Glad to see those worthless WB pirates dying. I always wondered why they make such a big deal about having King's haki. Any high ranking officer or "legend" seems to have it.

Maybe exactly because, like you say, powerful people have it?
-
Good Episode. I only wish it ended on the burst of Haki and stopping the guards. With a couple of reactions and a shot with Ivan x Luffy running just feels incomplete.
-
-Nice filler with MR 3 again
-What the hell was with Luffy passing through a lot of Marines, all of them simply standing there, that was awful.
-The scene were Luffy battled 2 marines while the thousands surrounding them were looking was also stupid, although less
-A scene with all the Marines attacking Luffy, awesome.
-Nevermind, some of them got destroyed with Ivankok and the others just stood there.
-I don't like the fact Coby is now running to Luffy, in the manga, Coby was fighting with other people and saw Luffy by coincidence and had to fought with him.
-The awesome music made the flashback 100% more awesome.
-lol, smoke so that the marines don't get drawn out.
-BANG, awesome punch.
-Coby still thinking after that? Come on, Toei
-The scene with Coby was pretty awesome, overall, though, even with some stills and flashbacks, thumbs up, could have been far better, but pretty good.
-lol, Hancock flashbacks, meh, a little fillery, but whatever, mildly funny and nice kick.
-Pretty awesome scene where Marco and Joz are owned.
-Jimbei losing to some chain Marines? How pathetic, lol, he was also pretty hilarious when stuck, Toei is making a joke out of Jimbei time and time again.
-wOW, SO MUCH SMOKE
-LOL at the people getting slashed like that, the scene overall was insanely cool, what with thousands of marines in the air, but seriously, slashes don't work like that.
-Sengoku's screams never look like he's actually screaming to a lot of people, he looks like he's mumbling to himself.
-Toei, if you don't want to show bloody wounds, you can just not show them from so close.
-Filler speech from Whitebeard, but pretty good, I liked it.
-Jimbei took this long to destroy those chains? lol, I guess it makes sense, whitebeard told them not to advance.
-More Squard filler? Meh, fine.
-Awesome Haki scene, although I don't believe Mr 3 would go that far with the sword, derp.
-Jesus, did Luffy really knock out those many marines? As far as I know, he only took out some, here, he took every single Marine ever, are you telling me there are few Marines of the Marine Force that are able to survive Luffy's haki blast at this point of the story? I don't buy it.
-Akainu looked pretty pimp there, though.
-LOL at Ivankok behind Luffy.Bad episode overall, as usual, some scenes are extremely awesome while the rest is pretty bad. And even the awesome scenes have some small nitpicks in them.
-
I mock and laugh at Toei for a lot of stupid stuff, but I won't blame them if they don't make Whitebeard have the same damage he has on the manga by the end of the war.
Oda had clever points of view to hide it, and even then, he "censored" it
It will be nightmarish for Toei to hide it, unless they also censor it up, which will undoubtly look kinda ridiculous.
I think they should just minimize the size of the wound -
-Nice filler with MR 3 again
Woah was Mr. 3 even in this episode? haha I honestly don't remember
-
The scene where WB sent all those marines flying…wow...epic.
-
episode rawked. and finally a decent shirohige smash.
-

No one has died yet. If a weakling like Buggy can survive being Frozen for a period of time, then it should be no problem for a powerhouse like Joz to be perfectly fine….
What high rankin officor has been shown to have it? Rayleigh & Shanks, Hancock, Luffy thats like what 4 people? Yeah tons of people got do0n't they

I have a new wallpaper:
!
I love that scene…
Only thing that's odd: it really looks like the spiderarms come out from his hair.
You know what, it's still awesome. -
Gotta admit….Onigumo looks like a real badass in that.
-
Well, I seriously hate all this stretching crap and adding new shit that we had not previously seen in the manga. They didn't pull this with most of the other great arcs so why now? Whitebeard keeling over seriously took away from my image of him as a monster, and the haki shout looked like crap. This is like watching my favorite book being made into a crappy movie where they add new shit that takes away from your original impression.

Well most of the chapters in the war were about 4 pages less than usual…

what's with all the bitching about this ep?

Hey here's a suggestion.
Stop watching something you don't like.
Yeah I know this is mindblowing news to you, but at least try thinking about it.

It's harder than you think. I have a one piece addiction so I always end up watching the episode and getting terribly disappointed. I usually have to rewatch the enies lobby arc to cheer myself up. Watching a good Luffy vs Lucchi amv helps too.

If you go through withdrawal, just read the damn manga.

@Cyan:
He's an old man.
Besides, he hasn't gone into full overdrive yet.
And that is the animator's BS logic.
In the manga the only thing that phased him was his heart attack. Everything single other attack he took without the slightest sign of fatigue or pain. He only took a breather when stopping Squado's ship.
Doesn't ruin the episode as it is still pretty good. Just underwhelmed from some extremely epic scenes in the Manga.
-
You make up from watching these episodes… by watching animated Enies Lobby...

Why is everyone saying this? I'm normally not this confused about fan reactions. Here are a few panels from the chapter this episode was about.
The anime seems to have portrayed it pretty well to me. This IS Whitebeard's chapter of weakness.

