Do you believe in the afterlife?
Afterlife
-
-
No.
In before a series of yes and no answers.
-
Yes .
-
Don't know.
-
Yes.
When you stop breathing, your soul will go on… -
Dunno, would be boring if it wasn't, right? Therefore I'll go believe in it^^
-
Not really. Though it would have been cool if there was.
-
Dunno. This is always a hard topic for me, I've debated and debated and debated in my mind the for and againsts, but always end up contradicting myself. not totally sure, but I like to think in some way, we will live on.
Though, that makes you think. Why don't we still feel conscious when we're knocked out ? Surely death is like being eternally unconscious, so how can we feel conscious in death, if not when knocked out.
Which brings religion into it. Whether or not you believe there's someone who'll
allow you to live on etc, -
Yep .
-
I believe in the kami.
-
The afterlife is a blissful dream brought on by our desperate fear of death.
So yes.
-
Yes .
-
Dunno, would be boring if it wasn't, right? Therefore I'll go believe in it^^
How would ceased existence be boring. How would it be anything.
You make no sense. And no I don't believe in one.
-
And yet your name is Tupac's Ghost .
-
@Kairouseki:
And yet your name is Tupac's Ghost .
There's no irony here because Tupac isn't dead.
-
Then how is he a ghost?
-
Yes .
-
@Kairouseki:
Then how is he a ghost?
It's an artistic statement.
-
@Tupac's:
How would ceased existence be boring. How would it be anything.

Did you understood my post? I said I would be boring if there wa sno afterlife and the life would just end once your dead.
Being nothing but dead is kinda boring I guess, or does it make fun?
As a ghost you should know, right? -
Did you understood my post? I said I would be boring if there wa sno afterlife and the life would just end once your dead.
Being nothing but dead is kinda boring I guess, or does it make fun?Being a ghost is a form of afterlife, if there was no afterlife you would cease to exist as an entity in any sense. It's impossible to be bored with something you won't and can't experience.
-
I do, dunno what's its gonna be like but I beleive there is one.
-
Afterlife's defeat the point of life if you ask me.
Life is too real and powerful a thing to just be some odd placement exam for some endless state of bliss or despair. I can't see it. -
Huh, I feel like its a waste of time, effort, and life to live without having to something to show for it in some other life. Though you'd say you're happy you lived but if theres no afterlife and you just cease to exist, there was no point.
I don't really care that life is like some placement exam to where you go, if heaven is as awesome and absolutely perfect as it sounds, I want to try to go there.
-
Huh, I feel like its a waste of time, effort, and life to live without having to something to show for it in some other life.
Why do you feel a need to leave some sort of vague mark in either real or after lives.
Though you'd say you're happy you lived but if theres no afterlife and you just cease to exist, there was no point.
Why does it need a grand mega-scale point.
What's wrong with living a fulfilling life, keeping good company, enjoying what you do etc.I don't really care that life is like some placement exam to where you go, if heaven is as awesome and absolutely perfect as it sounds, I want to try to go there.
What's the point in an afterlife anyway? It's as bereft of one as a mortal one.
-
What I was getting at is that people feel the need to feel like they lived. Unless you are content with being happy while you're alive, once you die you would cease to exist in all forms, physical and spiritual and lose all that you had.
Not saying you shouldn't bother living a good life, but if you don't beleive in an afterlife, weither you beleive its just a place of spiritual wandering or a reward/punishment for the type of life you lived, then what was the point of living at all if you can never really savor (or anguish in some cases) what you lived through?
Meh that's just my take on it, everyone should beleive as they will. Everyone has their own reasons for living.
-
What I was getting at is that people feel the need to feel like they lived.
How is anything I'm saying contradicting this though? I professed the same goal/desire to lead a life you feel is fulfilling. Same principle.
Unless you are content with being happy while you're alive, once you die you would cease to exist in all forms, physical and spiritual and lose all that you had.
So?

