Could not agree more.
I actually mentioned the possibility of Mashiro meeting another girl at some point some time ago, I wish they would write him as more of a human.
No matter how honorable, you still have fantasies about other women.
inb4 new girl blabs to the public on Azuki and Mashiro's marriage pact, unleashing otaku shitstorm.
I wonder if Mister ''I went to art school'' Moriya will ever admit to shonen manga not being his forte.
Good chapter, although it did feel kinda filler-ish. Still, nice for the assistants to get some screentime and to see our heroes enjoying some well-deserved luxury. And yeah, what was up with Kato's friend? I really hope that's not all there is to her. And it really would be something if Mashiro some sort of attraction to her (but he didn't seem interested).
I miss Kaya punching people out when they try to move on Saiko… she's become incredibly tame since she married Takagi... Almost night and day. She doesn't even get as many face faults anymore, though she did manage to give a "Herp Derp" face this chapter. Other than that, it was pretty good; probably a transition chapter, unless this new girl ends up being the new GDH (to use Satsuki's coined term), only for Saiko instead of Takagi this time. Speaking of that, where is Iwase? She's still writing Natural, obviously, with Eiji doing the art, but she hasn't been mentioned or seen in a long time, although her series has. Weird.

She will have some sort of crisis and we'll see her for like 2 more chapters at some point before the series ends. Personally, I hope she gives up on manga.
I figured the new girl would've found her way to Eiji.
But I also played with the idea of if the authors went down that path it'd be a girl that Eiji loved/became obsessed with just as much as his manga and the two meshed well together and in its quirky unique way be a comparable type of love story to the other ones formed in the story thus far.
As interesting as it would have been for Saiko to fall for another girl (who happened to be a voice actor) it would have been completely out of character and wouldn't have made sense. Not for the guy who pledged to marry a girl he never talked to before middle school.
The chapter was pretty good. It in fact felt like a "breather" chapter they were discussing in the manga. I have a feeling that girl is going to stir something up in the future. I'm going with what Crossword said.

She got a chapter after Crow ended. That's all we need to see. Her plot is as resolved for as much as it matters.
Though I could still see her ending up with Nakai, since she still hasn't ever met him… she hasn't, and won't, see him in fat slob mode. They're pretty perfect for each other in a lot of terrible ways. It would wrap up two unredeemed asses with one stone.
I don't see why it would be out of character. Do you know how dynamic and interesting it would make the whole Kaya/Saiko relationship if he started to have doubts, instead of in himself, but because he started to have feelings for another girl that didn't make him turn into liquid every time he thought of her? Someone that called him all the time and built him up? Shit, I'd be interested.
I guess I can see where it would be out of character. I guess what I'm saying is it would be a nice change of pace.

He's been engaged to the girl for like 10 years, and they've only seen each other in person like three times in that period. In the hospital for one of them! I don't care how dedicated he is to his work, that's not healthy.
It really would be natural, and way more realistic, if he started getting along with another girl and having doubts, if however briefly. I mean, Takagi had a few chapters where he started to realize he liked Aoki and that Kaya was being stupid for (what seemed to him) no reason, and that's human and normal. (And ultimately led to them being married.) It'd be perfectly fine if Mashiro started to wonder what was on the other side… especially when he really, honestly, hasn't talked to his dream girl much at all in the last 10 years except for a few notes here and there. How much does he even actually know about her other than her goals and the ocassional encouraging note?
Especially since storywise, if they plan on Reversi only being 50 chapters and they've already been going three months... then they've only got another 8 or 9 months of series for it to become popular and warrant an anime. (but they'll surely extend it and figure out a way to make it last longer by then) If Reversi IS to be an anime, then on their current timetable, that'll be an official thing in under a year... marriage included. If ever there was a time to have doubts, its now.
(I also want to know whats going to happen with Kato. Her seeking romance has been a thing for her since she was first introduced. But it has to be an artist! And younger than her! )
Yes, Saiko finding interest in another girl would be completely natural. That's the thing. He's a very unnatural character when it comes to romance, love, and girls. That's his character which is why him acting in a natural way to that girl would be OOC. It's like Refi said:
I wish they would write him as more of a human
His character is not easy to identify with because frankly it's so unrelaistic. Who has a 10 year relationship with someone in the same country and only meets the person like 3 times? Mashiro. Hey, and I'm not knocking him for being a 1-woman man and waiting for marriage, but what the hell? Long distance relationships are closer than his intimacy wise. Also, finding interest in another girl and having conflict of emotions isn't cheating. It's human emotion and his inner conflict of emotions to choose 1 girl over the other would be well…completely natural.
In the end though, yeah, it would be interesting.
What I don't get is….
As far as I can tell, Reversi has no lead heroine for Azuki to voice. I mean...if it's like Death Note it might have a Misa Amane type character, but that's not really the amazing role Mashiro had imagined for his fiance.
Mashiro starting to have feelings for another girl would definitely be interesting. I do think this girl was introduced for a purpose. In a way, the outcome I would like to see is Mashiro realizing how absolutely ridiculous his relationship with Azuki really is....and maybe let him compromise on his story book "make our dreams come true" ending. It's been 10 years....has not having an unobtainable, distant, idea of the perfect girl waiting made Takagi any less ambitious than Mashiro? Maybe he doesn't starve himself, but that's not exactly one of Mashiro's healthier traits.

