i normally don't complain about minor things like this but … if oda gives us a special laugh for doflamingo sounding 'fufufufufu' then use it goddamnit!!! XD
-
The next movie should be a remake of this arc^^'

^ No.

Can't really add much to the first half beyond what others are already saying. I mean, the tide receding and stuff made sense, and the dialogue wasn't unbearable, but it dod go on for too long. Four manga pages took fifteen minutes to animate yikes. At least now that the action's finally started, they don't have any excuse for the long bits of people just staring each other down. Not that that's going to stop them, I bet.
Last seven minutes, when the action picked up, that was great. If that's how all of the minor battles/mook attacks will look for the rest of the arc, that's perfectly all right with me. The dialogue and scene expansions are on the right track, since this is one arc that desperately needs stuff like that.
I think it's kinda funny how Doflamingo is constantly trying to make small-talk with his fellow Warlords and failing. Might as well just stick to talking with Kuma, for all the good it does.
-
Some of the complaints are just stupid.
If they made this arc exactly like the manga, it'd mostly be non-stop fighting. I wouldn't really mind that, but it's not a bad thing they're expanding it by adding some dialogue here and there. The bit about Mihawk was a nice addition, in my opinion.
The first half was slow, but that's the only part that I didn't care much for.
And people saying the war is disappointing so far…. it just started, this episode.
-
I found it retarded how it took such a long time for WB's tsunami to come O_o i was just watching and everyone is just talking as if its not even a war, more like a stare down xD. I was hoping for luffy and crew to pop up D: but i guess that didnt happen . Oh wells, now we got to wait for next epi :D

This. Completely

Agreed. I'll admit that the beginning was slow, but it wasn't as annoying to sit through like episode 307 (I think that's the one). And I was very pleasantly surprised that they actually animated the fighting in the latter half of the episode. I was almost expecting still-shots for the fighting with the sound effects in the background (similar to some scenes from the Alabasta war). If Toei can at least keep the fighting at this level of quality, then this war will look promising.
-
Haha, is anyone else slightly annoyed by Ace's numerous guttural "kuh" sounds?
Sounds like he's constipated.Sounds more like he needs to cough up that hairball already.
-
People complain WAY too much.
I thought this was a good episode. The first half was slow, but the second half made up for it. The war is looking promising.
Next episode looks good.
-
Compared to some of the stuff coming later - I don't mind them using some cheap tricks to extend the length of an episode to allow them more time to animate some of the upcoming battles.
Now if they don't use the time saved here to make the upcoming battles epic in feel then I guess the complaints are not only valid but well deserved. I really hope they keep the recapping to a minimum throughout this though - a week should not be so long people forget what is happening.
The complaint of their not being enough people seen fighting is something I agree with - for the amount of combatants the battlefield seemed rather sparse. Especially if people can stop what their doing to explain a sword >.<
-
So they're driving this arc right into the ground like they did with Thriller Bark and Impel Down, huh? Awesome…and the first episode of the arc showed so much promise! I hope the rest is at least tolerable because the last two episodes were painful to sit through.
-

It's one thing to add to the war by having some dialogue, but it's another when everyone in the war stops moving so that one character can expound upon how one of the Shichibukai is about to do something. Heck, they even had the Admirals so surprised that Mihawk was going to do something and even had Hancock complimenting his power. Some of that just seemed out of place.
Another thing, for me, is that they aren't even covering full chapters, and most of the war in the manga was double spreads which made it a shorter read than normal. And looking at Toei's track record of recent One Piece episodes, then one could make a pretty good judgement that we'll be in these drawn out episodes for a while while the war is supposed to be pretty fast paced with thousands upon thousands of guys fighting each other.

@Geg:
Bunch of minor characters, wheeee
Yamakaji: Yasunori Masutani
Komir: Eiji Takemoto
Namur: Daisuke Matsubara
Rakuyo: Takahiro Fujimoto
Izou: Katsuaki ArimaHuh, I guess Izou really was a man.
So this ep has Yamakaji's first canon line . And Comir's first ever aparently .
Regardless how shit this ep is I shall cry tears of joy . And if there is any Yamakaji centric filler showing him actualy fighting , then I will love Toei forever regardless of the crap they do .
I mean seriously Oda , why do you always forget Yamakaji ? :/
Oh btw any signs of Johnathan ?
-
@No:
Oh btw any signs of Johnathan ?
no , you think they will be smart enough to let him be in the war
maybe they will say that he had to stay at G8
-
Except we clearly saw him in a filler scene , ariving at Marineford with the others .
-
Jesus Christ
So fucking pointless, I can't believe they're gonna filler the war up too, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever, aside from the "Money money money, must be funny" sense
I'm pissed off, grrrr
Mihawk and AoKiji were well animated, thoughBut at this points, its like buying a cornetto, strawberry and a delicious chocolate at the end, except the strawberry is replaced with poop

