Wow, we are getting to those episodes pretty soon too.
Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)
-
-
Well guys, this weekend will be our last chance until February. If we don't hear anything about One Piece at this convention (with Chris Sabat, Brina Palencia, and Patrick Seitz in attendance) then things are looking dimmer for a Season 4 announcement. Cross your fingers everybody!
-
FUNi also does that whole New Years thing as well…
-
If you want to check the quality of FUNimation's subtitles yourself, just look at the library episodes in Hulu's One Piece section (the ones labeled as "Season 3" and earlier in here).
-
FUNi also does that whole New Years thing as well…
Eh, that seems more for live action these days and C-rated shows these days.
-
Does anyone think Funimation is going to start releasing on Blu-Ray when the series makes the transition to HD?
Its kind of redundant having HD masters and only releasing on DVD.
-
This was discussed before on my previous forum site.
It is likely they will release Bluray. They released the movie on Bluray,
this shows FUNimation has the resources to release One Piece on Bluray disc.It is very likely.
-
@LUFFY#1:

I don't know. It seem like they tend to save the best for last like they did this past year. Hetalia was one of the shows they announced and I wouldn't count that as C-rated.
Still personally I would like to hear about One Piece episodes pass 200 before New Years but it be cool a bit to start off the year with One Piece dub news.
-
I contemplate skipping the Skypiea arc while purchasing the DVDs though.
It was extremely long and wasn't as good as some of the others. -

It depends on masters received and if they have the rights to.
-

It was extremely long and wasn't as good as some of the others. The Skypiea Arc gets a lot of bad credit for some reason as an arc. It may be the fact that it's right after the amazing Alabasta, and before the Davy Back Fight and huge Water 7 Arc…But Skypiea is a really nice arc.
It does have some moments where it drags on, however after marathoning it, it doesn't really seem that long. And as for you saying that it wasn't as good as some other arcs, while that is your own opinion I felt it was a very nice arc. It had a great adventure feel to it, you could watch Jaya and Skypiea together with little knowledge of One Piece and still enjoy it. And also later down the line the arc may become important
Also you have J. Michael Motherfucking Tatum as Eneru soo....
-
Water 7 and Davy Back Fight wasn't very bad. Water 7 was very good.
I was probably watching 8 episodes a day when I got to Skypiea.I didn't really start liking it till the end. When they told the story of Noland.
-
Skypiea is good. You should feel bad.
-
Many arcs I don't like seem to get better at the end. I didn't love SkyPiea or Thriller Bark, but I did really enjoy the end.
-
so we know that season 3 4th voyage will have episodes 183-195…I had kinda wondered if they'd make it 183-194 and 195-206 to round up season 3...that way 207-219 could've been all of davy back in one release...
-
I contemplate skipping the Skypiea arc while purchasing the DVDs though.
It was extremely long and wasn't as good as some of the others.Double what MD said. Funi seem to have gotten lucky with the 13 episodes per set thing since the episodes that do drag are mostly on S3V2 while the other two so far are good. They are easy to marathon too thanks to that Marathon Feature.
I say you might as well watch them if you are going to spend on average 30 bucks a pop.
Also double what MD said, J. Michael Motherfucking Tatum as Eneru. Enough said. haha

Just so you know, I also enjoyed the show quite a bit, and have the first couple of manga volumes as well. It's great you have a keen interest in spreading the word on a deserving show. BUT, hijacking a thread to advertise is not the way to go about it; if nothing else, it's gonna egg off the people you're trying to reach out to and make them less inclined to give your recomendation a try. Here are two suggestions:
1: Use your signature to show what you like and endorse; include a link to the legal subs on Funi's website or YouTube channel and a small, horizontal picture if you can manage it. As long as it's all legal, you're good to go.
2: If you can't find an audience in the Other Manga/Anime thread, there are other forums you can try, like ToonZone.
Now maybe we can put this matter to rest, eh?
-
Way to bring up a two-week-old post.
-
-
To rest, I say! To rest.
How about that One Piece eh? Too bad the next DVD set was pushed back till January. I would have loved to watch Luffy beat up God right before Christmas…wait...that didn't sounds right....

