Not amazed by the chapter this week. Down right boring, actually.
I agree. Felt like I was reading Bleach; just with better art…
Hey, that was yesterday man. This is today.
You gaze into the abyss.
The abyss gazes back.
Makes sense, especially seing as the "wings" are only at each side, not at the top/bottom. It could just be the way its drawn, but overall, it seems more likely anyway.
I think you and I are right… It is more moving fast his wings than spinning... Seems more logical if you look at it.
there are times for drama and story and time for action, we all anticipated action in this arc, and we are being satisfied. so i don't know "what's there to complain about?"
Always complaining. I think you guys really need to know some things of the world. It's an action arc. What ya expect. Anyways,
Anyone notices http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/553/08/ left panel.
An Ex- Pirate of The Sun.
That was a fast chapter.
i think we already had our share of drama in this arc, if not more to come, so this chapter balances things out.
I don't get how people call this a Bleach chapter. Have you even READ Bleach?
there wasn't even much action
it was boring
read what in bleach? the only thing close to bleach was mihawks slash.
i wouldn't say boring, it was really fast.
@dirt:

how do you read that mihwak thing?
I'm just guessing but… He looks too close. / With his true attack range and ours...
or
I'm just going to measure… so I can see it with my own eyes
the difference in actual strength between that man and I...
Awesome chapter.
People who calls this Bleach really need a checkup with their vet.
This had more dialogue then most of the Bleach Chapters…
i will wait for c-net and svg for proper trans on mihawks statement.
If there's to be no chapter the next week, wouldn't it have said so at the end of the chapter? So maybe there's a chapter next week.
Meh, I just didn't care for how this chapter felt close to literally half the normal length. I can see where people are coming from with the Bleach comparisons.
I really don't see the disappointment either, aside from that the chapter was rather short with just 15 pages, not counting the color spread. A war is exactly what we were anticipating, right, and that's what's about to happen. And the real deal hasn't even started yet. It's still just the warm-up with the big-shots showing off their powers. The armies nor four of the Shichibukai have even begun their mission yet.
Besides, Luffy and his "crew" hasn't even arrived yet. There's still a lot left to happen before this war truly rages. Chapters like this, where things aren't overly rushed are necessary for the later wholeness. If all battles had started right away, there would be nothing left to anticipate.
The reason people might compare this to Bleach is because non-main characters are starting their battles by showing of their power, just like that series has done for the last 50 chapters. This is just 1 chapter. Don't worry, Oda just hasn't unleached the good stuff yet.

Funny because there were large events of action establishing the power hierachy going on, the match ups, and putting into perspective exactly how high level the confrontation is in that people hyped as terminator unstoppable as Mihawk, Aokiji, and Kizaru as truly meeting their matches.
Ships were disabled as being part of the combat.
The tidal wave was disabled.
The pirates and divisons made their charge.
The Vice Admirals were established as being the front line against these forces.
Two new devil fruits were revealed for two of the major players of the combat.
Mihawk who hasn't done anything for over 50 volumes is back in action.
Anyone complaining, let alone comparing it Bleach, is dumb as hell.
@Battle:
Thanks to Emporio (and Dofla?)
Why me? xD
I was at work ,_,
Thank you for sharing it!

It was fifteen pages long. The usual length is around eighteen. How is that "literally half the normal length"?
Meh, I just didn't care for how this chapter was close to literally half the normal length.
It was two pages short of usual, what the fuck are you talking about with "literally half".
Meh, I just didn't care for how this chapter was close to literally half the normal length. I can see where people are coming from with the Bleach comparisons.
It was 17 pages with the spreads split. That's about a normal chapter.
I should've added a ''felt'' in there, since the entire chapter being nothing but spreads does give that effect. In any case, this was easily the fastest One Piece chapter I've read.

Well said. People just forget that this is a war that is only just beginning, you can't expect Oda to gutload a war arc full of heavy dialogue laden chapters. More dialogue would've made the chapter longer but is unfitting of a war in which there should be more fighting and less standing around and talking.
So after 10 years of One Piece - i have been personally following it, on and off, for 4 years - finally we get to witness a war between the strongest pirate in the world withhis following, vs the whole power of the marine force. And people call this "boring"? Must be trolling?..
@dirt:
Where did I do this?
Brennan and a small army of doofs on the spoiler thread did this. I'm addressing the lot of you, not you specifically.

Then you're comics illiterate. There's a thing called "lots of interesting visuals filled with details" that should be taking part of your time in reading a comic, you don't just speed read speech balloons while performing drive by shootings of the images with your eyes.
There was less dialouge but ten times more content then "RNDOM ENIES LOBBY ACTION CHAPTER WITH LOTS OF BANTER #5".
Hmm… A misspelling here makes it seem like a certain mayor in Water 7 is going to be targeted by all the ships:
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/553/12/
Seems Iceburg is more important than Whitebeard. I wonder what he did :ermm: .

