If all your friends say to you: Listin, Merry really can't hold it for any longer, and you start reacting towards them in a violent way... it's undeniable that he acted in a shameful way. Even Franky couldn't convince his stubborness, after showing him the evidence. Is it so easy to leave your friends because they didn't agree with your opinion???
This guy chose for a life on the sea and that automatically knowing that dangers are up ahead. You won't achieve your dream of becoming a true warrior of the sea by running away from every single thing. That why i dislike him. He's the strawhat with the least progress, and thus goes my support to whitebeard.

I don't really feel like arguing about water 7 and Merry right now. All I can say is that I DON'T agree with your take on that situation and I think you've missed the point of his actions.
But you actually have a thought out reason that you don't like him. And while I may not agree with your take, at least it's more intelligent than, random "he's useless" "he's a coward" statements that have no real backing.

I don't vote with statement's such as: yeah let's go vote for that guy because he's stronger. As example: I'd vote chopper over a lot of other characters even if he's weaker then them, mainly because i approve his actions… Too bad he's out but my main point is, i judge characters on their personality/progress and their influence on me as reader.

He started off as the weakest, a coward and a liar. He was shown to have a dream and the heart to want to work towards it, and he(when he was shit weak) was prepared to stand off against real Pirates to save his village. He's still a liar, and he's still a coward sometimes, but he overcomes his cowardice for the sake of his Nakama and to fufill his dream of becoming a Brave Man of the Sea.
I give more chops to someone who knows he can't do the task but tries anyway for the sake of others, then someone who knows he can do it.
