Agreed, at first i also could not see Jimbe's logic, but after reading through the discussion i realised that it does indeed make sense (whether i agree with it is a another matter):
There are essentially 2 camps of persons: (a) fish-people who support living with humans and (b) fish-people who don't.
Important: We know that not all fishmen support living with humans because of the fact that Hodi is willing to kill all who do. Unless he really wants to just rule a kingdom that's basically his own pirate crew right from the beginning.
By Jimbe's logic:
When a human(does not actually have to be Luffy) beats Hodi, who is a hero to those in camp (b), the result is:
1. Camp (a) will not change their view, or if one insists, may even become impressed by Luffy's heroics
2. Camp (b) will become more enraged at "human interventionists"
3. Essentially this causes a much greater divide among the fishmen, and adds to the cycle of hate that already exists
But when a fishman(Jimbe) beats Hodi,
1. Camp (a) will not change their view
2. Potentially, a few members of Camp (b), especially those who respect Jimbe, might be swayed over to Camp (a). Otherwise, there is also no change to their view.
3. Potentially nothing much changes, only that Jimbe, a hero among the fishmen, makes clear his stance that humans are to be reconciled with.
So in Jimbe's view, the second situation, which does not cause the fish-people from Camp (b) to go down the spiral of hatred once again, is his preferred cause of action. In the first situation of human-beating-Hodi, while it is true that some fish-people might see Luffy as a hero, the converse is true for those who already hate humans and support Hodi.
Luffy, who was sleeping throughout Jimbe's story-telling and how the fishmen have hated humans for essentially causing Fisher Tiger's death, does not give a rat's @ss and just wants to save his nakama.
Makes sense up to this point.
What i'm wondering is, isn't Luffy basically saving their King along the way? Unless fish-people from camp (b) already hate King Neptune, but i should hardly think that just because you hate fishmen means you automatically hate your King too.
Ultimately though, Jimbe recognises that the lack of change in the nuances of the fish-people is better than having their emotions swing in any direction, which may then potentially cause another spiral of hate. So probably his cause of action might still be the wiser choice. But I say, how can Fishmen Island change if one does not take gambles like these from time to time? Luffy's heroics might cause adverse reaction, or it might also cause a beneficial change in the mindset of fishmen!
Indeed a very complicated political situation we have here. Racism sucks.
Why are people underestmating jimbei the way i see it he should still have the upper hand not only is he a shichbukai he was equal to ace on land.
God please stop whining about Zoro being captured… Luffy was captured by fodder citizens and thrown into ropes which he hasn't broken alone...
It is just for the plot for god's sake
Fusion-Ha aside, wouldn't Luffy and Jinbe just knocking out Hordy together be a prime testament to fishman/human cooperation?
Oddly enough, its Luffy's logic not jinbe's that I did not understand here. This is chiefly because Luffy never applies logic in these situations, all he would need to do is tag along with Jinbe and let him take care of Hordy and things would all be fine. You can not forget how most fishmen think the strawhats are capturing their mermaids and selling them to slavery, even if they do save the day, the people will automatically think that Luffy only did it to save Zoro and co, nothing would be accomplished.
Well this is how I see it, you can not forget how stupid regular people in the one piece world tend to be, the recent strawhat reunion arc comes to mind where people completely believed that a huge brute was Luffy. I do not see any reason why they wouldnt find a way to hate luffy if he saved the day, especially with this prophecy around.

