Hmmm, sounds interesting. And I see that it's going to be subbed only.
Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

-
Aleast its better then nothing at all.
-
But hey, no one's complaining.
I thought you were talking about dub episodes at first though. I'll check out 206 and 207 when those subs are out.
-
Well it'll be nice to get those episodes online in a good quality at last XD
-
I would like to point out that it is well within the realm of probability that those of us who have ordered from Rightstuf will have the actual set around this time, anyway. And if not, I'm pretty certain it will only be a matter of a few days. In fact, I think this may be a pretty good indicator as to when it will ship.
I have to admit, though, I kind of expected the dub at least to be streamed for the elite subscribers. I mean, this is the very thing that they hyped it for. I know that I might just sign up for streaming the new dubbed episodes. But then, maybe they're just trying to avoid negatively impacting sales.

Well, their contract seems a bit different than most anime they pick up. Toei seems to have a bit more control over it than most anime studios have (or want) over their product overseas. I'm actually surprised that FUNimation is even releasing subbed episodes early.
Any word on Viz big announcement?
It looks like they have something to say about One Piece at SDCC. I'm wondering if they managed to sell film rights or something.
-
Gentelman Skeleton, the big news is that a AR Luffy figure and a ice cream one piece truck will be at SDCC.
-
One Piece 101: Tony Tony Chopper now up
-
Heres the link for those who want to see Chopper 101 and are outside of Funimation's territory.
Only have Robin's left :3

Ehh. Robin's will be more appropriate after the Enies Lobby arc. They don't have her video as coming soon, so maybe they're doing that.

That would make more sense. XD
-
There were Season 1 and Season 2 recap videos listed too but those disappeared around the time we were getting close to the Chopper video.
-
Just a few more hours till we get some season 4 legally!
-
-
Yeah that for the main Funimation site, Onepieceofficial.com is week ahead of episodes
-
-
Season 4 episodes aren't up on onepieceofficial.com
-
Too bad, guess we wait till next week then.
-
Collection 8 is now up for preorder on Amazon now.
I'm assuming there wasn't a cover posted when this post was posted or else people would be talking about it, but there's a cover for Collection 8 now at least. Not surprised that the whole crew (up to that point) would be on this cover, but this image is… all right, imo.
I like how Merry's on the side image.
-
Yeah, Collection 8 have a nice cover.
-
Perfect! I was hoping Merry would be featured, but just Merry on the front would be boring. Perfect that s/he's on the side!
-
comes out on my birthday. I really do hope manga uk gets the licenses to these
-
Really nice art, was that art ever used before or did Toei make it for the set like they do for the voyages?
-
That's an amazing cover. And it looks like I'll be able to get season four the same time as this.
-
Really nice cover for Collection 8.
I guess this is the last collection we'll see for a while?

Chances are we won't see collection 9 at least a month or 2 the last voyage for season 4 comes out.
-
But hey, anything could happen! Funi works in mysterious ways sometimes…
Ooooooeeeeeeoooooo
-

I've had a Funi poster for the past year with that art on it.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I'm hoping to see rightstuf ship out the sets this week, or the beginning of next. We've passed the one month early mark.
-
@Zek:

Ooooooeeeeeeoooooo
They're a business, they wouldn't screw up and release that any earlier than following the end of Season 4. And even then they'd know they wouldn't be able to release the entire season in Collection form. I know you're kinda joking but still.
I've had a Funi poster for the past year with that art on it.
It was also used (following the wallscroll of course) as the preliminary cover for Season 3 Fifth Voyage, and was what we were expecting to see until MugiMikey posted the actual cover here when he got it in the mail.
-
Any one else hoping it's an artbox for the season?
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Though I really doubt that we'll get one. Considering we don't have an artbox for any other season, I doubt they'd start now... Oh, how curious I am of what this special gift might be.
-
I hope it ships Friday or later, I'll have money then.
-
Funi didn't start on the collections until 3 years after the first voyages came out. There's no way we're gonna see new collections in less than two years from now. They'll at least wait until season 5 (Enies Lobby) is completed since that'll probably run 5 voyages too, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they wait until after season 6 (Ice Hunters/Thriller Bark) to start them up again. With any luck, that'll only another 3 years from now and the most likely point to continue with the collections.
-
I think they'll release S4 voyages in the long interim between season 4 and 5.
-
That would only be two Collections though, leaving out the final Voyage of Season 4 from being in a Collection.
Releasing the Collections following Season 3 worked because there was so much to release before the next Voyage was ready. With only two Collections I really don't even see the point of rushing it out.
-
There's no way we're gonna see new collections in less than two years from now.
The time between the final Season 3 voyage and the release of Collection 8 is how long exactly ?
I'm merely saying that predicting the future of DVD releases based on how it's been done in the past isn't necessarily concrete proof.

