Chapter 578 - A Present to the New Age

Awesome chapter when it was in spoilers…

Even more awesome when it gets scanslated. I can see this arc ending in a couple chapters now that Luffy is on his way out of it. I'd like to see how the 2 conflicts play out between Sengoku VS BB Pirates and the WB Pirates + Croc VS Akainu, but if it ends up gradually closing, then that's fine too I guess. However, I do wanna know what the hell happened in the last panel on pg 16-17! That was a mighty big ass explosion. Maybe Akainu's lava fist he sent up towards the three came back down and splashed on his confrontation!?

As for people saying Luffy's hat is officially lost in this chapter....well, not really. We don't have enough evidence to say such. Sure, because we last saw it on the ground and not one panel afterwards doesn't mean anything. For all we know, it got blown to the sky along with Jimbei and Luffy when Croc Sabled them skyward....

...maybe one of the escapees might end up catching it and handing it back!? But then again, I can also see where people might say it's an opening lead for someone to retrieve and return it.

This arc just never knows when to stop quitting in it's insanity…which makes me think of one thing: if Law is there, then did any of the other Supernovas make it to Marineford?

Also, everytime I see croc in the manga, I'm always mesmerized by the awesome job Oda does in drawing his sand. The stippling is almost perfect. I don't know how he does it, everytime I try stippling I get tired and stop. But that's why oda is awesome.

Also, I think folks are extremely anxious to see the Straw Hats reunite and get to Fishman Island.

Personally, I think another major character could be killed before this Arc is over with.

Oh I'm quite sure that we'll see some others (if not all of them) pop up. It wouldn't suprise me if it would happen in the classic shonen way where page you get a sequence of "holy shit xxx is here!…holy shit yyy is here too!!!" situations. If that would turn out to be try this might aswell be the reason why we didn't see them yet because it would be too much for this chapter (which contains more developments than a years worth of Bleach chapters and more awesomeness than the entire Bleach manga).

Luffys hat lying on the ground is the final image of the war we will see. Then after the war someone will give it back to luffy ad it won't be a big deal. Also anyone consider that kizaru and hancock and etc. Are still fighting offscreen? We aren't seeing ALL of marineford every chapter you know. Untill I saw Marco in the chap I just assumed he was holding off kizaru again.

If anything it seems more likely that since Garp is not being held down by Sengoku anymore, he'll take the opportunity to go after Akainu like he wanted to originally.

It wouldn't surprise me if Akainu had another Terminator-esque moment where he's incapacitated all the people attempting to slow him down, and ends up getting stopped by Garp right before he can take out Law's ship.

This whole arc has been total epic imo, but anyways I shall focus on this chapter.

Loved crocodile, he's a living definition of bad ass. Glad to see Sengoku actually doing some damage, it was getting quite pathetic that he was the fleet admiral, Akainu seems well more suited for the job. Perhaps BB's crew will take him down as they took whitebeard down? I was quite surprised with Law showing up, but that was cool. I noticed some people think he's a bad guy etc since hes a rival of luffy. I personally think its a mutual respect he might have for Luffy with the whole "I will be the one that finds one piece. I will be pirate king" scene when them 2 + kidd pwned the marines. Also last note, I think (well more like want to think) that the hat being left behind could be the link hancock needed to reunite with Luffy?

What do you guys think??

Just a few things:

-Sengoku's shockwave is most likely just part of his DF ability - a reference to the "buddhist palm". It may also be haki, who knows, I'm just glad to see he's got something besides "Look, now I'm a statue". The ability to blast the entire BB crew back onto themselves is no joke.

-HELL YES. I'M A DOCTOR. I certainly didn't see that coming - I thought if any of the supernovas showed it would be Kidd. Apparently Oda likes Law just as much as the rest of us. It looks like Luffy won't be going home with the revolutionaries like a lot of peole thought. I think Law will keep Luffy hidden underwater for as long as possible, and help him gather the rest of the crew. They can't exactly go back to SA or any place where Luffy's face will be recognized - his bounty is gonna SKYROCKET after all of this. If he got 300 mill for the Enies Lobby incident then this…good lord.

-Akainu finally shows his true weakness - singlemindedness. He is arguably the most powerful marine asset right now and is wasting his time chasing Luffy's comatose body right into the ENTIRE WB PIRATES. I know he's an admiral, but there's Haki users and logias in that bunch. He is biting off more than he can chew...but I think we're gonna watch him chew it right up. As a matter of fact - suppose Akainu is chasing Luffy on purpose because he wants Sengoku to be defeated, and then take his place as Fleet Admiral. Smoker gets promoted to Admiral.

-LOL Jimbei. "Oh no! I managed to get you even MORE wounded Luffy!" Bwahahahahaha. He needs to stop all that talk about protecting people if he's just gonna do the opposite. Hilarious.

-Luffy's hat...hey...hey!!! SOMEBODY GET HIS HAT! Dammit Jimbei, you can't even protect a piece of clothing!

-Inazuma and Ivankov are down...they're getting left behind...this makes me sad.

The twist with Law is a bit weird, for me atleast. But it's cool to see him back and my respect for him has risen.

Yeah I agree with the part about Law, he's going to become the "friendly" rival, who fights against Luffy but respects him and would always play fair (slightly similar to Smoker and Luffy in Arabasta, I know Smoker is a Marine but you get the point). As opposed to the other rival, Kid, who would probably not move a finger for others as long as he's safe. We will probably see some interesting dynamics between the three captains.

And your idea with the hat is quite interesting! It has become pretty complicated for them to reunite, but this could help out a bit.
Talking of the hat, I hope Rayleigh's Vivre-card is not in there or Luffy might have a problem.

well just mistakes i mean blood and scars seem to disspear all the time in manga due to just forgetting or not checking what just did ect. Heck blackbeard missing teeeth move allt eh time and in one panal in this chapter he has ALL his teeth

i wouldn't over think it like some. like omg he was completely healed then croc attacked and he is super bloody. cause heck in the pic after crocs attack he still looks blood less as well. then later he is all super bloody and we see no attacks. its just inconsitancy in drawing. with so much going on its not hard to happen.

Î dont know if it was mentioned before, but Im a bit worried, how the WB pirates have steadily been downgraded. I mean, at the beginning of the war they have fought the admirals and shichibukai one-on-one. In the last chapters they were just standing around watching their captain been slaughtered. (The chasm between them shouldnt be a obstacle to them).
And now ALL OF THEM + crocodile facing akainu. And after all the hype akainu wont be going down in the next chapter, so he will hold his own against all the division commanders.

While I agree with your point about artistic glitches I would disagree that the Strawhat thing is one. For the simple reason that the sure amount of three panels with a lone Strawhat are a bit too much for me to consider it an anything but clear intention by Oda. Especially the 2nd and the 3rd panels. The situations would literally be the same without a Strawhat in there. Yet Oda wanted to include it there and I doubt that he did it without any reason.

I do not think though that it will play such a major role like leading a complete (rescue) arc for the Strawhat. But I'm sure that it is intentionally done to have a "you forgot your Strawhat" moment by I don't know whom yet. Wouldn't surprise me though if it would be another rookie that does it. :ninja:
