Wait till you see his real real real form.

So… about that new anime project... any idea when that's gonna start or was it just those commercial things??
-
I just finished it.
To be completely honest, I'm surprised he wasn't a kid, considering his attitude.
Overall, despite what I said, that was a pretty intense fight. And Zodd's interference at the end just made everything just that more…epic.
Also, the Skull Knight. There's no way he can't be awesome. -
@Cuddles:
I'm sorry, but there's no way I'm able to take that form seriously.
It's like mental retardation on steroids.Who? Wyald?
Oh man, after an incident a few months ago, I cannot look at Wyald in the same way anymore.
-
I just finished the part where Griffith talks to 'God.'
I noticed the shape that God takes, and the purpose it serves.
[hide]FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF–-----------------------------
Don't you hate it when you had an idea you thought was original, but not only did someone else think of it before you, but you also can't prove that you thought of the idea on your own?
This is like the hundredth time that's happened to me.[/hide] -
Wasn't that chapter cut? Or is it still around on the interwebs?
-
That chapter still survives in the net, some scan still have it.
-
This post is deleted!
-
can anyone link the chapter you guys are talking about?
-
The lost chapter (#83) originally took place right after these scenes during the Eclipse (read pages 56-63): http://view.thespectrum.net/series/berserk-volume-01.html?ch=Volume+13&page=56
Download the lost chapter here: http://www.evil-genius.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1268I think it's pretty awesome personally. And yeah, most scans online skip it since they got their scans from the volumes which did not include this chapter.
-
Miura cut it and said that he revealed too much too early. I can't wait until this enters the story later on, though.
-
This ''Lost Chapter'' made me more anxious to know about the plans of this ''God'' about Griffith.
-
The Idea of Evil doesn't have a "plan" at all.
It's basically a force of nature that was brought into existence because humanity needed something, anything, to justify just why so many horrible things happened in their lives. That in turn gave it enough power/influence to create the Godhand, who then go about creating even more misery which leads to humans selling their souls out of despair in order to become apostles, and in following their one rule, "do as thou will" they cause havoc throughout the physical plane and make humanity's livelihood even worse because of the type of people who fit the criteria to transcend in the first place.
As a result, humans see all that's wrong with the world and again, need to give themselves a reason for why things are so terrible in the world of Berserk. The Idea of Evil is pretty much a vicious cycle given form and an ability to forever keep itself sustained.
-
Well, I think I have expressed myself in a wrong way and forgot a few important things, but it's alright anyway.
-
Vol. 11 is the first volume of Berserk where the pacing gets a little out of whack, but all the overdone Wyald shit is worth it when you see that they spent a whole volume fighting tooth and nail, with a vicious monster, that was actually a tiny old man.
It perfectly communicates the whole apostle thing better then anywhere else in the manga. -
More musings
[hide]What I find fascinating is that whenever there's some sort of time skip, I'm a little disappointed.
When Berserk does this (somewhat), the only thing I can think of is "Holy shit! There's possibly two years of awesome shit that the author is going to share with us!"
Given his penchant for doing things out of order, this gives me hope.
I will state that even if he doesn't explore those two years, I'll be fine with it.
It's also cool how Guts' personality makes complete sense after the flashback.
At first I was like "Wow. He really hates demons. I hate the demons too, but this guy is really zealous."
Then Miura draws hell on earth. Not the maelstrom, motherfucking hell in a handbasket.
The comparison to a slaughter took the words right out of my mouth. It really felt like the Band of Hawks were reduced to insects. After that show, I'm waiting for Guts to stab the Idea of Evil in the eye, make it apologize for making him hit it, stab it again, get complete and total custody of its kids, beat them, then kill it by making it choke on Griffith, because goddamn if Guts has to settle for less.
Also, considering the circumstances, Corkus probably got the least terrible death.
Man, I miss Corkus. And the rest of them for that matter.
I do have a couple of nitpicks (like the king apparently needing to be a pedophile in order for the story to work when I thought he was a pretty great antagonist as is when he found out Griffith did his daughter), but overall a great epic.[/hide] -
IoE didn't really have anything to do with it. It was all Griffith.
-

Yeah, but if it wasn't for the IoE, Griffith wouldn't have become Femto, correct?
At the very least, Guts isn't going to waste the opportunity to get rid of the source of the cycle Vanessa mentioned, since his haunting by apostles and such are connected to it. -

Only in this way could the Idea of Evil really be destroyed. In any case, it is weighty task indeed, and one that I cannot see how Guts can accomplish.