Maybe one of the male looking demons has a very feminine voice.

Eh, its shonen, and they're probably right around the corner from their dream coming true anyway, regardless of how obtuse and stupid it is. If there was going to be compromise and realism, it would have been before now.
Would be funny if over the one year of the manga's run Takagi forgot to put in a female lead even though he has that clearly in mind and keeps noting its a key priority, and it then goes on to be an anime without a clear female lead role.
Yeah, at this rate Azuki's more likely to end up voicing the mascot character instead.
I'm a little sad that, aside from that once issue overload of work mis-scheduling, PCP has been completely shunted to the background and will probably never really be mentioned again… even though they're still trying to do "their best" on it. its not in direct competition with Eiji, so who cares?
^Yeah lol. It's a damn monthly manga but not a lot has been focused let alone mentioned in passing. I mean weren't they suppose to be dealing with their new editor for that/shouldn't they be meeting him? or since it's monthly will they only address PCP once every volume?
Anyway, the talk about Saiko and his unhealthy and unorthodox relationship made me realize he's like a 24 year old virgin, possibly going on 30. Makes me wonder if his uncle was a 40 year old virgin.

Probably. Nothing wrong with waiting for the right one though, if thats your personal choice.
Guy hasn't even kissed his fiance yet. And they've been engaged for 10 years. They're going to be reeeally awkward on their honeymoon. Or crazy nasty from all the repression.
Yeah…as vastly interesting that would be from the overdone manga antics and overblown shonen rivalries , this manga doesn't have it in it to explore such a mature theme as sexual desire for a woman while being engaged to another. Which is a shame because that would be pretty interesting.

Well, it doesn't have to be sexual or explicit. Just… interest. Or even some very normal doubts. Again, Takagi had some feeling for Aoki and started wondering about that path, (and so did she) however briefly. And theres all the nonsense with Nakai and the Goddamn Homewrecker. And Kato is a continuous romantic. And so is Eiji for that matter.
This series has love triangles and romance angst in it, and while it hasn't exactly handled all of those plots well... it has it within itself to tackle them... even if just a bit.
Why you shouldn't wait too long…

I hope this other-girl development has been closed off already. Bakuman sucks at romance, it was sweet at one point, not anymore. Don't bring it back after 100 or so chapters.

No way. Mine supplies much more context and info in higher quality! :)
I sometimes wonder if Mashiro is asexual, as in really happy with just the long distance romance as opposed to your typical "shounen asexual" thing. All these years and he's perfectly satisfied with the promise of a kiss possibly somewhere in the future if he's a good boy. But no, I guess it can't be anything interesting like that and he's Just That Pure…
Mashiro needs to give this hottie a chance, if for nothing else than to learn to respect women for more than their looks.
Mashiro and Azuki's love is completely superficial, they fell in love with each other without knowing a single thing about each other aside from their occupational goals. He liked that she was hot, she liked that he was cute.
Been there done that, it leads to awkward silences and a point of mutual break up.
Azuki gets fat from being pregnant and Mashiro will smash another chick, guaranteed, their relationship is destined to fail.
The worst part is, in MOST cases, you can say "well, these two characters spent more time together off camera, there's more than just what we saw." Takagi and Kaya. Hirimaru and Aoki. You know there were extra phone calls and long conversations and dates and that there IS more to the couples.
But Mashiro and Miho? Aside from the hospital visit, and them sitting in a classroom (and not saying anything) I think we HAVE seen the entirety off all the time together. Its a very strange, only in shonen, sort of relationship.
Well I do assume they txt each other daily, at the very least weekly or whenever something come up with their careers where they can encourage each other.
What sucks is how weak they probably celebrated their birthdays with each other.
Off-screen texting. A real relationship builder, lol, especially with the short messages we know Miho sends.

Better be an amazing Amane.
Volume 16 cover.

Speaking of covers. A friend bought volume 14.
Look at the desktop shot. Windows 7, Internet Explorer 8, inside it is Windows XP with opened Internet Explorer 6.
That explains a lot about Jump's editorial department.
That volume 16 is probably the weakest cover they've done. even though it has Eiji. Shame.

