@cooldud_21:
What you say is true and I think this exact fact illustrates the power of logic perfectly. Logic, as I said earlier, is just a set of rules operating on the axioms. The axioms are not inherent to logic, but to the particular scenario involved. In the scenario of scientific thought, those axioms and the logical system built on top of them, is stuff that is supported by what we observe. People use their own axioms and come up with theories but the one that stands is the one which agrees the most with observed data. Case in point.
There is nothing arbitrary about it. If your axioms do not agree with what you or I can see, then your theory doesn't hold. It might be the most logical one in the world, but it doesn't hold. Simple.
I can have epistemological problem with it. Observation data may come from observers themselves not from world outside or at least it can be influence (unconsciously) by observers to match that they believe to be true. Or it can be influence by the fact that the machines collecting data are build based formerly taken principles.
Correct me if I'm wrong but there are a few functional systems of logic (not reducing to one another) that are being use to resolve different problems.
@Foxy:
Maybe you should look at your signature…
Oh God (I realize the irony of using that phrase), this gets better and better.
Okay, I have to introduce you to another literary device. Foxy, meet Exaggeration. Exaggeration, please meet Foxy. I'm pretty sure he's a troll, so don't mind him being a dick about absolutely everything.
Foxy, the picture in my signature is of a certain Sachin Tendulkar, an Indian cricketer. This should explain the rest.
I think people are mistaking me for a hardcore Atheist. I think there is an "Entity" that holds the universe together. Call it God or whatever but I'm not sure what it would be. But it certainly does not interfere in human affairs.
I am not trying to be a dick, but Christianity is most likely derived from Mithraism and Mesopotamian Religions.
Edit: Just because someone disagrees with you does not make them a troll. If you think that way, you are the troll.
I'm just thought everyone should know… I'm God.
Well, we've been talking about religion this whole time, so I don't know what you've been thinking we've been discussing.
Unfortunately I have to take off and go to work… this has been fun everyone. I'll be back later.
oh sorry I just didn't thing that trying to disprove some statement's about science logic and rationality would enroll me automatically into discussion about religion. I've made a digression towards religion, so I see why you think I'm trying to go into it. I have no prove for religion's epistemological or even ethical supremacy over other world vies, but I don't believe other world views has that supremacy over religion either and I was trying to disprove such claims.

I don't think you're trolling because we happen to disagree. It's because:

Unconscious observation bias is a probabilistic event, and can be taken cared of by performing many independent experiments.
Or it can be influence by the fact that the machines collecting data are build based formerly taken principles.
The machines usually work on Newton's (the mechanical bits) and Maxwell's (for the electromagnetic bits) laws, the validity of whose in the macroscopic scale is not under investigation. At least not in the experiments today. They were experimented in the eighteenth (Newton) and nineteenth (Maxwell) century respectively.
Correct me if I'm wrong but there are a few functional systems of logic (not reducing to one another) that are being use to resolve different problems.
Correct, so each of their validity is tested separately.

Dear Troll, his complete quote was:@Supernova122:
Amazingly, I have more respect for the authority of the God I believe in to tell me how to follow my religion than I do in you to provide correct information about the Cult of Mithras.
Which means that he would trust the possibly fictional voice of God more than he would your shoddy attempt at proving Jesus = Mithras. And based on what you've written here, I'm inclined to agree with him.

Why do you insist on labeling me a "troll"? You don't seem to understand what a troll is.
Edit: I provided a source, but you guys refused to believe it because it made you look incorrect.

I outlined my reasons above. This discussion is enough off-topic as it is. I'm done talking to you. You win, please accept your crown.

trying to negate this would need to include making some hypothetical assumptions about observers and presupposed nature of observed phenomenon. I would be to have for anyone to read and I'd probably been lost in it. I still have my doubts about it thought.
I could start questioning Newton laws and Maxwell laws, but it would be very stupid of me to go into this with my feeble high school knowledge of mechanics and electromagnetism. So I'm out of option here. Of course I can say that maybe in two centuries science will call those laws rubbish - but that is not very likely. Of course they are laws and laws are constructs and they have been tested in times, where laws weren't seen as constructs, but actually describing reality how it is. But that's to little for me to go in discussion about their potential inadequacy, because even if my claim about inadequacy of laws is a valid one, those particular ones may as well not be cover by this - so yeah, too many modals - I'll get lost if I try to add another sentence.
But since I'm not a physicist I'm only left with possibility of believing or not-believing in what physicists say about those laws, as I have no possibility to test it myself.
so I'll better live it at that, because I'm out of arguments I'm able to convey, especially in foreign language.
I'm taking wild guess that you are doing something involving mathematical sciences or you are a hobbyist.

