So in comparison to Toei's anime, the tie-in fan manga seems to be a lot more legit. For example, Botamo in the anime simply didn't take damage and stood like a wall against Goku's punches, while in the manga he absorbed hits while his body bounced and contorted to impact. Frankly the latter example seems much cooler and sillier to feel more in nature to how Dragonball is. He's looks like a big squishy bear, so hitting him should have the result of a big squishy bear. Then there's Frost on how he wasn't so much an evil prick (even more so than Frieza it would seem) but an arrogant liar in the manga. The pacing seems to be a lot better as well. The anime has been pretty much a disappointment, not so much on the story, but the slow and terrible animation just sucks all the tension and it just isn't fun to look at.
Just wait until the Berserk anime comes out, its gonna make DBS look like Hunter x Hunter 2011 lol.
DBS chapter 10 got translated.

Piccolo jobbed even worse.
-
I don't get why the win would have gone to Piccolo. Should a have at the least gone to Goku since he got hit with it first. But still…Man this tournament is horribly underwhelming.
-
Are they going to blow up the planets?
If Universe 7 loses then Champa and Beerus swap earths. The Universe 6 earth was destroyed centuries ago from war, so Champa can't enjoy food from there, lol. That's the entire reason he proposed a tournament in the first place.
-
What I find weird is that they even pretended to give Piccolo something to bite after how excruciatingly humiliated him and Gohan were during Freeza's return. Didn't the whole thing with Freeza reborn go something like: Base form Goku>>Final Form Freeza>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>base form Freeza>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Piccolo and SSGohan???? Like, that guy who was supposed to be Ginyu's equal proved to be more than a match for him (at least in the movie version)? Like, they forgot Piccolo is actually stronger than the friggin androids, but here he was super weakened?
If anything, everything was pointing towards Piccolo being super nerfed and stuff, but they still brought him to a tournament where the strongest of 2 different universes duke it out and apparently he can go toe to toe with Frost's final form (at least, in the manga) that forced Goku to go SS, which should mean this Frost guy is at least as strong as New Freeza and. . .holy shit is my head hurting. Too much.
Also, Goku going SS puts him. . .where power wise? If his base form is so godly strong now, his base SS form is equal to what? SS3? Things were so much easier before. SS1 was SS1, SS2 was SS2, etc. . .
And I'm worried about PL's cause, let's face it, DB has been for a while all about PL's, and when they don't make a tiny bit of sense, yeah. . .
This x1000. Makes no sense tbh. I can't even tell if Frost is supposed to be strong enough to fight Goku's post SSG base form or if it was just an oversight and the author forgot that base form Goku is a beast and Frost is really just Frieza namek level in which case Piccolo would shit on him. If he is resurrection of F Frieza level then Piccolo shouldve been demolished, the power levels are really convoluted now.
-
When Piccolo trained with Goku before Androids Saga, it helped to achieve SSJ level.
By training with Gohan, Piccolo shouldve become stronger than Chou Gohan..
-

So still nothing important then. These dingleberries only wind up space traveling cause they keep getting into fights. It's shouldn't really effective than anyone else lol.
-
Beerus said he'd destroy their Earth if they lose, from what I recall. And Universe 7's Earth isn't destroyed, it's just ravaged from war.
-

The story is worse than a fan made one because the rules in the tournment make no fking sense since the win should have gone to goku and the cheap animation for it seems fan made as well by starter animators to make it as cheap as possible but i guess they thought a lot of people would watch it no matter how crap it was so why bother putting any money into one of the most popular series lol.
The bleach anime was better animated than one piece anime at the time as well even though it made no sense since one piece was more popular but it seems they put more effect into making less popular mangas into better animated ones than to make the more popular mangas into the best animated that they can.
-
I watched the first 2 episodes just to get some sense of what it looks like and it was nothing special. From what I'm reading here, it isn't really worth the time for multiple reasons?
Can't say I'm surprised. Toei and all…
-
Just skip the first 28 episodes.
Latest episode was really good, Veggie vs Magetta easily the best fight in Super.
-
Um why are their giant Dragonballs?
-
They're the eponymous Super Dragon Balls.
-
Um why are their giant Dragonballs?
They are basically the God Tier [Original] Dragonballs for Beerus & Champa's Universes
Also being the origin of how namek made their Set.
-
Cabba vs Vegeta will basically be like this…

Is that a fan translation or Viz that makes Goku say "Poopy Pants"? Lol
-
What's up with the next episode?
! Didn't Cabba say U7 Saiyans don't transform?
@MetaMario:Is that a fan translation or Viz that makes Goku say "Poopy Pants"? Lol
Looks like Viz to me. I think in the German version Goku calls his mom a whore xD
-
What's up with the next episode?
! Didn't Cabba say U7 Saiyans don't transform?
! He said he knew nothing of it. Chances are this would be the first time he's ever transformed, and that in his universe, no other Saiyan has ever transformed either. So even though they did have the capability, there would be no legends or stories about Super Saiyans in Universe 6.

