Late Night Talk Shows

Yes, he is.

There's a rumor running around that last night was Conan O'Brien's final broadcast. NBC is scared of his jokes and monologues now. Anyone that caught it last night knows why. Monolouge making fun of the situation, and multiple skits including "conan is being pimped" and a "Deal or No Deal" with complete with Howie Mandel. (All the other late night shows seem to be behind Conan if their… entire shows... are any indication.)
And NBC isn't hosting the show on their site like they have for the past several years. Its around on AOL and youtube though.

I side with Conan. Why are we moving Conan's timeslot for Leno, who hasn't been funny for a while.
But I think the REAL issue is….
Why does Jimmy Fallon have show and why is it still on the air? He's not funny at all.
EDIT: If Conan leaves the show, it won't be the last we'll see of Conan. I'm betting MONEY that he will move his ass off to Fox, where he used to work with the Simpsons. Fox, being a channel full of loonies and money hungry freaks (what else is new with most companies), will welcome him with open arms.
-
Aside from conan not being funny, he's absolutely right.
-
I guess people just have different types of sense of humor…I've found Conan to be hilarious for as long as he's been on the air.
-
I mean, he has his moments. He's not completely unfunny, but I just tend to find him kind of meh.
-

Yes! Quoted for Epic truth.
-
I don't like Leno's show, but Leno does have his moments. Everyone else isn't half bad (even Jimmy Kimmel is okay).
Jimmy Fallon…..AWFUL!
The only thing that's funny is how badly his jokes bomb WITH HIS OWN AUDIENCE!!!
-
Conan is the comedian meant for the Tonight Show and its timeslot, when NBC did the 25 year anniversary of the Tonight Show and they had clips and interviews of Johnny Carson they even showed how emotional he got when talking about Letterman and how he got screwed by Leno. Letterman was always a supporter of Conan, he always believed in his comedy, and every comedian respects Conan, whereas Jay is nothing more than a scumbag.
SNL, Simpsons, all shows Conan worked for, support him, Will Farrel gave Conan major publicity, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are public supporters and friends of Conan, whenever there is a skit on an award show, or even "the late night wars" they love to have Conan as a guest and vice versa.
If you consider Jon Stewart unfunny, or unfit as the voice of reason of late night, you should commit harakiri.
Anyway, I hope Conan leaves and either gets a spot on ABC (since Kimmel is a joke) or Comedy Central, he deserves the respect he has earned, and Jay Leno truly deserves to retire, he has been on TV for too long, and his ratings agree with this statement.

Thou shalt not worship false idols.

That is the truth right there.

John Stewart is so overrated.
Conan is a golden god…but STEWART? really?? -
Well I never saw the movie, I used watch the Prevue guide channel a lot, when I was a kid and I saw the trailer for the movie all the time. lol.
OH MY GOD! Same here!!!!
The thing about Jimmy Fallon.
There's a generation growing up now of middle schoolers who will attempt to stay late at night to watch TV.
Because that's what middle schoolers do.
Then kids that are 'cool' and 'stayed up late' will talk about the, "…awesome Jimmy Fallon Show!", not that there's anything awesome about it, but simply because it's a way to stand out. Then in a year or two they'll realize, "Oh! This guy was on Saturday Night Live!", and they'll search for clips of him. They'll talk about him as someone who was 'classic' when he was on SNL 'back in the day'. Then when they get to high school they'll start recalling some of the quotes/jokes from his show that they no longer watch and use them in class and everyone will have nostalgia. Because let's face it, when you're in middle school and high school, 3 years is a long time.
Then when they get to college they'll tune into his show and watch his show every night and laugh with roommates and discuss his jokes and humor at great length even enjoying when his jokes completely fail.
And thus, you will have the Jimmy Fallon generation that look at people like Conan as some asshole that has had his show way too long and should relinquish it to Jimmy.
And it goes on like that until David Letterman induces Time Kompression.

True, but it's pretty bad when his monologue jokes doesn't get ANY laughter.
When a punchline misses, it's pretty ugly.

I can remember when Conan had that.
However, and I've never actually seen Jimmy's show so I can't comment on what he does or doesn't do in that case, when Conan's jokes failed, he always made up for it with some self-depreciating quip that got a chuckle out of me and that made it all worthwhile.

Watch a few episodes. If anything is funny, it's the guest and audience, not Fallon.
-
This thread is kind of making me want to watch The Tonight Show. The only Conan I've heard is from Dr. Katz.

