I liked this chapter a lot.
Gajeel is still my favorite character.
Hopefully next chapter, he'll kick goat man's ass.

Heh, ship teasing. What is it with Gajeel and fighting giant animals lately?
Well, with a name like that, the goat guy's obviously a spirit. Be nice if he turns out to be 100% evil, but knowing Mashima, that's unlikely. Loke's fighting the guy with glasses and the fabulous roses, callin' it.
Aside from Natsu and maybe Elza, I don't any one on one fights going on. Every does have a partner after all. Also, Levy isn't really selling anyone on the idea that she could be S-Class. Alzack seems more deserving than her. She needs to do something.
[ ]"We need to send out an elite team of badasses! Eh, I guess Lucy, Natsu, Erza, Gray and Happy will do, instead of any of our other 40 unique guild members."
[ x] This arc has promise.
[ ]Gerard appears.
[ ]Surprise Dragon Slayer
[ ]Lucy fights another summoner
[]Erza handicaps herself so she can't solo the big bad
[ ]Maybe we should send Gajeel in as surprise backup and have him be awesome.
[x ]Lucy gets naked/someone rips Lucy's shirt off
[ ]"the "enemy" has become an "ally/friend"
[ ]Surprise last boss
[x ]Manly tears
[ ]"This arc blows, I hope the next one is better. Maybe the end can save it."
[ ]Natsu wins by deus ex machina 1 time only powerup.
[ ]"The last arc was kind of lame. I hope the next one is better."
[ ]Arc ends, restart from #1.
Another great chapter. Seriously. If I haven't made it clear by now, I'm a big Levy fan and a big Gajeel fan. So even if they were only a few pages at the end, I really enjoyed it. I'm not usually one to ship characters or anything, but I have to admit I do really like their slowly growing relationship. It's been hinted at, but Hiro seems to be expanding it a lot more recently.
I do agree that she needs to do some more stuff to prove herself. Maybe by the end of this arc she'll have more confidence in her abilities.
It's inevitable that we'll be getting a surprise villain, but I'm going to wait to check that box off until we actually see them confront Fairy Tail as the "surprise last boss".
Dark Dragon Slayer(not even confirmed) is going to fight Natsu,
Caprico is going to become one of lucy's
and
Meldy is going to join fairy tail
and she is an android.
I'm calling it .
I think the big reason Levy's being considered is because if not for her, the guild would have lost against Laxus.
Wow.. A Grimore Heart has a Natsu clone.
I think the big reason Levy's being considered is because if not for her, the guild would have lost against Laxus.
Well that, and she's one of the smartest mages in the guild, if not the smartest. As we said when this arc began, it takes more than brute strength to be an S-class. Hopefully Levy will prove her worth, that she is capable of fighting without the strength the others have.
I forgot to mention this myself last week, but the only thing I don't like about this arc so far was the way Juvia was beaten.
So it seems these 2 GH guys http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/13201562/17
are the finalized versions of the two silhouetted guys here?
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/fairy_tail/v16/c131/10.html
Levy has a powerful ability and can be brutal if given the time to set up traps or a battlefield. However, she won't always get time to prepare and needs to be able to handle different situations, something I don't think she can do just yet. She also needs to be more inventive with her magic (imagine how broken she could be if she could use sentences!).
I think that the natsu paralel is the Fire Fake Dragon Slayer.
Yeah, I found the levy-gajeel interactions awkward to say the least.
This is a manga. A girl complained that a guy didn't notice her, then got mad/embarassed and ran away, thinking "I hate him!" then gets into trouble, and said guy saves her. Could this be any more obvious? Probably not.
But still, this arc hasn't fallen flat yet. here's hoping it doesn't??
@Robo:
New chapter is out. I found it to be good until we got to the part with Gajeel and Levi, Levi just randomly freaks out, as if Gajeel doesn't always act like that. Also, if she sucks so much and needs Gajeel to protect her, why nominate her for S-Class?

Hiro is going to use this fight to show why Levy deserves to be in this tournament. It's really her only chance. If she's beaten here or doesn't put up a great fight then everyone will again question why she's even in the S-Class tournament. In the beginning I too questioned why she was picked and her self demeaning attitude in this chapter only reaffirms my doubt of her abilities, but it's best to just give her a chance. I expect she'll pull off something great once she starts believing in herself or something along those lines.