Hit is going to use the Cube to destroy the other Universes by becoming the Ultimate God of Destruccion.
-
Yeah, episode practically hinting he is stealing the Cube, the DBs and maybe kidnap Bulma as well in order to find the last DB.
a few Toriyama+Toyotaro quotes from an interview on V-Jump site:
Q: Why is SSB blue?
Toriyama: "First I was going to have it be white, but that would clash with the 'next enemy', so I saved it for later."Toriyama: "Currently I have no plans for Goku and Vegeta surpassing Beerus and Whis."
Toyotaro: "Having read the new plot, I'm glad a certain character related to the future is getting involved. I'm a big fan!"
Interviewer: "Maybe Toyotaro could add some of his own ideas to the plot"
Toriyama: "Yeah, that'd be cool."
Toyotaro: "Too much pressure!!!"Mirai Trunks to return?
Looks like Tori is gonna recycle AF, its hinting we are getting someone similar to Xicor and i guess Vados will be what the female Kai was in AF..
-
Vegeta seems to consider Cabba as more of a son than Trunks, lol
-
So i just found out that the guy who draws the dragon ball Super manga and writes for dragon ball super was the author of Dragon ball AF
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
did this get posted and i missed the discussion?
EDIT: oh wait, looking above that seems to be the case. Guess I was late to the party haha. Interesting stuff. So is Super going on longer than we thought?
-

Well, that explains the shoddy plot and art then.

Have you read Dragon Ball AF? Is this seriously the plot? It sounds like the cringiest thing ever.
-
I read a bit of it a few years back when it came up here. AF is pretty damn awful. And the plot is exactly the same as what Super has turned into.
"Different universes with near identical versions of the same characters fight and then do nothing but fight!"
It gets praised for the "great art" but its super amateurish high school tracings from a bunch of different artists doing wankery over Vegetto and Broli.
Which is fine for an amateur for-fun fan project, but is terrible for a real thing.
And it explains why Super has gone the same route.
EDIT: Oh. AF is actually something else. I was thinking of Dragonball Multiverse. Which is all the things I just said.
Reading up on AF it actually sounds far far worse.
-
I've known about AF for years I thought it was justa conceptual thing busy fans put together…..didn't know it was turned into an actual thing people were expected to read.

Lol what a exagerated comment about DBM. Oh, well, everybody has their opinions.
DBM is one tournament so obviously it will be about fighting. Even the tournaments in the Dragon Ball manga were about hardly anything besides fighting.
The Vegetto and Broly fight lasted about one chapter… DBM has 28 so far.
Tracing is basically non-existent, save for a few instances, and the art is really good for amateur work.
Different versions of characters is basically the whole point of different universes... That's what the the plot point of different universes allows... If the point is simply new characters, there is no need for different universes, they can be from the other side of the universe or simply another realm like Dabra. And DBM also has new characters.
In short, the plot is really simple in DBM but it's nice and entertaining and everything else about it is also pretty nice and entertaining. It's limited by the fact that it's done on their free time, which means that they can't develop things much and have to do things quickly, putting as much possible in every single page, which wouldn't happen if it was a real manga, but it's one of best fanmangas of Dragon Ball that I've seen overall and I've seen quite a few.
And despite its flaws and shortcomings, I'd still rather read it than Super. Or even GT.

Monaka being a fraud is not only lame but does not make too much sense as well

I think it does. If Beerus told Goku and Vegeta : "You're the strongest I've ever fought.", they would become arrogant, whereas: "There is someone stronger than you." makes for good motivation.
-
I didn't say anything about a Vegetto and Broli fight. I said fanwankery ABOUT Vegetto and Broli. As in, once they'r in the story, it's all about them and it's terrible.
Its been 4 or 5 years since I or this thread looked at it, I've managed to block out most of it. But if you backtrack through the thread you'll find posts where people break apart the art and show multiple images side by side that were all traced from the same source… and by different artists.
And yes, the main series will stop for tournaments and that halts the story some. But that was always a method to introduce new characters. "Show the efforts of Goku and Krillin's training". "Introduce Tienshinhan." "Get Baba Yaga to reveal the location of a dragonball." "Set up Piccollo Sr.' "Meet Chichi again, finish of Tao Pai Pai, and showdown with Piccollo Jr." "Set up the Buu saga with a truncated tourney." Hell, the Cell games wasn't even a tournament, it was one fight before it turned into a free for all. The tournament bouts, which were usually only a handful of chapters at a time, was never flat out the entire story.
-

I've never taken Goku to become arrogant over his strength, Vegeta on otherhand….....