Still over a year, and yes, the gap will obviously be shorter at the tail end of the releases than at the beginning. But are you truly hoping to get Collection 9 before 2014?
There'll never be concrete certainty about any Funi release schedules; if there was, there'd be a lot less antsyness, that's for sure. But besides precedent, there's also common sense. For any new release, Funi normally starts with the most viable and profitable release format: 13-ep sets, chipboard boxsets, LE sets, and all with a MSRP of around $40-70+. They keep these on the market for enough time that anyone who's going to buy them at these prices will do so, normally at least a year. For series longer than 26 eps, like FMA or Sgt. Frog, they usually keep the 13-ep sets on the market for at least 52 eps-worth, which is about how much they license at a time.
It's usually not until a year has passed since the last set was released that they start on repackaging them into 26-ep sets. Ideally by this time, they've earned enough from the initial releases so that all future re-releases are more purely profitable. This lets them put the larger sets at a more attractive price point for those who didn't bite the first time while still earning money minus manufacturing costs.
One year minimum for season 4, one year minimum for season 5. 10 voyages into 5 collections. We'll probably be well into season 6 before we start seeing collections again, but I have a feeling they'll go ahead and wait for season 7 to start and add season 6 to the tail end of the second wave of collections. If season 6 starts from the first Ice Hunter ep (326) and continues until just the last ep of TB (381) without the Spa Island eps, that'll be 56 eps that could just fit into 4 14-ep sets. That would mean 7 collections total, which means another full year of new releases with as much momentum as these previous collections had. Heck, maybe by this time they'll make some 52-ep sets from 1-205 for good measure, since it'll have been another 3 years since the first collection came out.
In short, Funi has a model that works for them, and from what I've seen, they're not going to undercut their profits with re-releases before it's fully time for them. I know you're hoping for an even cheaper price point on top of unity among your collections, but personally, I don't regret starting early and paying what I gotta pay. You know, I did go and order some extra copies of S4V1… If you're gonna be so stubborn about waiting, why don't I just give you one on the house? Then you can see for yourself what you'll be missing. ;P

Just handing something to someone on a silver platter isn't going to make someone sympathetic or understanding to the cause. Your just enabling the behaviour further. Just give it up, he's just gonna continue with collections no matter how many of us jump down his throat about it/how many good reasons we give him about the benefits of getting the voyages. Its his decision in the end.
-
^He put a little winky face at the end, that means he's half-way joking. You can relax
-
Actually I thought my comment was very tame and neutral. All I was saying is that it was your decision and that he should accept that.
But I guess it doesn't read that way for everyone involved :D
-
Oh, just the first sample is free. That's how you get 'em hooked, you know. >:D

I did indeed read it as tame and neutral, the relax was slightly sarcastic. I do appreciate the defense though.
And Shift: Yes, just like on Hulu, which re-hooked me and made me buy all the DVDs of this show that I have in the first place

alright just checking. Wouldn't want any misunderstandings.

Fair enough. I guess I could see how that could be effective.

Beat you to it, LostTimeLord. Actually, we can assume they've received the products, now that they've put up pictures. I'm thinking my prediction of shipping week was correct.
-
Not bad, not bad. I'm still thinking of shipping starting next week but I'd love to be proven wrong.
-
I guess they're somehow acknowledging the change in cover formats by putting this out…?

You might be right, but if you are, I'm betting early next week. Friday and Monday are my best bets.

So the first two Voyage One episodes will be online this Saturday?

Only if you pre order from Right Stuf as that's the only retailer that has announced they are doing this.
