Ahh okay then, I was kind of confused.
Also, the attack that Kaku used to slice the Judicial Tower in half. I believe it was called "Amanedachi" going off my vague memory of dubbed OP:UA. Well, that attack is translated as "Sky Slicer".

just read 42 and 43
the things i hate that they do are just the unnecessary things
didn't chimney say that spandam was the underling of lucci….. so why just that guy in viz it makes less sense
gear two instead of second (apparently it's to big of a word)
and just other stupid scenes like when zoro knocked kaku back he said something about getting your head out of the clouds (sounded really corny) when he actually told him that he was arrogant
just stupid stuff like this
Kami:
This isn't a special One Piece term. This is Viz covering their asses so they don't get sued. They didn't translate Eneru's title as God, leaving it as "Kami". It's incredibly stupid, and shows that Viz cares too much about liability.
Ok, another thing here.
Anyone who says leaving Kami "in Japanese" is correct doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.
Enel doesn't call himself "Kami Enel" he calls himself "God Enel". God. In English. "Goddo" in the Katakana.
He uses Kami too but his actual official title is "Goddo Eneru".
So yeah, it's funny when you see these "Lol, Shit shouldn't be translated" kinda people who don't actually know what they're talking about.
I once had some Naruto sub-only fans yell at me because I pronounced Sasuke "Sasskay" instead of "SaSOOkay".
I pronounced it right and got yelled at. So yeah.
Everything else should be translated, and BatDan covered the reasons why.
didn't chimney say that spandam was the underling of lucci….. so why just that guy in viz it makes less sense
I don't understand what you're trying to say. Lucci is the underling of Spandam. Spandam is the leader of CP9.

Insert pic of thousand lion-chan raging over SECOND GEAR!!!

Ooh, I get it, he's a giraffe. Head in the clouds. That actually made me laugh. Very clever, Viz, very clever. I approve.
39 through 43 shipped for me earlier today…only ten more left!
In vol42..what did they translate the Zoro/Sogeking(Sniperking) combo attack to in the Viz volumes?
I only have the JP volume of 42 for now
hey guys idk if you already talked about the new shonen jump, seems last few pages are bout ennies lobby and the usual stuff.
anyways i got mine yesterday and the thing i remember now that stuck out is BB says luffy's "haki" got stronger. so they use haki. sorry if this has been discussed, or if im being stupid and they've been using haki all the time >.>
@Badass:
If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to answer them. I visit this thread often, so I'll try to answer as soon as possible.
There was a colorspread in volume 39 or 40 (I think it was 39) which had all of the Straw Hats listed with numbers behind them, and it has their names written in romaji. Viz leaves things alone like "Mugiwara Pirates" and things like that, but I'm sure they edited Zoro's and Sogeking's written names. How do the edits look?
Bah, I'm still bummed out about not owning the January 2010 issue. I thought it was missing so I submitted a request, but I just got a reply saying my renewal was paid for on November 13 and I was "officially" renewed starting with the February issue. December was my last issue for that subscription.
And now I can't even find the issue online without paying 3x the amount. I don't even care about the card…! Gahhhhhhhh
Mmm... I still need to pick up volumes 36-38.

That's not romaji, that's English. And I guess they edited Sogeking and Zoro.
The color spread remindes me, I'm sure others noticed but, did you notice there are chapters like "The first" (Zoro), "The third and seventh" (Usopp and Franky)? Well, there aren't "The Fifth" (Chopper) and "The Sixth" (Robin) :p
Romaji is just Japanese written with English letters so you can't really decipher whether it is one of the two.
Gah my manga stores "March Manga Sale" is almost over and I am still not up to date with the W7 arc. (damn shipping)

Romaji is japanese as you read it, like "Monki D. Rufi" or "Toni Toni Choppa".

There's also not a "The Second" in the Viz manga, because they changed the title of that chapter.

:wassat: Why change it?
:wassat: Why change it?
Sometimes Viz has a habit of ad-libing their own spin on Japanese titles. It's one of those things that they weren't aware of originally and now it basically bit them in the ass.
The chapter is now called "Another Villian"
O-chan

In volume 42, very little of Zoro/Sniperking is shown. But he said something along the lines of "Don't break that form, youre a sword now" "Call my lawyer, I'm going to sue you. That's probably not what you're looking for, though. Could you tell me what chapter the combo is in?

The L in Zolo looks a little off, just a little. It seems like there's too much space between the L and the O. Sniperking looks perfect in that spread, though.
Funny how you mentioned how they leave Mugiwara alone, because in the Mugiwara Pirates VS. CP9 spread (Ch. 377), Mugiwara is changed to Straw Hat. That edit is done well, though. I had to actually check the chapter online, because I thought Oda wrote Straw Hat in English.

Chimney assumed that Spandam was the underling from how he was acting compared to Lucci.
She's always assuming.