Oh wow, you want some Yamakaji action too? It would be great! And if Yamakaji, why not the other four? Plus Jonathan and Drake. Regardless what would be that episode about, I would be quite happy. (Yeah, that's like a dream that will never come true. A whole episode about the Vice-Admirals)
One thing about Yamakaji that bothers me, why the hell does he have to use a sword? It would be cool if he used a gun. I think it fits him better.
I think Jonathan is hiding somewhere, like in Navarone, and while Drake having some heart-attacks from the action out there, he is leading his troops from the background.
-
Well given their love of stretching things out , a whole VA centric episode is just barely possible .
And Johnathan was shown ariving at Marineford , after Komir and T-Bone .
-

I know Jonathan is at Marineford. I meant that he's hiding in some safe area, and control things from there. And playing chess of course. Or he's out somewhere to show the Whitebeard pirates his cool hat.
(Hope they give more screentime for T-Bone and Comil too. The first because he's a nice character, and the second cause he looks hilarious.)
-
I think I'm gonna make a Marineford movie. I'll cut out all the BS and watch the whole thing how it was supposed to be. That's gonna be cool.
-
I'm starting to lose my faith in Toei now. I'm not really gonna get my hopes up anymore about the war now…
This reminds me of something else I shouldn't get my hopes up.
Not going to bitch and complain about the stalling just glad the anime still continuing. Also the animation hell a lot better then when it first started but new generations expect more.
-
I will beg to differ . I find the old animation , while upon closer inspection having flaws too , to be a little more wholesome then what it is today : meaning that when I watched it for the first time I don't remember the art style ever realy changing radicaly for an episode or two .
And then I remember how fucked up EL's ending was in the anime . I mean those horrible horrible drawings of the captains , who looked deformed and idiotic , baring a few (axe guy , who fought with Zoro for a bit , was sadly forgotten it seems) .
-
This episode was quite mixed for me. After the bit about Luffy and the guys when the war actually started it had exactly what i want from this arc being animated. Extending the fights that were implied in the story and showing the different characters fighting in the war the whole time even when the story did'nt show it to keep the feel that this is a war. There was about 2 mins of doing that which i loved.
Then it done what i hoped it would'nt do, that whole Mihawk scence dragged on way too long and too many monologues and doing nothing going on. So I dunno yet about this arc yet, more of the early part of it would suit me down to the ground.
Question though, is what tashigi said about mihawk's sword being among the best 12 in the world mentioned in the manga? I don't remember if it was. -

In my opinion, the differing art/animation style is somewhat of a double-edged sword. Some may hate it because the drastic change in art and animation may be a little too disorienting, especially when transitioning from the recap to the current episode. Hell, someone who's not even savvy with who does an episode can tell when Tate is behind the wheel, for example. But I've really grown to like the change in styles, it helps some episodes stick out in good ways. Thriller Bark is what made me like this, believe it or not. Seeing art and animation in the same nature as Movie 7, 8, and 9 was kinda cool to see in the series itself and gave us some pretty epic moments (the first assault on Oars, Sanji/Zoro/Usopp's fights, and the Emperor transformation sequence just to name a few). Though, I'm sure some people may have had problems with some of the examples, but in the end, it's all a matter of taste and opinion.

The next movie should definitely be this arc without all the filler. Well Movie 12 since this arc probably won't be over or be just ending when we get previews of the 11th movie.
-
Didn' Oda sugets movies coming out every two years ? I personaly think I would rather have a movie each year meself mind you , seeing as Strong World ended up not being all that diferent from the other movies , content wise .
-
I noticed that Tashigi was apparently considering taking on Vista. It reminds me that she promised to get much stronger at the end of Alabasta. It's a pity that she never really got any chances to live up to that in the manga. Maybe she'll get some cool filler scenes or something. Heh.
Regarding the Jonathan conversation above, yes, he better show up and do something cool. Hopefully it'll be more than:
Jonathan: It's been a while Straw Hat, I'm surprised that you've managed to show up here.
Luffy: Hey, you're that chess guy from G8!
Jonathan: decks Luffy with an Ambition Punch -
Haha, is anyone else slightly annoyed by Ace's numerous guttural "kuh" sounds?
Sounds like he's constipated. His voice actor is too used to doing that when he played Piccolo in DBZ :P
-
@-Luffy-:
Same here. :/ Back to keyhole now.
I really like the new opening. It had to grow a bit on me, but atm I like it more and more every time I see it. Really fits for the arc, though it is kind of foreshadowing the outcome of the war imo.
! The hell? This opening doesn't foreshadow shit.
-
It sorta does if you read the lyrics.
-
The foreshadowing will pay off when we reach the Epic of Sabo.
-
I enjoyed it. Ok episode.
@Cyan:
The foreshadowing will pay off when we reach the Epic of Sabo.
Wait 'til we see the filler battle of Sabo vs. Cerberus Dadan. Too hot for manga.