Interesting:
http://thesuperficial.com/2010/01/jay_leno_could_bail_on_nbc_too.php
Sources close to former 'Tonight Show' host Jay Leno tell me he is furious with the way NBC has treated him and Conan O'Brien and is considering walking away from the entire mess with his head held high. "Now that Conan has made it clear he is leaving the troubled network, Jay is considering doing the same. They have put Jay in a terrible position. It looks like he is the reason that Conan is now without a job. Jay is a great guy and it's not fair that due to NBC's stupidity he looks like the bad guy," a TV insider tells me.
"Plus, what happens when Jay does return to the 11:35 slot if his audience doesn't immediately follow? How can he possibly trust the same network that canceled Conan after only seven months?" -
Wow.
NBC done fucked up big time.
-
Yes, NBC totally fucked up. Big time.
-
It's not surprising given the scenario robby spelled out. I don't think Leno wants to be hated, especially when he's built a career on making people laugh.
If Conan fans didn't have an inferiority complex as wide as the national debt, they'd realize they're being jerks because it's pretty obvious Leno is being demonized for NBC acting like any corporation would - trying to maximize its profit. Even if you criticize him not wanting to retire, it's clearly hard for him to do so when he's still got good things to say.
-

Leno could have said a week ago "I'm willing to move back to my old timeslot, if Conan is okay with it. Otherwise, no deal."
Instead, he's been saying in interviews "Yeah, if NBC offered me the Tonight Show again, I'd take it back." rather than "No, I think Conan is doing a great job, and it will grow and do well under him." And then, he agreed to NBC's proposal before any sort of final negotiation took place (apparently) and it was announced three days ago that it was official he was moving back to the old slot.
Due to the huge ammount of backlash and negative press, (and every single other late night comedian being against him) of course he's going to say now that he's not up for it. But he should have said it a week ago, or talked to Conan first. And he shouldn't have been badmouthing it beforehand for weeks. Turning it down now is pretty much the only thing he CAN do, its not what he would have done if he had any other choice, its not what he actually DID choose to do before the backlash.
It'll be REALLY interesting what NBC pulls now that both of them have said they're walking. Particularly since its kind of… their entire night's lineup for the entire week.
Reruns till the olympics, I guess...
-
Well only 7 minutes away and there will be a new Conan tonight. So lets enjoy as much we can before the switch. And lets see what Dave, Kimmel, and Craig have to say tonight about the Late Night war. Because everyone was on fired last night.
-
…yeah, he's tearing them a new one already.
I'm enjoying this.
-
This is my favorite qoute so far tonight.
"I just want to say to all the kids at home, you can do anything you want in life… unless Jay Leno wants to do it too." Conan O'Brien
-
Dave just rip NBC a new one as well.
-
Graah, I wish I could watch both.
-
Dave should be up online tomarrow on CBS.com. I know after Conan, I'm switching to Craig to see what he does.
-
Dave got Jack Bauer in drag now!! LOL
-
The clip of Dave bashing NBC for tonight is already up at CBS.com. I noticed they're incredibly fast getting clips up (complete opposite in the case of streaming full episodes however).
-
Here is Dave's clip.
kIaAL9FcL_k
-
Craig Fregusion with a Jeff Zucker's puppet! LOL.
-
Sigh. I didn't so much as smile at Dave's clip…maybe the vile affair thing has really tainted my impression of him.
-
Conan gots an offer….

I know it's just me because they're supposedly this legendary duo but to me Dave's bandleader is absolutly useless, he never seems to do anything besides repeat back what was just said to him. Never once has i seen even a hint of a playful mocking or a nice back and forth going on betwenn them.

It's not just you, the banter is not there.
I was watching episodes of You Bet Your Life between Marx and Fenneman fairly recently, and I felt the dialogue used to be fairly lively even before the Carson age. It's not on Dave's show.
-
So it's confirmed? Conan's leaving? I'm a week behind on my DVR.
-
Not yet so far, we still waiting for more information to come out.
-
On Monday night's show, Conan said he'd like to "work in a classier business with better people, like hard-core porn" – and it appears one "classy business" was listening.
Adult film company Pink Visual sent Conan a letter officially offering the dude a job, saying there's a demand for "tall, lean, pale, male 'gingers' that have a David Caruso kind of thing going on."
Let's see Leno snatch this one from him.
Oh geez, that's hilarious.
-
I forsee them making a porno where Jay Leno literarlly screws Conan.
-
The one upside to all of this is I actually ended up watching Craig Ferguson's show after Conan the last couple nights. I've tuned in briefly before and he always seemed fun, but catching a whole episode, he's quite entertaining and fun to watch. A little crazy and just throwing on a one man show basically, with no real skits or band to back him up. Just him telling stories and being wacky.
Lower budget, but seems like he's having fun.
I'll probably keep watching him now, when I'm up that late.
-
Conan is actually funny so clearly he should win.
Leno at this point is entirely dependent on pavlonian responses where people just laugh because they feel they're supposed to. -

Conan is out. Fuck Leno and NBC.
And some more Jeff Zucker BS:

Well, so much for Leno being furious and not wanting to be seen as the badguy and hating this current treatment.
So be it. I'll watch Conan till he's off the air (and his last few shows should be REALLY interesting)… and then i guess I'm done with the channel. They don't have a single other thing I want to watch.
Stewart, Letterman, and Craig Ferguson it is.
I hope when Leno gets his slot back he gets lower ratings than Conan was getting.
And some more Jeff Zucker BS:
Hey, if Conan can't legally get a show… maybe he can be a guest on Letterman every night for the next six months.
-
I watch Chuck and The Office, but that's it (technically I watch 'em through Hulu and the like though).
-
Ya know TMZ ain't the most reliable of sources… especially because they're basically a tabloid with a TV show.
I don't think NBC's gonna screw over Conan or force him to leave after how much they invested with setting up the new show and how bad it would look for them publicly. -
Dude, they're already screwing him over.
The only question at this point is how bad it gets. :/