Lmao you fail at life..how could you possibly think there is going to be any other ending other than the creation of lufbei…
Where's Usopp's facial hair in the color spread?
I think it's just lower down (hidden by his fingers) - he hasn't got that much, after all. XP
And I LOVE these color splashes recently. I was really surprised by Chopper's image - it's somehow still adorable, yet finally gives him an "older" look under some Human standards. I can't wait to see it in action!
But outside of my squee for that, the chapter was fabulous! Now we're really getting into it for what's going down while additionally having some outlying factors (Hello Robin) that are sure to keep us guessing about what will really be happening. So excited!
I did feel that the sudden confrontation at the end was… well, sudden. Like maybe Oda ran out of panels for the chapter or something. Luffy going straight from "LET'S GO!" to "Stop me if you can!" with Jinbe felt kind of wrong - I would have thought Jinbe would be the first to say he'd stop him. I dunno, maybe it's just Luffy's new, rasher way of refusing to let his friends/family down but yeah...
Joy boy…..
That is just wrong.
Great chapter though.
So Robin can finally sprout an entire clone of herself~~
So Robin can finally sprout an entire clone of herself~~
That's exactly what I thought too. Gonna be epic if it's true.
Lmao you fail at life..how could you possibly think there is going to be any other ending other than the creation of lufbei…
No no, wait… Jinbe as the Straw Hat Combo Robot's shield!
only thing i will dislike is if luffy and jimbei do fight with everything they have and luffy wins relatively quick
i mean ace and jimbei a couple years BEFORE Ace was killed fought jimbei for like 2-3 days straight.
I would like to think that Luffy is NOW as strong as Ace was when he died at best.
Loving this chapter. Hodi is proving himself to be a smart villain. Using the signatures to hunt people down? I didn't see that coming. Actually attempting to kill the king? Whooboy.
Hrmm…Joy Boy made me think of the Jolly Roger lol.
They have 3 hours, plenty of time lol
Speaking of fusion Usopp became Robsopp (Robin-Usopp)
like the chapter like the spread even more
i guess sanji with help of the princess will free up Zoro or confront hodi
while luffy fights jimbei for 5 days lol jk
@Sonic:

Interesting, but still risky as any injuries to her 'arm sprouts' (?) affect her too don't they? Must take a heckuvalot of concentration!
Also, who says Jinbe just sat on his ass these last two years twiddling his thumbs ( Does jinbe have thumbs?). This is two epic of a battle to have when they have a greater goal to accomplish.
Finished reading. Thoughts"
-Awesome colorspread. Well, it is generic and action oriented, but it's good teasing fan-service.
-Ussop's Robin impersonation had me rolling. I never knew he himself had developed Luffy's mad comedic skills. Good one! Hahahah!
-"Is it because we are human?" Hahahah! Good pun.
-I still hold my belief that Hodi killed Otohime or atleast was involved.
-I don't think Jim and Luffy's dispute would last very long. Nami would probably convince him otherwise.
-Joy Boy. What? Another mystery to be solved.
-Overall, the art was really good this chapter.
and jimbei is an idiot
lets see a FISHMAN is holding their OWN kind and humans hostage. he is killing humans AND FISHMAN, yet jimbei thinks that HE needs to save his people
If jimbei saves his people it gives them the impression STILL that they need to look out for themselves and humans won't ever help them
if luffy saves his people, then they see that some humans DO care about fishman.
seriously jimbei, your stupid
Loved Luffy's high five to Sanji. Most importantly though Luffy took an actual interest in the people of the island and not just the crew.

Oh noes we have the same avatar lol.
I kinda doubt they'd let Shirahoshi get near the castle if VDD is still lurking like they mentioned. I forgot who said it but maybe Jinbe and Luffy won't fight. Nami will knock their heads together and they'll come up with a better plan.
Damnit Brook, when will you finally stop being useless? >_o
The real important battle: Sanji vs Decken. Why didn't I see it before?

What… did you not pay attention to the whole thread so far... Jinbe definitely has his reasons. My boy Archtyrant did a good summary of the situation at the top of this page.... Jinbe is definitely not an idiot lol.
Excellent chapter. Finally the real action is gonna start. I do hope they go back to Robin & the poneglyph - i wanna know more about what she has read, and who this "joy boy" or w.e is…
- So yeah the bounty increase is official, yay for Luffy!
What ? It's been stated and shown to us several times before.
Most importantly though Luffy took an actual interest in the people of the island and not just the crew.
I know right it just hit me on my second reading of the chapter.
Shift: Ah lol that's more like him.
Loved Luffy's high five to Sanji. Most importantly though Luffy took an actual interest in the people of the island and not just the crew.
According to Aohige's translation, no, Luffy was just worried about his crew.

apparently not as stupid as you are
Speaking of bounty 400 is a little weak don't you think…. For someone who had 300 after Enies Lobby think of all the shit he's done lol. He beat Moria, He destroyed a CD, he was a mojor player in the battle of the best and they know he has the king's haki. Im expecting a bounty raise soon now that they know he and the crew are back together. The only thing is we've never seen a bigger bounty than luffy so I don't really have anything to compare it too.
I wonder who this "Joy Boy" is it doesn't scream Gol D. Roger to me

and after that comment, you're stupid. the point isn't that the majority will like humans. the point is the minority that will HATE humans. logic runs low for some people.
What's so strange about Luffy finding an interest in the people of fishman island? They were going to be killed, even though they didn't do anything.
And am I the only one who thought Joy Boy sounds awesome? Sounds like a character from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
So I havent seen anyone say this yet. But doesnt a potential Luffy vs Jinbei fight make Jinbei for next nakama less likely? When important things happen Luffy listens to his crew and friends. Yet here he is facing off agasint Jinbe and basically saying his crew is more important than anything jinbei thinks. I would think if Luffy saw Jinbei as a potential nakama he would listen more. Also, Jinbei doesnt seem to be the type to listen to Luffy as a captain. You dont challenge your friend and potential captain to a fight in this situation.

I'll get back to you on that when we can see what Jinbei says next
It doesn't make it that much less likely as beating up one of his crew members - which Franky did and he still got in.
I'll get back to you on that when we can see what Jinbei says next
Yea its all dependant on what happens next. Those might have just been bluffing big words from luffy or Jinbei. But assuming they fight or even attempt to fight but are stopped by Nami or Sanji or someone doesnt that make my previous statement more vaild?
@ Reyairia Franky was a stranger with unknown motivations. Jinbei is Luffys friend and a good friend to Ace. Completely different.

Search for "Tascon's list".
We have a mechanism to revoke leaders, with the collection of signatures, the last time that we tried to excercise it, the first and only one, the goverment managed to get ahold of all the signatures, and the state banks and mechanism stoped helping those people, and no one who signed was allowed to get a public job and in some cases passports and dolars.
So, I hate Hodi now, and I'm happy that tascon is dead now.

It all depends on next week in my opinion. In my opinion Jinbe has started to act a lot more like one of the strawhats. His eyes poped out when he saw the princess. He's not as stone faced. Idk if anything I kinda see it as the chance for luffy to show Jinbe exactly the strength of his character by helping out his people. And let's not forget it wouldn't be the first time Luffy fights someone who later joins the crew.
According to Aohige's translation, no, Luffy was just worried about his crew.
Blasted Mangastream, I thought there was a slight change in Luffy. Still good to know he did not mention anyone other than the crew.
@ Reyairia Franky was a stranger with unknown motivations. Jinbei is Luffys friend and a good friend to Ace. Completely different.
If anything, that proves my point even more so.
Hahaha, Robin's impersonation, that was good XD
This colour spread was awesome. And I don't know if it's just me, but from what I can say, Zoro's eye is open and red (pretty much matching the skull behind him).
Chapter left nothing to be desired.
Great chapter.
This Joy Boy character (didn't think they'd have names like that 800-900 years ago lol) might fit into the plot for Fishman Island, as well as for the main Void Century plot. The two poneglyph's we've seen so far have been related to the island they are located on, because they were protected by its residents. The Merman/ Fishman race have most likely been apart from the humans for many years… I wonder if this apology letter has any significance to the hatred of humans from fishman and vise versa. Oda is making this plot a lot less linear than he has with others... kind've reminds me of Skypiea - how the fuck is Oda gonna make shit happen. In this case, who will fight who, how "Fishman Island will be destroyed" and how the SHs will play a part in the Fishmen/ Mermen ending their feud with humans (as that's the likely ending).
LOL at Usopp's Robin... and Chopper and Franky on being human lol.
finally things are starting to heat up. awweee yeah.
Jinbei is about to get his ass kicked. me thinks.

Remember roger wrote on one before, so the letter could be just as old as when roger wrote what he did in skypiea.
But Joy Boy does indeed interest me.
acording to the color spread sanji will never run out of light for his cigars anymore

His eye is not open.
See? the scar keeps going up.
people still using Nakama…
Why?
anyway, I loved this chapter. That emotion change with Luffy was hilariously quick though.
I'm enjoying the fact that Usopp, Zoro, and Brooke are so used to being in danger that their calm about it.
Usopp especially.
The only problem I see, is there's really no way to end the human hatred even if Jimbe goes. The people who like Hodi will just see him as a traitor, either way, I see them just getting angrier.
Also, not to sound like a perv, but is Nami not wearing underwear in that colorspread? Her V line is showing…