He's using a remote desktop to plan his evil scheme!
The fiend!
Just thought I'd post the spoilers for this week.
Spoilers:
! Chapter 162: Hot Springs and One Of Two.
! At the end of the party, a guy who looks like Nakai's long lost brother approaches Ashirogi with an anime proposal. They're happy but say it's really upto the editorial department to decide. Nakai's long lost brother knows this of course but just wanted to say hi to the two when he heard Ashirogi Muto was in the house from Eiji.
! Of course, Ashirogi is ecstatic after the whole ordeal. Ririka puts in a comment that if Reversi becomes an anime, please allow her to be in it.
! The next day at the studio, Shujin brings up Kato's friend, Ririka, who they met at the party. Just stuff that Shujin has been researching about her.
! Anyway, Takagi notes that Mashiro should take a break over the New Years holiday. Mashiro definitely can't take something like 2 weeks off, but he plans to have 30th to the 3rd off. Takagi wants Mashiro to go travelling with him and Kaya. To the same place where Takagi had their honeymoon apparently. Takagi says he never has plans over the New Years anyway and a change of scenery might be nice, and so Mashiro agrees to go.
! And so, the 31st comes around on the next page after, and everybody's at the hot springs. Mashiro notes how relaxing it is, probably more so because all they ever do is work. When the two come back in to eat, they find Kaya already had a bit of sake and looks slightly drunk. After some drinking, they go play table tennis, and then go back to their rooms for more drinking, and then watching the New Years special for the countdown. Afterwards, Mashiro gives Azuki an SMS and then they all go watch the first sunrise of the new year. Takagi and Kaya each make a wish for the new year. They tell Mashiro should make one too, and he wishes that Shujin and Kaya's relationship stays the same forever. Kaya is touched and starts crying a bit. When they declare they should all come back next year, they should bring Azuki along too. And Kaya declares they should bring kids along next year too, which Takagi says he'll do his best tonight. Lmao. When Kaya finally sleeps, Takagi goes over to Mashiro's room and talk about misc stuffs like what the past 8 year have been like ever since they teamed up to work on manga, their dreams, and how life and being a mangaka is similar. Cue epic Takagi speech.
! And after their little break, back at the studio, they've just handed in their manuscript to Hattori. Hattori praises them, and also tells them their second volume will be on sale on the 4th, and that volume 1 has been reprinted up to 500 thousand copies now. They've stopped reprinting volume one of Zombie Gun so they just might be able to catch up now. But Hattori tells them in the recent questionaires it seems Zombie Gun will come out on top. Guess they can't have it all, it's one or the other.
! The climatic ending ends with the editorial department discussing the ending of the Crow anime and how they need something to fill in after it ends. Heishi says, "There's no need to discuss this, it'll either be one of these two mangas for sure…".
My comments:
! Sounds like a cute chapter, and it looks like we get some setup for what could be the ultimate battle that gets Ashirogi their anime. Sounds like Ririka's going to try to take Azuki's spot as the voice actress for their anime, but I'm wondering how that'll come into play.
162 is out.
http://www.mangareader.net/bakuman/162/2
! Ashirogi just needs to admit their bromance and get it over with already.
! As for the ending cliffhanger? Its gotta be Zombie Gun that gets it. For one thing, in sheer real world sense, following an Eiji anime with another Eiji anime is the way to go… and for the other manga world logic, if our leads get an anime then the series is well and truly over. They have to decisively fall behind Eiji one last time so they can overcome the biggest possible odds. (Since getting an anime will increase his fanbase and book sales.)
! But the series is sooo close to being at an end its not even funny anymore.
Chapter was good but the best part about it was the Omake. I definitely have that Hiramaru syndrome. :D
Out with the old, in with the new. I shall never procrastinate again, it is only the Hiramaru Syndrome.
Why can't they jsut adapt both? Is there a rule that says they can't?
@Thousand:
Why can't they jsut adapt both? Is there a rule that says they can't?
Well no, but the question is which one is going to take Crows place. Maybe Crow has a really good spot, which could get many views and fans. Even if Zombie Gun/Reversi gets this spot, the other one will likely get an anime to.
@Thousand:
Why can't they jsut adapt both? Is there a rule that says they can't?
Production and promotional budgets. You have X ammount of staff, and X ammount of pages of ads you can afford per month… then you can only afford to do one thing.
A different company entirely can pick up the other series, but the discussion is specifically on whats replacing Crow, so presumably its getting Crow's staff and timeslot.
That Hiramaru syndrome. It's the worst.
The Hiramaru Germ is a dangerous foe indeed… !!!
Zombie Gun will get it. Or Azuki will die [jokes]/not be casted. They're not going to rush an ending now are they?
I'm really not sure about the appearance of this other voice actress at the very end of the series. What's the point? It's way too late for an Azuki rival.
Maybe she will end up being paired with Eiji and be the Zombie Gun heroine? Thoughts?

Oh, I read that wrong. For some reason when you said "paired with Eiji" I thought you simply meant her being pairing up with Eiji's work.