True, but the "… whereas: "There is someone stronger than you." makes for good motivation." part is true for both of them I believe.

Wouldn't they be motivated by the fact that Beerus and Whis are so much more powerful than they are?
-

This… It make no sense. Both Vegeta and Goku know that there are at least 2 people stronger before the tournament even started. It makes no sense. They could have said that in U6 instead there is someone stronger instead wasting space for Monaka.

Who's ready for a trip down memory lane
-

Yeah but the more the merrier + the studio gets a few minutes for filler content. :ninja:
I for one don't think it's funny but the target audience maybe does… -
-
Anyone else read the recent Toriyama and Torotaro interview and think it' Future Trunks they are hinting at making a return?
Apparently "someone" enters the ring after the tournament concludes in 2 weeks…......things are getting pretty damn exciting!!
-

Broly was in one fight and then he was gone from the tournament. I don't see how it's all about him. All characters have had their times to shine so if it's fanwanking it's regarding them all. In any case, compared to the fanmanga overall scene I find their fanwanking pretty mild, besides being logical and entertaining most of the time.
And yes, there's a few instances of tracing but that's all. What people have pointed out here and in other forums aren't just examples of tracing, it's pretty much all the tracing that it had and it's not much. It has even been pointed out tracing of their own earlier work which, even if it's lazy, it's not copying from another work.
Dragon ball had several arcs that were tournaments, especially in the non DBZ portion. They were a very pleasant part of the series and very entertaining arcs, and all together they make up a big portion of the series. This fanmanga is just a tournament arc and honestly there is nothing wrong with that. Just like the tournaments in the manga, it serves to show how the the gang has progressed (we still haven't had much a chance for that since their fights haven't been very challenging so far, but we will once they get into difficult ones), and there's several plot points going on regarding the various participants that might affect not just their universe but all at the end of it all. Seems perfectly allright with more than enough going on to me.

For fucks sake, we discussed four years ago how terrible the story and art is. Just click the link Hermit had right above and that's all the discussion needed.
Just because no one in here wants to take the time to cross reference every traced drawing to something from another source, doesn't mean the handful of examples pointed out were the "only" examples. You just compare the art of the canon characters against the made up ones and the difference is dramatic.
It's crap. It's fine if you like it, but it doesn't make it less crap.

I'm well aware that it has been discussed in the past. I wanted to talk a little more about what I think about it now so I did, presenting my arguments. No need to get mad about it, and there's no need to talk about subjective things, like the quality of a fanmanga, like it's a fact. It's fine to consider it crap, but there's no need to proclaim it as if it's a fact that someone is trying to deny. Appreciation of quality of a manga or fanmanga is, after all, inherently subjective. Imo, your opinion was exagerated then and it's exagerated now. It's a perfectly allright fanmanga imo, it beats most other DB fanmanga in points with some comfort and, nowadays, with Super and so on, it's even looking better now than it did a while back. I also reiterate what I stated about of the tracing. There are a great many eyes looking at every page of DBM and suspicious panels in regards to tracing are pointed out by people (fans and haters alike). Despite this, such occurences have been rare.
Here's the latest page of the fanmanga, btw, for anyone curious:
-
All this talk about multiverse theory and still no universe where Yamcha is the strongest being in existence
-
@Purple:

Actually, you are wrong.
-
@Purple:
All this talk about multiverse theory and still no universe where Yamcha is the strongest being in existence
In one of the universes of DBM, Yamcha was the one who become Android #17. He is pretty strong thanks to that (even though obviously not the strongest).
-
TOKI WO TOMARE, ZA WARUDO.
-
@Purple:
All this talk about multiverse theory and still no universe where Yamcha is the strongest being in existence
With only 12 universes, it is impossible.
-
Guldo did the ZA WARUDO way better
-
Regarding DBM, it might be worth pointing out that artists changed not too long ago.
-
Regarding DBM, it might be worth pointing out that artists changed not too long ago.
Yes. I actually prefer the new one overall, but I think that the people who think the art was bad or crap before won't change their minds with the new artist.
