Yeah. He basically chops him on his hip, which is what really caused him to drop his guard while upside-down. There's a brief pause for him as he realizes Vegeta's holding his palm out in front of him and just before he can finish uttering "Spare me" is when Vegeta vaporizes him.

That's amazingly awesome.

I'd throw up a clip, but unfortunately, the only thing I can find is the god awful dubbed version of Z where it's blown way out of proportion and the music hardly sounds dramatic.
-
VEGETA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Oh, the glory of season 3.
-
Better version:
sRXvIEz5SkEFor whatever reason the dub of DB and DBZ liked to exclude a ton of the insert songs.
In DBZ's case someone must've thought most of the music sucked.
-
I never expected Yamcha to even have insert music. It did rock though…however I had this weird thought that somehow Yamcha would have been cooler if he sort of developed his own super-powerful "wild-man"/"wilderness" style instead of just becoming yet another Roshi student...but unfortunately Toriyama wasn't as original in developing fighting styles compared to even writers of that era (like Hara or Miyashita)
-
What's really awesome is that Tôru Furuya is singing his own character's theme. :)
The Yamcha v. Tenshinhan fight is by far one of the best in the animation, very fluid and nuanced animation.
-
I think the only battle that contends that little gem in terms of animation is SSJ2 Goku vs. Kid Buu.
-
After watching the recent episodes I forgot how awesome the ginyu force was.
-
@Yuugi's:

Hell, most of the character themes are done by the seiyuu, which only added extra flare to the songs. Though not many of them ended up on the anime and only in soundtracks.
Speaking of songs:

One of my favorites.
Also surprised my Dragon Ball video account hasn't been suspended yet. Though they killed off some of my better videos. :(

They should of kept the music in, it's awesome

So Kai's going into reruns now. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

One of the weirdest things to me in dragonball is Tenshinhan.
He appears with 3 eyes, and Master Roshi just says he had an "awakening" ritual, that is never ever brought up or seen again.
He's the only person in the world with it, and it seems pretty freaking useful since he was able to hold off cell and knock Super buu's giant Ki Blast away.
Then he has the multi-form technique, which allows him to grow limbs, or split his body up.
SO…. why in the hell didn't he grow extra arms to fight Nappa?
The dub line "You just wait till it grows back" is probably something he actually should have did.
but then again, if they survived Nappa, Vegeta would've killed them all in an instant.
(there was a super nintendo game where you could do this, and I thought it was hilarious, I think it's Son Goku 2 or something like that)
-

That would be the equivalent of reaching enlightenment. Ten's past is a big debate because it's assumed he's human, but other sources seem to claim he's an alien out of nowhere.

He can grow extras, not regenerate the limbs he uses. It's not like with the Namekians.
-
Actually Dragonball, Dragonball Z and GT are basically the samething. Also, I wonder what the covers of Dragonball GT is going to look like.
I hope that there will be new season or episode for dragonball z series.
-
I hope that there will be new season or episode for dragonball z series.
And with that statement, linkmoko was never taken seriously again.

Why quote a post in the first page of this thread, and your statement is just….0_o
And with that statement, linkmoko was never taken seriously again.
Good call.

And with that statement, linkmoko was never taken seriously again.
I can agree with that
-
I came in this thread expecting a discussion on Tenshinhan, I got that, and so much more.
I love you guys, because I'm laughing so hard.
-

I think that becomes highly apparent during the Saiyan Saga so long as you don't let Saban's dub lull you into a false sense of security.
-
I think that becomes highly apparent during the Saiyan Saga so long as you don't let Saban's dub lull you into a false sense of security.
You'd be surprised how many people actually BELIEVED that line.
-
There are still people who believe it.
-
Half the things said in both versions of the English dub seem to still be treated as canon to those people.
I've seen people still surprised to find out Bardock wasn't actually a "brilliant scientist" and was more than an "average fighter." Or how the small, original form of Boo is supposedly the strongest form.
-
I also blame the Wiki for this.
The Daizex topic dealing with that craptastic piece of shit is still one of the greatest topics I've seen on that site.
-
Why are so many American Dragonball fans, many who would never give the localization credence of stuff they also like, like One Piece, such complete Funimation robots? And yeah that goes for a lot of people right here on this site.
What the fuck?
There's a lot of bad wikis out there, but mostly it's just because they're anemic. The DBZ wiki is the only one I've ever seen like that, pigheaded hijack by stubborn mules who don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
-
It's because DBZ is a large part of their childhood nostalgia.
DBZK's dub fixes 95% of the dub's problems, including voice changes for Gohan, Bulma and Freeza and it's absolutely hated by the fanbase, because the "funny" jokes aren't there, Gohan sounds like a little girl and Freeza doesn't sound like a creepy old woman.
This topic accurately shows the opinion of the average DBZ fantwat:

I didn't think DBZ fans would suddenly turn into Battle of the Planet fans good god.
-
Suddenly? I guess you were around in the nineties?
-
No it's just…I was a dubbie as I've already said here a bunch. I grew up with that stuff. I watched the whole thing on Cartoon Network during the toonami golden age.
So I mean it's not just dumb, it's inexcusably dumb.
-
Man, this DBZ Kai is an even bigger nostalgia bomb then I imagined. Tonight they seem to be starting the series over? I haven't looked into the schedule, but if my guess is right then this means that the series has again restarted on the eve of an incredible cliffhanger. It's like the 1990s all over again back when Goku arrived and KOed Recoome, and then they stopped showing new episodes! The only difference this time is that they're holding off the fight with Frieza. How awesomely frustrating.
I wonder if this is a ploy to draw the series out more, or does nicktoons need more time to edit out Frieza's Krillin-stabbing, child beating antics.
-

The episodes are censored by Ocean Productions, as the credits would lead us to believe.
-
Chances are funi needs more time to dub the episodes. After all, we've already seen half of what japan has. American seasons are also suppose to end eventually.
I might have to watch subs of the rest of kai. Like it was said above, it was a heck of a cliffhanger to leave off on…
-
Yeah, it's actually pretty frightening to see how quickly they almost caught up to Japan in dubbing the series. That's actually a first for Dragon Ball.