I'm sorry but the idea of needing an eternity to look back on life and review it like a film seems extremely silly and pointless.
-
I feel like you're just arguing for the sake of arguing.
Now THAT'S boring.
-
Like I said, beleive as you will. I'm entitled to my own views as much as anyone else.
I don't really care about looking back on my life. I want a life that's better then life on earth.
-
What's the meaning of having a life if there's an afterlife.
(implies the first parts a rehearsal for the second)@Zephos - I know what you're saying about leaving a mark not being important an all, but it would give most people comfort in death knowing they've achieved something monumental other than living a full life.
-
I don't believe in an after-life. Which sucks as the sheer concept of me dying scares the fuck out of me.
-
I like how everyone's giving really short answers to avoid a potential shitstorm. :P
And to the answer the question, yes.
-
It could turn to a religious thread really fast, but that's a given possibility given this belief ties into faith/religious beliefs or lack thereof.
-
after life - death
-
-
Why worry about death when we can't even prove life?
-
Yes I do believe there is something that will happen after you die, I don't want it just to be eternal darkness of sleep….
-
It wouldn't be darkness, it would be nothingness. Think about that .
-
Why worry about death when we can't even prove life?
What is this pseudo-profound mumbo jumbo?
-
I know what you're saying about leaving a mark not being important an all, but it would give most people comfort in death knowing they've achieved something monumental other than living a full life.
Or will they just torture themselves with self-convinced dissatisfaction for a hollow goal that leaves them feeling empty if they are even able to achieve it in the first place.
I feel like you're just arguing for the sake of arguing.
Now THAT'S boring.
Go back to lurking you milquetoast turd.
-
Yes. I consider myself an atheist, but only in the sense that I'm unwilling to believe that there is a God, as depicted by any religion today. Based on the fact that we have a constantly-expanding universe and black holes capable of providing any alternate universe imaginable, I see it as theoretically impossible that there couldn't be some sort of afterlife for us.
Perhaps just not in the way that we would all think. Not any of that heaven or hell shit, but maybe some sort of reincarnation, or a situation where you keep on living but are unconscious of your past life. In fact, I could talk about that to a great extent, but through the internet, it would just come off as much of spiritual nutcase mumbo-jumbo.
In short, if there is an afterlife, I'd say it's relatively close to the Hindu caste system (woops just contradicted myself, oh well), just in the sense that you'll be reincarnated, not as much about the whole karma aspect.
-
What is this pseudo-profound mumbo jumbo?
Just pseudo-profound mumbo jumbo, really, haha. Being a person who drifts in and out of solipsist thought at times, I feel that the very essence of existence can and should be questioned. Then I realize that it's irrelevant to life and move on.
-
Nope.
"Dead is dead."
-
No. Only mu. Nothingness.
read Death Note before all y'allBut seriously, no. Make your mark now, or not.
-
No.
dead is as dead as you get. there's no afterlife after it, kinda like how theres no after afterlife.
-
Ah, how silly of me. I forgot to say that I believe in an afterlife.
'tis my belief, but I believe in God. ^_^
-
Yes. I'm in no way religious, but I do believe that some part of our consciousness goes on. I didn't use to think so, but I had an experience a few years ago that abruptly changed my mind.
Although if it turns out that I'm wrong, it's not like I'll get the chance to be disappointed or anything.
-
I believe in 'God' (whatever it is) but I don't believe in an afterlife.
The curse of being someone that believes in both faith and science.
hangs head
Either that or I'm just afraid of my dead grandma watching me when I masturbate.
-
Ah, how much to say on this subject?
No, I do not believe in an afterlife.
Actually, I wonder why we're here in the first place.
We come from the fabric of space and stardust, the night sky.
And yet fate has dictated that we be pulled naked in screaming into the mortal realm, when there was no inherent problem with our natural, unborn state as part of the universe.
It's like pre-birth and death are both the perfect state of being, and our life (and strong survival instinct) are one big joke on us all.
…
On the bright side, there's no real harm in doing what you want every once in a while. Every cloud has a silver lining, right?
The only possibility I consider for an 'afterlife' is reincarnation, but the type where your particles are eventually recycled back into consciousness again. However, our identity will no doubt be obliterated in the process. Eternal life without the boredom of remembering it. -
I believe in both and neither. Try and make sense out of that.
-

Yeah, this is me.
I do think humans will eventually evolve out of the need for an afterlife, though…when we all become robots. :ninja:
