami's cloud-creation works because of better technology, hence why she doesn't use the dials anymore either.
But it's still creating clouds even though it was said to be impossible before. The dial wasn't the problem, where they were was. Probably because of the air. I didn't say it was complete bullshit, but I want Oda to actually explain how that's suddenly possible.
Good points both. The cloud dials didn't work because its lower altitude. I don't think Nami is using dials at all. At Weatheria we see those "wether balls" and NAmi asking if they could be used as weapons. I think her new staff uses the Weatheria tech, esp the weather balls, and not dials.
-
I really wanna see real samurais fighting in one piece.
I mean look how cool Ryuuma looks!
And I think this is a chance for Zoro to fight a real samurai, his fight against Ryuuma was my favorite of all Zoro's fights! -

I believe he got to Raijin Island AFTER he got the slave pirates and became aware Luffy was going to appear. Then he moved on to the path he thought Luffy was most likely to take.
I agree. Though Chopper's case is different.
I believe he is refering to the fact that we saw Chopper talking with other animals and, through that, we saw all those animals have human-like intelect since they can communicate and reason perfectly.
-
I have the poor feeling that Sanji soon will get owned by Smoker… He is on the way and the people which stayed behind should spot him... and I can't see Luffy and him fighting just now.
-
@.access:

Oh, I see. I totally forgot about that.
-
Can't wait to see Zoro taking on some Samurai.
Also luffy needs to learn dragonrend if he plans to fight that dragon.
I have the poor feeling that Sanji soon will get owned by Smoker… He is on the way and the people which stayed behind should spot him... and I can't see Luffy and him fighting just now.
I don't think Smoker would the THAT strong. Luffy had no problem taking on Vice Admirals at marineford before and the biggest problem with fighting him in the past was just his intangibly. Also even Boa kicked him around like he was nothing.

@The:
Only little dissapointement is Usopp. I love the guy, but "come on man" is what I'd like to say to him.
Not liking Usopp this chapter.
In the Fishman island arc events he seemed alot braver, but now he seems to same old self again, like he was when he joined.
He spend 2 years of training on an island stuggling for survival, and now he hasn't changed a bit (it seems).Agreed I loved Usopp before but enjoyed the Mansopp after teh timeskip because it showed that a guy can grow from simple village boy who lies to get a raise out of boring villagers to a novice adventurer thats nervous and lies to a brave warrior of the sea. So far after the the timeskip we've seen him act couragous but have moments of nervous "are you serious? you want to BEFRIEND that giant mosther thats 10x bigger than our ship and destroyed other ships?" at extreme moments but he still did not use the "diseace excuse" in those situations.
I litarally yelled "damn" when I read him using the disease excuse again.
It's even worse on facebook or youtube… I have to wonder how people can be such paint-huffers. Read mangastream's comment section on their facebook chapter releases sometime.
Thats one reason I rarely go to Mangafox's forum. Only whent hings get slow here and I'm really, _really_bored.

Plus we've seen other mythical races, mermaids, sphinxes, cockatrice and kraken. None of them were zoans.
-
So, any speculation on a.) why the island had no field, and b.) what the skull was that was bigger than a giant's? (i.e., Sanjuan Wolf's people?)
-
Why can't there be dragons in One Piece?
If you remember that book with Oda's One shots, that came out a long while back, then you'll remember that story called Monsters. A story about this guy called …RYUMA.....who was a..... SAMURAI.......in the country of.... WANO......who fought against a....DRAGON..... ;) (the few of you who haven't read it, go do it, its a fun read)
This new arc seems to be bringing quite a few elements out of this one shot, into the world of One Piece, and of course we met the body of Ryuma back in Thriller Bark. So honestly? I'm not that surprised to see a Dragon, but i am pretty excited about how this arc will develop. -

I actually can defend this. Sure, Ussop wasn't as much as a coward in the FI arc, but that was just during serious situations or "in a pinch"; like when the rubble from the underwater volcano was about to crush them, when the crew "took over the palace" or during the fight with with Daruma. He's still a coward outside of battle, but during battle he's pretty serious. While before the timeskip he was constantly a coward, now he's only outside of battle. You can't expect him to make a 360 in character, but this is a good compromise. After all, there's still half of the series left, you can't just complete his character development right now.
-
Amazing Chapter smoker is coming Dragons and an island with samurai that has been closed that is basically Japan in the One Piece world love how Oda keeps bringing more and more mythological things and things from the real word into OP it's still a shonen but it has every right not to be compared to it anymore.
-
why does everyone think that this island punk hazard is the wano country, did i miss somewhere in this chapter where they said that, isnt it possible thats its just a single dragon-hunting (possible nakama) samurai.
-
My theory.
Punk Hazard = VegaPunk Hazard. I think the name alone confirms it, as well as that it's seeming like a run-down abandoned lab of sorts.
-
You're unbelievable. They are two completely different words with completely different meanings.
I just skimmed the rest and see how entirely hopeless this conversation with you will be.
you just become more used to it the longer you are in it. Doesn't mean you still aren't hot.
Guess what. This is all I was talking about. I wasn't talking about Luffy evolving his body like a Toriko character so he can handle heavy gravity, extreme heat, not breath white breath in the cold, or developing antibodies for poison. I was talking about Luffy taking the heat like a man with few signs of being uncomfortable. That is all.
And you sir are being an idiot. I have clearly stated in all of my posts about how Luffy was in the heat area for what all of a few hours. And that was years ago. NO WAY would that ever build up a resistance to heat.
And yes resistance and immunity are same damn thing in this case. If someone is able to walk around a freezing cold antarctic in their t-shirt and shorts, they would be considered immune to the cold. Makes more sense saying that than saying they are resistant to the cold.
-
And here I thought luffy got "3d2y" tattooed. Silly me..
-
Is this the first time Robin has seemed surprised? I mean I recal back when first shown Brook and again later when the Kraken and I'm sure other things, but she usually has a stoic face. Now she is surprised in the face of a Dragon. Guess everyone thinks dragons are awesome even robin.
Also hoping the Samurai if in this arc or a later arc are not as worthless and pathetic AND stupid looking at they were in naruto.
-
Oh man i am so excited
this new Island is just awesome
wow i hadnt thought smokers scar would be that big
I am asking me who did that to him
and yeah a Dragon !!!!!!!!
