I have no intelligent responses to this chapter. All of my comments while reading consisted of fangirlish squeals. For Luffy? For Bon Clay? For Ivankov? I don't even know anymore….
Chapter 538 "Lv5.5 New Comer (Kama) Land" Discussion

I'm serious, Ivotas. This name is sexy. So Very sexy…
If you know somebody with such a name, make sure you hook him up with me, okay?I promise I'll do if I should ever come across such a person.^^
-
Dude, Luffy does look a lot older now! That was him on the second to last page right?
it might be the art style.
did he really age 10 years? -
How can we

He is just too cute.
proof that oda reads forums. he saw the christmas wolf and put him in the cover. and then he had zoro threaten the chicken for an egg with it, lol
-
Oda-sensei is awesome. Kishimoto also goes on forums for Naruto. He changed the leader of akatsuki from Pain to Madara. Not only that, but I heard he omitted the Kakashi side story (not Kakashi gaiden).
It's a mad, mad, mad world =] -
I really enjoyed this chapter. I loved how Iva did a wink of death on clay. I'm excited about next chapter, seems to be set up to be even more fast paced.
-
This was a pretty good chapter. Luffy has really been suffering. I hope he's better after he eats. He has to get out and go after Ace. Also as much as I like this arc, I'm starting to miss the way things used to be. I miss the SHs sailing the GL and getting into adventures .
Also does anyone else feel like this arc won't last a year? 537 has about 16 hours left til the execution and in this one, they're about to take him there. I'm not sure but I think 8 hours passed this chapter. That leaves 8 hours until the execution. Maybe Oda wants to rush to a SH reunion?
-
He doesn't want to rush the reunion, he's just building the suspense. I personally think Luffy would be an ant compared to forces waiting to battle Whitebeard, so Luffy's best chance to play a vital role is to rescue ace before he arrives at his execution site. Thus, Ace is about to be escorted out, so the clock is really on Luffy to rescue Ace, thus building up some more suspense.
This rest of this arc could be very short, or it could be incredibly long. It really depends on how the battles go and how the "escape" is handled

I think it's quite the opposite. There's a long way ahead when big shots like Shiryuu are still being introduced.
-
damn was it just me or did this chapter seem alot longer (i loved it XD)
alot of information toofirst-ivas powers sound pretty awesome he/she can change almost anything even strength
second-someone as strong as magellin in lv. 6? sumthing tells me when luffy gets to level six alot of shit is gonna go down
third-10 years off his life? which makes want to ask did luffy get ten years older!!?
fourth-finally time for the execution n after a huge buffet luffy will be ready to kick some ass again -

That's true. I suppose I didn't realize that Luffy might still head to level 6 rather than leave and head to the execution site.
-
Well the arc started in November. So we're at 5-6 months now. With all the level 6 new characters being introduced and potential fights from the prison riots I see at least 3 months worth of material right there. Oda may even throw in a flashback from one of the prisoners (Ace maybe) which could put 1-2 months of padded material there. A year or close to it (10-11 months) is doable. That's of course assuming the arc is only ID. If it includes the WB battle then shit it'll do a year easily.
-
fuckin' deece chapter.
Another bad ass wink.
Some big names introduced, i'm pretty keen to get down to Level 6 now.
Lots of time passed. To the extent that its time to move Ace. Shits gonna get hectic.
Hannibal discovered, hopefully get to see just how strong he really is soon.
Delicious Domino.
I want Ivas cool clock.
Emaciated Luffy.
Very good way to start a Friday. -
Something nobody's mentioned yet:
It's been 20 hours and we haven't heard anything about Buggy/Mr.3 yet. I doubt they have been caught (which would be shown) or have escaped (just unlikely given their level), that means they are lurking somewhere as well and will likely play a role in the impending… chaos.
-
Shiryuu is a much needed addition to this arc. A prison guard, equal to Magellan in power, who's so bloodthirsty that he himself is imprisoned on the same level as 2 Shichi, WB's 2nd division commander, and people described as causing events to atrocious to even be known. He hasn't even been introduced and he's already my favorite character introduced this arc. I liken him to a poor man's Akainu.
Also, Oda has impressed me with the unusually fast pacing he's been taking this arc. WG vs. WB is closer than i thought it would've been in a few months. Ace is already being picked up for execution.
Helluva chapter and the ones coming up can only get better.
-
Damnit, with the scan on mangafox it has finally been said that he's on level 6. =(
Edit- Awesome chapter though, everything about it was done well. Even though everyone complains about him recovering so quick, I loved the suspense from when he stopped screaming and then starts to bang on the door.
-
Luffy is epic. That's all there is to it. Ah, Zoro for his pain-thing too.

