Awesome episode, I just would prefer better music in the finale.
450: ''The Escape Team's Hopeless Situation - The Forbidden Technique 'Venom Demon'''
-
-
For those mentioning the weirdness of no explanation from Magellan: keep in mind that in the anime, we now have Mr. 3 explaining what happens.
So manga=Magellan explaining the new mixture of poisons able to bring down Impel Down itself, and anime=Mr. 3 explaining how his wax's protective capabilities simply "wore off."
In other words, the anime staff changed the explanation.
Anyways, it was a very good episode: I like how Ivankov showing up makes more sense, the still-shots 3/4s of the way through the episode before Ivankov's hell wink actually made sense, and the Gear third attack was AMAZINGLY well done.
Had the episode just ended with the scene of whale-sharks/luffy and co going "We're saved!!!", then it would've been a better ending. Oh well, though: here's to hoping they do an even better job on the scene to end all scenes next episode.
P.S. Over a chapter's worth of content was covered this ep!

Anyways, loved the Gear 3rd animation.
-
Loved the animation on Gear Third and Venom Demon.
Oh man, I can't wait for the end of the next episode.
-
Awesome episode. I love those fucking whales.
The jump in animation quality during the Gear 3 scene was insane. It felt like I was watching Movie 10 for a second there!
-
P.S. The venom demon looked MUUUUUCH cooler in the anime than in the manga.

Yeah it looked a bit comical in the manga the anime version is just badass. Two good episodes in a row though, that has to be a mistake. Now let's hope they can keep this pace up. 1 chapter per episode just about works for One Piece because there's so much going on in a single chapter.
-
The Gear Third scene was AWESOME.
-
Yeah it looked a bit comical in the manga the anime version is just badass.
Now that's just a big pile of bs.
-
Now that's just a big pile of bs.
Ehhh yeah I gotta agree to a certain extent: while anime venom demon>>>>manga venom demon, it wasn't "comical"!
…Unless you want to be technical and say everything in One Piece is "comical," cuz it technically is. <3
-
Coolwhalesharks at the end big plus, demon was ruined and ivanikov is always nasty. Bloody magma demon lol, stupid animation people.
-
A bit comical =/= comical.
-
Wow, two well-animated, well-paced and really epic episodes in a row? Surely this must be some sort of mistake!
So yeah, I really liked this episode. Especially the animation for the Gigant Stamp. That was absolutely amazing. Magellan's Venom Demon was pretty epic as well. I didn't particularly care for how it ended, but that's forgivable considering how good everything else in this episode was.
-
Okay, here's my thoughts on the episode.
Bad
- Did Jim release a freaking Kamekameha wave? That shit looked nothing water! WTF! My tone is not mad or angry. I laughed at the entire thing.
-Vemon Demon looked like big pile of dry clay that was slowly moving around. That stiff stupid pose he was doing 90% of this looked like it was giving the impression of "I'm a big BAD monster! Immagonna eat u! Roar! Roar!". Personal stuff aside, it was stiff as hell. No movement with the mouth whatsoever with the mouth too… I mean, after Hydra, I was expecting more
-Croc and Daz were boring... Then agian... They are boring here. The cookie cutter animation didn't help much. Then agian... this is typical OP animation. Not sure if this deserves a negative.
- WTF! Just happened!? Suddenly... continue to positives
Good
- Venom Demon has animation! The minute I saw Magellan's face, I thought I was watching another episode. Even sound sounded different o_O. Epic as hell. The attacks, the blocking, the dust cloud effects! Shame it didn't last long until he became a big boring stiff agian.. Why can't we have nice things? Honestly, I thought this scene would have been better if it was in an epsiodewith consistently moving animation... because well.. It stands out way too much from the rest of the shit in this episode.
+They didn't use that CG crap for Croc's sand. I always thought it looked a bit off in this decade. They should draw the sand more often, but with a bit more detail.
+Bon looked like Bon for once. Well, that's all I could say.
+Even though Venom Demon looked like crap for most of the episode, I cannot help but chuckle at his face when he saw everyone escaping on a bunch of happy looking sea animals. He's like "What.... the... hell... is this?
+The summoning of the demon with the face and on camera looked terrifying. It's really too bad what happened afterwards.
Overall, I liked this episode for one scene. That is all.
-
What a fantastic episode, im really happy with how they handled venom demon, it was great. And as everyone else has mentioned that gear third and venom demon clash was one of the best moments for the anime in quite a while IMO.
Oh and i was wondering if anybody could get any high res images of magellan and venom demon from this episode, that would be great.
-
kinjite is the name of the poison, the move is called venom demon
is kinjite the japanese word for prohibited move?
from this pic,i think it is
-
is kinjite the japanese word for prohibited move?
Looks like it:
Kinjite (禁じ手 or 禁手 lit. forbidden hand) are various fouls that a sumo wrestler might commit that will cause him to lose the bout.
-
Good to see anime is being as fun as ever.
And that Shida guy should get a raise or something.
-
I honestly don't understand how people can still moan when the episode was this damn good. I swear people just moan for the sake of it sometimes.
Anyway, awesome episode, defiantly exceeded the manga in some areas.
Oh God I am going to cry like a bitch next episode…..I mean shed one manly tear. :ermm:
-
-
-
I can now clearly say ID wasn't a dissapointment. The episode was damn great except for the last two stillshots. Venom demon was impressive.
-
I cannot wait for the next episode. It's going to be a real tear-jerker for me.
-
Hopefully we can kep up the pace of good pacing and great animation we have going right now, All of 448 should be covered next episode and usually the Anime does emotional moments like this right.
-
It was a good episode. The animation was incredibly in the Gear Third scene.

