Don't know if anybody posted this already and I don't feel like looking through 100+ pages to find if someone did so forgive me if it's a repeat of something already said. This event might bring up something that Luffy has never had to face before; revenge. He's never had someone close to him die, so how is he going to deal with his probable hatred of Akainu? He's always been portrayed as the innocent idiot who fights to save/rescue/protect people. But what will happen if he suddenly has a want for revenge (assuming Akainu survives WB taking down the island)? Any thoughts on this?

The one who can change his whole body into a element like fire or light and avoid any attacks to the vulnerable human body = Logia,
The other can make you emit your powers like poison but your body itself isn't made of that substance which is called paramecia, small example: WB emitting quakes or Luffy becoming rubber but still be vulnerable for attacks like swords cuts and stuff.

Logia BECOMES an element in order to manipulate it. Fairly straightforward.
Paramecia simply has a THEME of some variety, lot of uses.
There's some overlap (like Mr 1's Supa-supa fruit for instance) where a paramecia type can change parts of their body into something but as a general rule, it's "become an element" versus "thematic manipulation of the world/yourself".

Logia fruits allow the user to turn into something from nature. Zoans can turn into animals. Paramecia are those that don't fit into any of those categories.

NO akainu and ace are BOTH logia fruit users (err … WERE logia fruit users). you can clearly see a hole in akainu's chest in chpater 574 from cannon fire. only logia's can "shapeshift" like that. the reason ace COULDN'T survive the hole in his chest is that is was made by admiral akainu, presumably with HAKI behind it, and the lava BURNED fire fist ace. i have to admit, while i do accept ace's death, i still have trouble with the idea that LAVA > FIRE
it appears each LOGIA user has an achilles heel, a counter-fruit out there on the grand line. some are obvious: ENEL(lightning)/rubber, AOKIJI(ice)/fire, CROCODILE(sand)/water. but in contravension with this theme, oda allowed a logia-user to be defeated by something OTHER than his "natural enemy." i mean, i'm not sure WHAT fire's natural enemy would be … maybe WIND/WATER ... which are to see (!!though everyone here on AP has their suspicions as to WHO ate those fruits!!). but LAVA, come on, seriously :(

About that Lava > Fire thing: I believe that if both had been in logia forms Ace wouldn't have died, BUT Akainu managed to hit (because of the Haki?) Ace and he can't (he was alreay half dead when Luffy saved him from execution platform) take hits like that, AND, he had like few seconds to get in front of Luffy and protect him from Akainu, and the hit came to his back, so he couldnt even use his hands to protect his own body. I still think Ace was an idiot not getting away from there but starting to argue about WB's greatness.
And those who keep hoping that Ace is alive, just let them, even I'm 99% sure that Ace is dead. We just have to wait coming chapters

Oda should of had all surviving pirates flee (including wb) to their ships and had Ace self-destruct to take down the whole island (after he was punched by akainu i mean). He knew he was going to die so why not go out with a bang (pun intended)…vegeta style?

Well BB can be physically been hit. so a super fast fighter with strong physcally attacks can do that. Luffy is awesome for that. He has to be grabbed by BB but from the distance he can land one powerful hit.
But I have to say a non DF would be a better match up for that

Damn, just saw a picture of Pixiv of Moria bringing Ace back as a zombie and having him attack Luffy. The artist seems to have removed it, or maybe it got removed for being too spoilery. Will keep my eyes peeled for a reupload. It was nothing special artistically but was just an idea that I had myself so it seemed kind of cool.

i would most likely attack the ship which brought ace to the scaffold with full force..there he wasnt SO protected as before and after that...so attacking than would have made the most sense... the NW-captns could have blocked ships from marineford which would have come to help...