Remember, that dialogue was written before anyone knew that J. Michael Motherfucking Tatum was gonna play Eneru.
Now everything's godlike about him.
-
It was awesome when Luffy asked him what gives him the right to destroy Skypiea.
Luffy sounded so serious about it. -

Im sorry for continueing this conversation but what do you mean by a small horizontal picture?
-
I meant a banner, sorry. You know, something like 400 × 100 pixels, pictures of the kendo girls in action, that sort of thing
So yeah, I'm enjoying having the Skypiea arc on nice DVD's; I've had to suffice with the CN rips far too long!

They're images in your signature, about this size, that advertise something. in this case: The One Piece Podcast.
In your case: Whatever you were talking about earlier that was Off topic.
Now, about One Piece…
-
Took a little while, but I finally finished the entire third voyage. The first set of episodes is kind of meh overall, but the last four or so episodes in the set are worth the wait. Truly some of the best episodes in the season. And Tatum really does Eneru justice. Although I listened to a few bits of the original and I forgot how awesome he is as well.
-
oh, hell, he's a worse poster than I thought
anyway, someone point me to a site where I can buy the first season or two for cheap - I'm thinking of getting 'em for my nieces and nephews

Hmm, I'm pretty sure you can't get them for much lower than 30 bucks on Rightstuff or Amazon.
Although I recall someone mentioning a site that had them for 20-25, but I don't remember…
-
Amazon got Season 1, Parts 1 - 3 for $24 - $26 each.

The problem is just as you said. The picture is too big.
You have to resize it to fit into accordance to AP sig limitations.
Isn't there a thread around this joint for stuff like this?
-
Will anyone be skipping certain arcs when purchasing the series?
I will probably be skipping Jaya and Sky Island. When OP gets to the War arc which includes Impel down I will be skipping it. G8 those is a definite buy.
-
To the other poster.
You can easily get One Piece BRAND NEW for around 11 bucks, and that is with shipping.
The first seasons are incredibly cheap.

haha I don't think you have but a lot of others have. haha Seems to be giving more reason to keep it. haha
Oh wow. I didn't think you can get One Piece that cheap. Still I like to get the DVDs first so it is kind of worth getting them. If anything the commentaries are fun to listen to.

First two episodes of Davy Back Fight are still season 3…?
Actually, I don't care.
NEW DUBBED MATERIAL IN FEBRUARY!!!
-
Just remember guys, these were still dubbed back in 2007.
Courtesy of Mike McFarland.

NEW DUBBED MATERIAL IN FEBRUARY!!!
We don't know how many episodes are on the set, though I doubt they'd make the set 11 episodes…
Something concerns me though. This release is literally only 3 weeks after the prior release. That doesn't sound like a huge turnaround... I wonder why they're rushing the rest of Season 3 out instead of giving them some more time to dub the DBF...
-
The running time says 325 minutes, so that would make 13 episodes. If it does, that means we'll also get dubbed Kokoro No Chizu! :D

Huh… strange...
I hope we get some more info as we get closer to release... But yeah, Dubbed Kokoro no Chizu!

well i wouldn't take that listed time as fact since:
http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/ISsxp3BvIv=xVdxm5-/browse/item/86134/4/0/0117-130 ≠ 320 minutes
-
I am taking run-time with a grain of salt.
-
I really like the way Kokoro no Chizu was done. The video was really well done after the 1 minute and 10 second mark. So much was pieced together for that opening. I really like it.
I am sort of new with purchasing anime, I use to pirate everything. One Piece is going to be an exception. This price sounds way too good to be true.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00143XE64/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=newAt around $10 with free shipping is really cheap. The person has really good feed back.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/at-a-glance.html/ref=olp_merch_name_1?ie=UTF8&isAmazonFulfilled=1&asin=B00143XE64&marketplaceSeller=0&seller=A2LCOF6C3HGT6MAnother problem is that they are Brand new, with Amazon having the official description of it on there site.
Demon, I think you are correct on the Nakama thing. I watched the fansub episode where they said they were going to stop translating certain words. Nakama was one.
I think for that scene where the building came down, friend, Crewmember, comrade would have worked. I started out with Funimation dubs and they translated it as friend.
I didn't care for the Voice acting much but I do think it seems a little more emotional with the translation as friend. It is funny that if you look up the definition for Nakama, One Piece comes up. It isn't like One Piece invented the word. -
I really hope Funi can get the HD widescreen eps for 207-228.
-
While on the subject of HD.
Did anyone think that Water 7 seemed animated better than most arcs?
I also thought it was funny they had Nami wearing that shirt with the tie.
I think that is one of her better outfits. Definitely not low cut. Haha
