I just finished reading the most recent chapters on batoto. Omg I love this series!
I don't think I would have ever thought of reading a manga about food that causes orgasms (relieved that Toriko didn't go that route :blink:) and Ratatouille-esque flashbacks. I think normally I would have been irked by the fan service but it made me reaffirm that I don't mind fan service as long as it's spread out equally among men and women.
The art being really amazeballs is also a huge plus. I actually like the main character too which is a bit rare for me. He's the right amount of confident, skilled and oblivious. He's actually the reverse of the main character in Hell's Kitchen.
When do chapters normally get released?

It's more or less released on a weekly schedule, but the scan group doing this series might still be looking for redrawers/cleaners/typesetters, so the actual release has been fluctuating as of late, but they usually release it within the week.
Normally a trans is out by Wedsnesday/Thraday on mangahelpers and by Friday the full raw is available.

This may be pointless but I kind of hope they decide to give erina some depth sometime in the next 20 something chapters. I mean I had the impression that one main storyline wants to build this kind of interesting rivalry and love/hate relationship between her and soma but for now she is just the bitchy prodigy girl.
It's kind of boring and stereotypical. If her character wants to stand the test of time there should be a chapter at some point that makes us sympathize with her a bit more.I think something involving her and her father, maybe a father complex or something might be the next easiest way to do it.
But whatever I'm probably I bit early with that complaint we're only 20 chapters in. Chapter was fun, but yeah as people may be able to guess from my complaint I wasn't very interested in the erina parts, they seemed redundant, besides some very light fan service and pseudo-cuteness(which I don't really care for) it just hammered the point in again that she's pretty bitchy.

I think it is happening during the next assignment the next day, so she might have either done something or, like Aohige said, the glasses guy might just be an asshole. I like the Doujima guy, he seems to be quite normal besides being a bodybuilder + we get another hint that Souma´s father might be famous in the industry.

As I said in a previous post, I think the chef didn't even taste what she cooked (the way she's holding her plate a few meters from him makes me think that she was just about to present her meal).
So, I think Souma will do something to get her a second chance. But in the end I think and I wish that she will manage to pass the test on her own.

It worked. The food was fine.
! But because she changed the menu to not be the traditional version of the dish, the four-eyes says you're fired. Despite the fact the food tasted great.
Soma steps in, saying if you call yourself an employer, and us the employees, then isn't the fact the ingredients were ruined YOUR responsibility?

Could you put your post in spoilers, please?! On one hand, i think it would be too early to beat such an opponent in a Shokugeki but on the other hand, i guess it depends on the level of the "Elite Ten". If their cooking is somehow better than the cooking of one of the instructors, then i see no problem with Soma humilating that guy.

Obviously with the low rate of graduating members, it's to be assumed most of the graduates held a seat of the 10 during their time in the school. The "10 seats" from say, 5~6 years ago doesn't necessary have to be superior to current 10 seats. And vice versa.
! I don't see a problem with Soma beating this chef, it'll simply put him at the 10 seats level at this point of the story. -

While that is true of course, i was more thinking about the fact that some of the current 10 seats are either in their first (Erika) or in their second year (the guy from teh dorm i think) while the old 10 years have gone through hell in the school for at least 3 years while also accumulating experience, the thing that distinguishes Souma from the rest of his schoolmates. Don´t get me wrong, i would not complain if Soma wins because we could just accept that the current 10 seats are probably superior compared to those of the past, something not uncommon in Shounen anyway, but i am skeptical right now.