–> you claimed it was ridiculous for me to ask you for evidence about the Mithras thing (which you never provided much of) while being religious
--> I pointed out that being part of a religion means you have a belief in God, and that God has revealed to you (as in, all humanity) how to practise your religion. Because I have the respect for God to believe all of that, I do. I obviously do not have the same level of belief in something you say that is sounds very unlikely.
that's probably slightly incoherent but I just got up and have to go to school so idk :S
best idea is to just drop this. It's not exactly a heated argument but it's pretty much going nowhere. These kinds of religious debates tend to do so.

Damn, everyone was being all atheisty and I wasn't invited

Turks are one thing, because everyone in the Balkans hates everyone else (not that that's good mind you). But wtf is with hating Jews?
What's wrong with Jeff Goldblum?

All the famous Jews post WW2 are American, Israel just has politicians, Real Zion over up here.

More like a fairly decent 3 or 4 people.
Hey guys. I figured as much that this thread might be helpful.
You see I've been dealing with alot of stress, especially from mid-terms concerning my grades and getting into college. I've realized from my dad that I've been taking too much medication at once, causing me to feel crashy, jittery and depressed at times. The list includes 5 mm Prozac, Prilosec, Vitamin D, an Acne Pill product (it's name has escaped me), Alka-Seltzer daytime, Chest Congestion pills and Tylenol at times, many at once. Dad came up with a plan last night (24 hrs ago) that I stop taking all medication besides Prilosec and prozac, and my jittering's stopped. I still felt exhausted and somewhat depressed instead of bored around 4 pm EST today, so I'm wondering how long it'll take for my over-medication from Sunday night beforehand to wear off?

I wouldn't take any meds, they always lead to more problems.
But what is your condition?
@Foxy:
I wouldn't take any meds, they always lead to more problems.
But what is your condition?
Every late afternoon for the last few weeks I've felt jittery, aching in the neck, joints and stomach, I feel tense at times, depressed on my outlook of things, at the same time as feeling exhausted, moody and somewhat paranoid. I suppose it's a mixture of PTSD and over-medication crash at the same time, after doing alot of physical and mental exercise earlier in the day (and even on the quiet weekends too!) Then I re-surge however so (may it be through inspiration, having dinner, getting stuff done, etc.) during the evening, and especially for last night and tonight, things seem calmer inside my head, but not out of the ballpark just yet. That is my condition.
Don't take the medication that's been prescribed to you has to be in the top 10's of bad advice to give people
This whole time I thought the song "Call Me Maybe" was sung by Taylor Swift. Each time I've heard the song on a commercial I just kept imaging that such a song would warrent a music video of Taylor Swift prancing around in a mall being a "trouble maker" while face palming numerous guys away from her path as if she were some sort of running back.
You didn't say whether your meds are prescribed by a doctor or not. I want to assume they are, because otherwise taking so many based on your own or a layperson's judgment is really not the best idea to begin with. If they aren't, see a doctor and detail your condition so that he/she can help you figure out the best way to get you back to normal functioning. If they are prescribed, I'd suggest seeing your doctor to ask if all those meds are really necessary and explain the side-effects you've been having. Work out a proper treatment plan with him/her. I'm not sure what your problems are but there has to be a reason why he/she would prescribe you meds. Give him/her feedback so that he/she can refine your treatment plan.

wow, that's one of the dumbest things I heard in my entire life, plain and simple. You are sure one awful user Foxy the Silver Fox, did anyone tell you that yet?
That's my confession.
@Foxy:

The problem with this statement is the words: ANY and ALWAYS.
No…no all meds don't ALWAYS lead to problems. What an absurdly foolish thing to say. What meds have you been fed to be convinced of such a silly idea?
If you have been prescribed meds and they are causing problems: consult your physician. If you are taking over the counter medication and they are causing problems: stop taking them and contact your physician for a recommendation. Pretty simple.

Consult a doctor, not a forum. Seriously.
@Foxy:

looks like you need some with this kind of logic.
I don't talk to my neighbors, I don't know any of them. Is that strange?
Not really no. I make the mandatory small talk if we meet in the hallway but other than that i've got no relation with the other tenants
I don't talk to my neighbors, I don't know any of them. Is that strange?
it won't look good if you ever get arrested. They will smack talk you into being the creepy quiet loner type that must have been up to something sinister. Or at least that's what American movies has taught me lol
I don't talk to my neighbors, I don't know any of them. Is that strange?
Not at all. You have no obligation to socialize with the people that live next to you.
You might get some bad labels, but that mostly depends on the kind of neighbors you have.
Not talking to neighbors is perfectly normal around here lol.
Of course so is talking to neighbors as well.
No kingz no rulez.

Actually Foxy has a point. I have a relative who takes meds, and over the years it's only led to taking more and more and more meds. Are you guys unaware of the corruption that exist in the Pharmaceutical industry?
On a side note: This confession Session has derailed so badly
