A new chapter's out, so might as well start up a new thread for another round of intelligent, erudite, and serious Fairy Tail discussion, befitting the serious and enlightened critics that we are.
Fairy Tail Discussion III
-
-
Forgot that there was going to be a new thread.
-
THIS MANGA SUCKS!!!
But seriously, nothing groan-inducing this chapter. It was pretty enjoyable and tense at parts. I even liked the twist of hybrid dragons and how the fact that it looks like the manga will be delving into the relationship between a dragon slayer and his dragon (even if the two new characters are ending up being just another bunch of irredeemable villain bishies).
Let's see how long this keeps up.
-
stop stop stop
A decent Fairy Tail chapter?
What is this, whats happening -
Good chapter overall, the only ehhh moment being the same main characters being the participants…
-
Well, that was good chapter, actually! I really liked the backgrounds this chapter. Looked nice. It's nice to have a confirmation that the "games" aren't just about fighting and who's the strongest, though that can change.
But it's the same team as always in the competition again. Aw. -
I'm having serious problems accepting the "fact" that those 2 killed their dragon parents. Bullshit incoming for sure…
-
I groaned when the Sabertooth dragons claim they are "true" dragon slayers because they slayed their dragon mentors. I have a feeling that it's total BS.
But an interesting chapter. It lacks the quantity of fan-service from other chapters and instead replaces it with characterization.
-
Rogue and Sting aren't exactly villains though.
Its like they're Natsu's rivalsI liked this chapter and lol at the whole sequence with Erza checking out the building.
-
That wasn't too bad. The main character's being picked for the tournament is so stupid though.
-
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/59087367/7 So Laxus, Elfman and co, who all actualy trained for 3 months all get the shaft in favour of the default 5 same people.
….........Sigh.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/59087367/12 My question: why doesn't she participate, instead of Lucy, who'se much less experienced ?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/59087367/13 So Gray is stupid enough to accept a bet where they lose a guild member if they lose, but gain absolutely nothing in return if they win simply because the other guy went "You scared or somethin ?".
Brilliant.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/59087367/16 Ah the emo has arrived. The ratings are once again secued.
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/59087367/18 Should I bother to point out how there hasn't been a single dragon slayer yet who actualy beat a dragon in this whole series by now ?
And why do I think this is all going to get horribly retconned later ?
Overal, not bad, but just the same faults as usual. We once again have the exact same group, with Lucy and Wendy picked over Juvia for reasons I'm still not aware off, and it seems the people who actualy bothered to train were prevented by plot from once again doing anything.
SIGH…....
-
Those two are pinging the bullshit radar pretty high, there. They're just asking for Acnologia to swoop down and trash the place.
Finally, I can genuinely say, without a trace of irony or guilty pleasure-ness. I like the atmosphere of the bustling medieval capital city, and while I'm not counting on it, it would be nice if we actually got some world-building thanks to that. Erza was pretty funny too.
While I don't count on this to last, Mashima at least started the new year off on the right foot.
-
Hmm… I just now noticed that these narrations are basically Lucy writing her book. Bestseller material right here.
-
So let's summarise the message concerning Natsu and co.
Lie, procrastinate, cheat and do drugs and somehow you'll still be ontop of everyone else.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---

It was just an impression I had, but then again, this seems very likely now that you say that. :wassat:

Meh, I found the world building to be pretty unimpressive myself. The castle looks pretty cool but nothing special but what struck me more was how vacant it looked. It's supposed to be a hustling and bustling city but there were barely any people and the only things we saw was your standard market stalls. But whatever, still an okay chapter.
-
Is Juvia really going to leave the guild if Fairy Tail loses?
What's going on with Laxus and Gajeel?
Are Rogue and Sting really all their hyped up to be?
Is Wendy going to be kidnapped by an imp?
Will Erza ever stop playing cards by herself? -
So a new chapter begins, for FT and a discussion thread.
-
You know. I was gettiong worried that some idiot would have merged the new thread in that awful NarutoxBleach thread.

Awful ? :getlost:
-
Yeah. You can read sentences right?
-
I don't care what anyone says, that man can draw. Nice chapter before the tourney.
-
Alzack and Bista's daughter is such a cutie
Good chapter I cannot wait for next weeks chapter, I have a sinking suspicion that their is going to be some kind of teleportation magic insued once the clock strikes 12 sending them all back to their rooms and this will probably happen at a moment when natsu is about to strike either sting or rouge

More Dragon Slayer bullshit creations by Mashima. First he contradicts himself about original Dragon Slayers being better than artificial and vice versa in typical past bland shonen statements during the series, now he creates 2 guys who are a mix of original and artificial, only for Natsu to defeat the strongest of them summoning the ''power of friendship'' or ''the DS who loves his parents are the strongest type''.
.
And nice to see guys like Laxus ou Gajeel training hard for 3 months, but Mashima tries to create some awful excuse to make them out of the way to put the defaut group in it. And by knowing Mashima, he'll bring them back in a awful way during the tournament. -