His 2nd day test is to create a terrine using his recipe.
This must be done individually without teaming up, and any information exchanged during the cooking is forbidden.
As the students rush to get the ingredients, and since Megumi isn't exactly a go-getter, by the time she manages to get them for herself, only cauliflowers left are partially fermented and old, ruined ones. Megumi realizes if she used these in the shape they're in, it'll ruin the appetizing look of the terrine. She comes up with an idea to boil it in wine vinegar to restore the look, and give the vegetable a sweet and flavorful taste. Meanwhile, Soma passed the exam.
! Shinohara tells Megumi she's fired. When she asks why, he tells her the food tasted good, and the wine vinegar was a very good match for the dish. However, who told you you could change the recipe?
He tells her the food was supposed to be harmonious blend of vegetables, based on his recipe. You made something else, and for that, you're fired.
! Soma steps in and tells him that's unreasonable, the ingredients were ruined, and she simply improvised with what she could.
If you're going to treat us as employees, then as the chief chef, you're responsible for the condition of the ingredients!
! Shinomiya is angered by Soma talking back to him, and tells him he mixed in bad ingredients on purpose. To separate those who cannot tell the difference in the condition of the food, as well as slowpokes.
He tells him a grunt like them have no right to change HIS recipe.
He then threatens Soma with failure if he talks back to him even more.
! Megumi tearfully grabs Soma and tells him to not worry about this, she doesn't want to get him expelled too. Then smiles like an angel.
Soma's face turns into rageface.. then turns calm and cool expression.

! He asks Shinohara if Toutsuki's rule applies to graduated ones.
Shinohara replies asking what he's talking about.
! Shokugeki of course. Soma asks if he beats him in Shokugeki will he take back giving failure to Tadokoro?

Yeah, of course, but their audience now, especially Shokugeki, should still be larger than with their respective hentai projects, so it could be considered a huge career improvement and could pave the way for other hentai artists with similar success to venture into mainstream.

Azuma Kiyohiko, of the hit Azumanga Daioh used to be one.
And obviously we have Oh Great of Tenjo Tenge and Air Gear.The tradition goes back years, they're just the newest in the line.

Hmm…I always forget that Azuma Kiyohiko was a doujin/hentai author back in the day. It isn't nearly as apparent in his mainstream work in comparison to some of the other ones that started in that genre (Tosh, Akamatsu, Hirano, and so on.)

Artist (Inazuma) for High School of the Dead is another hentai artist. Kouta Hirano (Hellsing/Drifters) actually did a doujin on One Piece way back in the day. There will probably be alot more hentai/doujin artists going into the mainstream since Comic Megastore Magazine (500 page hentai mag) is now on indefinite hiatus.

I'm grateful mangapanda/manga stream isn't working on this.
But only naruto/bleach/one piece get special treatment and done by crap groups except mangarule. The rest are worked by different scan groups with different schedules (we still get series like beelzebub and toriko a few days earlier than the official release date), and casanova scans is still relatively new and still looking for redrawers.

! I've read some comments saying the jerk could have a good point about making changes to the recipe if there's some lesson about not making changes to avoid potential food allergies said here and coordinating with your head chef/owner before making changes.
! But clearly the guy is just a jerk that deserves to get humiliated. There should have been enough fresh ingredients for everyone.
! I don't think there'll be a direct shokugeki with the graduate, but I hope whatever competition that is devised humiliates him greatly. Go Soma! -
! That chef is a butt. I get the reasoning that changing the recipe in an actual resturant on the fly without notifying the customer is dangerous. But placing in less than good produce to weed out people is lazy judging in my opinion. She was doomed from the get go. Yay Soma though. I wonder if they'll actually go through with the Shokugeki. It seemed to have strict rule, but I can't see them just allowing it for getting someone to pass through.

The oneshot for soma has been translated, has some typos though.
! It's actually kind of disappointing, to me it really feels like an unrevised version of chapter 1(which I guess is working as intended) instead of just a different version that isn't intended for serialisation, like some other oneshots I've read. So yeah it's kind of pretty inferior.

Hard to recommend in that regards for both fans that currently read and as a way to lure newcomers in order to avoid a bunch of funny scenes in the story. At least Soma's cooking method was original, even if the reaction was a rehash. And it has this lovely scene at the beginning (and I guess this can serve as a link if anyone's still interested in the one shot.