what we have overlooked is that the Vulcanization process for more elasticity and more resilience has taken place during this hormonal therapy is the end of the "curing" process.
not to mention the obvious jump in haki (i mean seriously he almost broke a chained reinforced door with it.)
i think Goda is plainly saying in this chapter is that "Luffy is a Beast", his willpower just shortened the healing process!!!
i am so hyped up right now.
damit i am waiting for onemanga, (i don't DL, too many bad experiences)
-
@dirt:
Maybe Shiryuu's where Mr. 1 got that new scar of his on his face.
That sounds like the most likely reason I've heard for his scar.
-
I'm surprised no one has brought up the okama DenDen Mushi.
-
One more thing…
The fact that Luffy's healing process ended quicker than expected...does that also mean Luffy didn't lose all 10 years of his life? Perhaps be only lost like 2 or 3, since the process was shorter...so less years were lost
-
I was under the impression that it was more life lost resulting in faster healing process.

I think it was 10 years and he needed 2 days to heal meaning 5 years every day
So instead of 5 years it could be 1-2.5 years so you could be right.
its been what, 1 day or all 2 days have passed? -

well i always figure who cares what something does to his body, and nit picking days or years.
i mean in the end Luffy will either die due to it, or still be alive probably due to chopper. I ain't gonna bitch that the average lifespan in one piece is 62, and luffy was 17 plus his gears and this treatment cut off 49 years of his life. he should be dead, whats up with that oda. ha just seems like a funny topic. no point worrying about it

I think it's more like Luffy's current hormones were unstable due to the poison. Hormones control the regeneration in the body. Since his hormones were unstable he could not regenerate/recover properly. Mr. Hormones comes in and rebuilds his regeneration level with 10 years worth of his bodies hormones, thus making his recovery possible and his hormones stable. So, he will still lose 10 years worth of regeneration. Basically, Iva-san just underestimated Luffy. He said the chance of survival was around 2-3% but in reality, it really brought it up to about 20-30%.
-
that was some nasty luffy look at the 2nd to last page showing his guts and internal muscles.
-
So… I think this chapter KINDA confirmed the regenaration of devil fruits after the user death. Why? Because it talks about a guy with a tunnel digging devil fruit ability. So I suppose it's the mole mole fruit. But we saw Miss Merry Christmas already had that one, and I dont think she's ever been imprisioned in Impel Down. So maybe after that guy who digged up new kama land died, the fruit respawned and Miss Merry Christmas ate it? What do you guys think?

That's very plausible. Or maybe perhaps the fruit was a paramecia which allowed the user to dig and such. I'm honestly hoping for some more elaborate paramecia.

Bottom left panel on the left. Skypiean?

Nope.
Gurren LagganDrill Fruit. But really, I think that it's another ability.

i believed this also.

i didn't see it yet, that made me shiver:sad:
-

Bon did say he was being ripped to shreds right? Kinda nasty that he meant literally.
-
Looked more like he was all withered up to me. You can't survive without your birthday suit, ya know.
-
Its one interesting chapter especially with Shiryuu and the new pirates names. It makes me wants to see them. With Shiryuu being introduced it clears up the WG ignoring Magellan's toliet trip.
-
I can't wait until that damn wink is explained. First it pushed the cannonball back, and now it hit Bon-chan in the face.
-
Fuck yeah! Time for Luffy to go save Ace.
-

Air displacement.

i got all excited from the "FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD"
-
-
Well, I'm done.
One Piece has just officially used every devil fruit idea I've ever had. Oda's obviously either two steps ahead of me or he's stealing my thought processes.
-
Does Luffy have a beard or is that just blood or what?
-
Does Luffy have a beard or is that just blood or what?
Dude, to me it seems like he is just muscle, no skin. So no, I don't think that is a beard.
-
As interesting and tantalizing as this entire chapter is… nothing will top the cover page having Christmas Wolf.
Nice.
-
I'm loving the little homages to TB!
-
Hmm, Shiryuu of the rain..water powers?
-
Actually, you know what. Thinking about it, muscles grow via microtrauma, as in muscle fibers are damaged, and overcompensation over the healing of these fibers causes growth, and thus increase in strength.
Will this mean that he will get what equal as 10 years worth of non-stop, full body training?
And what effect will this have on his rubberness?
Hmm, Shiryuu of the rain..water powers?
I took it as the "blood of his enemies" would spray up and rain down.

Goda is watching 8D

-
Ya know, after all the talk about training arcs and haki training…this might be it.
Luffy's definitely feels like he can get up and kick some ass after coming out of this. Quote: What doesn't kill me makes me stronger.
Luffy might literally do just that...