Highly, highly doubt Guts will destroy the IoE, He may succeed against Griffith and Skully against the leader of the Godhand (whose name escapes me) but I'm pretty certain the IoE will live on.

Hell, even this is doubtful given the current pacing of the manga. But it will be so satisfying if Griffith ever finally gets his pretty face bashed in.
-
I realize I may have jumped the gun.
The romantic part of me wants Guts to kill IoE, but once I calmed down I realized that it's a lot more realistic to gain peace through killing the God Hand, which might cause the brand to disappear.
Sorry, got caught up in the moment. -
I've been marathon reading this since Christmas break started on Saturday.
I'm on volume 27, and I'm really impressed with Ganiska right now. -
I just finished Golden Age. I think I need to go cry now.
At least the series is still going and didn't end like the anime. -
So yeah, I'm in the middle of the 'Birth Rite' arc.
I must admit that I'm pleased to see the Vatican troops not portrayed as some giant, bloodthirsty army, but rather as a troop of softies with a commander that doesn't really earn any respect and a fanatic that may not be so much as evil as lacking any sound judgment. I'm not even speaking out of some deep seated anti-theism or whatever, I just don't think I see any portrayals like that too often.
I think Mozgus is the only fictional character who could make me drop secularism and take up the cloth
Also…Puck? What have they done to ya'?
Final Note: Did anyone else get a little annoyed that the comic cut to Puck on the crow while Guts was fighting off that bug army? Just wondering.
EDIT: Bleh, random fact:
[hide]
If my hunch is correct, that bird suit torture guy should be safe from the plague.
Funny what you can learn in entymology class.[/hide] -
According to the Berserk twitter thing, there's gonna be a big announcement on January 8th regarding the anime.
http://twitter.com/#!/berserk_projectThe twitter later said "Starting in 2011, Berserk gets going. Starting from the "A Berserk you've never seen befpre" TV commercials.
-
@Cuddles:

You're kidding right.
-
What has it been 20 years? I can't tell the future but when berserk finally gets Griffith I forsee the most gruesome death ever recorded.
-
If you think it won't be a bittersweet moment of returned humanity followed by closing eyes you're a fool.
-
If anyone thinks Griffith's role in the series is to be manhandled and demolished by Guts in the future, they've got another thing coming. Don't get contrasts and characterizations
-
@Holy:

Lately I've been getting that feeling, it's probably going to be some sort of surreal fight in the astral plane.
-
@JERK:
You're kidding right.
Yes.
Guy's a freak though, that's for sure. I'd like to think that I'd stick to my values while being tortured/intimidated, but it would be foolish to want to be put to the test.
EDIT: I just realized the possible implication.
The joke was that a guy like him could probably scare and torture me into a broken mess, sad to say. I didn't mean to imply any fanboyism or anything.
Also, I know that fictional characters can not actually harm me.
EDIT 2: On the topic of Guts and Griffith, to be completely honest I'm less worried about their confrontation and more worried about that Behelit that's sticking to him.
If Guts is indeed the next intended apostle/God Hand/whatever else, then we all know that he's going to be put in a situation where he's going to want to use it.
And he just picked up that swordsman wannabe kid (from where I am).
I honestly don't know if Guts is going to die, but that's only because I think the whole point of him being a struggler is at least to give him a chance to defy causality, no matter how improbable that may be. -
I just finished the Tower of Conviction Arc.
[hide]HOLY MOTHER OF FUCKING SHIT THAT WAS SHITASTIC AND FUCKARIFFIC!
…
How else would you describe a situation where Guts enduring that hellstorm until the very end outweighed the mass slaughter of peasants and the rebirth of Griffith?
So fucked up, but it was almost like nothing compared to the fact that Guts still manages to spit in the face of everything trying to kill him.
"You would sacrifice thousands to save one woman?"
FUCK YEAH HE WOULD!! NOW HURRY UP AND DIE ALREADY YA' OLD FASHIONED LOONEY!![/hide]
Saw Griffith make his debut against the Kushan:
[hide]All Griffith did the whole time was kill the commander. That was it. The rest of the army was completely annihilated by his new servants. He was not touched, nor did he do anything further.
His victory was assured the moment his sword killed that general, branding his army as an enemy.
Miura certainly leaves no questions as to who is the most powerful player on the field.
And Guts can't even kill Zodd quite yet.
I guess it's like the Whitebeard war, or when Anderson had to kill all those zombies to get to Alucard: One does not simply capture the king on their first move.[/hide] -
I'm planning on starting Berserk very soon. I was wondering, should I read chapter 83 or just skip it? I've been reading about Berserk a lot and read that chapter 83 is considered a lost chapter… well you know the rest. Please help.
-
Read it, log it away in your mind. It may be retconned, but it may also provide insight into Berserk's world that you would never had otherwise. That one chapter explains a WHOLE LOT. And that may be part of why Miura decided to omit it / retcon it.
-
As much as I love Berserk with Miura's irregular release schedule I wonder if we will ever see the end of it. Gutts is not even near Griffith right now and we have the whole island arc ahead of us.
But I'm curious to see how much Gutts can still improve strength-wise. Him using the Berserk-armor while maintaining his consciousness would probably be a huge step forward. Now I just hope Isidro will be able to improve as well. With Puck we have more than enough comic relief in this manga.
-
Will Guts ever surpass Griffith in strength? After watching Katanagatari I've become more open to the idea he'll beat Griffith without having to get a DBZ-style pump-up. He's already stronger than any other regular human in the series, on par with the toughest apostles, the strongest of whom (Zodd) isn't even a match for Griffith. I have a hard time imagining Guts could believably achieve a level of strength beyond the apostles and Skull Knight to overpower Griffith. At least on his own.
-
I don't think Griffith got much stronger himself, necessarily. I'm sure he's on a higher level then he was before, yes, but strength isn't his divine characteristic. It's charisma. Making it through the hoards of Griffith's followers will probably prove to be the greatest challenge.

Gutts is still below Grunbeld's par. He is not on the level of the toughest apostles. And Zodd still overwhelms him in apostle form.
-
How does everyone think a cooperation battle with Guts and Schierke would go? Or what do you think the toughest enemy they could fight right now together?

Hm maybe strength wasn't the right word. But right now I don't think he has nearly enough at his disposal to pose a threat to Griffith and his army. The thing is: how can he still improve battle-wise? The berserk armor was certainly a step forward because pain and fatigue won't hold him back in a fight anymore..but it's a double-edged sword. Gutts combat experience is second to none in this series and his battle prowess is certainly his greatest feat. Still as JERK said even with all that he wouldn't be able to defeat Zodd in his apostle form let alone one of the five god hand.
And I doubt he would accept help in his fight against Griffith. This was and will always be his battle alone.
-
Just started it…. can't believe I didn't start this sooner. First chapter and I already really like it.
How is the anime version of this?

I've only seen the abridged series, but I can already tell you that they cut out a pretty good amount of scenes. or at least important scenes that I guess were considered too obscene or morbid for TV.
-
Aside from those cuts (and the "what the hell it's over?" moment at the end) it's still a pretty damn good anime in my opinion. Definitely something you should check out if you're into Berserk.
-
Anybody know when the new Berserk anime is starting?
-
There's suppose to be news of it coming up in January, so we'll have to wait and see.
-
This will be a 1 episode/week Tv Series right? So they won't be able to go the FMA Brotherhood route since the anime will progress too fast and the Hellsing Ultimate way is no option either because they can't just make breaks as they wish.
I wonder what point they will stop at. Falconia? -
Like I said a page or so ago, they stated there's gonna be an announcement on January 8th on the twitter page. The guy's been saying it like 3 languages and in 10 different ways and saying that he's glad there's been so much response.
Until then, we don't know anything except that it's an "anime project". Meaning it could be a series of OVAs, it could be airing on TV, it could be some other thing. They haven't said when it would start or how long it would be except that the appearance of the Skull Knight is in it, so then it has to at least go that far. Most likely farther.
-
Thanks for the info! I shall eagerly wait for January 8th…
-
Just curious, was there ever a point from Volume 24 until the recent chapters where Mule and Isidoro fought each other?
Reading the Flora and Guts discussion about the nature of the Behelith, it makes me think that the Behelith in Guts' possession may actually be intended for him. He tried to get rid of it but for some reason his intention was thwarted in this instance by Puck.