Most of the other arcs weren't changed much from the manga version and they stuck with the standard fillers afterward if they were too close. I'm guessing there's not much room for fillers after the war since there is the time skip so they're doing their best to stretch it without mangling it too much.
Only problem is I can't really appreciate their effort because they have no problem with making luffy look like crap but they absolutely feel like they must make Akainu look badass. Not that I have a problem with Akainu looking badass, but I have some vindictive feelings towards him for some reason >.>
-
Great episode I love the scene where WB says that these petty attacks won't kill me then he goes ballistic.

You watch Enies Lobby to cheer yourself up, considering that it was stretched even more than the War
I don't even know where to begin with whats wrong with this
Although Impel Down was the worst in how it was handled
A pretty epic arc in the manga turns to shit in the anime
What happened Toei, you used to understand how to pace One Piece properly and make it shine
Now it's like you have no idea what to do with it -
The episode was good.
What is the music that plays when Whitebeard rises out of the smoke, and also the music that plays when he is talking about giving his sons a bright future before dying? I think the latter was also played right before he jumped off the Moby Dick to attack in an earlier episode.
And Urogue is correct when replying to all the comments complaining how Whitebeard appeared as an old man that couldn't stop Ace from being executed. He COULDN'T stop them in the manga. He was clearly weakened at that moment. Just look at the panel Urogue posted above.
-
I have to agree with previous comments that some moments felt underwhelming. Censorship may have a role but it is rather directing.
I have watched Zoro vs Mihawk. The direction was outstanding and the emotion was here. It was as epic as the manga or even more.
-
i search an HD-RAW file from episode 478… wihtout subs....

The anime seems to have portrayed it pretty well to me. This IS Whitebeard's chapter of weakness.
Actually never noticed the tiny little panel where he coughs before he can save Ace. He still didn't hesitate owning marines that hurt him, didn't budge when they initially hit him, and I never got the impression he was struggling to talk when discussing what happens when he dies. Also kinda sucked with how long his bisento sweep took. That is the only trans that I've read that makes it seem like he was taking breathers mid-sentence. Weakness? With a title like Monster I always felt it was the chapter showing us his Juggernaut status….though again never noticed the coughing panel when saving Ace.

well it looks like you found yourself a solution already

This was a common screwup when the chapter came out, but Aohige showed us the light:
@Aohige_AP:Whitebeard's line when Ace was about to get executed was "Useless!! You think I can't stop you from…. GAH!!"
He was about to stop them from killing Ace, but his damage kicked in right at that moment, robbing him of strength to do so.He still didn't hesitate owning marines that hurt him, didn't budge when they initially hit him, and I never got the impression he was struggling to talk when discussing what happens when he dies. Also kinda sucked with how long his bisento sweep took. That is the only trans that I've read that makes it seem like he was taking breathers mid-sentence. Weakness? Ok, he didn't hesitate in the chapter, but I don't think he hesitated in owning marines in the episode either. Also, he DID budge when they initially hit him. One panel (which I posted) shows him down on a knee after Akainu punched him. In the next panel he's being swarmed by marines and is shown standing straight up, and in the following panel he's leaning forward again. It would appear to me that he got pushed backwards a bit in the manga as well. It's subject to a bit of interpretation, but that's hardly the anime's fault.
As for the middle panel, which shows a part of the speech, the trans isn't the point at all. Look at Whitebeard in that panel. He's clearly struggling. I don't even know how it's up for interpretation.
As for the weakness thing and the chapter title, his heart problems began bothering him at the end of the previous chapter. His heart problems are still bothering him at the end of this chapter. Logic would then tell me that his disease caused him to suffer through the entire chapter. This is the time in the arc when Oda decided to make a point of his illness (weakness). The chapter title, "Monster," is because in spite of everything that's happening to him, he doesn't even begin to back down, and instead simply counterattacks fiercely, changing the tone from what appears to be a total defeat. Not backing down and not getting pushed back are two entirely different things.

just now noticed that jozu being frozen was also edited , unlike the manga you don't see his arm break off from the rest of his body.
also just now clearly saw that whitebeard getting stabbed/shot DID have atleast some blood , from watching from keyhole it really appeared they showed this scene from a side angle instead of from the front , but they actually did show it briefly from the front…
the only thing bad about this ep. would be the blood editing,
but that's prob. the least annoying editing they can do , so it's all good for now.really wonder if it will stay like this though...
-
At the risk of repeating myself, look closer. Jozu's arm indeed broke off.

i see , they covered the part where it breaks with smoke..
-
Loved the part where Luffy used Haki :).

made it myself.

Lol, nicely done, hahah.
-
I just saw some of this episode. I'm not gonna lie, that Hancock filler was hilarious. Maybe I should start watching the anime again…
-
Just saw the episode and I must say it was another very good one. I can't remember the last time the Anime had a poor episode. Whitebeard's "Monster" moment was epic and I am surprised that Toei didn't edit the gaping hole in WB's chest.
-
my new wallpaper.
-
Coby will probably grow to have Haōshoku Haki. He has ambition, and can collect his feelings.
-
Ok so I'm finally all caught up, this episode was awesome, so far the War has been insane. Poor Luffy is still not use to all the crazyness LOL, see his face when WhiteBeard nearly turned the land upside down? Heck I was in shockXD I LOL'd when Hancock got ticked when it wasn't Luffy who wasn't saying her name, wow don't mess with her. Over all fun episode, its been a fun arc really, I can't wait for the gang to get back together though, I, miss them.
edit;
By the way I didn't even notice Luffy and Coby fighting, it was too short.