Yes, and even while looking around to see what was packed in the visuals (like the robot, the caterpillar guy, and so forth) it still didn't take me as long to finish the chapter as it normally does. It was still over before I knew it.
I'm a naturally fast reader, is that such a bad thing? It shouldn't.

When is a 19 page chapter even not over before you know it?
These are flash in the pan reads in the first place.
I dunno, I rather liked Joz and Marco protecting Newgate(not like he needs it), as well as Marco's closing comment about not taking the king on the first turn.
The chapter also showed Mihawk's thirst to be "strong" as well, which I liked.
Bleach chapters may follow a similar model as this chapter did with less dialogue, HOWEVER Bleach chapters don't have this much story progression in a single chapter, in the current Bleach arc you'd at most see 1 guy go bankai or one espada release and that would be all the story progress you'd get, now compare that to theHerald's list of things that happened here in this OP chapter.
I said Bleach a ton in this post, haha.
I also liked the chess line. I'm betting next chapter is when Akainu will show us his power since the other 2 Admirals attacked this chapter.
I wonder who's gonna be Whitebeard's matchup.
Lol if this was Bleach. None of the higher tier would of done anything. No Tsunami for 100 chapters. The fodders will be fight first for 10 chapters. Then the VCs and the Commanders will fight for 50 chapters full of swirly dust and feet. The Luffy will arrive and defeat a Admiral with Vizard level 3 for 10 chapters. All the higher tiers will start fighting for 30 chapters. Ace will get rescued and then we find out this was all trick by WB since the location of the Ancient Weapons is in Ace and all the WB commanders will turn on WB. Akainu will end up defecting MHQ to join WB. WB will then kidnap Hancock and Luffy will go to the NW to save her and to defeat the evil WB.
This chapter was 15 Bleach chapters.
So there's some pirates charging, stand-offs going on, and it was pretty obvious there'd be match ups between strong pirates and the Admirals.
I'm just bored by this, and while I know this is a transitioning chapter of sorts, I'd still like to see more than just this.
yanno, it's all well and good, but I'm still bored
Brennan here, and a small army of doofs on the spoiler thread did this. I'm addressing the lot of you, not you specifically.
Nice blanket. So you disagree with the suggestion that this chapter was nothing but action from non-main cast?
I wonder who's gonna be Whitebeard's matchup.
i hope sengoku :>
did anyone else notice that this guy last panel right side ( page 8 )
looks like apoo scratchman ?!! well i think it is not him personally ofc, but is that coincidence?
this is so incredibly cool. I've loved Marco and Jozu for quite some time now and seeing them in action is such a good feeling. seeing all these VA's lined up too… wow. the guy with the striped suit and mustache that we've seen a few times before, we don't know his name do we?
I actually REALLY like the character designs for the NW captains. in my eyes, Oda is god of character design.
it would be cool if Hawkeye fights Jozu and ends up cutting him to pieces.
I'd love to see Shuu - the marine captain with the rust fruit - appear and do some major damage to some metal-based guy. if the WG needed to get rid of Kuma since he might be a traitor, Shuu would be the best assassin for the job. that would be so epic and shocking, I'd love it.
can't wait to see what happens next. let the mayhem begin!
Btw am I the only one that thought Ao Kiji's actions were a bit strange:
THIS CHAPTER WAS SO EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excuse me now while I continue to jizz my pants.
Edit: What the hell? People are comparing this to Bleach? Guys, this is a war!!! This is the part where you stop thinking about the story and just enjoy the fighting and carnage and epic visual battles. I'm sure that's what Mr. Oda intended. For us to let ourselves be taken in by the crazy!!!
@jackvance:
- he teleports - earlier in Shabondy we saw Kizaru turn into light and fly around at light speed, but what kind of ice logia technique is Ao Kiji using here?
Most likely Soru.

Ice Jump?
- he does ice age on the 2 tsunami's from a very long range, without even having to touch the water. (like he did when he was first introduced, he put his hand in the water) Think of the implications of his power now..
Welcome to top tier.

It was pretty obvious..???
Your talking like Phenomonyl, this nonsensical logic dicstates the same about the entire story, it's pretty obvious Luffy will get One Piece.
Like them you aren't reading One Piece, you're holding on for IV pumps of big information and can't be damned to actually see it happening or how it happens.
Nice blanket. So you disagree with the suggestion that this chapter was nothing but action from non-main cast?
WOW
WOOOOWWWW
There are no words for this kind of complete lack of literary comprehension of the importance of what's taking place.
I mean fuck, I thought you were better at least then some simple minded assertion like this.
And don't "blanket" me, you used the Bleach comparison to the T.