So umm....I wonder who Natsu is going to fight.

Really? Because this is like. One of the most cliche things I have ever seen this manga do. And that's a mean feat.
These chapters seem to be marking a long descent towards flatzone - in my opinion. This is looking like OS all over again - at least I'm highly suspicious of this arc not being another disappointment.
If only they'd just decided to focus on the Fairy Tail characters. :V

Yes, incredibly cliche, not to mentioned rushed and randomly thrown in in the last few pages…
Well, it worked good for me though. Maybe only because I like the two of them? Who knows. I really did expect Gajeel to get a bit more focus though.

Oh come on. This arc looking like the OS arc? That's not even a fair comparison.
I don't trust Fairy Tail to handle it's Dark Guild villains PLUS "the incarnation of Zeref" well, and neither should you. The second folks start spouting off shit about "the darky dark darkness of darkitude is greater than the lightly lightsparklefactory of good" you need to consider heading for the hills.
Rule of numbers says I'm right anyhow. We'll both be glad and pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong, how's that?
A decent chapter, gives the fangirls something to write about…

At first I was confused as to why levi was nominated for S-class but than I got to thinkin about her breaking freeds cantations.

I never noticed that before, nice find.
Oh , anyone wanna et the GH kid will have some sorta sad past with him/her not being able to fight ?
Not a bad chapter but yeah kind aclichéd ending .
Not as good as the last chapters but it is OK.
Gajeel ist worth the read :)
Is it just me or has this arc already hinted at both an ElfmanxEvergreen pairing AND a GazillexLevy pairing? Even this title page seemed to be doing that.
Good chapter. Even enjoyed the shipping at the end.
My guess for Grimoire Heart's Magic:
Zancrow: Lava Magic. It's pretty damn obvious. ("Turn everyone into ash!")
Caprico: He's a Stellar Spirit, so he uses his Stellar Ability, whatever that is. Lucy's most powerful spirit (besides Loke, who's not available right now) is Aquarius, and Aquarians typically clash with Capricorns.
Rustyrose: Some kind of plant based magic, like Lucky.
Kain Hikaru: Pressure Magic. Notice it takes him a moment to build up his words, and when they come out, they all come out at once.
Meldy: No idea. She seems like an Android, so maybe she has weapons built into her.
Mest: Well, we know he has some kind of Memory magic. Beyond that, I couldn't guess.
Hades: Since Death is taken by Zeref and Zancrow very obviously has Lava… I'm gonna go with some kind of Despair Magic (although I'm sure, being a guild leader, he can use multiple types of magic). That is, he can strike immense fear and despair into his opponents simply by being in their presence.
I didn't liked so much this chapter, but Gajeel is always Gajeel.
AND next chapter will have more Mest.
I just hope Mest will not ruin the next one.
I think that the natsu paralel is the Fire Fake Dragon Slayer.
That'd be a first. I was looking forward to the other nontraditional fake slayer powers.
Just thought this guy was gonna be a blue/black flame user.
I think he's going to use black fire too, because while I could be wrong, I don't think Mashima has ever inked in Natsu's own flames like that. I can imagine Natsu trying to eat it and getting hit with horrible indigestion or something.
And if watching anime has taught me anything, it's that quite, emotionless girls like Meldy are going to be the most dangerous.
I liked the chapter because we got to see more of Levy and she might actually fight now.
Great chapter again.
Nice to see GH make the first move. My guess Gazille and Levy will come out victorious. Funny to see Gray and Loke cheating, my guess they'll save Lucy and Kana when they run into some GH members.
Interesting that Hades already has the keys. I guess the real zeref is sealed inside that boy and has begun to slowly awaken by himself, hence some of his powers are leaking out to his human body.
Can't wait for next chapter, I wanna see more match-ups, and more revelations.
Just noticed that the next chapter is called "Mest and Yomaz"
So it looks like there are still GH members to be named.
Levy randomly being shoehorned into a damsel in distress situation just to force a pairing. Ugh. And is it just me or are ALL the side-character females in this series just Lucy clones in personality?
Great chapter, this arc is pretty damn awesome, but they need to show why levy was chosen to be their, if she's to weak no matter how smart and sophisticated she may be, she shouldn't be an s class mage, prove her worth
Man, I support Gajeel x Levi but even I thought that shit at the end was forced as all hell. Mashima man, what the hell you doin, son?

