Yes. My plan is working. A few more weeks and I will be the only person in this forum who hasn't read that thing. I bet the Internet will give me an award for that.
197x , well it can be that ba…
fuck fuck fuuuuck!
(no pun intended)
@Ao:
it was ended prematurely by inoue.
apparently, he got into a lot of disputes in its final days with his editor or the shonen jump editors or something.it's been mentioned that he wanted to put more time and effort into the stories and art, which would take more time, but the higher-ups just wanted him cranking out more chapters regardless of quality because it was a HUGE series at the time. dunno how true that is, though.
maybe, with his uber-detailed art, he just couldn't keep up with a weekly schedule anymore and got into a lot of arguments with his editors over that.
Did Slam Dunk went into a hiatus?
I would say bleach but it was one of my favorite mangas for a while, I would tell people to stop reading before hueco mundo cause i think everything before that is awesome
Dunno if it's been mentioned but Doubt was one of the biggest wastes of time I've ever had.
Definitely one of the worst mangas I've read
Did Slam Dunk went into a hiatus?
no, he ended it with the potential to continue it one day.
@Ao:

No, no, that's not what I meant. Did it ever go into a hiatus when it was still being serialized? Like HxH
Does Inoue still have good ties with JUMP?
Crest of the Royal Family (Ouke no Monshou).
It is a very bad manga.
For what reasons Sea ? I am not letting you trick me into reading something like that again…..with just that .
i started reading 197x i gave up when pretty much when the mutual masturbation started
Oh you ain't seen nothing yet boy . That's just the begining .
Believers rules. 197x rules. Naoki Yamamoto rules.
Maybe I just don't care much about manga that deal with high school student sexual relationship.
At least it's better than the stuff I listed in this thread.
@No:
Oh you ain't seen nothing yet boy . That's just the begining .
But it's only 1 chapter long. :(
But it's only 1 chapter long. :(
That's what you think .
Also , he mentioned he didn't even get past the impromptu group masturbation .
And laying aside the stupidity of the whole thing , wouldn't we all apreciate something like that ?
197x is terrible, the story doesn't make much sense to me. It wasn't even funny, just a big WTF. If someone can tell me what's that good about this one-shot, I would like to hear it.
Why the answer to all human needs : sex !
Believers are pretty great.
Haven't read anything more of Yamamoto, but this one deserves praise.
Yamamoto's stuff rules because unlike 99.99% of ero-manga that exists for sheer masturbation material or fetish material about other author's characters (dojins) he actually throws in plenty of weird and artistic ideas. There's a lot of ennui and nihilism presented in his work that attempts to shatter or overturn ideals about Japanese society (Arigato) and the Japanese mindset (Believers), and everything has a balance of sexuality and creativity–197x just happens to be on the former side of that balance. All of his stuff runs in either mainstream or alternative magazines so despite being more pornographic than 99% of the material that runs alongside it, he's never published in straight up porn ("seijin") manga sources. Essentially, he's the erotic art film director of the manga world.
Also, he's funny as hell.
Also, how did like half the posts in this thread end up being about Naoki Yamamoto anyway?

I blame Renegadesoul.
That's not how you walk Meifumado, Sea.
197x was indeed pointless. but at last its very forgettable. its worse when it can stick in your mind and hunt you for days.
this just reminds me of a horrible mindrape one-shot i came across months ago. "Abstraction" this one. its just 16 pages. but trying to figure out what the hell is going on guarantees brain damage. it will actually hurt you. physically.
i kinda posted this in the wrong thread. actually i do recommend it. :sideways:

Well, I didn't understand it, but the concept is quite interesting, I wouldn't say it's a shitty thing, just a bit difficult to understand, but it might be brilliant. I'll try to read it again when I'll be in the mood.

Shintaro Kago's whole career is this. It's good.
My favorite work of his is Funeral.
The plot line has no importance here - what is important for this one shot is the creative arrangement of panels. And it's executed pretty well.

Funeral eh? I'll look it up.
Isn't this guy a guro author
Kago's made a pretty good career out of pushing taboo buttons. He's also pretty damn funny as well. The one book of his I own has a story about a city being terrorized by Santa Claus: as soon as anyone wishes for anything, their house is immediately bombarded by that gift in such quantities that it crushes and tortures the inhabitants.

Blaming myself isn't as funny.

That sounds really interesting.
I read Abstraction before. The idea is quite weird and interesting.
Aohige, Stephen, RBoar, Gigglepuffy…taken in my list.
As much as I love Believers, I have to say Naoki Yamamoto's works are damn pessimistic. And in the despair of life, his character seek sex. Their future is but a dead end.
I am drawn towards the erotic, so artistic explorations of it are always incredibly welcome by me. As I also find myself attracted to the bleaker, or the more dramatic, Yamamoto is a natural fit. Plus I just love characters and he really crafts some fine ones. I could marathon his short stories and some volumes all in one day and feel pretty good about it all.
Isn't this guy a guro author
Guro actually isn't the kind of word that people tend to think it is. All it really means is grotesque and in the context of authors like Kago, it's just a style of surrealism, or horror for a lack of better word. Not all guro is women being sliced through cheese graters while having sex.
@Gigglepuffy:

You must be a virgin.
That's a… strange conclusion and not actually accurate.
I'm not drawn towards the erotic out of titillation. Human sexuality is simply one of my favorite subjects, especially in art, especially in comics. Seeing it explored and dissected is always a great subject.
Edit: That's probably really goofy to say considering my current joke of a signature.
@Gigglepuffy:
That's a… strange conclusion
Because it wasn't actually a serious conclusion.
You know, Alan Moore, he was married two times. His romantic life was kinda weird.
Read 197x. Not as offended as most everyone here, but then again, ero stuff never really bugged me. If anything, my biggest issue was that the lovely old-school art style gets fugly during the sex scenes. With ecci and hentai, isn't it usually the other way around? I think I'll check out more of Yamamoto's stuff later for the art alone.
I Un-reccommend Excel Saga. I bought 6 volumes of the thing before I realized it was painfully un-funny and I wasn't enjoying it at all.
@Sea:

Oh you.
You know, Alan Moore, he was married two times. His romantic life was kinda weird.
"I'd recommend to anybody working on their relationship that they should try embarking on a 16-year elaborate pornography together," joked Moore. "I think they'll find it works wonders."
:)

Yeah I know
This guy's stuff actually looks pretty interesting and there's at least something that could pass off as art here, it's creative and evokes an acid trip
Then there's the Mai chan guy, who should honestly be stoned to death
Here's a manga I wouldn't recommend btw

I want link pls.Damn an epic story lol.
Also isnt Guro Gore in japanease?I always thought it was.
I also read believer and the reason is bad is sex.Its out of context.There is no reason for it to be taboo for believers but the story was actually great and was captivating when i was reading it i really wanted to know what will happen next story wise.
197x as i said before is just bad and it doesnt even try.Too random
The World is Mine. Worst thing I have ever tried to read. Quit after 3 chapters or so.
Don't listen to this man, The World is Mine is a fantastic comic. The art might be strange but it is super awesome non the less. Read it.
@Sea:

The man looks like Dumbledore if he became a heroin junkie . Of course it was weird !
Being serious though I deeply respect Moore as a writer .
Oh and as for abstraction - it was nice but I prefer surrealism without dicks in it .
Bio Boosted Armor Guyver! NO! Why was this thing even made? Roughly 5 eps stretched to fit 26.
I have sort of a question . Back on Onemanga I found a jump series about a grandpa scientist who turns himself into a cyborg . I would have continued but the scan had such a horrendous linguistic style that it felt like characters just talk gibberrish to each other . Is it the mangaka's fault or is this just a problem with the scanlation itself ? My recomendation (or lack thereof) would depend on the answer .

By your description I'd say the manga is Cyborg Jiichan G, by Obata Takeshi.
About the lack of quality… I can't help since I've never read it.
I hear this kinda stuff about this Oh Great fellow all the time . That what his characters' lines don't make sense etc. I just wanna know if there was possibly a better scan out there .
Lord of the ring is a freaking one shot I wouldn't recommend.
Do not read it.
