I'll play the shit out of Captain Toad… in January, when I finally get my Wii U. I hate how setting up your own company works in my country - it has to be running for six months before I can get a credit and gorgle up a Wii U with 10 games or something.

Ness gets a kart based on the Phase Distorerter while Lucas rides the Mr. Saturn Coffee Table.

I got a Wiiu last week. I did a shit ton of Freelance and came out so far ahead that I said fuck it. Let's do this. I got the SM3DWorld Bundle so I have SM3DWorld, Nintendoland, and Duck Tales. Because Duck Tales was only 20 dollars more lol.
I've beat Duck Tales, and currently World 4 into Super Mario 3D World. I don't really count Nintendo land as a game…Captain Toad in 3D World is a lot of fun. It feels really fresh and its sad its gonna do super poorly because of how its being released. It would've made a better eshop game. Speaking of which I need to get Shovel Knight again for the Wiiu; already beat it on the 3DS but I heard there's more content coming.
Games I'm interested in if I can find a deal;
Mario Kart 8
Bayonetta 2
Scribblenuats (Its like 15 now.)
Smash Bros
Captain ToadThough Smash is kind of on the last of the list because the 3DS version both curved my need for Smash and killed the hype. So rushed.

Their logic being "We're not repairing/replacing systems that were damaged after being dropped by mistake/kids/idiots." Understandable… if my hinge had snapped off or even cracked because of that reason, but that's not what happened. What's worse is that my first DS Lite suffered from this same issue, and I eventually had to replace it after the top screen stopped functioning. Nintendo needs to fix the shitty hinges on their handhelds...
to be fair, there's no way you can prove it broke from normal use, rather than dropping it like a baby. it sucks, but if I was Nintendo I wouldn't want to deal with all the people who drop it down a flight of stairs and then call up saying "I just turned it on like normal and the screen cracked and the buttons fell out!!!" either.
though I agree - nintendo should really find another nintendium deposit because those hinges are bootysweat.
-
At the very least, they should sell replacement parts on their website. Of course, I know they won't, since then they can't gouge people for repair costs. It's fine, I took my XL apart today and super glued the hinge back together and moved the hinge pin enough so that it works, but doesn't click, which should hopefully keep the glued hinge together. I'll also be ordering a replacement part off eBay soon, so this is just a stopgap, since not being able to play my 3DS sucks.
Here's how fucked up the hinge got, by the way:
From just opening and closing the thing! Ridiculous…

How did it break? I mean specifically. Did you try opening it one day and then it snapped off exactly like that? Did it feel like it was giving in the days leading up to the break? Any noticeable defects? I'm trying to wrap my head around the mode of failure. That's a pretty strange-loking break.
-
First, it cracked at the top of the hinge, then the crack spread and the piece to the right snapped off. After that, it cracked near the wi-fi switch, and that crack spread further until it went completely, at which point the thing popped off. The third piece is from near the R button, which snapped off after I tried to super glue the hinge back on the first time.
Also, turns out the hinge pin needs to be in all the way, or you can't get the faceplate back on the top screen. I did that, and the super glued hinge fell apart again upon opening the damn thing. So much for the stopgap! Fuck…
-
Hi, I'm having problems with my Nintendo club account and I'm not getting any response from the support team! I signed up for an account but then I can't log on, despite activating my email address and obviously using the correct password. I requested to be re-sent a new password and never got one. Does anyone know what the hell is going on or how I can get them to help me?
-
Guys I am at an impasse.
I came into some extra money, $80, and my thought is to preorder and pay off Omega Ruby (~$43 after taxes), and use the rest to preorder Bayonetta 2 and put some money on that. BUT with this Hyrule Warriors update….I want some eShop money too! But Bayonetta 2 launches in a week, and I heard there's gonna be limited copies. But....if I pay off Pokemon, I'll only have to worry about Smash U for the whole month of November....
argh. >_>

Just get really rich.

It cracked on the right first? Wouldn't have expected that, since I would figure the stresses concentrated around the hinge's connection on the left, unless I'm interpreting that incorrectly. The whole thing just looks really wonky and more like the result of a strange defect than a design flaw or mishandling.

The right hinge is actually the one that takes all of the stress from opening and closing, because it's the only side with a hinge pin. The left is used to run the wi-fi cable and the ribbon cables for the the motherboard and screens. I'd say it's definitely a design flaw to only have one side taking the stress, especially when the plastic piece that holds the hinge pin in place isn't attached to anything. I've seen a few other XL's online in the same condition as mine, so it definitely wasn't a smart design choice.
I'm hoping someone will take apart the New 3DS/XL soon, so I can see if the hinge problem is solved or if the hinges are at least made of thicker plastic. Not that I'll be able to buy one right away, but it'll at least give me peace of mind for when I eventually want to upgrade.
-
Oh I thought you meant right as in the right side of the fracture. That's a thing that would make no sense, haha. Now it's a little more clear. Cracking at the top of the right hinge first would be within expectation, since the most stress you put on it in opening and closing is the hinge pushing against the top of its enclosure. Then I guess the crack travelled along the 90º bend where the enclosure juts from the faceplate, which also makes sense. The strange-looking w shape of the crack kind of raised some outlier flags when I first saw it, but now that I have your story straight, it seems a lot more standard. Still, it's hard to believe that it could break like that without significant use or force applied to it.
I would also think that the pin connector would break before the hinge enclosure, assuming it's made of the same or similar plastic. If they made that stronger than the casing, then that is a case of bad design, since the pin would be much easier to replace (or make replaceable if it isn't) than the whole faceplate.
-
The hinge pin itself is made of metal on the end that goes into the top screen and plastic on the end that goes into the right hinge. It looks very durable, but also places a lot of stress on the plastic hinge and the plastic part inside the hinge which holds the pin in place, especially since it needs to lock twice to get to the fully open position. I'll take some pictures of the parts and post them later, just in case this isn't coming across as clearly as I think it is.
-
I've mostly got it, but I would like to see that hinge pin. I would think that it would have been a lot weaker where the plastic meets the metal and makes it even more surprising that the hinge enclosure broke first. The enclosure should not be that relatively weak if it wants to actually enclose anything.
-
I'm going to keep my XL disassembled for the time being, so I'll take some pictures later. I also want to buy some green spray paint and give the face plates a new look, but that will come later.

So far I spend $10 on eShop points, to get the new Hyrule Warriors DLC with Cia/Lana costumes and Epona. I kinda want to get the pack with Dark Link, which also preorders the upcoming Twilight Princess and Majora Mask packs….damn, that's 20 bucks plus tax. And while I have like $6.50 left in eShop credit, it sucks you can't buy a $15 card. So that'll have to wait.
alright, I think I'll spend most of the rest on preordering/paying off Bayonetta 2, then starting next week, I can preorder and save up for Omega Ruby. Hmm...there's two weeks left in October, if I plan it right, I'll hopefully be able to either pay off all of Omega Ruby, or pay off half and get some more eShop money before November hits. Or if I'm really frugal, both.
Then from there, it's….three weeks? until Smash U.

Do you have a credit card? If you try to buy something and don't have enough funds, it lets you add the exact missing balance with a credit card.

Hi, I'm having problems with my Nintendo club account and I'm not getting any response from the support team! I signed up for an account but then I can't log on, despite activating my email address and obviously using the correct password.
It's one of three possibilities
- Username is entered wrong (this is not entered as your email address)
- Password is being entered wrong (It has to be one capital letter and at least one number).
- Website is screwed up

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p308/Freddy_Mugen88/Broken_3DSXL-6.png[/hide]Ah, thank you! That actually explains just about everything. With the shape and orientation of the plastic end of the pin and with most of the forces being directed parallel to the broad side, it's made to be pretty durable. What they didn't account for was the fact that those forces still travel through the holder, which pushes against the hinge from the inside. So I guess they likely just didn't think it would be a big enough problem to spend more time/money designing against it. Really sucks that Nintendo's charging more than a hundo for the repairs, which I can't imagine requiring the time, effort and cost of resources to be worth more than a buck or two.
I'm mostly just rambling to myself here, but I took four years of engineering classes, so I might as well think of this stuff on occasion, haha.

It takes no more than 10 minutes to disassemble the system, and probably only five more to swap out the broken inner part of the bottom shell for a new one, so it's definitely not worth paying $130. I'm working on making my own hinge pin out of a K'nex piece, which will keep the top screen in place and (hopefully) the re-super glued hinge in a single piece. Of course, as I've said before, just as a stopgap until I can order a replacement inner bottom shell off eBay or Amazon.
-
Seriously, I've seen functional repairs on specialized research equipment cost less than that.

Yeah, nobody's taken it apart yet, but it appears from all signs that it's still not fixed.

Also, the new 3ds does look tempting.

I hadn't noticed that your post had a link. Yeah, that video just adds to my worries. Fuck, Nintendo, get your shit together and build better hinges. The GBA SP never had these problems!

The first time I read about that I saw a story where the headline was "Two Pokemon games coming to 3DS Virtual Console".
So I was like "Red and Blue?!?!"
Then I got sad.

You make it sound like TCG and Puzzle Challenge are bad games, where they're pretty awesome in their own way.
Also, why release blue and red in virtual console when there's so much money to be made from ORAS sales? I find it more likely they'll just do a 3D Kanto next gen and make millions. Again. Because Pokemon.

Why not eventhough FireRed & Leafgreen are barely 12 years old yet.

I still have both of those for GBC.
It makes me wonder if we'll ever get the original Pinball game. That one was brutal as far as changing stages to catch different Pokemon.

I love pokemon pinball, but the bullshit physics are definitely anger inducing xD
I can't imagine anyone ever filling up the pokedex in that game. It's just too much. The sequel was much easier. Personally makes me wish for a new one at some point, like on the eShop or something.

If there was some middle ground with the general difficulty and had legend battles as fun as the second game, I think I would pay full price. That is, if there was a full Dex available.

I did had the whole pokedex in the first pinball :D (it had 151 didn't it?)

Yes, it only had the original 151. How many hours did you put into that? @_@

I either finished or nearly finished the Pokedex in the original Pokemon Pinball too. I can't remember if I really got the last few I was missing. Because damn it was a long time ago. I can say for sure that I took out the battery eventually because I couldn't stand the rumbling anymore.

Smash, Bayonetta, Captain Toad, Yoshi's Woolly World, Splatoon, Star Fox….I'd say the Wii U has a solid lineup for the rest of the year into 2015. Zelda U will (hopefully) skyrocket sales too, whenever that comes.

Tom Nook for Smash? That's totally what this means, right?
Has there been any mention of what the Amiibos are supposed to do in any game other than Smash?
