Oh, now I get it… no, wait... Jirayia... awww fuck it.
Naruto Thread IV

@RobbyBevard:
Where's Jiraiya's body then? Who saw him die? When was his name removed from the frog scroll summon pact? When was the funeral?
Why did Kishi come up with such an excuse to avoid using him as a zombie when he'd be by far the most emotionally investing, powerful, and interesting opponent of any "dead" character in the series? Kabuto had no trouble getting access to any other body that might be hard to get, (including ones that were specifically destroyed to avoid passing on secrets) why is a lake such a big deal?
And Orochimaru attempted to summon SOMEONE. Thematically only the fourth makes any sense at that time.
Good points about Jiraiya, maybe he could be alive, but doubt it. We saw him drowning with no throat or ARM to perform a jutsu. He would of had to summon a toad beforehand to carry him.
u just read it again, Oro said noting.

I appreciate your attempt to sound like Juju, but its just not the same.
-
The lulz are on the One Piece in LA thread clearly.
Clearly.

@RobbyBevard:

Who is juju? How can Jiraiya summon a toad with one hand? Haku is the only person to do this.
-
You're absolutely right, Kid Flash.
-
@RobbyBevard:
You're absolutely right, Kid Flash.
I know that much, Robin
-
@RobbyBevard:
I haven't watched the anime. I read the manga. And yet I know he was going to summon the fourth.
You can sort of fudge it and say "Well, Orochimaru wasn't trying to summon the fourth then, the manga never specifically said that!" (The anime did apparently, but that doesn't count.)
Except, who was he going to summon then? You're in a battle of Kages and fighting your old mentor, the third, and trying to mess with his head by using his old friends that happen to be extremely powerful. You summon the first hokage, then the second, and there's one more player to unveil. The crate opens and it is…
Bob the plumber.
You know, barring Yondaime Hokage, it's entirely possible he was trying to summon the guy he had been impersonating for the first half of that entire arc (Yondaime Kazekage, aka Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro's father). Hence, why there was a Number 4 on the casket in the Anime.
-
Why would he try to summon the Kazekage when the Fourth would be far more useful in a fight/psyching out Sarutobi.
-
@Cyan:
Why would he try to summon the Kazekage when the Fourth would be far more useful in a fight/psyching out Sarutobi.
Because he couldn't summon… ah, nevermind.
Anyway, I think it's far more likely that it was Yondaime Kazekage and not Yondaime Hokage simply because it would make actual sense being that he (YK) had been killed by Orochimaru very recently. Orochimaru was in exile doing his research when the whole nine-tales crap went down... how the hell would he have gotten his DNA?
I'm more interested in who the trump card that Kabuto summoned is that scared even Madara, though I'm beginning to thing it's Madara's original body. Since he stated it's not Jiraiya or the Sage of Six Paths, it has to be someone that would make Madara even crap himself. The only other person I can see it being besides Madara's original body (which would mean this Madara has been Obito all along) would be Madara's younger brother, Izuna.
-
Ace isn't coming back so I can care less about jiriya no matter how much I loved his charcter. The death of Ace kilt me so much i am no longer moved by characters death.
On topic
Even though I hate Naruto it still makes me smile how haku smiled when she heard Naruto was called a hero and had a bridge named after him. Reminds me of when Naruto was good and Kakashi was actually a cool charcter. How I miss the quality of the first 60 episodes of Naruto.
I never read Naruto the manga can anyone tell me if it's worth the time?
-
Who wants to take this one?
We need someone capable of describing how fetid Naruto is nowadays and I don't think I'm up to it.

Been thinking about doing a Naruto video review. Of course, I still need to install the Adobe Premiere software on my computer.
-
I miss Kakashi's awesomeness.
-
You'd have a lot to go through. It's hard to sum up why this series has gone to such a rancid state.
Trust me, I've tried.

