I started reading more than 5 years ago. I believe it is on the foxy pirates arc then. But I read the series from chapter 1 and it took me several nights to get to the current story line that day.

When I started my fandom around the second half of Skypiea it was still extremely primitive.
Finding normal scans easily online was super hard.
I'm pretty sure people back then used P2P services almost entirely, and the translation and scanslation quality was mostly attrocious.
All those bad early scans you can see on One Manga? That was the norm.Things only got really organized and polished around Water7.

When I finished reading Alabasta arc, I got spoiled about the Luffy vs Usopp fight, so I've read almost 12 volumes in a row to catch with the last chapters.

Chapter 319.i already downloaded before chaps from the DBF-arc and the second half of skypia, but wasn`t aware that they were published every week and so not constant^^
(was still always waiting for a german translation and also i was used to have the volumne every 1 -later 3 - months)

I can remember quite well that I mostly read raw scans side-by-side with pure-text-translations. Those were the good old times. Must've been around the end of Skypea. Kinda weird, but I miss it. g (We are just so spoiled, nowadays, aren't we?)

then i randomly looked at spoilers for some time.. i remember knowing of enel's ability, cp9's true identity and the fights in EL from spoilers, but i started following in a regular way spoilers from around this chap

Heh - I saw the cartoon in passing on one of the cable channels - It was 4Kids one and kept reading online people enjoying it.
So I found the subbed ones to watch - watched from the start - got really into it around Arlong arc.
Caught up around Water 7 / EL arc when it was current.Then I started to want to know what was coming and ended up reading it around the Thriller Bark. Then when at work on night shifts I read through all from start and the SBS's.
But Yeah sometime in Thriller Bark was when I started reading and I regretted not knowing it earlier. But I have been glad to be able to enjoy it all in such quick succession and only now knowing the pain of waiting each week for the next chapter lol.

After i saw a advertising in the german volume 40 of Dragonball in 2002 i began to catch up with the published volumes till 2006. During this time i began to search the internet for newer chapters.
When i remember right i started downloading chapters between 390-395. -
I started watching the anime first, while the manga was just starting Thriller Bark, I believe. The first spoiler I poked through was for the chapter where Usopp beat Perona, but I didn't follow the manga on a week-by-week basis until the chapter where Luffy gives Oars a Gigant Bazooka to the face.

Hmm..I started reading One Piece at chapter 63 when the internet did not exist…to me as an 11 year old... The first chapter I followed from spoilers onwards was probably the skypiea arc. I remember getting a spoiler stating that crew had been OHKO'd by enel and it blew me away lol. Been reading spoilers ever since. Although I do miss the old days when I had to get my fill of OP the hard way...which considering I've never spoken Japanese ..well you can just imagine hehehe

To make a short history long:
I started reading the tankobon's in my native language Danish. When I finished volume 28, I started reading up til chapter 433 in scanlations. My first weeklies was 434 and then 435, but I did not know of Apforums then. When I searched for chapter 436 next week, I found Apforums for the first time (however, the chapter was not out, so now I was introduced to spoilers for the first time). Since then, I've read the spoilers and chapter here almost every week.

I started reading Naruto a week before One Piece due to the announcement and start of the Naruto anime. A friend from school who got me DBZ episodes told me about it and when I checked WinMX and mIRC for episodes I found One Piece stuff. I started following spoilers during the Jaya flashback though, so that was when my week-to-week obsession really kicked in.

I don't remember what chapter number it was exactly, but it was during Enies Lobby, the chapter where Luffy first used Gear 2nd. Before that I just bought the German version of the manga as soon as they were released, but then, I stumbled over some spoilers about Gear 2nd (yeah, sooner or later the internet always punishes you for not being up-to-date). That made me really curious, so I read the few missing chapters between the German and the Japanese release online and … here I am.

But in the actual spirit of the thread? I switched from the bootleg anime to the bootleg manga mid skypiea, and caught up during the sea train part of Enies Lobby. Somewhere around 380 or so, the exact chapter is a little fuzzy now.
Definitely before the Robin flashback started however.

Basically this.
Viz volume 1 when it was released in '03 - > KF until a skypiea vintage episode -> raw of the week when I'd caught up was some sort of rocketboy manga raw.

I watched the 4kids dub when it first premiered on CN. I didn't start reading it till last summer. I remember the chapter being 543: http://manga.bleachexile.com/one-piece-chapter-543.html
I had absolutely no idea what was going on but I remember feeling sad for Sanji after looking at the cover page. It's kind of funny that I noticed the cover story immediately yet I read all the other chapters until I finally caught up with out even paying attention to a single cover page. My first exposure to OP was the first volume of US Shonen Jump. So basically chapter 1.
I shortly jumped onto the anime and watched thru the end of Arabasta.
Shortly after, I heard that in the Japanese Manga releases Luffy and Usopp had a massive fight, so I had skip Skypeia and DavyBack Fight to check that out and have been reading the weekly Japanese manga releases since.