Wtf ARE you guys watching?

Motherfucking THIS.
Ya'll need to read the lyrics.

Damn straight, all this random on looking and the comical stylings of 3 and Buggy are pissing me off. Get on with the damn arc already geez.
-
Ah this arc is going to consist of people bitching about pacing again isn't it? The thing is they can't cover too much since they're so close and they can't add tons of filler fights because you just can't animate non-stop action for 6 months and keep a level of quality up. There's simply isn't enough time or money for it, something's got to give. So yeah expect a lot of still shots and people reacting to random shiz.
The thing I'm going to be focusing on is whether or not they do the individual scenes and moments justice. I'd rather sit through half an episode of buggy being useless, how annoying that may be than five minutes of Jimbei throwing one punch. Drag it out all you can but don't ruin a perfectly good action scene. Action needs to be fast paced and well animated the second half of this episode lived up to my expectations in that regard.
This "they're so close to the manga" doesn't fly when they're a year ahead. I mean come on now. They've done enough filler and if they have to filler it up AFTER the war then they should. I seriously spent the first half of the episode thinking "and the war starts now right?" I'd much rather have some crap shot filler when it's all said and done then this terrible pacing and constant shots of every person whenever someone speaks.
Haha, is anyone else slightly annoyed by Ace's numerous guttural "kuh" sounds?
Sounds like he's constipated.Inorite? God that's annoying.
I will say this though, once the action started, it seemed fine. I'll be okay if that's the pacing for the war but if it's this stuff we saw in the first half of the episode, I'll just go back to not watching.
-

I did. In fact, it's part of why I enjoy the opening.
! It fits whats going on and makes me think about the recent flashback, but there's nothing that hints at Ace's actual death. I'm guessing the full version of One Day (which was delayed due to spoilers) alludes to it and probably ends on a really sad note.
-
As said before, for the first half, it had horrible pacing. As for the second half though, that's the kind of filler I like, the fighting filler, the implied stuff. But yea, I mean, If there really so concerned with catching up with the Manga, They can use more of the fighting filler, but spending half of an episode to focus in on the tidal waves starting?
Also, what idiots are manning those cannons!? We here all these cannons, and none seem to manage to hit the ship! We've seen Sanji, Luffy, and Zoro knock away cannons from hitting the Sunny, Why can't the Commanders hit the Cannonballs away? You don't have to make the Marines seem like complete dumbasses.
-
I really don't understand why they don't speed up the pacing. Taking the (very) easy way out? The manga is plenty far ahead compared to how its been before…and this arc is a war! It needs to be fast and dangerous! Instead we get stammering/gargling Ace. Yeah, the movie they make of this arc should rock.
All I can hope for is that the upcoming flashback is treated well. It's beautiful in the manga...
-
I don't call 42 chapters all that far ahead. You reach that in no time if you increase the pacing. Though why they insist on doing less than one chapter is a mystery to me. What's wrong with just doing a whole chapter. If you're going to stall there's two ways, filler arcs or filler within canon and both are hated. Once an anime gets anywhere near catching up to a manga there's no pleasing the fanbase because what they want is simply impossible, unless Japan finally adopts actual season breaks. I say the most important thing is that when there's action it's done justice. If characters who're supposed to be stronger and faster start moving slower than weaker characters earlier on in the series then there's something wrong.
-
-
i'd like to have 'fillers' scenes about OTHER people there, we've had enough of buggy ffs
buggy now has more screentime than Luffy :))))))
seriously he has a lot of screen time lately..
i hope we wont see him in the next episodes
-
I started to realy hate anime Buggy since the horrible horrible filler in ID . I just hope no more poop jokes are made in this arc .
-
first, where is mihawks sword info ever mentioned? barratie arc? sbs? this first time?
second the still shots and slowness of the episode is fine for me so far, i mean really it doesn't seem like the war started until mihawk does his slash, so i was fine with all the "dramatic" staredowns and intros and what not to start this war. woudl rather have them now than some slow ass intro for each character when they FINALLY do something.
-
Before now, the only time Mihawk's sword has been named was in the first databook, I believe.

Maybe it was also in the red character, but as I already said, information about Mihawk's sword was in the 3rd data book (yellow grand elements)

If 463 Doesnt End With Oars Showing Up Ill Be Pretty Dissapointed…