I've been thinking about going the Plinkett route and dividing it into videos addressing different aspects of the story. Like a video for Naruto, Sasuke, Kishi's treatment of female characters, secondary characters, art, death, etc. It would be a long review that could take several months to make.
-
That'd probably be the most accurate and best way to do it.
If you are gonna do it though in any form, lemme know if you need any help.
-
Will do, and I appreciate your support.
-
It's hard to sum up why this series has gone to such a rancid state.
Really? Seems rather easy to me.
Kishimoto has always been a hack writer, but managed to get lucky in the beginning and come up with a handful of good arc ideas, plus he had the energy to detail backgrounds and flesh out minor characters. So he kept up the illusion he knew what he was doing for a few arcs, but ran out of ideas somewhere during the Sannin Arc, and managed to "BS" his way through the Rescue Sasuke one, finishing the last of his good ideas with Kakashi Gaiden.
But instead of experimenting to come up with new material to support the series he'd built, he stopped trying in the interest of keeping published and pushed the story in an entirely different thematic direction, which combined with the apathetic art just communicates a desire to get paid for nothing.
What's hard to debate is whether or not Bleach is worse than Naruto. There are noticeable trade-offs between the two, that makes for a good discussion.
-
Look I may not like Naruto anymore but Bleach being better than Naruto?
Hah. Not a chance.
Even at their current state, Naruto easily takes the lead.
-
I find Bleach way too hard to follow these days. That may be due to the fact that I've been finding it hard to enthuse myself in keeping up with manga in general lately. But I think Bleach got old fast. I could never remember any of the Spanish terms or sequence of events like I could instantly recollect things about One Piece, and what and when this or that happened.
It's like in my head, One Piece is all layed out nice and neatly and organised, but Bleach is just a hazy mess.

Lol good find and lobby this fits in your storytelling thing. Oro was impersonating him the whole time and he was the 4th Kazekage too. Good thinking
I am sorry, but Jiraiya>>Ace

Orochimaru was in exile doing his research when the whole nine-tales crap went down… how the hell would he have gotten his DNA?
How the hell did he get the dna of these other dozens and dozens of highly regarded warriors?
At least with the fourth, there was a period of time where they were best buds. Plenty of time to collect some strands of hair or whatnot.
I never read Naruto the manga can anyone tell me if it's worth the time?
Totally worth it.
Especially if you like armadillo penises.
-
For a guy named "youngjustice" you've surprisingly made zero posts in OP's YJ topic. Do you just prefer the dark alleys of the Naruto Thread?
Look I may not like Naruto anymore but Bleach being better than Naruto?
Hah. Not a chance.
Even at their current state, Naruto easily takes the lead.
They're the same quality to me, they just have different features.
Bleach has good character designs and style, but a bland universe with a non-existant plot and non-existant character development. It's also consistently funny, if in an unintentional way.
Naruto has horrible art in general, an interesting if untapped universe and a bad plot with poor character development. It's usually at its most funny when it's scatological (Naruto farting) or carnal (NaruxSasu kiss, SaixSasu yaoi, the armadildo). However, there are a handful of really fun minor or supporting characters, like Lee, Jiraiya, and Bee.
There's no comparison to Negima! or 5D's, which are strong in all categories. Even Index, with all of its misused ideas, is still a far superior shounen.

Bleach has always been incomprehensible.
I only had to see the first episode to see it was terrible. And it took most people a long, long time to arrive at the same conclusion.

Kabuto was a medical ninja.
All ninjas have a mandatory yearly physical.
cough cough

Oro was doing this stuff for years even, when he was a good guy. He had a secret lab and traveled places with the professor (his master and Kage) could of collected plenty dna throughout his lifetime. It's not about having the 4TH DNA, which would of been easy to get for Oro, its about it not working because he is sealed in the death god.

I wasn't aware their is a young justice thread. Where is it? and YJ will be the best show on tv come January. Also Kabuto hid his identity for a while and could of been collecting dna for Oro over the years.

Oh course, given the homoerotic overtones surrounding male friendships in Naruto, there's probably other sources he could have gone to for DNA…

The first few episodes were weak but I felt the series really came into it's own during the Soul Society arc… And then fell to pieces again. Naruto had some really good parts but I never got as in to it as I did Bleach.

Orochimaru and Minato best buds? Jiraiya maybe, but I guess it can be assumed Orochimaru creeped into his house and stole a few strands off of a brush.

The thing I hate about Naruto is you really can't measure ppls real strengths. It's all just a bunch of stupid plots to make the character kishi wants alive win. When they killed diedera that was the end for me.
-
Isn't that true of most shonen anyway? Not that Naruto isn't hugely guilty for it, plot-hax happens for a lot of characters.
No excuse for Neji and Choji though. I remember watching those 'deaths' for the first time and being sad because of it. Then it was cheapened by them living. Neji I could see living but Choji's was definite…ly bullshit.