-
by far one of the best episodes of impel down. hell infact from sabondy arc.
this episode is all i need to prove to ma dipstick friend that one piece is better than naruto.
still i loved the entire episode. animation was great and still shots only used when needed.
2 great episodes and improving. keep it up taoi -
As has been mentioned multiple times before, these last two episodes have been phenomenal.
The gripes that people have brought forth about 450, with the exception of one (music… and maybe that silly Daz Bones kick animation), I simply can't relate with.
-
That gear 3rd fight was the best animation I've seen in a long time.
Awesome episode.
-
Lets hope they go three for three and make the next episode great too.
I'm sure they will, One Piece never fails with the emotional moments. -

-
That's your opinion. I completely disagree, and most people liked it.

+1
that episode is great
-
The discretion shots got a bit irksome towards the end, but 405 was pretty good. I was actually impressed with how they managed to get an entire episode, with no recap, out of that chapter, and it didn't feel draggy at all to me.

except the part where the venom deman appeared….. []
that just screamed, "Stall!!" for me.
-
405 is definitely in my top 5 favorite eps of all time.

You're forty-five episodes off.
-
The episode felt slightly dragged out, but not as much as some past Impel Down episodes.
Other then that it was great, IMO. So glad it didn't continue the pattern:
447: Awesome.
448: Dragged out and just overall "Meh."
449: Awesome.405 was overall extremely dissappointing, aside from Luffy's absolute dispair at the end.
I disagree. There was strange drawing in that episode, but it was done very well aside from that.
-

That was a decent stall. The bad stalls is every scene where you see the demon stiffly moving with his arms in the air with no change in facial expression whatsoever. I suppose they were saving time for…

omg!!! :w00t:
.., The only scene the episode.
-
Most of 405 was great, but I just hated how Takagi did the final scene. Although it might have been the Episode Director's decision. I'm not really sure.
-
I hated how Takagi's Kuma looked like absolute shit at the end there. Inoue, Tate, and Yokoyama seem to be the only animation directors who can actually draw him looking like his manga counterpart.
-
i just realized that them leaving Impel down means there will be new theme song shortly. :D
-
Is there even any confirmation of a new theme song? Keep in mind that even though theme 11 only deals slightly with Impel Down, we DID get #12 by the time we had reached the arc at least.
So, end of Impel Down =/= automatic Theme #13 for next episode.
My guess is that we'll get a new theme not next episode, but 3-4 from now.
-

That as well, he only looked good in Tomita and Onishi's scenes.

Thank god…I'm so sick of that opening.
-
No, you are all wrong. Before we get a really NEW opening we need another one. The one so bbbbbad it will sign the total collapse of One Piece opening. And THEN the opening will be reborn and we will get some really One Piece(as an adjective here) opening. Like Brand New World.
Next one will be some crap shouted by shrieking cunts and will open us a filler arc inside the Tarai current, because the prolonging is needed for War to be Dynamic. And the filler…how about what happened to Mugivaras and then escapees falling asleep and dreaming of adventures. With Ivankov. -

Wow, we agree on something. I hated how they handled Luffy's breakdown. It was just a bunch of distracting squirming. What that scene needed was a few good solid, simple movement of Luffy bumping his head into the ground with sounds to match focusing on the detail of the art of his face not the way he was moving.

I have to disagree, Luffy was having a major breakdown.
It wasn't supposed to be pretty, it was supposed to make you unconfortable.
I don't see how they could have done it any better. -
Like Hiroy, I'm laughing hard at the way the Jimbei attacks are interpreted
On the manga, he drags the water and throws it in a badass fashion
On the anime, he makes a little magical bubble come out from his hands and then transform into a wave, as if it was always there, what the heck? And on the manga, he throws the water with such strenght and precision that it looks like a spear.
On the anime, he makes a little bubble from his hands that suddenly turns into a spear from out of nowhereHeh

MKCE-aEPrvU
But in all seriousness, I really do hope we can get a whole new opening, but it seems like we're stuck with the current one until the end of the arc. We can still hope.
As for a filler arc inside the Tarai current…damn, that'd be stretching it. Maybe they'll sail into a time warp where they keep on repeating the same half hour for eight episodes straight while time remains still outside the current. On topic though, this episode was great, and I am really curious as to how Toei will be handling the SH coverstories...they only have 2 pages a SH to work with. Hopefully they can remain as entertaining as the previous episodes dedicated to them.