Shoehorned into a damsel in distress?
Dude, remember what Gajeel did to her and her team.
Levy was never ever a strong, independent woman and has never been potrayed as such, I don't get what you are complaining about.
But the pairing is weird.
I mean, I guess she can forgive him for what he did, but fall in love with him?
Dude beat up all three of 'em and made them hang like Jesus from the cross
The whole "I hate him" sequence was terrible I'd admit. I honestly thought by now she kinda tolerated Gazille's rash personality… Then agian, they haven't been together this long.
Levy obviously wants to use Gajeel's metal powers for her own gain, if you know what I mean.

It's the context of the situation that matters. Not just what makes sense but what is good for the character as well as the execution. I don't exactly see it empowering that Levy, an S-class examinee, had to be saved from a bunch of nameless mooks without even putting up a fight. Nor do I find the whole situation well thought out with her running off randomly was just for her to be saved two pages later. Clumsy as hell and degrading to the character to boot.
I dropped this manga about half a year ago as I was slowly going comatose reading it.
Have things improved?
The current arc had a couple of good chapters, but the rest has been trash.
Has there been wasted potential galore?
^The potential only just started.
I'm on the fence. If Hades and his lackeys don't live up to their buildup, I'm dropping this series for good. Not for the manga itself, but just to give me a reason to avoid this topic and whatever fandom the series has left.

Yeah. This.
The scene was awful and OOC as hell.
"ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS FIGHT bloohoo" runs off blindly saved by MAN
It would have been a bit better if Hiro wrote the scene differently. Like Levy questioning whether or not Gazille have changed since her crucifixion, despite a few honorable moments since he joined… But of course... Hiro is writing this.
Yeah. This.

So you know Levy's personality now to say its OOC for her? I mean wev'e seen her so often we definitely know how shes supposed to act, am I right? After all we all know that one of the major complaints about Fairy Tail isn't Mashima's lack of focus on his side characters like Levy.
It all seemed in character to me, Shes a smart girl, with self esteem issues, and thinks shes weak.
An example of bad characterization and an OOC moment would be when Erza completely forgave Gerard for all his past sins because he didn't remember anymore. I mean in that instance we can actually know to claim its OOC since we see a lot of Erza and know her personality. You can't say the same thing with Levy. Also shes been around Gazille a few times since hes attacked her. Shes either been afraid of him or acting confident to hide that fact.
As for Gazille saving her if the people they are fighting end up not being fodder then theres no reason to even make the claim that its damaging to Levy's characterization.

Yeah, if Hiro had to do the damsel in distress routine, the scene could have been handled much better just with a few alterations. First Levy says something deep about working together even though Gazille basically crucified her and her friends, Gazille says some shit about never having regrets about his actions, Levy kicks him in the nuts and runs off in a fury WITHOUT crying, she gets ambushed by either ten fodder or two foreshadowed mid-tier fighters, she does one impressive attack, gets quickly over powered because she was unprepared THEN Gazille comes to save her while complaining about his nuts. Would have taken the exact same panel time but no one's character would be any the worse.
Those animal warriors have unique designs and look nothing like the faceless cloaked crowd seen earlier in the chapter, so I don't know why they're being called mooks.

While I agree with the thoughts on pushing Levy into a D.I.D situation (though she was cute without the headband), Cana at least seems to be a female side character with a personality unique from Lucy and not based upon fixation on a man.

Unforeshadowed no names. Until next chapter proves otherwise, they're fodder for Gazille to show his man stuff.

Do not mention Kana. What happened to that cool, calm, mature Robin/Shikamaru hybrid that she looked like initially? Talk about disappointing. Now she's just a slightly more sensible generic Lucy clone.
I dropped this manga about half a year ago as I was slowly going comatose reading it.

This arc's been significantly better than OS and Edoras.
For me, it's about Tower of Paradise-level, with the potential to be as good as Phantom Lord.

You actually saw that? I thought she was a crazy easy going drunk.

Yeah that's the same for me, except she could become an angry drunk if need be

I guess it's just me who thinks that Levy was acting out-of-character in pages 15 and 16.
Me
and 99% of the posters in the past few pages.
(sometimes i wonder if we're reading the same manga)