-
How did they kill their dragons anyway? I mean, take Natsu for example. I don't see how he's supposed to kill Igneel since, you know, his magic shouldn't work on Igneel.
-
Oh and it happens again Mashima shits on the rest of the guild…
-
It is annoying only having the default 5. I'd have at least hoped for gajeel insted of wendy who's weaker than lucy.
However i did like the chapter. Erza was funny as well as the whole leonxjuviaxgrey thing going on -
I didn't dislike it, that was my main complain the usual 5 and I was happy we weren't getting any uncessary fanservice and then boom Erza in the bath, its impossible for him not to draw it.
I liked the cats not so much the dragonslayers lol.
-
Yeah this whole arc smells of "the Big Bad is here, let's cancel the tornament and fight" but hey at least its not going to come out of nowhere.
-
If that happens it'll give chance to the other FT Guild members to jump in and fight. They've been growing stronger for 7 years and they're not even in the default 5. That's a pretty big middle finger to the 2nd class characters.
Even if you consider the fact that those 2nd class characters have been in the tourney before you also have to realize that all of that has been offscreen, which is where Hiro I suppose wants to keep any or all of their character development.
-

No, the 2nd class characters were all frozen and prevented from getting development along with Natsu and co. And after they actulaly get trained, they get turned down in favour of people who'se first logical conclusion for a power boost is "We need drugs !"
You're reffering to the 3rd-4th class background dwelling scum that was beaten up by fodder.

Is this supposed to make sense?
I'm curious because Natsu lost to Cobra and Gazille and Natsu are no where near Laxus in power so I'm wondering where you got the notion that he was contradicting what the manga presented. -
Only because Laxus and Cobra were stronger that Natsu and Gajeel don't prove if artificial are better than original or vice versa. It was Mashima's bullshit to put damn strong characters to trash the protagonist only for be defeated after some lame excuse or asspull.
.
Beside of being taught or receiving lacrima, we don't have diferences about power or something like that. But Mashima always have the chance to mess with these things when trying to do a ''cool moment'', with characters saying something that looks awesome, but contradicts future statements sometimes. -
How i see this Generation Dragonslayer thing:
First Generation : Real Ones
Second Generation : Bullshit Ones
Third Generation : Real Bullshit Ones. -

Ouch.
The 5 that were chosen were Natsu, Erza, Grey, Lucy, and Wendy right? Well, outside their little group (and a few other exceptions) I consider everyone 2nd class characters. 3rd and 4th class characters for me would be actual background people like townsfolk.
-
The logic behind this, according to Mashima, must be: ''If a Dragon Slayer was taught while having lachrima, he would be twice as strong than an original or artificial, resulting in new, powerful DS attacks to keep my ratings high''.
-
Ahahaha…that chapter cracked me up. Lol

Juvia should have been immediately chosen instead of Wendy or Lucy. Sadly, no such luck.
And nice to see Lisanna still has a point in this siries.
-
I heard Lisanna got brought back in the first place because someone on the anime's staff absolutely loved her.
Anyway I suggest you wait ans see right now. Her and Mirajane haven't even shown up yet after their training. -
It makes sense that Wendy was chosen, given that she specializes in buffs and healing (which is supposed to be rare).
Anyway, I'm not that bothered or surprised that these guys are the ones being entered, since it became clear to me long ago that these five (and Gajeel when he's around) are the ones meant to be doing the heavy lifting in the series.
-
I still feel that the author is at his strongest in these kind of chapters. He can draw really nice backgrounds, the atmosphere is allright and the jokes not too bad. All in all a typical beginning-of-the-arc-chapter.
-
Hmm, okay, besides the "WE ARE THIRD GENERATION AND WE KILL DRAGONS YOU DON'T" thing, it was an okay chapter.
-
Expectations: None

A Fairy Tail arc is always with a decent start, but becomes a so bad it's good(or horrible depending on arc) mess by the end of it. I probably dislike the fact that the arcs are never consistent from start to finish about Fairy Tail the most. It has amazing potential, too. A potentially huge world, a potentially huge fleshed-out cast.. and it sometimes shows signs of these, probably why it's so popular and part of why I still read it, but the locales and characters are never truly fleshed out.
-
Man I would have loved that this was a bad chapter….but it wasen't it was ok nothing really to bitch about expect the fact I got to deal with the main cast......which I hate them.

Can someone explain to me why there are like ten people running around with the exact same face and hair as Natsu?

I mean aside from lazy artist syndrome

I think you answered your own question.
-
The chapter was okay, I suppose. My main complaint was how the other characters uncharacteristically failed to show up on time (Gildartz not being there makes sense, but you'd think that, at the very least, Mirajane's group would have been there) and that the guild's group for the tournament is still the main five people (Wendy, I can understand since she's a healer and learned new moves explicitly for this arc, but you'd think that Juvia would be useful for this sort of thing), but beyond that, it was decent. It actually made me want to see the Sabretooth guild beaten, which is better than my burning indifference towards most FT villains. Plus, the bit with Gray, Juvia, and Leon was pretty funny.
As far as Gazille goes, I'm sure he'll play a role in this arc - Raven Tail has only had four members shown so far, not counting Ivan, and if they still believe that Gazille is working for them, then he'll probably participate on their side (until he's forced to choose between them and Fairy Tail, at least).
-
Main 5 as always. Derp.
What I really want to know is if Gray really said what he said here or if it was just Mangastream translating it like WHATEVS?
I mean did Gray really just say "Don't go taking what's mine?!" …About Juvia?Inquiring minds must know!
-
I think he's talking bout the free food.