Whoops, it was real late when I wrote that, sorry.

That's great, glad to hear. The Straw Hat edit is surprising since they left it as "Mugiwara" before in the magazine. Maybe they'll edit it once it comes to the volumes or something.

i know i was telling him they messed it up in the viz edition
they didn't say underling or subordinate just that guy…. it was stupid

So what did they write?
They wrote "That guy" just like in Stephen's script. Surely, it's nothing to complain over.
Oh, ok. But what did the bar under Spandam's picture say? "That guy"?
It says, "The Guy With Lucci"
Ok, thanks. It'd be funnier if she said he's Lucci's subordinate :p

Oh wow, has this guy pretty much translated all of One Piece?
Wow, I was surprised to see a few "hells" and "damns" thrown in the recent batch of books.
Made the handcuffing scene a bit funnier.
@Badass:

How about that? For years I thought she called Spandam Lucci's subordinate. It is funnier that I way I think, but anyone who complains can't complain now, becaue that aint the way it was originally stated.
Choperman, does that settle your frustration? Or would you have liked Viz to add lib it?

While I'm here, how'd they work Franky & Fukurou insulting each other's punches?
It goes like this:
Fukuro- Your punch is an amateur punch! Solid Beast! (Jugon?)
Franky-Yours is a wimpy punch!
Fukuro- Yours is an old man's punch.
Franky- Then yours is a baby punch.
Fukuro- Yours is a pansy punch!
Franky- Panties?!… NO ONE CALLS ME PANTIES!
Fukuro- That's what you are! PANTIES, PANTIES, PANTIES!
All right, now I'm seriously considering taking my business from now on. Yesterday, not only did they have vol. 38, which Borders still didn't have last I checked, but they also had 39-43, all of which I purchased.
Actually, one thing about vol. 38 I wanted to comment on was Oda's intro. He talks about CD singles and how they usually have an instrumental track on them. He then equates this to basically meaning the band doesn't have anything or can't think of a song. He uses the comparison of, if you can't think of the answer to a question on a test you can say "this is an instrumental."
Well, while instrumentals usually aren't as good, and I guess people could use them as placeholders, I think Oda should give instrumentals some props since they can be quite awesome. Case in point: Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group.

I love it! Thats close to the origonal right?
Finally, volume 36 arrived :D Now I just need to wait for the book depository to send me the April volumes.

Ah, the great sword Hana-Arashi, none can surpass it!
Sweet. Saturday I had 34-38 delivered to my home in one box, and today I have the new issue of Shonen Jump. I'm pretty satisfied. Now I have to order the other five for this month.
I love it! Thats close to the origonal right?
Pretty close .
Ok, a big edit:
I was reading volume 39, and unfortunately, Viz pretty much ignored Franky's "Hentai" gag. Though, I guess there was no real way to translate it. Though, I thought it could have been Transporn…...What.
O, btw, they used the word Mutate instead of transform, But they really stretched it out. So- MUUUUUUUUUUUU.... TAAAATE!
Of course one could argue that they're trying to have people confuse the TATE part for a certain slang word as a way to bring over the Hentai gag, but I doubt Viz is that clever.
The move that Zoro uses to cut the train cars in half is called "Castle Gate", and the move he used to defeat T-bone is called "Corageous Talons".
Sanji's Parage Shot is now called "Plastic Surgery Shot" for some reason. While the other ones before it just have the french "the" before it (i.e. Le Nez, La Joue, etc.) "Decoupage", however, remains intact.
That's all I saw, but if I see anything else as I read through the volumes, I'll post it here.
I see Teach and Burgess have got their laughs back again while Sadie has lost her undershirt. A Luffy cover, Ch. 541-544, Nami and Usopp profile pages, and there's also a page about the latest anime volume. So a fairly good month for One Piece all told.
Same Hear, got my magazine also today. It was good to re-read Bakuman volume 1 legally. I will be re-re-reading it when the volume comes out now, lol
im waiting for the May or June issue to arrive still
ZEHAHAHAHAHA!!!
out of all the laughs I was happiest to see Blackbeard's return in this month's SJ! =D
@Badass:

Isn't Rashōmon also a reference to a famous story?
I feel Viz should have kept this, seems kinda lazy.
Found a list of the entire 11 Supernovas translated names over at the SJ website.
Why is there a picture of Drake in Killer's place? xD
ey guys just wonted to no i orderd vols 39-43 from the book depositry, does anyone no if that get released early if u pre order or not ?
They shipped the March volumes to me before the release date, but I'm still waiting for them to ship the April volumes. (Which is annoying, since I wanted to read the volumes in the holiday, and schools start 7.4)
Found a list of the entire 11 Supernovas translated names over at the SJ website.
Seems like they got all the names right.
Unfortunately the first thing that met my eyes was;
Roronoa ZOLO.

Killer got served.