I like to think thats not one piece. It's pretty simple strongest guy wins. I mean every thing is plot. But when Luffy slammed arlong through the building it was obvious he was stronger. Though the only reason he cold do that is because he had arlong in a confined space i guess. The only time I would say onepiece is guilty of this is with Moria.
-
Most shounen revolve around fighting of some sort of fighting anyway, but it's how it's done that makes a difference. For example Naruto seems to have more spamming with it's two main characters than other characters of shounen, except Bleach but that's a given, and moreso with Ichigo than anybody else. If you look at Hunter X Hunter or One Piece with Nen and the DF fruits respectively the diversity of powers is fascinating. Not in Naruto lol. Also Naruto lacks emotional impact to me now because certain points such as suffering have been hammered home so much I don't care anymore.
At least when something happens to say a One Piece or Hunter X Hunter character I really feel for them, even bad guys sometimes.
-

While I can agree that Kubo can draw some good character designs, the fact is he's reached a point where he doesn't care anymore. I mean, do you remember Aizen's forms? I think a microcosm of this is the most recent arc going on in Bleach. Ginjou is nearly identical to Aizen in appearance. And Kubo's idea of a timeskip is giving the main cast slightly different hair designs.
Kishimoto's art style has become more distinct, but I can at least agree with you that it is horrendous. At least Naruto usually has pretty good pacing as opposed to Bleach's three pages of phone instructions.
Oh and Bleach's absolute lack of backgrounds say hi. At least Kishimoto bothers with those in Naruto.
Sure Bleach might be stylish, but crap done stylish is only stylish crap.
Also Bleach being unintenionally funny is not a point in it's favor. Naruto is the same way in that aspect. At least Naruto pretends it tries and, every blue moon, can pull out a good chapter. I think the last time I honestly liked Bleach was somewhere in Soul Society.
Trust me man. The difference between Naruto and Bleach is noticible.
-
Jay is right.
Bleach has far too many flaws to be better than Naruto.
-
Yeah I forgot about Bleach's pacing (the worst), that's a huge blow against it too.

I'm not sure I understand.
You actually want more power-level stuff? Isn't that dull/boring?
-
There is no way to say that Bleach is better than Naruto…Despite Kishimoto's errors on the story, these are nothing compared to Kubo's lack of consistent plot line, lack of backgrounds, lack of better use of the supporting cast, and other things...Kishimoto is much better than Kishimoto in every aspect.
-
@RobbyBevard:

They are all sperm donas.
Though I'm not sure if they were willing.
-

Ninja Sperm Bank
Ninja Sperm Nurses
Ninja Porn
The posibilities are endless.
-
Sperm banks? Sure why not? Make the one reason Kishimoto puts women in his manga obsolete.
-
Ninja Porn
Jiraiya's book.
Kabuto acts like a Gideon Bible distributor, handing out Love Love Paradise to all the influential Kages, then steals their morning underwear before the washer nins have a chance to clean them.
Oh god, what have I thought?
-
Glad to see the Naruto thread sticks to it's roots
-
I don't know how he got some of them though, like sasori.
I'm not even sure he had a penis after the operation. Chances are it was replaced with a sword, dart or explosive device….
We really need these IMPORTANT questions answered.
-
Sasori died as he lived.
Not giving a fuck.
-

I knew from the first 10 chapters that Bleach was shit. It never made much sense to me. Swords automatically giving shinigami distinctly different powers? I never really had high expectations for it. But on the other hand, you had Naruto, which had potential. I can't say it was the greatest, but it was good in the very beginning. It got better, and then it started to plummet farther than I expected, as we all know. That's what makes Naruto worse in my opinion.
-
Naruto was splendid until the Sasuke rescue arc. It was good for a long time. The Chuunin Exam arc in particular is still my favorite arc in Naruto.
Bleach had a good start (though personally not as good as Naruto) and was good for like 10 or 11 volumes before it died.
-
Nope, just 4 volumes. Then all of his friends started getting powers.

not even close

SS was good until the Kenpachi fight, then it started to suck.
-
Bobjr got it right.
When the Kenpachi fight finished, so did my love for this manga.
-
SS was good until the Kenpachi fight, then it started to suck.
I agree, when Ichigo was running around fighting people of his level it was good. Sneaking around causing havoc. Though unlike one piece this kubo guy didn't think of a good way to have Ichigo accomplish his goal without beating people way out of his league. That one guy with the flower sword either got impossible stronger in a couple of months or else he would have beat ichigo with incredible ease. If they ended the series after that arc I would say it was a great manga based only on it's fights but it didn't.
Trying desperately to get back on topic I think we should find an eact point in where Naruto went down hill.
