RE: Hunter x Hunter II
I've been trying to avoid adding to the discussion of the hiatus and Togashi but I can't resist any longer (see last paragraph for my thoughts in general).
@RobbyBevard:
You act as if those things are mutually exclusive.
They are mutually exclusive for some authors. Not everyone can write a weekly series while keeping it interesting. Not everyone can be Oda. To insinuate Togashi is lazy because he can't write HxH in that way is unfair. The fact that he continues to create intriguing plot lines 14 years into HxH suggests how much he still cares about the series. Many skilled manga authors burn themselves out but continue producing weekly chapters that are terrible (everyone can think of their own example of this). I don't want HxH to be ruined in that way. Even if that means hiatuses.
@RobbyBevard:
And Togashi works for… a WEEKLY MANGA MAGAZINE. If he can't hack it, switch to a monthly, take one week out of every four off, write a novel instead, retire, or just admit he needs an assistant or two so he wouldn't burn out so quickly, and can then manage to do the same job every other one of his peers is able to do, without being given inexplicable special treatment.
Yeah, as outsiders, Togashi changing magazines seems like a good way to avoid this problem (I've thought about it before). But please consider that if the weekly magazine he writes for wants to keep him on and he wants to continue to write for them that is all that really matters. You suggest that he is lazy relative to his peers. Do you really consider Masashi Kishimoto and Tite Kubo to be more hard working than him? They do produce more chapters than Togashi but, surely, that is not the only measure of an author's work.
I think HxH is an amazing, innovative, series and as much as hiatuses suck I consider them to just be a part of the deal. Most of us who have read and enjoyed HxH for years have accepted them. This time we were fortunate in that so many chapters were published and that it even has an anime that is currently running. If you don't like this series that much I understand why you would be upset but you should probably just go read something else. The hiatuses are not likely to go away. You can complain about Togashi being 'lazy' if it makes you feel better but realize that many of us don't see him this way. My feelings are those of respect for a Mangaka who continues to try hard to create a story worth reading.

RE: Journey, Flower, Flow, and Abzu
If anyone wants to see more of the game VGA (Video Games Awesome) is playing Journey starting now. Watch it here. Of course, if you're sure you want to buy the game I wouldn't watch as it will spoil stuff.
EDIT:
The livestream is over but you can still see it on youtube:

They've only gone through about a third of the game so far.

RE: Journey, Flower, Flow, and Abzu
I just wanted to add some quick notes after playing Journey.
I should mention first that, much like Flower, it is not a game about challenge, score, or replay value. Moreover, the gameplay exists to immerse you in the experience and is, by design, very simple. If you are the kind of gamer who primarily plays games for challenge or competition you should avoid this title.
Overall, I found the game to be quite enjoyable. The game is visually stunning with varied environments. While stylized, the game remains very beautiful throughout. The sound, like in Flower, fits wonderfully. I won't spoil anything about the actual story but I will say that I felt more of an emotional connection with the story in Flower than in Journey. I'm sure this will vary widely from person to person but I thought I would mention it.
If you like unique or interesting games you should definitely pick this up (and Flower for that matter).

RE: Bart Simpson Thread XI: The Movie - The Manga Adaption - The Animation
@Thousand:
Oh I hate that so much. Inu yasha really is the biggest sinner. Over 800 chapters of the same love triangle bullshit and the romantic couple never even kiss once in the manga. The hell?
Negima on the other hand is fantastic…
The romance suffers a bit in that it's mostly between various 15-16 year olds and a 10 year old… who is their teacher. I think it is supposed to cross the line twice and thus be less squicky but I find the concept to just be twice as disgusting.
The romance is still many times better than in Inu Yasha or Naruto but that's not saying much…

RE: Bart Simpson Thread XI: The Movie - The Manga Adaption - The Animation
Wait, wait! What was I thinking!? How can I forgot that "To Love Ru" has become nothing more than a pile of loli panty shots!?
Dragon Ball is a good example either, though….. how about "Ranma 1/2"?
The romance in Ranma 1/2 is hampered by the almost complete lack of likable characters. When I was new to anime and manga I really loved the wacky comedy of Ranma but my love for it faded as I saw other series which took the same formula and improved on it.
If you want a shonen series with zany comedy and an actually good romantic subplot read Cheeky Angel (Tenshi na Konamaiki). The first couple volumes are slower than Ranma but it gets better as it goes. In addition the characters actually change and grow over the course of the series.

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (9th & Final Season Airing Now)
Watched the show based on this thread. Overall it's generally pretty good. Some moments being brilliant (Fluttershy in 'Bridle Gossip') and some being horribly stupid (the message of 'Feeling Pinkie Keen').
It seems some people can't take the amazing cuteness of this show. To help combat this I have attached some My Little Pony guro. The perfect combination of cuteness and horror. Enjoy.
! No seriously it's MLP guro. If you don't know what that is don't open these…
!
!
I knew Apple Bloom could do it! Now she needs to carve some on her friends…

RE: Saddest Deaths.
A couple obvious ones come to mind:
Berserk:
! Judeau. It's hard not to feel sorry for him trying so hard to protect Casca… Especially given what happens to her. He did his best to protect the one he loved but couldn't save her.
Full Metal Alchemist:
! Nina. Just Nina… I've come to dislike the series but this was one of the moments early on that convinced me to keep watching.
Probably not at the top of most peoples lists (even those who've read the series) but this one got to me:
Mirai Nikki:
! In a series filled with death I found Aru Akise's particularly sad. He was a really cool character and his death trying to warn Yukiteru, the person he loves , about Yuno is quite sad, at least to me. Too bad the end of series couldn't compare to this…

RE: Naruto Thread IV
@RobbyBevard:
At least with the fourth, there was a period of time where they were best buds. Plenty of time to collect some strands of hair or whatnot.
Oh course, given the homoerotic overtones surrounding male friendships in Naruto, there's probably other sources he could have gone to for DNA…
Bleach has always been incomprehensible.
I only had to see the first episode to see it was terrible. And it took most people a long, long time to arrive at the same conclusion.
The first few episodes were weak but I felt the series really came into it's own during the Soul Society arc… And then fell to pieces again. Naruto had some really good parts but I never got as in to it as I did Bleach.