Who even are these apparently 13 year old kids everywhere who "remember" dbz? I was 11 when that all went down, and that was ten years ago.
All the dudes I grew up with pretty much also watched it.
But they aren't rushing to gamefaqs to post like they went back in time lol.It actually came up when we were drinking not so long ago, people were just like "lol remember that show? they always sounded like they was pooping".
I don't really get where this demographic of "nostalgic" pre-teens is from.
-
I'm genuinely curious for whoever still follows Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon or whatever, we had the likes of Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles ("Ninja" was a banned word for UK child demographic shows ), He Man, so what is the modern day equivalent?
-
Whose we. I had the likes of Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, Ed Edd and Eddie, Samurai Jack etc.
90's kids, best cartoons. Eat it 80's.
Oh and I dunno what 00's kids watch now. Flapjack is kind of cool I guess. Or is that Nick. Whatever.
-

The closest and most consistant action show these days for them is Ben 10…aside from that, there isn't much action-animation aside those catering to those with existing bases (the DC/Marvel shows, Star Wars)
-
Johnny Bravo and Dexter's Lab just weren't the same when they were brougt back.
-
@JERK:

Late 80s/early-mid 90s kids. Which means maybe mid 80s American action/adventure and a lot of live action UK shows, Aquila, Queens Nose, Round the Twist .
I had the likes of Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, Ed Edd and Eddie, Samurai Jack etc.
The others you mentioned were tail end of school and never really paid attention to them. I used to watch Hey Arnold and Dexters' Lab with my little bro though, very very funny. One that I hated with a passion on Cartoon Network was Cow and Chicken.
I've watched Samurai Jack, good show, and I hate that its in limbo. That's the sort of show Im looking for, old fashioned action-fantasy stuff
90's kids, best cartoons. Eat it 80's.
Maybe. is it hackneyed and cliche to say 80s were simpler shows for simpler kids? Cause, for example, Dexter's Lab and Hey Arnold were sharper and wittier. Samurai Jack definitely, it pushed that boundary a lot further then its action counterparts of a decade earlier.
Oh and I dunno what 00's kids watch now. Flapjack is kind of cool I guess. Or is that Nick. Whatever.
I…cant name any. At least nothing Ive heard of that would make me go out my way to watch it. The animated star wars series was pretty good
@Tokoro:

Oh yeah, the X Men animated series (199..5?) was f'ing awesome too, it's what got me into comics as a whole (X Men and Spiderman which opened the doors to 2000AD, then the ubiquitous discovery of Sandman/Vertigo every semi-obsessed comic reader makes, to first couple books of Lone Wolf in early 00's).
-
We got sharp witty shows in the 90's and that's how we liked it.
But kids these days, we can agree right? All the live action pre-teen Disney channel style crap…ugh.
-
were there ANY good shows on Disney? even in the 90s? Cause all I remember is the Hannah Montano-like stuff, everything was (and still is) geared toward the whole preteen princess market. Which pissed me off badly, when Disney were putting out shit on the big screen like Aladdin and Lion King, so when we finally got the channel on cable you can imagine my disappointment
-

Avatar the last airbender… And... I can't think of anything else, specialy if it is about comedy<reads more="" than="" the="" last="" page=""></reads>

I think the closest Disney got to anything like that would be the Disney Afternoon stuff..that was in syndication. That's where the stuff like Ducktales, Chip and Dale, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, Gargoyles, Goof Troop and such were. Disney Channel proper was always family-oriented before the female demographic took it over.
-
Kim Possible, Ben 10, Last Airbender, Spectacular Spiderman, TMNT, the ongoing adventures of the DCAU. These are the quality animated shows of the Augties.
The 90's had the entire Disney Afternoon (and especially Gargoyles), the start of the DCAU (Batman!) Exo Squad, Reboot, Beast Wars, South Park, Simpsons in its prime, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, Freakazoid, Sonic SatAM, Daria, Swat Kats, Space Ghost:Coast to Coast, and by and large, had better anime too, but thats too extensive a list to begin comparing.
Really the Disney Afternoon alone cements the quality of the nineties.

Aladdin had a kickass show though.
Tailspin, Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales, all cool.

Don't forget Foster's and Spongebob.
But yeah, 90's beats the 00's by a long shot. Ah, and why did I never watch Disney afternoons?! I missed out on Ducktales!
-
The Disney Channel was actually pretty awesome when it was a pay-for channel. It had behind the scenes documentaries and would air the classics every night, going back through decades of archives. All 40 of their animated fliks, and stuff like Pete's Dragon, Davy Crockett, or 20,000 Leagues or whatnot, and the entire Disney afternoon.
Then it became basic cable and instantly turned to shit. At best you'll get a random Pixar movie played 4 or 5 times during a weekend at this point, and the Little mermaid tv series at 3 in the morning comboed with the Lilo and Stitch cartoon (which while fun, is nowhere near as good as the movie). All the good stuff apparently got moved to TOON Disney. Which for all intents and purposes doesn't exist. (And I understand event hat doesn't play toons anymore…)
